Chapter 4

Raelle took her time walking back to her dorm room. She let out a few shallow breaths, she wanted to forgive Scylla for being part of the Spree and lying to her about it all. But at the same time, she knew that the Spree had killed hundreds of people and she wasn't ready to forgive her girlfriend for something like that. When Raelle got back to barracks, the halls were nearly empty, most of the recruits were already in bed. She walked as quietly as she could down the hallway, her boots stomping softly on the tile floor. As Raelle got closer to her dorm room, she could see the flicking light of the candle and the faint whispers of Abigail and Tally. After that first night during basic, they had made it a ritual to remember the fallen soldiers.

Raelle stepped into the doorway and smiled softly as she saw Abigail and Tally sitting down by the candle. She walked in, closing the door behind her, taking off her boots, placing them at the edge of her bed and took her spot on the floor. She looked between the two girls, none of the saying anything for a period, before Tally broke the silence, "So… Rae, does that mean we forgive her?"

Raelle looked over at Tally and smiled softly, taking her hand gently, "I told Scylla that I didn't forgive her and it was going to take a while and also, she had to make it up to you guys as well." She looked over at Abigail and their eyes met, "Because I can't be with someone that my sisters hate. We go through so much together; I want you both to forgive her too." She lightly squeezed Tally's hand as Abigail nodded in understanding. She added, "But in your own time."

"Raelle, we both love you and our bond was never this strong, but if you forgive her, we will." Abigail responded as she reached her hand out to Raelle. A small smile formed on Raelle's lips as she gently put her hand in Abigail's.

"No shitbird this time?" Raelle laughed softly. "That's just it, I don't forgive her, not yet and I told her as much. I just need more time." Tally and Abigail both nodded as the Bellwether unit sat there holding hands in complete silence. When no new soldiers had fallen, the girls would just sit there, talk and build their sister bond.

Abigail smiled as she got up, picking the candle off the floor, "Alright ladies, it's bedtime. Training early." Raelle usually only listened when they had training first thing in the morning. She watched Tally climb onto the top bunk and she slid under her own still messed up covers. The room went dark and Raelle could hear Abigail climb into her own bed. Raelle rolled over and faced the wall, closing her eyes. Raelle took a deep breath as she slowly fell asleep, having a restless night as her head kept swimming and thinking of Scylla.
