Chapter 178 – Ahhhhh?
Zeta's POV, Five minutes ago.
All I could do was yawn. Even as I tried to brush my teeth. Pepper on the other hand was quietly getting dressed in the other room. Looking out at her as she got on one of my black undershirts I asked with the brush in my mouth.
"You still fit in my clothes?"
Looking up at me as she was putting on her boots now she replied.
"That suppose to be a joke?"
Just laughing as I took the brush out from my mouth to spit. I slowly turned my focus back to her to wonder.
"Not funny?"
Smiling slightly she replied.
"It fits fine. Even the underwear."
"Good." I said to her back as I gurgled some water then went out to grab my watch. As I got it on I asked her.
"Want to get something to eat? I'm sure the others are up by now."
Standing up from the bed, Pepper replied with some sass.
"You think that old man got up this early? He's probably laid out in bed still."
Laughing I then said to her while looking to my guns.
"Nah he'll be up. He has set times to take his vitamins. Remember?"
Pepper laughed back as I decided to leave my guns here. At the same rate I urged Pepper who was already picking up her crossguard from off the bed.
"Leave that here. We're going to eat breakfast. Not shoot Cody."
Giving me this glare back my sister replied while grabbing her belt.
"It's not Cody I'm worried about. Just let me do me. Okay?"
Letting her be; I waited till she was ready then got the door. Together we went to the main room to see Roman and Blitz talking at the main table. Stretching my back as we both approached, I said with an equally stretched voice.
"You up to Blitz? Figure you'd be asleep."
"I slept pretty good on the plane over her Zeta. The bed was nice and all but I can't force myself to sleep any more then ten hours tops."
This table was huge. Or should I say long? It had enough space for twenty people and as I got a seat pulled up Roman asked.
"You two sleep good?"
"Like a rock." I replied as Pepper got seated first to ask back.
"Anything for breakfast? I was expecting the presidential treatment this early."
Laughing Roman replied.
"The cooks are getting things finished up. Food will be here within the next few minutes. Just relax."
Letting out a small breath Pepper went silent. Getting myself down next to her I wondered to the cat.
"Any word from Raptor or Cody? They get up yet?"
Suddenly Roman's face changed with the question. He got a tad more personal as he replied with an almost lost voice.
"Cody I think is still asleep. As for commander Voltz well...?" Blitz, Pepper and I all began to stare at him as it was clear he was about to say something. Keeping strong however the cat stated.
"He was up about an hour ago."
Sitting up Pepper questioned almost concerned with him.
"Where is he?"
I sat up with her as Roman quickly replied in a defensive tone.
"He went out with Molly. Wanted to go hunting with her for the first time."
Immediately Pepper asked me.
"We going after him?"
Nodding I replied.
"We should. Just in case. The guy does nothing but causes trouble."
Sensing tension rising Roman shouted to us.
"He promised not to go far from the estate! Between his training and the guards, if there was any trouble it would be handled right and without harm coming to any of them! There isn't a reason to get riled up!"
Pepper and I just looked back to him from where we were seated with lost expressions on our faces. Roman on the other hand smiled and said peacefully.
"Everything is under...?"
With his eyes looking up and behind us. Pepper, Blitz and I all turned our heads to widen our eyes. Raptor came through the front door. Molly running in like a speeding bullet towards the table as she saw me sitting there. Letting out a deep breath, Raptor looked up at us to state.
"Feels much better in here. Right Molly?"
"Braf!" She replied as she reached my feet to jump up and onto my lap. With my eyes however locked on Raptor I was utterly silent at what I noticed already about him. Just bringing his arms up to rub his sides, Raptor slowly reached under his cloak he had on to pull out his glock which had it's receiver slid back. Approaching the front end of the table we watched in silence as he unloaded the empty clip and placed it back under his cloak; to what I could only assume to be his belt. Then without another word he stepped out of his cloak to expose the rest of his body. With his posture completely calm he looked up to us to wonder.
"What?"
I was stumped by how dumb he was to even ask that question. Looking to Pepper, I gave her this utterly shocked look as she had her eyes quickly flick back to the hedgehog in question. Looking back to him for myself I asked.
"What the fuck happened?"
Pulling out a chair he replied.
"I took her out hunting with me about an hour ago. Went really well actually. She's a born tracker. Caught herself two rabbits and a deer. Isn't that right baby?" He asked her as we all looked to her.
"Braf! Braf!"
Roman was wide eyed still and just staring at Raptor as it was clear there was more to the story. Going first Pepper stated almost dumbfounded by the whole thing we were experiencing right now.
"You got that from two rabbits and a deer?" Pointing to his chest we all stared at a huge and I mean huge fucking claw mark going down his breastplate. Looking to it he replied.
"I mean shit happens."
Pepper slammed her head into the table as I just laughed out loud in disbelief to what I just heard. Blitz also chuckled as Raptor wondered to Roman.
"What's for breakfast? Anything good?"
Sitting up to yell at him Pepper shouted.
"Are you fucking serious?! Shit happens!? What the fuck did you run into out there!? A god damn bear?!"
Looking to her in confusion, he replied almost confused on how to answer at all.
"Ahhhhhh...yeah? And your cousins I think."
Pepper shot him this utterly lost look of confusion as I stood up out of my seat to approach him. Molly went to my sister probably cause she looked just like me. And as I approached Raptor I asked.
"Are you serious?"
Just giving me this puppy eyed looked he replied.
"Go outside and see for yourself. Brought it back with us."
Pepper took no time to run for the front door. Roman and Blitz also went to it as I also was tempted. Raptor remained at the table as we got outside to see four of those GenSec guards all at work around the bed to a truck. Inside however was nothing closer then the truth. There was a fucking brown bear in the back. Dead and it's face shot to pieces. Pepper was shocked as I just questioned what he was even doing this close to the estate. Bears should be hibernating. Seeing our faces one of them said with a laugh to his voice.
"Fucking huge right? Commander Voltz and that dog of his are two crazy sons of bitches. Took this guy down and a pack of wolves three miles west of here. We're going to dump him here Captain then go back for the rest. Meat like this will last us a few weeks right?"
Roman just was in shock. But happy shock as my sister looked over to me. Smiling I said to her.
"I told you he was...ahhhhhh special?"
Turning around, Pepper went right back for the estate. Blitz and Roman remained out there as the two of us soon found ourselves right back alongside Raptor who was at work wiping his face with a napkin. Coming to his side, I placed my hand on his chest to push him back in his seat. His eyes widened as Pepper got right next to me to question.
"Again are you fucking insane? The first thing you do is go out there alone to hunt a brown bear? How are you not fucking dead?"
With Raptor knowing he was in a strange place between us he replied.
"It's not like I went out there looking for him. We took down a deer and it spotted us as we tried to leave."
"Then what?" She asked roughly as I ran my hand over the claw mark. The thing was the size of my whole hand it was crazy.
"We ran." Raptor replied as my sister kept him locked down.
"We were being tailed by some wolves who must have been out looking for food. I got to an open clearing just west of here and had no choice but to fight. Between them and the bear out there I had no where to go."
"How are you not hurt?" She then questioned as it was clear Raptor was at some point bleeding from his shoulder. You could see the blood on his armor up there. Raptor saw our looks towards it and lied through his teeth.
"It's from the wolves. They got close but I'm fine. Molly is too. Right Molly?"
Looking to his lap where she now was she replied.
"Braf!"
Smiling Raptor then stated.
"We're okay. Trust me I didn't want to fight that thing. I had no choice. You know how fast that thing can run?"
"Yeah. I do." Pepper replied as I knew she was shocked still by this whole thing. Just smiling I said back to him.
"That's not coming out."
Looking to his chest he replied.
"Yeah I kinda figured. Am I in trouble?"
I chuckled as Pepper replied.
"Yeah dumb fuck. You are. First day here and you're off trying to die? The least you could have tried to do is tell one of us when your planning to go commit suicide. Don't you understand why your even here? Do you remember at all?"
"Pepper chill." I urged her as she shook her head to reply.
"Our job is to keep your dumb ass safe. That is our job right?" She asked him as he carefully replied while lowering his voice.
"Yeah."
Nodding Pepper then went on to say.
"Then do yourself and the world a favor and tell one of us next time. Your too important to lose. I don't know who you think you are or what your made of, but you want to go hunting? I'll take you hunting."
Looking to her with some shock she even offered, Raptor questioned.
"You? You and me? Hunting?"
Nodding Pepper replied.
"It's dumb luck you found the only bear on the planet that has joint problems and can't seem to hit you in a more protected spot. It's also luck you came across the only pack of wolves that didn't know how to properly hunt. Cause if they were any good you'd be dead."
Raptor went silent as I just shook my head to her idea of jokes. But I knew she was serious and Raptor did too. With things going silent for a moment, we all looked over to our right as Cody came walking out. Dressed down but still wearing the uniform. Only had a gray tank top on as he widened his eyes to ask.
"What happened?"
Looking to him Pepper replied.
"You won't even fucking believe it if we tell you Irish. How about you step outside for a second and figure it out for yourself what dumb fuck here went and did first thing in the morning with his seeing eye dog."
Molly let out a growl and a strong bark back at my sister as Cody clearly saw the blood all along Raptor's shoulder and cloak which was still hanging on the chair behind him.
"Okay?" He replied in confusion as we watched him step out the front door. Seconds later we heard.
"Holy shit!"
I just shook my head as Cody came running back in to question.
"You took that thing down? On your own?"
"I had her." Raptor stated as Cody had to stop himself from going further with his voice. Taking a moment to breath, Raptor soon said.
"No one was hurt. Both Molly and I are okay. And we got in some good practice."
Looking right to my sister's eyes Raptor said to her directly.
"It was a dumb idea not to at least wake one of you guys up to come help. So next time you have my word I'll come and say something to ya. Okay?"
Pepper took a moment to chill out as he then stated to her.
"I never claimed to be smart. But trust me at least a little when I say things are okay now. All I want to do is eat something and relax. We cool?" He wondered as he put out his hand for her. Pepper to no surprise to me at least replied.
"You put a gun to my head last night. So no matter what you say you can go politely fuck yourself. I'm glad nether of you got hurt but don't fucking think for a second you can screw me over. My sister trusts you. She's trying to get me to trust you. Even after the shit you pulled last night. That doesn't give you a reason to go by me or her. Or even Irish here. Right now my job is to apparently keep you safe. Keep you alive. And according to her, doing that will get me out of my contract some day. Same as hers. So that means since I really don't have much of a choice, and I don't plan on leaving her side again for anything. That means I'm going to work my ass off to keep you above ground. Even if I hate you. By the way you got yourself in this mess the second you claimed we were your guards. So being as that may; you're ass belongs to me until we get you back to the middle east. You want to stop causing trouble between us? Then do what I want and tell me when you have an idea. Cause I won't have this one chance at life get taken away cause you were too stupid to speak up."
Raptor and her had their eyes locked as I bit my tongue. Cody on the other hand came over to his side to check his shoulder. Not giving Pepper an answer back, Raptor sat there and looked up to Cody to say.
"It's not mine."
"Okay good. Haha." Cody replied as he then saw the claw mark on his chest piece. With wide eyes he stated.
"God damn that thing fucked you up."
"I'm good Cody. Can we all just chill now that things are under control?"
I looked to my sister as she very slowly pulled back down and into a seat. Nodding my head I replied.
"That sounds good. Breakfast will be here any minute."
Cody instantly shouted.
"Thank god! I was starving!"
Everyone but Pepper laughed as Blitz and Roman soon came back inside. Their eyes still on Raptor as I sat back down. Then a minute later the food came and it felt like the problem was resolved between him and my sister. She has the biggest balls I swear. Last night she was open and scared almost about what happened between them and just now she put a foot down and he took it. I was expecting much more, but I was starting to learn that Raptor doesn't fight back when he knows he was wrong. I just got a smile on my face thinking about it. Everyone who wasn't myself truly had no idea how this old man was capable of doing what he did. It was like he was a god or something.
Letting out a very small laugh, Pepper looked to me to ask.
"What's so funny?"
Shaking my head I replied.
"It's nothing. Let's just eat. I'm starving like Cody said."
"Amen." Cody replied as we all began to dig in.
With the first minute passing, Raptor occasionally looked over to me. His eyes said it all. He wasn't planning on telling Pepper anything about what he was or how it came to be. The story is unbelievable and it would sound crazy if he just tried to tell her about it. It's something she needs to see for herself to believe and part of me wished he was hurt so that he could. But I know why he doesn't want to rush it. Not getting any more attention from my sister was probably top on his list of things to do. So with a smile still on my face I looked back at him to wink. He smiled back as I knew he was fucking insane to begin with.
