I try to turn around from where I'm sitting to watch the commotion going on behind us, but Barton puts one of his arms protectively against my chest; causing me to fall back into my seat. I glare at him, but he's turned back to watching the road in front of us. Even a brain-washed Uncle still has time to care about my safety, I think to myself.
I nearly scream again, when Agent Hill flies out of a side tunnel and nearly rams into us. She suddenly turns violently to the right, moving in a full 360 to face us. Barton grunts in frustration and sticks his arm out the window to shoot at Hill. She pulls out a gun of her own and shoots at us through her windshield. Suddenly, Barton speeds up; causing Hill's jeep to slide to the side. Barton continues through the tunnel, leaving Hill far behind. He continues driving, not bothering to look behind him.
Finally, we shoot out of the tunnel into the cold night just as the base explodes. Rock and debris fly everywhere, causing Barton to swerve back and forth to try and avoid it. The entire time, he's kept one arm on me- except when he was shooting at Hill- trying to protect me even in his turned state.
Suddenly, a helicopter approaches us. The door slides open to reveal Fury holding a gun. It hits the windshield and he removes his arm from across my chest to shield his face. As we're almost driving underneath, a blast of blue energy flies out from behind us. I turn around and realize that Loki used his scepter. It hits the helicopter and causes it to burst into flames and start spinning out of control. Barton turns to the right to avoid the crashing machine falling behind us. I flinch when a loud boom echoes behind us as the helicopter hits the ground, blades still turning into the ground. Fury continues to shoot at us as we hit a road and drive into the night until we're finally out of his sight.
Finally, Barton removes his hand from over my body and places both hands on the steering wheel. He continues driving but looks back at Loki through the mirror, "you okay sir?" He nods stiffly, and Barton turns back to driving. I look back and forth between Loki and Barton, trying to figure out how this was possible, before eventually falling asleep against Barton's shoulder.
I wake up once, feeling someone's arms beneath me to realize that I'm being carried in Loki's arms. We're traveling down a dark tunnel, with Dr. Selvig behind us and Barton to the side. I look at him and he smiles down at me in… kindness? "Shh… go back to sleep," I hear him say before I'm suddenly overwhelmed with an intense feeling of fatigue before passing out in his arms.
The next time I wake up, I'm on a small bed in a room. It's dark, with only a few lanterns serving as lighting. I sit up and try to get off the bed, but I'm held back by invisible restraints. I look down at my arms and see blue energy coursing around my arms. It looks similar to the energy coming off of the portal and every time I pull against it, it burns my arms. After several attempts of escape, I stop pulling against the energy ropes when dark burn marks have been burned deep into my skin. Instead, I opt for a more thought out escape plan. I look around the room for something that might be useful for my escape.
I finally spot something, and I'm reaching to grab it when I hear the doorknob turning. Quickly, I throw myself onto the bed and lay myself out to look asleep. I hear soft footsteps and feel the bed shift under the weight of someone sitting. I tense up and keep my eyes closed, waiting for the person to go away. "I know you're awake. Who do you think conjured up those ropes?" the person says. I slowly sit up and face the one person I had hoped it to be; Loki.
