It is said that the eyes are the windows to the soul, and magic has always been all about the soul...
Windows to Magic
"He's here Lily! Take Harry and run! I'll hold him off!"
Knowing he had no wand and no way to defend himself, James Potter hoped he could at least buy some time for Lily to run out of the reach of the wards and apparate away.
"James Potter," hissed the hooded man as he blasted the front door from its hinges. "A shame to spill such pure blood."
"Voldemort. You won't get past me," responded James, balling up his fists.
"Not even a wand? Such a disgrace, you relied far too heavily on those 'friends' of yours." Slinking forward, he kept his wand at the ready.
"I'll make you pay for taking the secret from Peter!" Running at him, he threw a punch, only to get blasted back and petrified.
Laughing at his silly muggle fighting, he silenced him before hitting him with a quick, "Crucio!" He left the spell on for a minute before he decided to take pity on James.
"Before you die, let me tell you something." Pulling back his hood, his blood-red eyes gleamed into James' doe brown eyes. "I didn't have to 'take' anything. He willingly sold you out! Avada Kedavra!"
As the green light overtook James' body, Lily Potter choked back a sob and hurried to finish her last stand's preparations. She had to be fast, lest Voldemort kill her and gained access to her brand of magic.
"Harry, baby, I want you to know that I love you," she said, tears streaming down her face, as her eyes slowly dimmed from her regular emerald stare to a slate gray one.
Baby Harry gurgled at her, as his gray eyes slowly changed to the same shade of emerald green Lily Potter was known for.
As she went to ruffle his hair one last time, the door hiding her from the Dark Lord exploded open, shrapnel flying everywhere. "We meet at last, Lily Potter."
Gray eyes meet red eyes, both unwilling to break the staring contest. "Strange, where your eyes not colored after the spell I was looking for?" He spoke, sparing a glance at the toddler.
"Go to hell Voldemort! You're never getting your hands on my magic," she spat, standing in front of Harry. Covering her left arm, she hoped the seal she had made would be enough to fully translate her magic to her only son.
"Step aside. If you don't have it anymore, you're worthless. Besides, Severus did ask me to get him a small prize for his information." He spoke, seeing her betrayed face. "What a sad way for the Potter family to end, both members betrayed by a close friend."
"He... Severus... You... " Enough was enough, and Lily threw herself at Voldemort, hoping to at least get a decent hit before leaving for the afterlife. However, he was having none of it, and blasted her onto the floor.
"You dare refuse my offer? Then I guess this is the end for you." Pointing his wand at her neck, he intoned, "You will die by your own magic, Avada Kedavra!"
Time seemed to slow down, as the curse made its way to Lily's body. This was the end for her, but she refused to go alone. Raising her hand and the seal it had, the spell hit it dead on, killing her immediately and reverting the spell right back at him.
A thump was heard, and crying soon followed. As the spell was about to hit Voldemort, his magic lashed out at it, pushing it towards a new target, Harry. "How ironic, you die by the hands that tried to protect you! Now perish, for I will have no equal!"
As the curse and Voldemort's own magic hit Harry, the curse rebounded one last time. It hit him dead on, ripping the soul out and killing him. With Voldemort gone however, his magic attached itself to the only being left nearby, Harry. But its original lashout calmed, leaving only a small scar in the shape of a bolt on his head.
10 years later...
"Boy! Boy, get up!" Screeched the shrill voice of Petunia Dursley. Pounding on the cupboard door, she screamed, "If you don't get up soon, you'll get such a beating you'll wish you were never born!"
Slowly getting up, Harry Potter shook his head to get rid of the groggy feeling and started opening the door. That strange dream was once again what accompanied his last night's sleep.
Walking to the kitchen, he went directly to the stove and started preparing the basic eggs and toast for his relatives.
Vernon Dursley was perfectly normal, thank you very much, or at least was before his good-for-nothing nephew was thrown on his steps. "You better not burn my toast boy!"
"No, Uncle Vernon," Harry replied as usual, knowing full well that he would still find an imperfection on them. Flipping the eggs for the final time, he served them on a plate before putting them in front of his obese Uncle.
"Dad! Dad! Are we going to zoo today?" Screamed none other than Dudley 'Ickle Dudleykins' Dursley. The smaller land whale shoved Harry out the way before junping near his father. "Come on, its my birthday! I want to see the crocodiles!"
"Settle down son, worry not, we will be going to the zoo. Petunia dear, did you happen to make the... arrangements... with Mrs. Figg?" He said, not noticing his son take most of his toast and shove it into his mouth.
"She said she would be awfully busy and couldn't take care of him today." She spoke, as if even bringing up her abnormal nephew would hurt her.
Sighing, Vernon replied, "Then I guess he has to come along."
Breakfast was a somber affair at the Dursley's, usually with both males eating more than their recommended intake for the day, with Petunia making snide comments about the neighbors and their prize begonias.
Author's Note : Well, my first attempt at fan fiction. As said in the start, the focus of this story is on the windows to the soul, or the eyes. Now I did flesh out tbe Dursley's quite a bit, but they might play a larger role later. Basic rules apply to this fanfic, Lords and Ladies, but no slash yet. I want to see where I take this before I put a relationship. Who knows, maybe it'll be a 2 person relationship, maybe a 7 person one. Yeah this is getting quite long but I want to end it with a thank you to Honest Lunar Raven for the idea!
And to end this off, I'm fully open to suggestions and will try to update once or twice a week. College sucks.
