Chapter 5: Suspended
Another day of work. Another day of roses. Another day of...him. Drew. May still feels like he's just messing with her when he gives her roses out of the blue. She blushes every time he looks at her and especially when he hands her a beautiful red rose. Even though she's seen roses all her life, she still blushes when a boy gives her a rose. And the only boy that's always giving her roses, the only boy that's always on her mind, is none other than Drew, the cutest boy in the school.
Remember those three fangirls from the last chapter who said that they're going to get May suspended? They are currently going into the principal's office to tell him some terrifying news.
"Girls, what have you come to talk to me about?" Principal Samuel said.
"Yes. We have come to report a weapon on campus." Brianna said, sounding believable.
"A weapon?!" Principal Samuel said.
"Yes. We saw it with our own eyes. The 7th grader May had a knife in her backpack and we saw it for a quick second before she put it back inside." Michelle said.
"You three saw it?" Samuel asked.
"Yes." Brianna said.
"Very well then. I'll tell the security officers to go to May's class and check her backpack." Samuel said. "Thank you girls for coming to me with this information."
"Our pleasure." They answered at the same time. They walked out of the office and towards class.
"You put the knife in May's backpack, right?" Brianna whispered.
"Right. She'll be in for a shock when security officers take her away." Naomi said darkly.
"Good work girls." Brianna said.
Everyone is in class doing their work by themselves. The door opens and everyone looks up at who walked in. Two security officers.
"Hello. We're here for May." One security officer said.
"Me?" May asked.
"Yes. Go ahead May." The teacher said.
"Please bring all your belongings with you." A security officer said.
"Umm...okay…" May stood up and lifted her backpack up.
"May, what'd you do?" Dawn whispered.
"I don't know." May whispered back. May followed the security officers to the office.
Drew looked at Dawn and mouthed, "What happened?"
Dawn mouthed back, "She doesn't know."
"Umm...may I ask why I got called here?" May asked.
"You've been reported for having a weapon on school property." Samuel said.
"A weapon?!" May said, eyes wide. "I would never carry a weapon with me to school."
"We'll just see about that." Samuel said. "Just let them check your backpack, and if nothing is found, then you're free to go."
"Okay…" May said, feeling unsure. The violet rose jewel glowed. May put her backpack on a chair and a security officer opened it up and looked inside. He moved some notebooks around inside and pulled something out. A knife.
May's eyes widened at the sight of the knife in the security officer's hand. "I…" May didn't even know what to say.
"So...no weapon?" Samuel said.
"I swear I never put that in there." May said.
"A likely story…" Samuel said sarcastically. "Because of this knife found inside your backpack on school property, I have no choice but to suspend you from school for a week."
"Suspension?!" May asked, shocked.
"Yes. I will call your parents immediately to come and pick you up." Samuel said as he picked up the school phone, looked on his computer for May's mom's number, and then dialed it.
("I...can't believe I'm getting suspended…") May thought to herself. ("I'm always a well-behaved student…And I know that I never put a knife in my backpack.")
Principal Samuel had a quick talk with May's mom on the phone and he put the phone back down. "She's on her way."
"Okay…" May said, scared of how her mom will react to her being suspended.
Caroline came and entered the office. May saw her mom, gulped, and her violet rose jewel glowed an even darker purple. Samuel and Caroline had a quick conversation about when May could return to school, Caroline signed May out of school, May got her stuff, and they went home.
"I can't believe you brought a knife to school May." Caroline said, frustrated.
"But I didn't!" May defended herself.
"Then how do you explain the one that they found?"
"I don't know…" May said with a frown. "Mom, you know that I would never do something like that, don't you?"
Caroline hesitated for a moment before answering. "Of course I do May, but they found the knife in your backpack and there's no denying that."
May didn't say anything as she just stared down.
"Do you think there's anyone in the school who might be responsible for framing you?" Caroline asked.
"I don't even talk to most people, so I don't think so…" May answered.
It's now lunchtime and Drew decided to sit with Dawn at a table because May isn't there.
"Any word from June?" Drew asked.
"Huh? Oh yeah…May." Dawn said. "She called me before I entered the cafeteria. She said that she got suspended for a week."
"Suspended?!" Drew asked, surprised that innocent May would be suspended.
"Yes. Apparently she had a knife in her backpack." Dawn said.
Drew's eyes widened. "No...that can't be true…"
"But it is. Otherwise, she would be here." Dawn said.
"But it's January we're talking about here. She's not a bad student. She's always the best a student can ever be. She follows all the rules and stuff!" Drew said.
"I know...which is why it doesn't make any sense…"
Drew balled his hands into fists on his laps. "There's gotta be someone who put the knife in her backpack, because I know it wasn't her."
"I agree, but who would do something like that?" Dawn asked.
"Probably one of my fans." Drew said.
"What? Would they really frame May?" Dawn asked.
"If they saw me giving a rose to her...then yeah." Drew said. Drew then brought his elbows up to rest on the table and he buried his face in his hands. "This is all my fault…"
"No. It's not. May wouldn't blame you and neither do I. She loves the roses you give her." Dawn said.
Drew lifted his head out of his hands. "She does? I thought she still despised them."
Dawn shook her head. "She loves them, but she doesn't want to admit it."
Drew gave a faint smile. "Okay...I'm going to bring her back."
"You are?"
"Yes. First of all, the culprit must be in the same class as us when she got taken away."
"That's true...because her backpack was only off of her during class. She would've felt someone opening her backpack if it was before school."
"Exactly." Drew said. "Thankfully...classes aren't that big."
"Hi Mr. Drew! May we sit here?" Brianna said from the side of the table.
Drew and Dawn looked up at Brianna, Michelle, and Naomi. Drew narrowed his eyes at them. "You wouldn't happen to know of anyone who framed May...would you?" Drew asked.
"Umm...frame May?" Brianna asked nervously.
"Who's May again?" Michelle asked.
"We didn't even know that she got suspended." Naomi said. Brianna and Michelle looked at Naomi. "What did I do?" Naomi asked.
"I never told you three that she got suspended…" Drew said.
"Umm...you didn't?" Naomi asked nervously. Brianna and Michelle facepalmed.
"So tell us, what grudge do you have against May?" Dawn asked.
"And we want the truth…" Drew said darkly.
"Well...the truth is…" Brianna started. Drew glared at them and they got more nervous.
"Okay, okay. The truth is that you always give her roses and you called her beautiful the other day." Michelle said.
"So you were eavesdropping on us?!" Drew half-yelled.
"Yes…" Brianna admitted.
"And you're jealous of my friendship with May?!" Drew continued.
"Yes…" Michelle admitted.
"It's just...you seem to like her way more than your other fans…" Brianna said.
Drew and Dawn look at each other and have a silent conversation. They both nod and stand up. They start pulling the three Drew fans out of the cafeteria.
"The reason I seem to like May more than other fans is because she's not a fan." Drew finally answered Brianna.
"She's not?" Brianna asked.
"Nope." Drew answered.
"Where are two taking us?" Naomi asked.
"To the Principal's office, so you can explain that you framed May." Dawn said.
They enter the Principal's office.
"What can I help you all with?" Samuel asked.
"These three have something to say." Drew said as he gestured to Brianna, Michelle, and Naomi.
"Okay. What is it?" Samuel asked.
Brianna looked at Drew and he just glared at her. Brianna gulped and looked back at Samuel. "The truth is...we framed May and made her get suspended." She admitted.
"What do you mean?" Samuel asked.
"We're the ones who put the knife in her backpack when she wasn't looking." Michelle said.
"And we told you that she did it." Naomi continued.
"I am very disappointed in you three. Our students are usually always well-behaved. Why would you frame May?" Samuel asked.
"It's for a very dumb reason." Drew said. "They didn't want May to be around me all the time."
Samuel rolled his eyes. Yes, the Principal was well aware that Drew has a whole fan base. "That is a bad reason, but an understandable one."
"So...will you let May come back?" Drew asked, hopeful.
"Yes. I'll call May's household and we'll get her back over here." Samuel answered. "She was going to be back in a week, but you wanted her back right away, huh?"
Drew blushed very slightly and nodded.
"Okay then. You two can go now." Samuel said as he pointed to Drew and Dawn. Drew and Dawn walked out of the office. Brianna, Michelle, and Naomi ended up getting in trouble for framing May. Instead of being suspended, they will be in a program for a month at school called SDC (School Discipline Center).
