Chapter 8: Secret Admirer

May sighed. "First day of high school…"

It's the first day of high school and May is currently getting ready to leave. She hopes to see Dawn there. And she hopes to see Drew. Wait. Why does she hope to see Drew?

"Drew…" May said quietly to herself as she brushed her hair. "I wonder what high school will bring…"

"May!" Dawn exclaimed.

"Dawn!" May exclaimed.

They ran to each other and gave the other a bear hug.

"I missed you so much!" Dawn said.

"I missed you too!" May said. They released each other.

"So...what's been up with you and Drew?" Dawn asked.

"Me and Drew? Nothing! Nothing at all…" May answered.

"Nothing at all, huh?" Dawn said, smirking.

May blushed, her red rose jewel glowing. "Really Dawn...I haven't even seen him at all during the summer."

"Aww...that's too bad. He was probably on vacation, huh?" Dawn asked.

May shrugged her shoulders. "Probably."

"Well…" Dawn said as she looked behind May. "Maybe you should ask him."

"Huh?" May asked and she turned around to see what Dawn is looking at. More like who she's looking at.

They saw Drew walking towards them. May blushed again at the sight of Drew.

"Hi again." Drew said once he stopped in front of May and Dawn.

"Hi Drew." Dawn greeted.

"H-hi…" May stuttered.

Drew smirked. "Did you miss me June?"

May furrowed her eyebrows. "My name is May!"

Drew flicked his bangs. "And I'm Drew, the most handsome, charming Prince of the school."

May blushed red with anger and she balled her hands into fists. "More like the most arrogant, egotistical Jerk of the school! And besides, it's only the first day. Who knows if there's maybe a cuter boy here?"

Drew tensed a little because May said there might be a cuter boy than him here. He doesn't want to lose her to someone else. He smiled. "Glad to know you haven't changed." Drew said.

May looked at him with confusion. "Is that a compliment or an insult?"

"You tell me." Drew said as he held out a rose to May. May looked at it for a second before blushing and accepting it.

"Aww…" Dawn cooed. They both looked at Dawn. "Sorry for ruining the moment." She said. "Continue."

May and Drew looked back at each other. It was silent for a moment before-

"Aah! It's Drew!" A girl exclaimed.

May, Drew, and Dawn hear girls scream in the distance. They look to the direction of the voices. They see a crowd of girls running towards them.

"Drew!"

"I love you Drew!"

Drew sighed. "Looks like I gotta bounce." He said once he looked back at May. "I'll see you guys later!" He said as he ran away from the screaming fans.

May sighed. "He really is the prince of the school…"

"Yeah." Dawn agreed. "I think he has more fans here than in middle school."

After lunch with May at her locker…

May opens her locker and finds an envelope lying down on her books with a rose taped to it.

"Huh? What's this?" May said quietly to herself as she picked up the envelope. She opened it up and took out a note. It read…

Dear May,

This will be hard to say, but I've had feelings for you since I saw you in sixth grade. I was hoping that you can meet me at Bellossom Fields today at 5pm after school. I want to talk to you in person. Hope to see you there.

Love,

Your Secret Admirer

"Secret admirer?" May asked herself. She held up the rose and thought quietly to herself. "I only know one guy whose signature move is a rose, but…"

"Hi March." Drew's voice said from the other side of her locker door. May stepped away from her locker and closed it. She looked at Drew who was just leaning against the lockers.

"Hi Drew." May said.

"You're not mad that I called you by the wrong name?"

"Oh. Umm...not at this moment…" May answered.

"...what's wrong?" Drew asked.

May lifted up the envelope that she's holding and shows it to Drew. "Did you write me this letter?"

Drew looked at it for a brief moment and then he answered. "Do you really think I'd write you a letter when I'm always talking to you?"

"Yeah...I guess you're right." May lowered the letter and Drew noticed in May's other hand, she's holding the rose that came with the letter.

"Who's the rose from?" Drew asked.

"Huh? Oh." May lifted the rose and looked at it. "It came with the letter. Since your thing is roses, I thought you left this letter for me, but I guess I was wrong. Apparently, I have a secret admirer."

Drew tensed at May's words. "Secret admirer?"

"Yeah." May answered as she looked up at Drew.

"Hmm…" Drew hummed.

"What are you thinking about?" May asked.

Drew sighed. "It's nothing. Don't worry about it."

May cocked her head.

"Well…" May said. "I'm going to meet up with him today after school."

"Today?" Drew asked.

"Yeah. He wants to talk to me today." May answered. May smirked at Drew. "Why? Are you jealous?"

Drew blushed and looked away. "In your dreams April."

May shrugged her shoulders. "If you say so."

The time of the meeting…

May steps foot into Bellossom Fields, a beautiful garden with all kinds of flowers. Bellossom are frolicking about. Beautifly are flying everywhere. Several other grass Pokémon are smelling the flowers.

May walks to the middle of the giant field of flowers and sees someone standing there facing the other direction.

"Hello?" May said to that person.

The boy turns around and May sees him holding a bouquet of roses.

"Hi, my name is Brendan." He said as he held out the bouquet to May. "For you."

"Umm...thanks." May accepted the bouquet. "So...that letter I got was from you?"

Brendan nodded.

"If you've had feelings for me ever since 6th grade, then why didn't you tell me then?" May asked.

"Well you see...I may have been a bit jealous of that Drew…" Brendan answered. "Whenever I was wanting to tell you, Drew was always there."

"Ohh...that's understandable." May said. "He is one of my best friends…"

"Yeah, but it seemed like you two were more than that." Brendan said.

"Well...we're...nothing special…" May replied, blushing slightly.

"Well, that's good to know." Brendan said. "I actually wanted to ask you if you'd like to be my girlfriend?" He said as a question.

"Girlfriend? Umm…" May said. She then thought about what Dawn said during 8th grade.

"If I was surrounded by fanboys every day like he is surrounded by fangirls right now, I think I'd rather want to know a person before thinking about dating them." Dawn said. "I'm pretty sure you're the only girl that Drew really knows, and that's why he'd rather talk to you and not random fans.

"Know a person…" May mumbled to herself.

"Did you say something?" Brendan asked.

"Umm...it's just that…" May started. "I'm sorry Brendan, but my answer is no."

"Why say no?" Brendan asked.

"I mean...I barely know you and I'd want to get to know someone if I'm going to start dating them." May answered.

"I see…" Brendan said. May handed him back the bouquet.

"You should keep those." May said. "I'll be going now." May turned around and started walking off, but Brendan grabbed her wrist.

"Wait! Don't go." Brendan said.

May grabbed her wrist as well to keep her bracelet from coming off. "Brendan, there's nothing left for me to do here, so can you please let go of me?"

"I can't let you leave yet. My feelings for you have grown over the years and I'm not going to lose you to Drew." Brendan said, tightening his grip.

"Brendan, please let go. I already told you no." May said.

"But I love you May." Brendan said, trying to pull her towards him, but slipping off her bracelet instead.

May held her wrist in her hand. "Calm...calm…" May mumbled to herself.

"Please May, give me a chance." Brendan said.

May took a deep breath. "I told you that I want to first know you as a friend. We just met, Brendan."

"I still know that my feelings for you are true." Brendan said as he walked closer to May and grabbed the same wrist again.

May groaned a little when she got pulled by Brendan. They both felt a hand touch their hands. They saw Drew standing right there. He yanked Brendan's hand off of May's and Brendan stumbled backwards.

"She said no." Drew said as he held May's hand in his and addressed Brendan.

"Drew, who invited you here?" Brendan said angrily.

"Myself." He said as he flicked his bangs with his free hand.

"Well, you can leave now. I was busy talking to May." Brendan said.

"Talking to her?" Drew questioned. "It looked to me like you were about to rape her."

"I wouldn't even think of doing that to May. I was just confessing my feelings to her."

"Well, you can confess to her without grabbing her like you did." Drew said.

Brendan growled. "You shouldn't interfere with other people's relationships."

"I'm sorry. Did you say relationship?" Drew asked. "Last I checked, May was single."

"Ugh. I don't know what you see in him May." Brendan said to May.

May removed her hand from Drew's and stepped forward. Her eyebrows furrowed. "I know Drew as a friend. And what I know about him is that he doesn't try to force people to date him!" May yelled.

Brendan stared in shock at May's little outburst. "That's because he doesn't have to force girls to date him. Girls flock over him already." Brendan replied.

"Yeah, and I get this really nice letter from you, and you try to force me to go out with you!" May yelled. "And what I've also learned about Drew is that he's loyal and caring!"

Drew watched this argument in shock. She likes him for his loyalty? She said he's caring?

"I can be loyal and caring too!" Brendan yelled.

"No you can't!" May argued, the black rose jewel glowing. ("Oh no...I need to calm down. Deep breaths…") May took a deep breath. "You've already shown me that you clearly don't care if I get hurt."

"I…" Brendan said. He didn't know how to respond. She was right. He shouldn't have grabbed her like he did.

"If we're done here," Drew said. "That bracelet belongs to May." He said as he pointed to Brendan's hand that's holding the bracelet.

Brendan walked to May and handed her the bracelet. "I'm sorry for bothering you with this argument May. I'll be leaving now." Brendan turned and started walking away.

May slipped the bracelet on her wrist. She turned to face Drew. "Thanks again Drew. You always come at the right times."

"Yeah...I'm just lucky...I guess." Drew said.

"Yeah, but...how did you know I'd be here?"

"Well...if I'm being honest...I may have...followed you here." Drew answered shyly.

"May have?" May questioned.

"Okay, I followed you here, but it was only because I was scared of something like this happening." Drew said.

May smiled. "I'm glad you came Drew."

"Me too."

"Well...I should get going back home." May said.

"I'll see you at school." Drew said.

"See ya!" May said as she ran out of the flower field.

Drew sighed. ("She wants to know someone before dating them…She even said that she knows me as a friend, meaning that...if I confess...then maybe?")
