Chapter 9: Let It Go

We find May and Dawn at their lockers before the first school bell even rings. Around the corner, a certain green-haired boy is thinking about something.

("May and I are friends...right? I never forgot about our middle school years when she would completely ignore me. I still want to know why she did it. Why was she crying that day? What is she hiding from me? I need to know.")

Drew walks over to May. "Hey July. Can we talk?" He asked.

May closed her locker and looked at Drew. "Those words are never good. Did I do something wrong?" May asked.

"No you didn't. It's more of the question...did I do something wrong." Drew answered.

May looked at him, confused. And so did Dawn.

"There's just something I want to talk about, but...you might hate me for it." Drew said.

"What is it?" May asked.

"I want to bring up the reason why you ignored me during our middle school years." Drew said.

May knew exactly what he was talking about. She knows what he wants to hear. She turned her gaze down to his shoes.

"So...can you finally tell me why you would ignore me during all those months in 7th grade?" Drew asked.

"I can't." May said.

"But why not?" Drew asked.

"I just can't." May said louder, raising her gaze to Drew's face.

"May...aren't we friends? Best friends? You should be able to tell me anything." Drew said.

"Not this." May said. "Only my parents know the reason."

"And Dawn." Drew added, hurt building up inside of him.

"Drew…" May's voice trailed off.

"Just tell me the reason May. I promise I won't make fun of you, or tease you." Drew said.

"I can't Drew!" May yelled. May's voice was loud enough that now an audience was gathering in the hallway to watch May and Drew.

("Oh great…") May thought. "My parents told me to never tell anyone about this thing." May said quietly.

"About what thing?" Drew pushed.

"I said I can't say!" May yelled.

"We're friends May!" Drew snapped. "You were crying that day and people were talking behind your back! It wasn't a very nice thing on their part, so I want to know what happened that would make them do that!"

May's eyes started getting watery. "Why can't you just leave it alone!" May yelled.

"Because I care about you!"

May hesitated for a moment before screaming, "If you cared about my feelings, then you would respect that I don't want to talk about it!"

"But also, I would care enough to comfort you if something's wrong! And I know something is!" Drew yelled.

"Just...leave it...ALONE!" May screamed at the top of her lungs. When she yelled "alone", a wave came out of her. The wave was black and it threw Drew and Dawn backwards 5 feet because they were the closest to May. They fell on the hard ground on their backs.

Everyone around them gasped and Drew and Dawn struggled to stand up. "May...what was that?" Drew asked as he stood up.

May was shocked by what she did. "I...I...I don't know!" She yelled and then she ran, pushing through the crowd and running outside of the school. Once she screamed "I don't know", black roses sprouted through the ground all around her. And then she ran off, a trail of black roses following her.

"May! Wait!" Drew called to her once she ran, but May was already gone. Drew walked to the black roses.

Drew looked at Dawn. "Dawn, what is this?" He asked.

Dawn sighed. "This is what May was hiding for her entire life. She was born with the power to control nature." The audience gasped as they heard what Dawn said.

Drew balled his hands into fists. "I need to go find her." He said as he started walking in the direction May went.

Dawn stopped him by stepping in front of him. "Drew, it's too dangerous. You saw what May did when she yelled."

"But...this power of hers...if this is what people were whispering about in middle school, then that's wrong of them, because this is amazing." Drew asked. The crowd of people stared at him as if he's crazy.

"You all heard me." Drew said, looking at the crowd angrily. "If you guys think that May doesn't belong here with these powers of hers, then shame on you all. I think this just makes her unique. And she's felt that she has to hide it because…" Drew's voice trailed off.

"Because the people in middle school called her a freak." Dawn finished.

Drew focused his attention on Dawn. "I'm not the one in danger, she is." Drew said.

Dawn nodded. "Go try and calm her down."

"I will. I'll bring her back." Drew said. He then ran out of the school, following the trail of black roses.

May ran into a forest with a dirt path that she's currently walking on. She stopped running to catch her breath and then she started walking further into the woods. Everywhere you look there's trees, flowers, and grass. Pokémon fly and play in the forest. May will miss those days when she would play with wild Pokémon in her backyard, because she is never going back.

May stops and looks around at her surroundings while singing, "The sun shines bright only greenery in sight. Peace and quiet as it seems."

May started walking slowly. "A kingdom of isolation. And it looks like I'm the Queen." May stops walking.

"My roses growing involve my feelings inside. Couldn't keep it in, Entei knows I've tried."

May starts walking again, but faster than last time. "Don't let them in, don't let them see. Become normal, like you have wanted to be."

May keeps gaining confidence. "Conceal, don't feel. Don't let them know…"

May lifts up her wrists and stares at her bracelets. "Well now they know!" She sang as she pulled off the bracelet on her right wrist with her left hand and she threw it in the air.

"Let it go. Let it go." May looked to her left and motioned her hands to grow lavender roses along the dirt path. On the second "let it go", she looked to her right and grew more lavender roses along the path. "Can't hold it back anymore." She sang as she looked to her left and sprouted a giant lavender rose.

"Let it go. Let it go." She sang as she shot up some magic in the sky, from her left to her right hands, and lavender rose petals started falling. "Turn away and slam the door." When she sang "slam", she quickly moved her hands to their sides, while keeping them in the air in sort of like a princess elegant position. The petals that were falling then dropped immediately when she did that.

"I don't care," May threw some magic to her right, producing Oran Berry bushes. "What they're going to say." May threw magic to her left, producing more Oran Berry bushes. "Let the plants grow on…" May then stopped walking and took off her other bracelet. "The thorns never bothered me anyway." She sang and she dropped the bracelet on the ground.

May's smile grew and she continued looking at her surroundings while singing. "It's funny how some distance," May turned around and continued to walk backwards. "Makes everything seem small. But the fears that once controlled me, can't get to me at all!" May turned back around and started running.

May stopped when she came to a tall cliff. "It's time to see what I can do." May sang as she looked up at the cliff. "To test the limits and break through." When she sang "test", she threw her magic downwards and yellow rose petals rapidly came out of her hands. These petals are different though, they ended up acting like a Water Gun that can launch its user upward. May gently flew upwards while pointing her hands down and she landed on top of the cliff.

"No right, no wrong, no rules for me…" May sang as she looked back towards the school. "I'm free!" May turned back around and ran forward.

"Let it go! Let it go!" May sang as she threw magic in the air, exploding into yellow and lavender rose petals slowly falling down. "I am one with nature's life!" When May sang "nature's", she stopped running and fell to the ground, putting her magic in the dirt, creating a yellow magic wave and yellow flowers sprout up all around her. She stood up and continued to walk.

"Let it go! Let it go!" May sang as she shot magic up in the air again, exploding into yellow and orange rose petals slowly falling down. "You'll never see me cry!" When May sang "never", May stopped walking and formed her hands into clawed hands. She bent down, and when she sang "cry", she stood up straight while lifting her clawed hands up to the sky, growing Sitrus Berry trees to her left and right.

May ran forwards a bit and sang, "Here I stand!" When she sang "stand", she stomped her foot on the ground of the huge empty field that she's on, forming a green daisy flower design on the ground made out of plants. "And here I stay! Let the plants grow on…"

May clawed her hands again and raised them up to the air and at the same time, the daisy pattern started growing walls at the edges. May continued singing while using her magic to design this castle the way she wanted. "My power creates any living plant around!" May decorated the doorways with small flowers. "My soul is glistening whenever my hands touch the ground!" May finished growing the ceiling to her castle. "And they thought flowering is freakish, it's so bad!" May created flowery stairways. "I'm never going back. The past is in the past!" May pulled off her bandana and threw it somewhere.

"Let it go! Let it go!" May started using magic on herself. "And I'll rise like the break of dawn!" May stood still and sang while her outfit started to change. A pink dress was appearing from May's feet to her chest.

"Let it go! Let it go!" Pink long sleeves appeared on her arms and a long elegant pink cape grew out from the top of the dress. "That normal girl is gone!" She started walking out to her balcony that she made earlier while the bottom of May's long dress got decorated with a flower pattern. Her cape got a special design as well with flowers.

"Here I stand!" The last part of May's outfit appeared, a tiara. A beautiful pink tiara. "In the light of day!" May now stands on her balcony, looking in the direction of the school. "Let the plants grow on!" May sings at the top of her lungs. "The thorns never bothered me anyway." May quickly turns around and walks back inside her now complete castle. The castle is mainly green, but there's plenty of different colors for the many flowers that are decorating the outside. Once May finished her song, the black roses that she created on her way here all changed color to orange, yellow, or lavender.

"They changed color." Drew said to himself as he watched the black roses change color. He followed the trail all the way to the forest. He's currently walking down the dirt path and he'll soon find May.
