Percy
They passed the Candy Store "Sweet on America" and Percy immediately got tunnel vision.
"Let's go let's go let's go!" Percy said, grabbing Annabeth's arm and pulling her along absentmindedly.
"Percy, what the heck is going on?" Annabeth asked.
"My mom used to work here," he said. "I know some of the workers and I want to say hi."
Annabeth called to Piper to text her wherever they were so that they could get back to them once they were done with the candy store and followed along behind Percy.
"Also, this place has blue jellybeans," he said.
"Ah yes. Your blue food obsession," Annabeth said.
"I wouldn't call it an obsession but instead call it a necessity," Percy joked with a sarcastic smirk.
Annabeth rolled her eyes and shook her head. She muttered something about addiction and death by sugar.
Percy opened the door for her like a gentleman. Annabeth grinned. "Well look at you being a gentleman."
"Hey, I'm a gentleman all of the time," Percy joked.
They walked inside and immediately both Percy and Annabeth recognized one of the boys standing in line with blonde hair that looked like it was chopped by a sword and gray eyes. "Hold up, hold up, hold up. Magnus?" Annabeth asked. Ah yes. Magnus Chase. Not as Sassy as Percy, but the same level of sarcastic.
"Annabeth? Percy?" Magnus asked. "What are you two doing here?"
"Well my mom used to work here and I wanted to see if any of the workers I knew were still here," Percy said.
"And Percy goes to my school. And it's the weekend so we were shopping around with some other friends," Annabeth said.
"Aw, are you two on a date?" Magnus teased.
"Nope. Have you asked Alex out yet?" Annabeth teased right back.
"Oh, burn, Wise Girl!" Percy said after that they both high-fived while Magnus blushed.
"So, how's Uncle Randolph's place? Your Uncle on your dad's side, Odin, he helped you change it to the Chase Space, right?" Annabeth asked.
"Yeah. I'm actually getting a bulk candy order for the kids there as a treat," Magnus said with a grin.
"That's awesome," Percy said. "Hey, is Tyson there?"
"Actually no. He met his biological dad!" Magnus said happily. "He went to live with him and Tyson is really happy there."
"Are you serious?" Percy asked. "That's awesome!"
Magnus nodded and then started to order his candy once he got to the front of the line. Percy and Annabeth started talking about the candy they wanted and got into a fight over whether milk chocolate or dark chocolate was better.
"The milk enhances the chocolate!" Percy said.
"The milk overshadows the chocolate!" Annabeth said.
"The dark chocolate is bitter!" Percy said.
"The dark chocolate is bitter and then sweet," Annabeth said. "Eat bitter taste sweet, as the Chinese proverb goes."
Percy blinked for a second. He didn't know what a proverb was. But he knew that he definitely wasn't going to mention that to Annabeth.
"To each his own," Percy said. "Even if his own is absolutely terrible dark chocolate."
Annabeth laughed and Percy watched her gray eyes sparkle with mischief. He felt his heart start pounding a little faster and his cheeks grew hot. Why did she have to have really pretty eyes? They could make him freaking terrified or make him want to start laughing along with her.
Magnus turned around with his huge bag of candy. "I have to go, but you guys stay cool, alright?" he asked.
"Yeah we can do that," Percy said with a grin.
Annabeth gave Magnus a hug and said, "See ya cousin."
"See ya," Magnus said as he walked away.
They both moved up to the front of the line and started to order. Percy ordered a lot of blue jelly beans and some colored white sea salt caramel. Annabeth got some dark chocolate bears which were colored red and a blue lemon-lime soda.
The worker at the candy counter handed them their bags of candy, they paid, and were about to move away when a voice said, "Percy Jackson is that you?"
He turned around to see a woman behind the counter who looked around thirty. "Lilly!" I'm just assuming that Sally made some friends at "Sweet On America" which is why Lilly exists.
"Percy Jackson get your butt over here and let me look at you!" Lilly said.
They both walked over and Lilly grabbed his shoulders and gave him a hard stare. "Well you're taller and your hair still makes you look like a skater punk."
Annabeth snorted and Lilly looked at her. "And who is this?"
"I'm Annabeth Chase. I go to Percy's new school," Annabeth said.
"Well aren't you just the prettiest little thing," Lilly cooed. "Nice job, Percy."
"Why does everyone think we're dating?!" Percy exclaimed.
"Third time it's happened today," Annabeth muttered.
"Well maybe it's a sign," Lilly said sassily. "Now, I'll tell your mother you came to visit me," she said to Percy. "Any messages you want to pass along?"
"Tell her that I would be fine if she sent me more jellybeans," Percy said. "And that I love her."
"You are such a mama's boy and I am all for it," Lilly said with a grin. "Now get out of here you crazy kids. Go enjoy the sunshine."
Annabeth and Percy laughed and started walking out of the shop.
"Is Lilly your mom's friend?" Annabeth asked.
"Yeah. She used to help me with my homework while my mom was on shift," Percy said. "She's really embarrassing sometimes but mostly she's just cool. Her husband taught me how to skateboard."
"A skater boy," Annabeth said with a teasing grin.
"Oh yeah, Wise Girl," Percy teased. "You go to school with a professional punk."
"You didn't need to inform me. I already knew," Annabeth said.
They both laughed and followed Piper's direction to central park, laughing and chatting on the way.
