Chapter 169 – Is this still the same rebellion?
Incus's POV, Two hours later, Afghanistan.
"Ahhh! Ahhh!" Running into medical I found my sister's room and ran right into be stopped by Captain Freemen who begged.
"Stop Incus."
"What happened!?" I asked in disbelief she got shot.
From where I was standing I looked over Freemen's shoulder to see Captain Marhick alongside her bed. His head was down and eyes were shut as I shouted in a loud voice.
"Marhick!"
Across from him was a rebellion medic. He had blood all around his left leg as his hands were covered in what I could only assume to be my sister's; who was just laying there. A bandage wrapped around her neck. She was out cold and as Freemen held me as the medic looked right at me to state.
"There isn't anything more I can do Lieutenant. I'm sorry."
"What happened to her!?" I asked still shocked she was in this condition. As tears formed in my eyes the medic replied while getting a foot closer.
"She got shot. The round went right in her neck I'm afraid. The damage...?"
"Is the okay!?" I asked him as Marhick looked over finally to watch my face as the medic slowly stated.
"She's alive. But the bullet it...? The bullet went right through her vocal cords."
Widening my eyes I went silent as the medic then said.
"I got the round out, but I'm afraid the damage was dealt. She won't be able to speak again in this condition."
Instantly I got sent into tears as Marhick whispered in an utterly lost voice.
"I'm so sorry Incus. It's my fault this happened."
With Freemen letting me go I approach the wolf to question.
"What are you talking about?"
"I saw the man shoot her. I could have done something but I froze. He was a civilian. I couldn't pull the trigger. I'm so fucking sorry."
I was utterly lost as for what to say or for how to react. Marhick was actually crying as Freemen came behind me to grab my shoulder. Looking back into her eyes she urged.
"She's going to be okay. Just take your time and be with her when she wakes up. Marhick and I need to go back out there. Things are still not secure."
"How can I go back out there when I can't even do my fucking job!?" Marhick then asked aloud as Freemen widened her eyes to reply.
"You can when your a Captain of this army Marhick! We need you! Your men need you! Shit like this happens and I need you to be with me through this! Now get up!" She ordered him as the wolf hesitated to move from his spot alongside my sister who was sleeping soundly thank god. After a minute or so he got up very slowly and began to approach Freemen and I. Once in front of me he mumbled.
"I'm so sorry Incus. I really am. Please when she wakes up call me. I need to tell her I'm sorry. This shouldn't have happened to her. She was just doing her job and I fucked up."
I nodded my head as Freemen took him by the hand and guided him out of the room. Once left alone with the medic I wondered while approaching Vacus's bed.
"What's going to happen to her now?"
Walking with me as I reached her side, the medic replied.
"That's up to Captain Freemen. I don't know how she can go on serving without her voice."
"She can't speak!?" I questioned in shock as he nodded.
"The bullet went right through her cords Incus. She's lucky that's all she lost."
"Oh my god...?" I muttered as I sat down in Marhick's seat. With the medic coming around to me he placed his hand on my shoulder to urge.
"Be happy. She could be dead. Heheh."
My eyes just widened as he patted me and turned to leave. Once out of the room I refocused on my sister who was just laying there like a dead body. With no words to say I questioned what to do next. How was she going to serve without a voice?
Freemen's POV.
Marhick kept by my side as we ran head first into Commander Archer who was still dressed for combat. Rifle in arms he pointed at us as he approached to order with a commanding voice.
"You two?! What the fuck are you doing here still!? Get your asses outside!"
Widening my eyes as Marhick stopped in his tracks I replied.
"Lieutenant Vacus was injured sir. We were watching over her till her sister Incus could arrive."
Shaking his head and getting in my face Archer shouted back.
"There have been losses today other then Lieutenant Vacus Captain! And there will continue to be more if you two don't get your asses in gear! Am I clear!?"
"Yes sir!" I replied as Marhick muttered under his anger.
"That's bullshit."
"Excuse me Captain?!" Archer instantly replied back as Marhick now just stood his ground staring right back at the commander with ill intent. With his growl mixed with his words Marhick replied.
"The situation is under control...commander. And it's my fault she got hurt at all. If I want to spend my time by her side till her sister can get there, then I damn well will. And there isn't anything you can do about that."
I had wide eyes and a silent posture as Archer slowly lowered his rifle to question while getting in the big guy's face.
"You wana bet on that?"
Marhick continued to growl as Archer kept his menacing face on full display for him to see. I felt everything snap in my silence the second Marhick raised a hand to him. As fast as I could I jumped right in the middle and placed both my hands on his arms. Marhick kept his glare on Archer as I begged.
"Back up Captain. Just let it go. Come on. It's not worth it."
Marhick was just growling insanely hard as Archer said something I had no idea was coming.
"You want to try something? Come on then big man. Do it."
Getting mad I ordered.
"Shut up!"
"Watch your mouth!" He ordered back as Marhick kept behind me now as I turned around to face the commander who was getting in my face once again.
"You watch what you say to him! This isn't the time for you two to get in a fight and...? Smack!"
It was so sudden. Archer swung his right fist so fast and I wasn't expecting it at all. I fell straight down as Marhick gasped in shock from the turn of events. Pointing down at me Archer shouted.
"You don't get any say in what I decide to do! Do you know who you are and who I am?! I'm your superior and I won't tolerate anyone telling me what to do as acting commander to this rebellion! So get your ass up right now!" He ordered me as Marhick stepped in front of me to order.
"Don't do a fucking thing he says Freemen."
Just turning his grin into a smile Archer wondered.
"You two disobeying orders?!"
"Only when those orders are giving by someone like you!"
"You chose your next move wisely Captain! Cause if you do anything other then get back out there, I'll see to it personally that your next few days will involve you both resting in a cell for insubordination!"
"You just assaulted her you deranged fuck!" Marhick screamed at him as I sat up to place my hand up to my mouth. Wiping my mouth, I looked to my hand as I saw blood resting on my palm. With Marhick keeping his eyes dead on Archer. I stood up when he swung. Archer panicked as Marhick sent him stumbling away with a well placed hook to his left cheek. Using all my power I grabbed Marhick by his waist and pulled him back with a heavy yank.
"You want to talk about orders!? Don't you ever fucking lay a hand on her again you fucking asshole!" Marhick screamed as Archer had his hand under his chin keeping his jaw in place. With his body as still as a rock as I dragged Marhick back; I urged with a frantic sense of urgency to get the hell out of here.
"Stop Marhick! Stop!"
The wolf was twice my size, but I had more then enough strength to handle him like this. As we tried to get away Archer soon ordered.
"Captain Marhick and Captain Freemen! You two are under arrest for the crime of insubordination and assault of an officer!"
Widening my eyes as Marhick kept his rage up, I began to look around as some of the soldiers littering the hallway during all this time happened to be women and men from both our teams. All of which stood motionless as Archer ordered with a point to Jess who was feet behind me.
"Arrest them! All of you are ordered to apprehend the traitors! I want them down on the ground now!" He yelled as I flicked my whole body to Jess who was at a complete loss for what to do. Releasing Marhick I begged her.
"Don't Jess! You saw what just happened right!? You all did! We are not traitors! This guys a manic! Don't listen to him!"
As things were clearly out of hand, I panicked as commander Mason soon could be seen coming from behind us with a different set of soldiers at his back. All rifles up as Archer ordered.
"Apprehend them Mason!"
"What is going on!?" He soon asked around the hall as Jess was first to respond.
"Commander Archer assaulted Captain Freemen sir! Marhick was just protecting her!"
Giving her a smile through my fear, I looked to Archer as he replied with the same amount of anger to his voice.
"Freemen and Marhick have disobeyed orders and have taken it upon themselves to attack me Mason! You know what that means! Arrest them!"
Even Mason was lost in confusion for what exactly was happening. With my eyes going back to Jess, I jumped when I felt Marhick grab me by the wrist. Pulling me to his side he stated.
"We're leaving Captain. Right now."
"You step out of this building and you will be turning your back on this rebellion! You hear me you stupid fuck!? Think about what your doing! You gonna walk out on the rebellion Shadow Robotnik himself died to put together!?" Archer asked as Mason made a gap for us to back up into. My eyes watched as Marhick calmly replied.
"I'm not walking out on Shadow's rebellion. Shadow's rebellion died with him all those years ago you egotistical prick. I'm walking out on your rebellion. Voltz left for a good fucking reason and I can see it now after spending time with you. He saw what you were and he knew what you were doing to us. He wanted nothing to do with it."
With Marhick holding my hand as he backed us up, I listened on as he said with a strong voice. A voice I recognized.
"The rebellion died with him. It died cause he left it to you and I won't be caught dead following a man who shows no respect towards the people around him. The people risking their fucking lives out there."
"Raptor left because he was weak!" Stated Archer as Marhick shook his head to reply.
"That's where your wrong. Raptor is and always will be a real leader. Not some dictator like you."
"Dictator!?" Questioned Archer as I looked to Jess to urge.
"Come. All of you."
My women followed as so did Marhick's men. Archer began to panic as Mason found himself against the wall and out of our way. Getting a good distance away, Marhick pointed at Archer to urge.
"Go to hell. Both of you." Pointing at Mason as we reached the end of the hallway, I panicked as Marhick quickly turned with me still held by the hand. Out of Archer's sight Marhick began to lead us outside and away from all this. Once out there I asked in loss for what to do now.
"What now?"
Stopping in his tracks with our friends gathered around Marhick replied.
"I don't know about you all, but I didn't sign up to take the lives of the people living here. The people living in my home country. I didn't sign up to be a part of this and I will not follow someone like Archer. Not after that."
"So what do we do?" Wondered Jess as I tried to think. With no other option I replied.
"We get the hell out of here. Let this blow over and wait. Archer will have to do something."
"What if he declares us traitors?" A man asked as Marhick quickly replied.
"Then we have no other choice but to defend ourselves. I'm not a traitor. I fully believe in this war and so do all of you. That's why until something changes I'm...?" My eyes widened as Marhick looked to his arm. Ripping off his rebellion patch he said.
"Not wearing this."
Throwing the patch to the ground, I watched as many others began to do the same. Marhick smiled as I questioned.
"We can't kill our own. Not if it comes to that Marhick."
Shaking his head he replied.
"We won't be. I have a plan. Do you trust me?"
Staring into his eyes, I looked back at the capital. All my thoughts were left with Incus and Vacus as I soon looked back to reply.
"I do."
Keeping his smile Marhick then urged.
"Then follow me. All of you."
I had no clue what Marhick had in mind, but all I could think about was what we were doing by doing this. But I fully agree with him. Archer isn't Voltz. He isn't and until something changes I won't follow a man like that into battle or trust him with the lives of my friends. With Marhick looking to Jess he ordered.
"Get the word out to your teams. We aren't in this alone and he'll see that after today."
Jess nodded as I looked to her to also add.
"Get somewhere safe Jess. Please."
The gray hedgehog smiled as Marhick got us loaded into the same truck we rode in on not that long ago. Once in with a few of our friends I asked.
"Where to?"
The wolf didn't miss a beat.
"My place. You remember where it is?"
Nodding my head I hit the gas and got us out of the capital. Once on the road I questioned.
"Not everyone will follow you Marhick. Plenty of them will be scared."
"Let them be scared. In time they'll see the truth. Archer isn't and never will be the leader the middle east needs. And when it's time we'll do something about it."
Widening my eyes I questioned what he meant by that. This day has been the craziest night of my life and I knew from here on out it would just get worse.
"God please keep Incus and her sister safe."
Raptor's POV, Four hours later.
By now the sun was setting and I had no energy left to expel listening to Cody. He turned out to be a truthful guy and the way I could see it he was a fireball. Pepper and Zeta were getting attached and Blitz had fallen asleep. With my hand holding my phone, I looked to it as a call came through. Placing it up to my ear I answered.
"Hello?"
"Raptor where are you?" It was Watts.
"On my way to Jordon. Pepper managed to get out of Syria before we could get there. Last thing we heard she was eastbound and injured."
As the words left my mouth all heads that were up turned to look at me in silence. Pepper on the other hand immediately heard her name and got up to stare at me. Urging her to hold up with my hand, I listened as Watts questioned.
"You ditch the plane?"
"Had to once we landed. Military has the airport on lock down till order is restored. Things got a little hot when she was caught trying to leave the city."
"Shit. Any idea when you'll catch up?" He then asked as I calmly replied.
"We got her trail and thanks to that little hack job you did we managed to lock onto her laptop. If she stops at some point tonight to rest her wounds we'll get her."
Pepper who was standing idly by remained quiet as Watts went on to say.
"I can't get any help to you right now. After you left the country shit hit the fan really hard. People are fighting the rebellion troops and almost half the power grid got damaged. I'm lucky to get this call out to you."
"I should be okay now. I'll call back in a few hours with an update. Will you be up? It's early right?" I asked him as he quickly replied.
"Yeah I'll be up. Hard to sleep with gunshots going off all around the city Raptor. Just make sure you try to get her back alive. She's worth a lot more that way."
"Dead or alive you'll get paid Watts. Just give me time. I'll update you when I got something."
"Got it. Be careful."
"You too." I replied back as I hung up to be questioned almost instantly by the wolf herself.
"Who the fuck is that you're talking to? That the dumb fuck who managed to leave my port open?"
Nodding I replied.
"Yeah."
"Raptor made a deal with him Pep. His help and in return he gets paid part of our contract fees." Stated Zeta as Pepper quickly questioned.
"I get that much Zeta. But what the fuck happens if he finds out dumb fuck here isn't trying to kill or turn us in? You already tricked him with Zeta still being here so what's the plan? You got me now don't you? Why keep him mixed up in this shit? He can cause a lot of damage if he learns the truth Raptor."
Nodding my head I replied.
"That's why I made arrangements in advance."
With Pepper in confusion of what I meant. I urged with a calm tone.
"Take a seat. Shouldn't be long now."
Looking over to Zeta her sister watched as she just smiled and nodded her head to my suggestion. Looking back to me, she took her time but sat back down. Going back to my phone, I opened my messages and just waited. Things we're going to pan out. And now that things were under control I knew this was the perfect time to cut ties. I'm sorry Julie. But sometimes shit happens."
