Chapter 4, Tutoriel.

Toriel led Frisk through a couple of archways, soon they came to a place that was expertly made of purple stone, Frisk's eyes widened in wonder as she looked around, everything was so beautiful.

Toriel smiled at Frisk's amazement, "Welcome to The ruins Frisk, this is where monsters first created a new home, but now most have long since left this place and moved somewhere else" she explained.

"But if everyone moved away why are you here" asked Frisk, "I am the caretaker of The ruins, it's my job to look after this place, and I also come this way every day to see if anyone has fallen down from the surface" explained Toriel.

"Do you live here all alone" asked Frisk feeling sorry for Toriel, "Oh no, there are other monsters who still live here, just most of them decided to move" said Toriel making Frisk feel a little better.

Frisk continued to follow Toriel until they came to a room with a sealed door, "I forgot to mention, here in The ruins some of the rooms have puzzles that you have to solve in order to proceed" said Toriel.

Frisk looked around the room, there was a sign nearby and there was six tiles on the wall, Frisk was unsure of what to do, "Don't worry, I'll show you how to get passed this one" said Toriel.

Toriel walked over to the tiles and pressed the middle two, as soon as she did the door opened and Frisk and Toriel walked through.

"This next puzzle is quiet easy, why don't you try to solve it" said Toriel, Frisk looked around the room, she could see several switches and a few of them had something written next to them.

Frisk walked up to one of the marked switches and saw that the writing next to it said pull me, Frisk activated the marked switches and the door to the next room opened.

"Excellent work Frisk, I knew you could do it" said Toriel, Frisk smiled, it was nice for her to get prised for once, even if the puzzle had been laughably simple.

The next room's floor was completely covered in spikes, Frisk held onto Toriel's hand a little tighter at seeing the spikes, Toriel noticed that Frisk seemed to be afraid, "Perhaps this puzzle is a little difficult for someone of your age, but don't worry, I'll help you" she said.

Toriel carefully led Frisk through the spikes, as the two took each step the spikes in front of them retracted into the ground making it safe to proceed, once the two reached the end of the spiked floor Frisk breathed a sigh of relief.

The two continued to walk through the ruins, along the way Toriel tried to start a conversation with Frisk, "So Frisk, how did you fall down here anyway" she asked, "I don't want to talk about it" said Frisk with a hint of sadness, Toriel decided to leave that question there.

"Well what about your favourite foods, for instance do you prefer cinnamon or butterscotch" asked Toriel, Frisk thought for a second, "I don't know, I don't think I've ever tried either" she answered.

"I see, well do you have any allergies that I should know about" asked Toriel, "No, I don't think so" said Frisk as she wondered why Toriel was asking her these questions.

The two reached the end of a long hallway and Toriel suddenly stopped, "Frisk could I ask you to do something for me" she said, "Ok" said Frisk, "I have some important errands that I need to complete, would you please stay here until I come back" said Toriel, "Ok" said Frisk not wanting to upset Toriel.

Toriel smiled, "That's a good girl" she said as she ruffled Frisk's hair, Toriel was just about to leave when a though occurred to her, "But I really shouldn't leave you here all alone" she said sounding a little guilty.

Toriel snapped her fingers as she thought of a solution, "I know, I can give you this" she said as she reached into her pocket and pulled out a very old phone, "Here Frisk, my number's in this phone, if anything happens just call me" said Toriel as she handed Frisk the phone.

"Thank you" said Frisk as she took the phone, she was unused to people treating her this nicely, "Don't worry Frisk I'll be back soon, just stay safe" said Toriel as she left the room.

Frisk was now all alone, she looked around but the room was completely empty, Frisk sat down in a corner and hugged her knees to her chest waiting for Toriel to return.

Frisk stayed where she was for several minutes, just sitting there doing nothing was incredibly boring but Frisk was worried that she might anger Toriel if she left.

Suddenly the phone that Toriel had given to Frisk started to ring, Frisk pulled the phone from her pocket and answered it, "Hello" said Frisk, "Woof, woof" Frisk was immediately confused, it sounded like there was a dog on the other end of the line.

"Woof, woof", "No please come back here" said a voice that Frisk recognised as Toriel's, "Woof, woof", "No give that back you silly dog" said Toriel, at that point the phone hung up, Frisk wasn't completely sure what was going on but it sounded like Toriel was having a lot of trouble with that dog.

A few seconds passed and then the phone rang again, "Hello" said Frisk as she answered the phone, "Give that back" said Toriel, "Woof, grrrrr", "No don't swallow it" said Toriel, at that point the phone hung up again.

Frisk waited for another few minutes, she didn't get another call from Toriel and Frisk soon began to wonder if she was alright, "Maybe I should just call her and see if she's ok" thought Frisk as her called Toriel's number.

The phone rang several times but Toriel didn't answer, Frisk began to worry that something may have happened to Toriel, she thought about going to look for her, but she also didn't want to disobey what she said.

After a minute of thinking Frisk decided that she should go and look for Toriel, after all if she was in trouble then she might need help.

Frisk stood up and left the room determined to find Toriel.
