Jack didn't let the Doctor out of his sight for the remainder of that day or the next for any longer than he had to. He kept the anti-dote as well as the syringe in his pocket fearing that he would have to use them even as the Doctor remained breathing steadily next to him. The decision to move to his office was placed on hold and at night he laid in bed next to the Doctor just watching the gentle rise and fall of his chest. The fear that he could lose the Doctor to suicide overruled his anger temporarily allowing him to see past the decision the Doctor made. He still hated the fact that the Doctor tried to put him into the hands of the Master but he finally could accept that the Doctor had felt he had no other choice. That he had made the difficult decision to make Jack think that he had betrayed him in order to kill the man who threatened those he cared for. It was during those long hours laying next to the Doctor that he finally was able to forgive him but he knew that it would take him longer to forget what happened.
Their relationship couldn't be repaired until they were able to repair their friendship, though. So Jack made the difficult decision to move to sleep on the couch for the next few weeks as they stopped having sex completely. Despite his decision, they still spent more time together than ever before, staying up late talking about whatever came to mind as they were reluctant to separate for the night. Eventually, the Doctor would creep up the stairs to sleep but come morning Jack often found him asleep in one of the chairs or on the floor in front of the couch as he clung to the little comfort that he could take from Jack. Not that Jack minded. Having the Time Lord close kept his own night terrors at bay and he found that he slept better when he could listen to the gentle breathing of the Doctor while he slept.
It was with a lot of reluctance that Jack finally removed the deadlock chains at the end of a month's time. The Doctor had put back on weight and was no longer withdrawing from the drugs that he sought for comfort leaving Jack with no other excuses to leave the TARDIS locked. The first few trips they took together with Jack picking the locations as he feared ending up in chains again. The Doctor didn't argue as they wandered sandy beaches or stood staring at a building located on stilts in a bay that Jack had once called home. He had vowed he would never return to the peninsula after he left but after two thousand years, he found himself just wanting to go home for a few minutes and remember. Not the pain that had happened that faithful day but the happiness that he shared with his family all those years before.
"That building was my home when I was your age," Jack told Emily as he stood holding her in his arms.
"Can we go inside?" Emily wondered.
"I don't think so. It has been years since someone lived there but maybe one day soon I will take you to see your grandmother," Jack informed her. Emily leaned back to look at him.
"Grandma Francine?" Emily wondered and Jack laughed.
"No, not Grandma Francine. My mother. She left here shortly after I joined the Time Agency and it has been years since I have been back to visit her but I think it is time we changed that," Jack explained. The Doctor stepped forward and Jack felt him take his hand. He gripped the Doctor's hand back squeezing it tightly within his own. He had avoided his mother for years, even before he was stuck on Earth because he was ashamed of the man that he had become. He had carried the anger and sorrow with him over that faithful day for many years making many mistakes. Now, not only did he have the answers she needed about what happened to Grey, but he also had a family that he was proud of. They had taken the long way around to get where they were comfortable in their relationship but the Doctor no longer had to rely on the drugs anymore instead he turned to Jack's arms when he needed someone to carry the weight of his decisions for a while.
"Do you want to go now?" the Doctor questioned. Jack shook his head no.
"Right now, I want to go back to the TARDIS eat supper, then rest with my family," Jack told the Doctor. The Doctor took Emily from Jack's arms letting her run ahead of them as they walked hand in hand back to the TARDIS. Leaning closer to the Doctor he lowered his voice as he spoke again. "Then maybe after she has gone to bed we can work on giving her a sibling."
"Our DNA isn't compatible, Jack," the Doctor sighed.
"Maybe not now but it is possible that in a future regeneration that you will be able to carry my offspring, so we should have as much practice as possible between now and then at producing one," Jack told him. The Doctor laughed as he released Jack's hand. Turning, he took Jack in his arms as he caught Jack's lips briefly against his own.
"Buy me a coffee," the Doctor whispered.
"Such hard work," Jack responded.
"But worth it." Their lips joined again as they became lost in another body, another time when Jack thought that one dance was all he would get. But now he had the Time Lord in his arms and he planned on holding on to him as long as possible.
"Daddy, Papa, come on," Emily called out from ahead of them. The moment faded as they turned towards their daughter, their hands joining once more as they walked towards their next adventure together.
