Chapter 7
When the two women reached the Bellwether unit's dorm room, Raelle pushed open the door allowing Scylla to go inside, letting the door close on its own. Raelle followed Scylla over to the bottom bunk bed and sat down on it. Her body fully faced the brunette's, resting her right leg on mattress. Raelle took a deep breath as she reached her hand up to Scylla's cheek, keeping the blood-soaked napkin pressed against her. Raelle closed her eyes as she started to link with Scylla. She didn't have to use any spells this time because she had gotten better at linking with others. Raelle and Scylla were linked in no time; Raelle started to mutter the words to heal Scylla's cheek. She could feel Scylla hold in her breath as she started to see flashes of Scylla's memories. The flashes seemed to have happened faster than Raelle could fully understand what was happening.
The first flash that flew through Raelle's mind was of a younger, not much younger, but a younger Scylla hiding in the garage at her old house. She could hear a woman and a man talking as there was a loud banging on the door. She could feel how scared Scylla was at that moment. Scylla moved from the garage and peered through the side door, seeing a woman and a man on their knees with guns pointed at them. The three people that stood before them looked like they were army soldiers. Tears flowed down Scylla's cheeks hearing not one, but two shots and her parents fell to the ground. There was a gasp from Scylla as she turned and ran. She ran down the sidewalk, her heart pounding, nowhere to go.
The next flash that slide itself into Raelle's mind was of Scylla outside of a building. She was lost, she had no family anymore, she had no friends and nowhere to go. She knew of a few dodgers a few months ago that told her parents of the Spree and where they were located and the past code to get in. She took the elevator up to the top floor and took a deep breath as she exited. It was an open floor with a few desks and balloons. She smiled at the older woman in front of her, "The way over is under." She muttered. The woman responded, "The way out is in." She took Scylla's hand and led her to the balloons, "We are glad you could join us Scylla." "I'm glad to be here."
The last and final flash of memory that Raelle saw was of her and Scylla dancing at Charvel's wedding. She could feel how Scylla felt and that she kept checking the time. She could feel that Scylla regretted everything that she did with and for the Spree. Raelle heard the chime of six o'clock and the breath that Scylla held. The brunette pulled Raelle in closer as she whispered into her ear, "No matter what happens, know that I love you."
Raelle opened her eyes and looked at Scylla, their eyes meeting each other. She pulled away the napkin and threw it in the trash bin, the gash on Scylla's cheek completely healed. Raelle brushed Scylla's hair behind her ear and leaned over, kissing her softly, holding her close. The kiss broke, Raelle rested her forehead against Scylla's and closed her eyes, whispering, "I'm sorry. For everything. For not believing you, for listening to what they had said about you. For everything." She let out a long low sigh.
Scylla gently ran her hand up and down the blonde's arm, looking into her eyes, "Now you understand why I didn't want you to link with me. Why I didn't want to tell you everything from my past." Raelle nodded, pulling Scylla to her, their lips clashing together in a heat of passion.
After a few long moments of the two women swapping spit, Raelle pulled back. A bright smile grew on her lips as she looked into Scylla's eyes. She brushed a brown strand of hair behind the other's ear, caressing her cheek lovingly, letting out a soft, happy sigh.
Scylla was the first to break the silence, "I should go before Miss. High and Mighty comes back. Come to my room tonight?" She asked as she moved to the edge of the bed, standing up, looking down at Raelle.
Raelle let out a soft laugh, "I can't tonight. Training at 0500, but Friday night, I'm all yours." She stood up, wrapping her arms around Scylla, holding her tightly, seeing a small pout on the woman's wonderful features. "I know babe, but we are so much closer to the training grounds here than we would be in your barracks."
Scylla laughed and nodded softly, "I know Rae." She gave her a quick kiss and reluctantly pulled away from her girlfriend. Raelle reached out and opened the door, seeing Abigail and Tally standing in front of them. Scylla pushed past Abigail, throwing her shoulder into the slightly taller woman. She smiled at Tally, "I'll see you later Tal, Raelle." Tally nodded at Scylla and Abigail grumbled as she sat on her bed, taking off her boots. Raelle pulled Scylla back, standing in the door way and gently clutched her neck, kissing her passionately. Raelle pulled back, leaving Scylla grinning as she walked back down the hall and out of the barracks.
Raelle turned and stepped into the room, closing the door behind her. She glared at Abigail and went to lay on her bed. Tally sat next to Raelle and looked down at her, "Are you guys okay? I mean what happened besides you healing her?"
Ignoring the grumbles coming from Abigail's side of the room, Raelle looked at Tally. "I saw her parents as dodgers. I saw them surrender and still get shot in the head. I felt her loneliness as she joined the Spree. I felt her love for me when she chose me over them." She looked into Tally's eyes, her lips lifting up as she laid back on her bed, "I know why she did what she did and I know that if she had any other choice, she would choose differently. At the time that she joined the Spree, she felt it was her only option."
Tally smiled brightly, "I trust you to know Scylla. If you believe that she's changed, then I will forgive her." She touched her hand to Raelle's arm and got off the bottom bunk, climbing up to her own bed. Raelle glared over at Abigail and turned over on her side as she turned off her light and fell asleep quickly.
