Hay Lin watches with a wide smile as Irma twinkles under all the blue and purple-pink lights. The other girls are playing slot machines or taking shots at the bar. Irma catches her eye again. She thinks she could stay here forever in this vibrant wonderland, illuminated by bright laughter. Or maybe it is the one laughing with her that makes her feel this way.
It is just after midnight when she is finally drunk enough to ask. Irma laughs. Realises that, for once, she is being serious. Laughs again.
Irma squeezes her hand outside the chapel. "Do you really think we're ready for this?"
She lays her forehead against hers. Hay Lin has never been more ready for anything in her life.
"I do."
