Hazel
CLASH! CLASH! CLASH! "Gotcha!" Hazel yelled.
"I'm pretty sure you're supposed to end with halt," Percy complained.
"Yeah, well, Halt. Gotcha. I won," Hazel said with a grin.
It was no secret Hazel loved fencing. The minute she had gotten to C.H.B. and had Coach Hedge teach her fencing, she had fallen in love. The clah of the foils, the french words, every precise tap. It all felt natural.
"Rematch?" Percy asked.
"You're on," Hazel said with a grin.
"En Garde! Pretes! Allez!" Mr. Quinn yelled. He was refereeing the match. My stupid English computer doesn't have accents so you'll just have to use your imagination. I mean, that's kind of what fanfiction is all about. Imagination.
CLASH! CLASH! CLASH! CLASH CLASH! "Halt!" Percy yelled.
"Are you guys aware that only the referee is allowed to say Halt and end the match?" Mr. Quinn asked with a grin. "But regardless, Percy won that match."
Hazel grinned and the two of them shook hands and went to the separate changing rooms to shower and change clothes. Annabeth joined them and the two of them started to chat about fencing.
"You totally whipped his butt," Annabeth said.
"But he won the last match," Hazel said.
"But you beat him most of the time."
"You and Jason are so evenly matched that you guys seemed to be fighting for hours," Hazel said.
"Well, practically."
Sometimes, Hazel really thought she should have been born in the 1940's.
The eight of them were watching Iron Man and Hazel found herself absolutely scandalized when Tony and Christine Everhart slept together. She fanned her face, growing rather hot, and ignored all of Leo's quips.
"Oh my lord," she said.
"Hey Brian, if you still believe in the lord! Get on your hands and knees and pray for us," Percy sang.
"TikTok ruined that song," Piper murmured.
"SHUT THE HECK UP! My ship is approaching!" Calypso yelled as Pepper and Tony had a conversation. Piper and Calypso watched as their ship interacted, trying to contain their fan girl energy.
Hazel settled into pillows propped up on the couch. They had gotten permission from Chiron to watch Iron Man in the common room as a group. Percy and Annabeth were cuddled on one side of the couch while Jason and Piper were on the other. Hazel, Frank, Leo, and Calypso were scattered on the floor and couch. Hazel sat next to Calypso, both of them sharing a blanket. February made everything seem cold.
"I love this movie," Percy said after Tony said something sassy. "But Peter Quill is so much sassier."
"Don't you dare disrespect my sassy lassy Tony," Leo argued.
"Not trying to," Percy said, hands in surrender.
"Peter and Gamora do have more chemistry than Pepper and Tony," Piper admitted.
"You take that back!" Leo yelled, throwing a pillow at Piper and Jason.
"I will not take that back! I defend my ships till my last breath!" Piper yelled. Now where have I heard that before. *looks at a ship war online* Oh right. Fandoms can be trash fires.
"Then prepare to die!" Leo yelled back. The two of them started to pillow fight, Jason being a civilian casualty. Hazel laughed as Frank shushed them and Calypso yelled at them.
For some reason, the commotion made Hazel a little sleepy. She leaned back into the pillows and imagined home. Not her mother, but Sammy and all of the good times they had.
But then she realized something. They hadn't made a single memory as boyfriend and girlfriend except the train station. All of their memories together had been as only friends. And to be honest? Hazel didn't really want to change that. She wanted to stay friends. They would be better that way, Hazel decided. And she decided to tell him that over the phone that weekend.
With that decision settled, she tried to watch the movie but that failed miserably. She found herself falling asleep on Calypso's shoulder who was being extremely nice about the whole thing.
She woke up to Frank shaking her awake. Hazel opened her eyes and Frank said, "Time to wake up, sleepyhead."
"I'm up. The movie over?" Hazel asked.
"Yeah, but Calypso, Leo, and I were the only ones who stayed awake," Frank said. "Piper, Jason, Percy, and Annabeth all fell asleep. Calypso needs you to stand up so she can take pictures of them."
"Creepy but ok," Hazel said with a laugh and stood up so Calypso could take her camera out of her pocket and took pictures of the sleeping couples who were cuddled together on either end of the couch.
"Percy drools," Frank pointed out. The both laughed a little.
"We should probably let them sleep," Hazel said. "I'm going to head to my dorm. Goodnight."
"Goodnight."
Hazel and Calypso took off to their dorm room yawning and talking about the movie and what kind of movies they liked. It was no surprise that Calypso liked musical movies. And Hazel said she liked older films. It's a Wonderful Life, Roman Holiday, etc.
"You are an old soul," Calypso said. "We should watch an old musical together. Singing in the Rain maybe."
"Sounds awesome," Hazel said as they climbed into bed. Calypso turned off the light and they waited for Annabeth and Piper to come to bed.
