Descendants: A Different Way
A "What if" story where Mal, Jay, Evie, and Carlos weren't the only ones to be chosen to attend Auradon Prep. Features MalxBen, CarlosxJane, EviexDoug, JayxLonnie, and GilxOC.
Prologue:
Once Upon A Time. Long, Long Ago. Well, more like twenty years ago Belle married her Beast in front of six thousand of their closest personal friends. Big cake. So instead of a honeymoon, Beast united all the Kingdoms and got himself elected King of the United States of Auradon. He then rounded up all of the villains and the sidekicks basically all of the really interesting people and booted them off onto the Isle of the Lost with a magical barrier keeping them there.
This is our hood. No Magic. No Wifi. No Way Out. Or so we thought. But first this happened.
(Auradon Castle)
Prince Benjamin Florian DesRosiers was being fitted for his coronation wear when his parents Queen Belle and King Adam DesRosiers walked in. After compliments Adam asked, "So I hear you have your first Royal Proclamation decided?" Ben said, "I do. I've decided to bring six children from the Isle of the Lost to study here in Auradon." Belle ever the sensible one asked, "Who are their parents?" Ben said, "Maleficent, Evil Queen, Jafar, Cruella DeVil, Vanitas, and Gaston." King Adam said in a rage, "Maleficent?! She was a menace! Vanitas is Darkness personified! And Gaston tried to kill me!" Ben said, "Their parents were punished to be on the Isle but their children are innocent." Belle once she calmed her husband said, "I suppose your right. The parents were punished. But the children are innocent."
Chapter 1: Hard Knock VK Life:
Gil LeGume was grumbling as he took what little he had on his former Captains ship to the only safe haven on the Isle of the Lost, Vanitas Darkwind's home. It was basically a home for unwanted VK's. He knew by now, that Mal, Carlos, Jay, and Evie were told about the invitation to Auradon. There were about ten other kids of various ages. Hannah Hook a sweetie who you would never believe was Captain Hook's youngest daughter. Eli Mills the son of the Evil Queen she up and abandoned because he was a boy and not a girl she could manipulate. Uriah Tritanis the younger brother of Uma and son of Ursula. Tabitha Zoom daughter of Trubo/King Candy and half sister of Carlos DeVil not that he knew that. Evie didn't even know her brother was alive. Gina Ratcliff the daughter of Govenor Ratcliff who seemed more open minded of other cultures and was generous compared to her older brother Garrett or her father. Heidi LeFay was the youngest daughter of Prince Hans and daughter of Morgana LeFay she was hated by both of her parents. By her father for her kind attitude and by her mother because she only wanted to learn healing magic and spells to help others. Parker Callahan son of Yokai/Professor Callahan hated his dad for being such a sore loser trying to destroy the world so he find his older sister. Jenna Djinn daughter of Jafar who had been kicked out at age three when her brother who had no idea she existed, made his first successful theft for the shop. Lastly was Vanitas' daughter Vanessa Darkwind. Vanitas away from Xehanort, who lived on the opposite end of the Isle and had a band that would send a shock if he was anywhere near the dark Keyblade Wielder, really mellowed out. He had time to reflect on his actions and what Xehanort's influence forced him to do. He realized he screwed up. But vowed to teach the VK's he protected to be better than their parents. Just because the adults were fuck ups didn't mean they were. Gil heard the kids sweeping or cleaning up. While calling out the harsh life they were forced to endure due to the rules of Auradon.

Gil dropped his ratted backpack on the ground and asked Vanessa, "Nessa you guys have an empty bed I can crash on? Uma kicked me off the ship and crew cause of the Auradon thing." Vanessa said, "There's a spare bed in Uriah and Parker's room. Unless you would rather room with Eli and Mitchell." Gil said, "I'll crash with Parker and Uriah like usual. What did your dad say about Auradon?" The kids at the Shadowed Light House knew the owner's daughter and Gil had been chosen to go to Auradon. Vanessa said, "Dad was so proud. He told me this was my chance to forge my own path. But to remember the less fortunate kids here. Maybe convince Prince Ben to find other ways to help the unwanted kids. Like Heidi's best friend Dizzy." Gil nodded sagely. Gil himself was an unwanted kid. Because he liked to read, bake, sew, and do things that were seen as girly or pathetic by his father. His three wives Tara, Cara, and Mara the bimbettes as they were commonly called birthed his siblings Gastonella, Gastonique, Gaston Junior, and Gaston the Third.
Gil's own mother Hecate like his uncle Hades had been shunted to the Isle. Much like Vanitas she mellowed out when she had time to reflect on her actions. She taught him how to read, sing, dance, sew, knit, cook, bake, and many other things. Gaston was furious and forbade Gil to ever see his mother again. Before the last time he saw her she left him a keychain and a special necklace. The necklace was a protection charm. The keychain would transform into a weapon should he ever need it. Gil found that the people of Auradon turned their back on magic even locking up magical artifacts in a museum. Gil himself felt that was a very stupid thing to do. Magic was a foundation in their stories as heroes. To turn their backs on the very thing that made their so called 'happily ever afters' and telling their kids that magic can't give them a happily ever after was very hypocritical of the heroes. At least in Never Land, Radiant Garden, Twilight Town, Daybreak Town, Scala ad Caelum, and Destiny Islands they were still using magic. Which was why those lands were allies and not full Auradon territories. They weren't as hypocritical as most Auradonians.
Two weeks later Vanessa and Gil walked off to Baragain Castle with their things. Gaston telling his son to kill the King on the walk there! Mal having been told to take the Fairy Godmother's wand. Inside the limo, Vanessa was drinking a fizzy drink she found was called soda and munching on a cookie. Gil was drinking a Pepsi while reading a book. Mal commented, "I thought you wouldn't come GIl. Figured one of Uma's crew would decline the invite." Gil looked up from his book and said, "The second they saw the invite, Uma and Harry told me to pack what I had on the ship and never return. They kicked me out of the crew. Moved to Vanitas' place where the other unwanted kids live." Jay asked confused, "Other unwanted kids?"
Vanessa replied, "At the time Gil and I left there were nine others. Uriah who is Uma's brother. Ursula only wanted daughters. Hannah Hook Harry's kid sister a sweetheart who her father abused. She has some scars from when the Hook was scraped on her back. Dad was pissed. Eli, who is Evie's brother abandonded due to the fact he was a boy. Ember and Mitchell Mal's younger siblings. Her mom decided Mal was her one shot to return to her glory days so she didn't need the twins. Dumped them in the garbage when they weren't even a year old. Your dad didn't even know they existed! Tabitha Carlos' half sister was abandoned by their father because she preferred nature and the like to video games and science. She doesn't have much of a sweet tooth either. Parker who is Youkai's kid, was dumped because he told his father off for his stupidity. Gina who is Govenor Ratcliff's daughter was kicked out because she wanted to learn about other cultures and wasn't greedy like her dad or older brother Garrett. Heidi LeFay who has her mom's last name is the youngest daughter of Prince Hans. She's the little sister of Helena you know, miss 'looks like and angel but is a bitch in reality', Heidi is a genuine sweetie and is Dizzy Tremaine's best friend. Last is Jenna Djinn your little sister Jay. Your dad dumped her when you were six and she was three. Dad turned our place into the Shadowed Light House. A glorified Orphanage more or less. Dad sneaks into various places to get food and medical supplies for the kids of the house. Since the barrier can't keep dad's Unversed from spawning, they patrol the grounds keeping the parents away from the kids. Some kids would go there to get a somewhat warm meal. the blankets we have are nearly threadbare but dad makes due with what he can find." Unknown to the six VK's the limo driver was listening. Chip, Mrs. Potts son was the driver and he felt so bad for the kids. Four of them never even knowing about their siblings and the other two finding solace in unwanted children. Maybe once Ben was King he could talk to him about sending warmer balnkets and clothes to the Shadowed Light House. As well as some better food for the kids too.
Ben saw the six teens chosen. King Adam and Queen Belle were standing with their son. Seeing Gaston's son for the first time. Unlike his father he had sandy blonde hair and deep blue eyes with some green flecks. In one hand was a well worn book. One that was one of Belle's favorites. His other hand was on the shoulder of a girl with black hair and green eyes with a few flecks of amber. Adam seemed to think Gil only read as a way to endear himself to Belle. A woman said, "I am Fairy Godmother, the Headmisstress of Auradon Prep. Welcome to our school Gil, Vanessa, Mal, Evie, Jay, and Carlos." Vanessa asked, "Lady Jerrica, why do you go by the title you use as your name?" Everyone even Ben gave the raven haired VK and odd look save for Gil. He knew that Vanessa read his books and he didn't mind since he left them with her rather than keep them at home where his father would tear them up. Fairy Godmother or rather Lady Jerrica said, "I prefer my title to my name. As I was a bit of a rebel for a fairy in my younger days."
Gil bowed humbly, "Queen Belle, King Adam thank you for giving this chance." Belle said, "Most call you King Beast rather than your name. That's a nice change. And the book you have is one of my favorites Gil." The sandy blonde blushed. "Vanitas found it in one of the barges used for trash. He cave it to me the first time I came to stay at Shadowed Light House." Ben intrigued by the name asked, "What is Shadowed Light House anyways?" Vanessa said, "Third biggest manor on the Isle. Dad's Unversed as they come from his emotions patrol the grounds keeping parents away from the kids. Due to the fact most of the kids who stay there are unwanted in some way, shape, or form by their parents. Usually for some ridiculous reason. Gil came to stay two weeks before we came here. It's a glorified orphanage. Dad despite, Xehanort's influence really mellowed out. He saw how bad many parents treated their kids. Shadowed Light House is the only safe haven on the Isle. Dad has to scrounge around through the barges and what not for things. Old blankets, sheets, and what not. He finds things like vegetables. He used the seeds to make a small garden on the grounds. Fruit isn't mush options, most meals usually have salads and the occasion thing like chicken or beef. More often than not fish since Gil catches it at the dock." Ben and Belle looked stunned. Jerrica was silent as Adam said, "I'm sure there can be something arranged later on once the students and people see you are not evil."
Jerrica said, "Come along now. It's time to take you six to your dorms. Now were weren't expecting that it would be three boys and three girls. So we had to do some searching through the dorms. Now there are two double occupancy rooms for Mal and Evie along with Jay and Carlos. As Vanessa and Gil were the surprise pair, Queen Kairi of Radiant Garden sponsored you two for the Smart Dorm. It's like a smart house just a little smaller. It has a small kitchenette and each of your dorms has it's own bathroom." The 'Smart Dorm' was really cool. Gil asked, "This is our dorm?" Jerrica chuckled, "Yes. This is the sitting room. The door lined in yellow is Vanessa's room and the door lined in blue is your room Gil. To control the room you just talk. We just need to record your voice." She held something out to Gil. "Here talk into this. You can say anything." Gil said, "Um, my dad sucks." Ben muffled his laughter. Holding the device to Vanessa the ravenette said, "I think I'm gonna like it here." Jerrica said, "Glad you think so dear. Each VK has a sponsor who sends them a set ammount each week. Gil is being sponsored by Milo Thatch and his wife Kida. You Vanessa are being sponsored by Roxas Hikari and his wife Xion. Jay is being sponsored by Jasmine and Aladdin. Evie is being sponsored by Sofia of Enchancia. Mal is being sponsored by Flora Fairweather one of the three fairies who watched over Aurora. Carlos is being sponsored by Roger and Anita." Jerrica said, "Now how about I show you two the full work of this dorm while Ben shows your comapnions the rest of the school. I can take you on a tour after you know this works." Once Male, Evie, Carlos, Jay, and Ben left Vanessa and Gil started to sing.

Vanessa opened the door to the room she was told was hers. And the interior shocked her to the core.
Vanessa: Is this a Princesses room?
Jerrica/F.G: No Vanessa, this your room

Jerrica chuckled at the pair's eagerness. And showed the two around the school She said, "King Adam has made Goodness Class a requirement. So you two will join Mal, Jay, Carlos, and Evie in Remedial Goodness starting Monday. We brought you over on a weekend to get you settled and into a sort of routine for Auradon."
Once Gil and Vanessa returned to their dorm Jerrica went to meet with Queen Belle and King Adam. Prince Ben was there waiting. Adam asked, "How did the children settle in?" Ben replied, "I think they settled in rather well. Mal did ask why we don't practice magic in Auradon. I had to explain the laws. Evie was more interested at gawking at the guys we passed. Carlos seemed jumpy. Jay was looking at the Tourney trophies." Adam said, "Sounds wonderful son. Fairy Godmother, what about your pair Gil and Vanessa?" Jerrica chuckled, "The two are very eager to see everything Auradon has to offer and really want to try everything our country has to see, do, and try." Adam seemed shocked. Belle seemed amused. Ben however seemed thrilled. Adam said, "Well, we'll keep an eye on the Wicked Six for now and see how things go. If all goes well, we shall consider sending for more children. And possibly review the cases of the parents."
In Vanessa and Gil's dorm both were on a couch in their pajamas which were provided by the school once they were given the names and sizes for the group. Vanessa's were light gray with pink stars. Gil's were blue with red polkadots. Gil said, "This was a great idea. One day and I'm glad I came." Vanessa said, "I know. I hope that things change for everyone even those we left on the Isle. It wouldn't be fair if it was only us." Gil asked, "Why would the Auradonians make it good for others?" Vanessa said, "Their all heroes. Heroes are all about fair and playing by the rules." Gil laughed, "True that 'Nessa. Sweet dreams." Vanessa said, "Sweet dreams Gilly. See you in the morning."
