=Chapter 42, The Pride of Legends=
*Jacob to Arky*
*It's been a few days since the Cuteness Contest, and since then Kenna has been riding a wave of confidence that even I never knew she had.*
*You should have been there Arky, the contest was wonderful, and Kenna was amazing, she even made the others jealous at how well she did for a first timer! Thanks to her we got the sixth badge needed for the Pokemon League. Karen says that as soon as she can enter into either the Coolness or Toughness Contests, she will try and earn her own badge.*
*Speaking of badges, Jessy called us using her PokeTech, saying that she's already reached Lilycove City. According to her, Snagem has been spotted in Lilycove, so she and her team will try and find out whatever information they can before they move on to Mossdeep City to try and earn their next badge. While we wait for Karen to finally earn her sixth badge, we're staying at a hotel here in rooms that Segan rented out for us. It's nice having someone else pay all the bills for a change, as well as having a place to put my bag so I don't end up having to carry it all the time.*
*Since I've won my sixth badge, its time I finally spoke to Suicune and find out what she wanted from me when I earned it.*
*Though I have a feeling, I know what she wants. It's just something my guts are telling me.*
(Jacob's PoV)
"Alright I'll catch you two later!" Jacob told Segan and Karen as they headed off to the Fortree Gym to watch the Cleverness Contest going on.
"Take care Jacob, and watch yourself!" Segan said with a smile as Glace waved him and Sara goodbye.
"Tell us if you find anything cool!" Karen shouted eagerly.
"All I'm going to do is train with my team a little Karen." He said with a chuckle while Sara followed behind him. "Have fun at the contest!"
With that they left their friends and headed off toward the nearby forest which bordered so closely to the city, that it was almost impossible to tell Fortree City from the trees around it.
(So what do you think Suicune wants with us Jacob?) Sara asked him as she skipped alongside him, feeling very cheerful ever since they won their sixth badge.
"I think she wants to battle with us Sara, but in all honesty I have no clue." He said as they passed by one of the tree houses of Fortree.
(Battle you, but why?) She asked.
"I don't know…" He replied.
They continued to walk for a good twenty minutes before they finally left Fortree behind and Sara confirmed that they were far away from the minds of any humans.
"Alright, let's see if Suicune is out there." He said, before taking a deep breath and calling out as loudly as he could. "SUICUUUNE, ARE YOU OUT THERE?"
With that, they waited, patiently wondering what it was Suicune wanted with them. A minute later they heard the sound of feet running, and saw Suicune slow trotting toward him, her cerulean hexagon crest glimmering brightly in the few rays of sunlight that pierced the forest canopy and her two white streamer tails flowed to her front, with her mane flowing just like the aurora borealis.
When she was close enough he felt her mind touching his own to speak with him, and both he and Sara let the contact through. (Greetings Jacob Beryl, have you achieved that which I asked of you?) She asked him politely.
With a smirk, he took his hat off and turned it so that all six of his badges glistened in the light. "Just as you asked Suicune." He said. "Six badges, painstakingly earned with the help of my team. So what was it you wanted of me now that I have them?"
Suicune smiled as she lowered herself to the ground. (Climb on Jacob, you will soon find out.) She declared.
Seeing no other choice, both he and Sara climbed onto Suicune's back, and waited as she began trotting off, taking them further away from Fortree City. (She is definitely up to something.) Sara whispered to him privately. (Why else would she be taking us somewhere private?)
*Yea I agree.* He thought to Sara as she continued to trot. *You think she wants to battle us?*
(I think she does… it's the only solution I can think of.)
They continued to travel for several minutes, passing by very isolated areas in the forest, clearly untouched by Humans. Then just as he and Sara started to get bored, Suicune began to slow down when they neared a clearing.
The clearing was quite large, with a space of about sixty feet in any direction from its center, and with a small stream running through it. There were also a few moss covered rocks littering the ground every few feet, as well as the occasional dead stump mixed in with the terrain here and there. All in all, it looked like a nice spot for a picnic.
(We are here.) She declared, lowering herself again so that Jacob and Sara could get off.
"Alright… now that we're here, same question, why are we here?" He asked as he helped Sara down.
(Many months ago, you rescued me from humans who hunted me, who valued me for my rarity and without care for my health and safety.) She said as she turned to face him, great respect and trust evident in her azure eyes. (You had the chance of a lifetime, I was weak and helpless, defenseless before even your weak and inexperienced team. For months before I met you, I had been hunted endlessly, to the point where I could not go a day without looking for those who would harm me, even finding something to eat became impossible! You only had to reach out, and I would have been yours to capture, without any resistance.) She leaned forward and nuzzled his cheek in gratitude, and then nuzzled Sara's cheek, causing her to giggle. (But you did not do that… you all fed me… protected me… and gave me the strength to run free. For that, I am forever in your debt, you could have easily captured me and freed me at a later time, but you preserved my freedom, and you have no idea how much that alone means to me.)
"It's alright… I mean… anyone would have helped you if they knew what you'd been through." He said, blushing in embarrassment as Suicune praised him.
(But they did not, 'you' did, and that is why I followed you for so many months. That is why I still follow you, and also why I have asked you to gather six of your 'Badges', because that means you are a truly skilled trainer now.) She stared at him intently now, no longer smiling but with a determined look. (That is also why I have brought you here, because I want to know how strong you 'really' are, as well as those who battle alongside you. Here and now… in the privacy of this clearing, I challenge you to battle. As my mother's mother once did, when she challenged her trainer after they searched endlessly for her.)
"A battle huh?" He said, getting serious as he knew that she was serious. "So is there any particular reason why you want to challenge me?"
At that Suicune smirked, backing away and running over to one of the nearby moss covered rocks. As she reached it, she bent over and picked up something that he couldn't see behind it, and then ran back over to him. In her mouth was a Pokeball, one of the Pokeballs that he had purchased back in Petalburg City when he was there the first time.
"Is that…" He began to say as she dropped it into his hand.
(Yes… I stole this from your bag while you slept the night I left you.) She said with a frown. (I knew it was yours, but I wanted to keep something of yours to remember you, should we never have seen each other again. So I found that other ball, and guessed perhaps it was just like yours, and gave you it in repayment. You don't hate me for doing that… do you?)
(No… we just wondered what happened to that Pokeball.) Sara said politely.
"But, why did you keep it all this time?" Jacob asked, eyeing the Pokeball now. "It's just an ordinary Pokeball, nothing special… unless…"
(Unless, I wanted you to try and capture me with it.) She finished for him with a nod. (Yes… that is precisely why I kept it… because I want you to try and capture me in 'that' ball. I have witnessed your acts of heroism throughout this region, I have watched your many battles from the side, and have seen you become stronger with each passing day. I want to test that strength for myself… to see if you are worthy of me and my powers. Like my fellow Legendaries, Raikou and Entei, I will accept nothing less than the best in my eyes.)
"Alright… if you want me to prove my worth, so be it!" Jacob said, replacing his hat on his head and reaching for his team's Pokeballs. "So how will we do this, one on one? My strongest against you?"
Suicune nodded as she began to back away to give him and whoever he picked plenty of space. (Yes, it will be me against your strongest team member Jacob, choose wisely, for I have watched you battle many times over the last few months, and there is very little you can do that will surprise me!) She declared.
Jacob nodded and looked down at Sara, who nodded and put up a special psychic barrier around their minds so they could talk privately. *Alright Sara, who do you think should face Suicune?* He asked her. *I was thinking perhaps you or Harold, or maybe even Coral.*
(Coral is on even terms with her in type, but she's too slow to take on Suicune's speed.) She said, using all of his knowledge about their friends to plan. (I am fast but I don't have the same power that the others do, what about Latias? She's a legendary, and she's both part Psychic and Dragon, that means she's got a lot of power to her name.)
*Not enough experience, she hasn't been in many battles yet, so we can't pick her.* He said. *Roran and Ivan are very well experienced, but they don't have the endurance to take Suicune's powerful Hydro Pump attacks for long. Kenna is a definite no, she hates fighting, not to mention she's a fire type… that leaves only Harold.*
(He is the strongest of all of us, it's only appropriate!) Sara agreed, watching as he took Harold's Pokeball from his belt. (He's one of our fastest, he has the type advantage, and he's the strongest out of everyone, both in power and experience! He's also just like you Jacob, so if anyone should fight Suicune, it is him!)
He nodded and looked over at Suicune, who was bracing herself for battle, even as he prepared to release his starter. "Alright then Suicune, if it's a challenge you want it's a challenge you'll get!" He shouted. "Harold, you're up pal!"
He released his starter in a blaze of light, and upon being released Harold the Grovyle pounced forward and brandished his claws and the sharp leaves on his elbows. "Grovyle!" He yelled defiantly, before glancing at Jacob and looking for instructions.
"Harold buddy, we're facing off against Suicune today, you remember her right?" He asked to which he nodded. "Well, she's challenging us to a battle, to see if I'm a worthy and strong enough trainer to capture her. So Harold, think you're up to the challenge of facing a legendary Pokemon?"
"Grovyle!" He said, giving him his trademark thumbs up with his claws.
"Kirlia Kirl!" Sara yelled in her normal speech, before translating what she said for Jacob. (Show her what we're made of!)
Suicune watched as Jacob chose his Pokemon with a smirk, as well as a glint in her eyes, as if she were eager to face the challenge.
(Harold's PoV)
Harold readied himself for battle by taking a defensive stance, unsure as to what this legendary could do, but knowing that she was powerful.
(So we meet again, grass starter.) Suicune said as she took a step forward. (The last time we spoke to one another, I was helpless, and you were just a small little Treecko. Now one year later, you have become your trainer's greatest ally and strongest friend… I hope you don't disappoint my expectations. I don't want to know that I have spent all of this time following you and your trainer for nothing.)
Harold only smirked back as he waited for Jacob to give instructions. "I wouldn't worry about that, the only one who would be more ashamed of their opponent is us." He said smugly back to her. "I hope 'you' live up to your reputation, as a legendary. I wouldn't want to know Jacob and I went through all of our training for an easy opponent."
With that remark, the battle began, and Harold had only a split second to regret making that statement about her possibly being weak, before she was rushing at him with a speed that surpassed his expectations.
(Jacob's PoV)
*Whoa, she's fast!* Jacob said as Harold jumped just in time to avoid her headlong attack. "Harold, use Leaf Blade!"
"Gro!" Harold said as he landed, and instantly turned to charge Suicune as she turned around to meet his attack.
"Aroooawr!" Suicune shouted as she let loose with an Aurora Beam.
Harold saw it coming a split second faster though, and nimbly jumped over the beam to resume his attack on Suicune with his bladed arms. He jumped straight at her and swiped at her side, but she merely jumped back and let loose with yet another Aurora Beam, this time hitting Harold square in the chest.
"Grooo..." Harold said as he clutched his sides, shivering greatly as the cold effects of the attack took their toll.
"Harold!" Jacob shouted.
(He's freezing Jacob, we have to do something!) Sara said to him, just as Suicune took aim at Harold again.
"Right… Harold, defensive Agility now!" He said.
"Gro!" Harold said, getting low and beginning his strategy.
Suicune let loose with her Aurora Beam but missed as Harold became a green blur. She watched carefully as Harold began running around her in a complete circle, trying to keep track of where he was going and when he would attack, but this was what Jacob wanted her to do.
During one of their training sessions, Jacob noticed that Harold had a lot of trouble with ice type moves. It was unavoidable because of his type, but the real problem he suffered was that sudden chill his body got, if he didn't warm up quickly he would become sluggish and his speed would fall as a result. So they began going through this 'defensive agility' routine, in which he used the speed he gained from the move to actually speed up the rate his body gained heat through friction and activity.
That planning was starting to pay off, as not only did the agility prevent Suicune from attacking, unless she wanted to risk exposing herself to attack from behind, it also helped warm up Harold's body and recover from the freezing Aurora Beam. However Suicune was quickly growing tired of waiting for an attack that looked like it wasn't coming, and she was starting to follow Harold the longer they continued to use Agility.
"Jump now!" He yelled as he saw Suicune's eye twitch for just a split second.
Instantly Harold responded and jumped high over Suicune, just as she let loose with yet another Aurora Beam, aimed right where Harold was going to be had he not jumped when Jacob said to. Harold landed next to him and looked confidently at Suicune, even as she smirked at the pair of them.
*Gotta give her credit Sara, she's certainly living up to her title as a Legendary Pokemon.* He thought to Sara. *It didn't take her long to read Harold's movement and predict where he was going to be so she could attack him.*
(She's exactly what we'd expect from a legendary from Johto.) Sara replied, her excitement at watching the battle exciting Jacob even further. (She's not pulling anything against us, she really wants to see what we're capable of!) She glanced up at him with a smile, one he returned as he looked down at her. (Are you going to pull out that new 'technique' we learned yesterday?)
*Yea, let's do it!* He thought excitedly. "Alright Harold, let's pull out our secret weapon!" He shouted.
Harold glanced back at him and nodded in understanding, before running forward with his leaf bladed arms at the ready.
Suicune, upon hearing the words 'secret weapon', leapt back to avoid whatever attack Harold was going to toss her way, but this didn't matter as Harold began gathering his energy while also using the chance to slice up one of the stumps and grabbing the bit of log he sliced off. Seeing this, she opened her mouth to release yet another Aurora Beam.
"Now Harold, use Substitute!" Jacob yelled.
"Grovyle!" He screamed, just as his hand glowed for a moment, then he threw the log forward and leapt to the side.
Suicune completely ignored Harold's movement as she used the attack and aimed directly at the bit of stump, hitting it and freezing the log with her attack. As the log fell to the ground, no longer glowing without Harold's contact, she looked around quickly to try and find him, but Harold was already moving in from the side.
Yesterday, during their adventures and exploring Fortree City, Jacob encountered a trainer who could teach his Pokemon the move Substitute. He learned that any of his Pokemon could learn Substitute, and they decided that Harold could make real use of it.
The way the move worked, was by Harold channeling a bit of his own life energy and generating a complete copy of himself by using whatever object he was holding when he used the move. In this case, it was a piece of a stump. Everyone would see the real Harold when he used the move, so long as those people had trained their eyes to see past the fake. Yet Suicune, having never seen Harold using the move, was completely fooled by it.
"Now Harold, while she's distracted, use Mega Drain!" Jacob yelled.
"Grovyle!" He yelled back, leaping onto Suicune's back while she was distracted by the substitute.
Noticing where he was now, she tried to shake him off, but Harold dug his claws into her fur and his tail began to glow, indicating that he was absorbing her body's vital nutrients into his own. "Aroour, Aroour!" Suicune kept yipping every time she tried to shake him off, but her body was beginning to slow down.
Just as she was beginning to show signs of weakness, she gave an almighty kick with her back legs and finally dislodged Harold from her back, but not before he had stolen enough of her energy to replenish what the Substitute had taken. She glared at Harold as she took a leap back, clearly not liking how she had been caught off guard. "So, nothing we do will surprise you huh?" Jacob said with a smirk to her.
She only smirked back, before opening her mouth and screaming loudly. At her scream the wind suddenly began to pick up, pushing against Harold and Jacob. *What the…* He thought.
(I've never seen this move before!) Sara yelled as she tried to stay where she was, but the way the wind was pushing against her made it difficult with her small form.
They recovered in time to watch Suicune rush forward, almost twice as fast as she was before, becoming a blue blur that surpassed Harold's speed. Harold saw her but couldn't jump in time to avoid being hit with an Aurora Beam at point blank range. He was blown back by the beam and landed in a crumpled heap, shivering with cold as he tried to get back up.
"Gro…" Harold moaned as he clutched himself with both claws while trying to stand.
"Quickly Harold, defensive Agility!" He said.
Harold nodded and bent low before breaking into a sprint, becoming a green blur as he raced to get warm and pick up his speed again. Suicune watched Harold as he ran around her in a circle, and this time she was able to keep up with him far more precisely than she was able to before. Within seconds of him going into his defensive agility, she let loose with her Hydro Pump attack, and its ferocity and strength was not wasted as it struck him dead on before he could avoid it.
(This isn't looking good!) Sara said nervously as Harold got back up, leaf blades ready for battle again despite the pummeling he was taking from Suicune's attacks. (We have to do something Jacob, Harold can't take much more!)
*I know, but Harold can barely out speed Suicune or avoid her attacks now!* He thought as Harold and Suicune paced around each other, waiting for one of them to make a move.
As he watched, he noticed that no matter where Suicune walked, the wind was constantly pushing her toward Harold. Even now with them pacing around each other in a circle, the wind continued to push behind Suicune, ignoring all logic as it stayed on her side. It was as if it obeyed her and only her.
(If she can make the wind aid her, how do we stop it?) Sara asked quickly.
*We can't… we've no choice but to go on the attack, as long as Suicune has that wind we'll never outrun her.* He thought. "Harold, substitute!"
Harold nodded again and broke into another run, using his leaf blades to slice another stump and grabbing it in his claws. As Suicune raced to keep up with him, his claw glowed again and he let go of the substitute, veering away as he tossed it forward to take Suicune's Aurora Beam again.
"Now Harold, Leaf Blade!" He said, hoping that Harold's strongest attack would do what he needed.
Harold nodded and turned to rush at Suicune, brandishing his bladed arms just as she realized that she had been fooled yet again. Before she could react, he came up to her side, and sliced upward with all the force he could muster with both his leaf bladed arms.
She was sent skyward, only to land heavily in a heap on her side. Harold panted as he recovered from the force of his attack.
*Please… let this work…* He thought hopefully.
(Harold's PoV)
Harold was breathing heavily as he watched Suicune's crumpled body start to get back up. He didn't know why but he felt far more alive than he ever did before in his life. It was as if the Aurora Beams had no effect on him, he felt so full of energy that it was like he could explode with it at any moment!
Yet as Suicune rose to her full height and turned to face him, growling fiercely as she glared at him, he knew that the legendary was not to be underestimated. She was still powerful, and she did not come this far in the fight to lose it to a single attack.
(Not bad grass starter… but after all of those months being hunted before I met you… I have far more strength than you realize.) She said calmly, but still breathing heavily. (It will take more than a single attack from you to defeat me…)
Harold growled as he stomped forward with the leaf blades on his arms ready. "Well then let's see how many it takes!" He cried out as a rush of energy seemed to flow through him.
He was so focused on his opponent, the prospect of defeating this legendary that nobody else could defeat for months on end so great in his mind, that he failed to notice his own body starting to glow. Though he noticed it finally when his own claws began to blind his vision, and looked down to see himself glowing brightly, and felt that huge rush of energy pour through his body.
(Jacob's PoV)
Jacob watched as Harold's body glowed brilliantly, blinding him temporarily before his eyes readjusted to see what was happening. He watched as his Grovyle began to grow taller, the leaf blades on his arms becoming longer and moving from his wrists and closer to his elbows. His tail also grew out, both leafs coalescing into a single tail which grew exponentially. As the glowing stopped, he saw that his starter had achieved his final evolution for his species' line.
"Whoa…" He said, looking at Harold as he now stood over five feet tall.
Harold looked down at his new body, from the sharper claws that were his hands, to the three toed feet that once were his talons, to the leaf blades that looked more like spikes on his arms and finally to his massive palm tree like tail. His face had become more angular, and on his back were six yellow orbs that he didn't know.
(Wow… what does your Pokedex have to say about Harold's new form?) Sara asked in amazement as Jacob pulled out his dex to answer that very question.
[Sceptile, the Forest Pokemon. Sceptile is the evolved form of Grovyle. Sceptile has seeds growing on its back. They are said to be bursting with nutrients that revitalize trees. This Pokémon raises the trees in a forest with loving care. Despite this, it is also known that the leaves that grow on its arms can slice down thick trees. It is without peer in jungle combat, and has been known to use its superior agility to strike opponents from above or behind.]
"Wow… so that's what your final evolution is Harold!" Jacob said to his starter, even as he examined his own body himself, swinging his tail to and fro while examining his extremely sharp claws.
(Impressive, but don't forget that we are still in the middle of a battle!) Suicune said, snapping everyone's attention back to her. (Now that you are stronger, I expect even more from you two!)
"Sceptile!" Harold shouted, using one foot to stomp forward and brandish his claws and bladed leaves.
"Well Suicune, you want our best, you got our best then!" Jacob shouted, not needing Sara to know what his starter meant with his yell. "Harold, let's test out your new form and see just how fast you can run! Agility now!"
Harold nodded and instantly became a blur as he leapt toward Suicune, before she could even notice him moving. She managed to jump away from him and let loose with another Aurora Beam, but Harold moved so much faster that he leapt from one of the moss covered rocks and soared high above Suicune to land directly behind her.
"Leaf Blade!" Jacob ordered.
Harold nodded and sliced behind him with his bladed arm, and managed to deliver a powerful blow before Suicune could dodge it. She backed away and tried to get off another Aurora Beam, but once again Harold's superior speed was more than she could anticipate. She once again tried to use the wind that was still on her side to out speed and get away from Harold, but his speed was too much for even the wind to outpace. As she fled to try and get some distance he closed the gap and leaped high above her to land directly in front of her.
Then he grinned as he brandished his two leaf bladed arms and struck Suicune twice in a row, knocking her back and delivering a devastating hit to her side.
"I've never seen Harold use that move before!" Jacob said as he watched his starter absolutely decimate the legendary. "Was that a Leaf Blade?"
In response to his question, and having forgotten to put his Pokedex away, it responded to his query.
[Dual Chop, a move classified as a Dragon Type attack, Dual Chop allows the attacker to strike heavily at his target to deliver powerful blows and deal great damage twice in a row. Upon evolving, all Sceptile instinctively know how to perform this move.]
(Whoa… Harold is just wiping the floor with Suicune!) Sara said in awe as Harold and Suicune continued to battle, Harold pushing Suicune closer and closer to where Jacob was. (She's barely standing her ground against him, he's literally running circles around her! I never imagined he could move so fast!)
"You're telling me Sara… he's not even giving her a chance to get a move in." Jacob said to her.
Then as Suicune let loose with a final Aurora Beam, desperately trying to hit Harold, he simply ran toward her, taking the attack head on, and struck her once more with his Dual Chop.
Suicune was knocked back and collapsed to the ground, shaking heavily as she tried to get back up, but it was clear she had met her match in the evolved Harold. "Scept, Sceptile!" Harold yelled at Jacob, to which Sara translated, "She's weak, capture her now!"
"Right!" Jacob said, taking the Pokeball that Suicune had requested he attempt to capture her in and aiming. "Alright… Pokeball go!"
He threw the ball and watched as it smacked Suicune in the side of her mane, open up, and pull her inside in a beam of red light, before closing and falling to the ground. The ball shook once, then twice, with all of them watching it intently and with baited breaths.
Then the ball shook a third time, and each of them paused to watch and see if it worked, before the ball stopped shaking and gave a loud ping, indicating that the capture was successful.
"We did it… we actually did it!" Jacob yelled excitedly. "We caught Suicune!"
"Kirlia!" Sara shouted as she began dancing beside him.
"Sceptile!" Harold yelled enthusiastically, running for Jacob and pulling him into a hug, actually lifting him up with how strong he was.
"Too tight… too tight Harold!" Jacob groaned at his starter's show of affection and excitement.
Realizing he was crushing Jacob, Harold looked apologetic as he let him down and backed off a little. "Sceptile?" He asked him. "Are you hurt?"
"No I'm fine… but man Harold… I never knew you could move so fast!" He said, recovering from his starter's hug. "You were so fast it was almost impossible to keep up with you."
(Yea, I never knew you could move that fast!) Sara said to him as Jacob and Harold walked over to Suicune's Pokeball. (You really gave Suicune a run for her Pokedollars!)
Harold merely smirked as he swelled up with pride. "Sceptile Sceptile Scept, Scept Scept tile Scept!" He said. "Let's see Viridian take me on now, I bet he'll head for the hills the next time we face him!"
"Well before we go challenging criminals, what say we introduce the team to our new friend and team member?" Jacob said as he began to call out his entire team.
In a series of flashes, all of his team were released, Coral snaking over to Jacob to nuzzle his side affectionately while Kenna neighed and jumped at the sight of him. Ivan and Roran bowed respectfully while Latias smiled and waved eagerly to him as well. After they greeted Jacob, Coral's greeting being a little longer than usual, they all saw Harold and were instantly told the story of his evolution and the epic battle he had went through to take on Suicune. While they talked Jacob began digging out potions and food to feed his team as well as heal Suicune of her injuries.
"Alright guys, now that story time is over, say hello to our newest team member!" Jacob shouted, taking Suicune's ball and tossing it lightly into the air. "Suicune, come on out!"
In a flash of light, Suicune appeared from her Pokeball, battered and bruised and gasping for breath, but still smiling proudly as she stared at Jacob. (I see… so you have captured me…) She said with all the dignity she had. (Very well than, Master Jacob… I am at your command now, from this moment forth until such a time that you decide you no longer require my powers.)
(Hey, nice to meet ya!) Latias said eagerly, floating forward to talk to Suicune face to face. (Another legendary on the team? Now nothing can stop us from beating that creep!)
At Latias' sudden enthusiasm and greeting, Suicune sneered slightly, before acknowledging her presence with a curt nod. (As I was saying… yes… Jacob, is there anything you wish of me?)
"Uh… no not really." He said, feeling the slight tension in the air as Suicune glared at Latias. "Though how about I treat your wounds before I start preparing lunch for you guys?"
(Yea, we can celebrate Suicune's joining the team with a big feast!) Latias said eagerly, clearly not noticing Suicune's bitterness as she did a flip in excitement.
While the team began talking to Harold, Latias included, Jacob and Sara separated themselves from the group to treat Suicune's injuries. As he worked, he noticed her constantly glaring at Latias with disdain, as if she didn't like the enthusiastic or overly friendly legendary.
"Is there something wrong Suicune?" He asked her nervously. "You've been glaring at Latias the entire time since you saw her."
Suicune waited for a few seconds before looking at him with an apologetic looks. (Forgive me Master… it is just… a thing we legendaries hold in high regard above all others.) She said.
(A thing?) Sara asked politely. (What kind of thing?)
Suicune regarded Sara's question with a chuckle before once again looking apologetic. (We legendaries are prideful creatures, we are born into the world knowing that we are powerful and special, unique and important to the world around us.) She said. (We do not always choose a trainer for our own, for we believe that we are powerful on our own and require no assistance from others. Yet should we find one that is worthy of our power, we often see that individual as being the only one worthy of our power.) She glanced at Latias again and seedm to again regard her with disdain. (It is not your fault… the fault is mine, but I find the idea of fighting at your side with another legendary to be… repulsive. My power is more than enough to bring you greatness, you don't need another legendary's power to aid you.)
"I don't get it… why do legendaries not like working together?" He asked, and because he still had neglected to shut off his Pokedex, it responded inside of his jean's pocket.
[When captured, a Legendary Class Pokemon does not view itself as being 'caught', instead it views itself as merely 'choosing a Trainer' for itself, in order to become stronger.] It stated. [It is theorized that Legendary Class Pokemon do not like the idea of 'sharing' Pokemon Trainers with other Legendary Class Pokemon. Unless the Trainer is truly worthy in their eyes, as to be capable of forcing the legendary to submit entirely to their will, most Legendary Class Pokemon will regard all other legendaries as threats, rather than friends or allies. While it has not been confirmed one hundred percent, with exception to a few, most of these legendaries will attempt to dissuade their trainer from capturing or making use of other legendary Pokemon, so long as they are with that trainer. This has often been rumored to occur with legendary Pokemon from different regions, for example Articuno from Kanto, will not approve of its trainer capturing Ho Oh from Johto.]
He sighed as he pulled the Pokedex out and shut it off, before glancing at Suicune again. "So I'm guessing it's just your legendary pride talking huh?"
(Yes.) She said with a blush. (However, if you wish to have her join you in battle alongside me, I will not stop you.)
"Well… unfortunately I can't have you both on my team legally unless I send someone else on the team to Professor Nomel or someone else." Jacob said, realizing that he was once more over the Six Pokemon Limit. "Sara doesn't count since she's wild technically, but I don't want to send anyone else away simply because I have you on my side as well."
It was as Jacob was trying to find a solution that Sara came up with one through her psychic link to him. (Let her roam free like before!) She said. (She can follow us and help us out like she did before, only now she'll just be carrying her Pokeball as 'your' Pokemon!)
"Yea… that's actually a good idea!" Jacob said, scratching Sara's hair and making her giggle and curtsy. "What do you think Suicune, are you willing to keep following me and my team around like before?"
Suicune nodded with a smile at his question. (If that is what you wish… so be it!) She said, before Latias flew over and started asking Jacob when lunch would be.
Then she began to regard the red legendary with disdain again, to which Jacob and Sara laughed and chuckled without Latias having any clue about what was so funny.
