Chapter 11: A Golden Ending

We find May, Dawn, and Drew sitting at a table during lunch. All of a sudden, tons of guys sit at the table too.

"Hey May." A boy said.

"Umm...hi…" May said, questioning to herself why these strangers are here.

It's silent for a moment before the boys speak.

"Hey May, can we see more of your magic?"

"You looked so elegant yesterday when you slowly floated down surrounded by rose petals."

"Do you have a boyfriend?"

Drew tensed at those words.

"Umm...boyfriend?" May questioned. She looked at Drew as if asking him for help with fans.

Drew nodded, letting May know that he understands. He took May's hand in his and looked at her fanboys. "Sorry, but May's taken."

"Aww man…"

"We can still see more magic, right?"

"Of course." May answered. "But let's not do that right now. How about after school in the front?"

"Okay May!"

"We'll spread the word."

"I can't wait!"

All of the fanboys left the table.

"Thanks for that Drew." May took her hand out of Drew's. "It might take awhile for me to get used to fans."

"Understandable. Fans can be hard to deal with." Drew said.

"So...are you guys really a couple? I don't remember you saying that May." Dawn said.

"Umm...well...not...exactly…" May answered.

"What do you mean?" Dawn asked.

"Well…" May smiled. She leaned her chin into her hands with her elbows pressed on the table. "Drew hasn't asked me yet." She said as if hinting to Drew.

Drew got the hint. "So...you...want me to ask you?" Drew asked.

"Oh. No…" May said with a hint of sarcasm in her voice. "You're only like the only boy who likes me not for my powers."

"Well…" Drew placed a rose in May's hair. She glanced at Drew with her chin still in her hands. "Will you be my girlfriend?" Drew asked.

May looked forward. "Hmm...I don't know…" May teased.

"You don't?" Drew asked, slightly worried that May would say no.

Dawn smiled because she knows that May is just messing with him. May glanced at Dawn and winked at her. Dawn winked back. May turned to Drew.

"Here's your answer." May said. May then leaned forward and placed a kiss on Drew's cheek. May backed away and smiled.

Drew smiled back. Without saying anything, he held May's chin with his index finger and thumb and leaned in to kiss May on the lips. She was first shocked at Drew's quick response, but she then closed her eyes and enjoyed the kiss.

They separated and heard a huge "awwww" from around them. May and Drew looked around and saw that everyone in the cafeteria was surrounding their table.

"When did…?" May asked.

"I don't know…" Drew answered May's unfinished question.

"Looks like everyone knows that you two are now a couple!" Dawn said excitedly.

"I guess so…" May and Drew said in unison.

"Who's ready for some magic?" May asked excitedly. May heard huge applause coming from her huge audience. It's after school time, and word really got out of May putting on a little show.

"Okay then. Here we go!" May said. May threw magic in the air, exploding into pink rose petals that started slowly falling down. The rose petals were sparkling like a Petal Dance.

The audience were saying "ooh" and "ahh" with every trick that May showed them. May clawed her hand and raised it up, sprouting a giant pink rose from underneath her. The rose lifted May up above the crowd.

She continued her magic while standing on the giant rose. She shot her magic to the side and flower petals were now falling over the entire crowd. She was about to do another trick when-

Beep! Beep! Beep!

May whipped her head to the other side where the main street is. Crash! May flinched at that sound. Everyone in the audience heard it as well. Two cars crashed on the road in front of the school. The road is far enough that no one felt the shattered glass.

May saw security officers from the school going to see the damage. May jumped off of the rose and shot her magic down to help her float. She flew to the car crash.

"May!" Drew called. "Wait!" May was already there though. May's audience started following where May went.

May safely landed on the ground. "Is everything okay here?"

"Everything's going to be fine." A security officer said. "We're going to call tow trucks and get them to move the cars."

"Wait. You can let me do that." May said.

"You? How can you move vehicles?" A driver said.

"Just watch." May said. May sprouted giant roses underneath both cars that crashed. That's when May's audience made it to the road, of course still on the sidewalk. Everyone was out of the cars, so they just watched as May was controlling the giant roses to lift their cars.

"How are you doing that?" A driver said, mouth agape.

"Magic." May said simply. She turned to the security officers. "I can control the roses to go where the cars need to go."

"Very well then." A security officer said. "Take them to the impound."

May nodded and looked at the cars. She raised her hands to make the roses float and she moved her palms to face her left side, the roses following her command and flying above the road to the impound.

May's audience started applauding for May, the drivers still in shock along with two kids who were also involved in the crash.

"My work isn't done yet." May said as she examined the people who were in the car crash. The drivers were slightly cut because when the cars crashed, the windshields shattered.

The drivers both looked at their arms. "Oh…" One driver said as he saw cuts on his arm and saw blood. There was also one teenage boy who was sitting in the passenger seat of a car that also was slightly bleeding from the glass.

"Let me treat your wounds." May said to the people who were involved in the car crash. They all looked at her in confusion.

"What can you do to help?" A driver said.

"Well…" May started and bent down to touch the road with her hands. Grass appeared around the spot May touched. "There are certain medicinal herbs that heal wounds." A certain plant sprouted in the grass.

Everyone watched as May picked the plant from the grass and stood back up, the grass disappearing. She faced the drivers. "Hmm…" She hummed as she looked at the plants in her hands. "I got it!" She said and then she held her right hand out, palm face down, and something flew up out of the ground and May caught it in her right hand.

"Is that...seaweed?" Drew asked.

"Sure is!" May answered. She walked to a driver. "Arm." She said.

That driver held out one of his arms. May applied the plant onto a seaweed and wrapped it around his arm. "This seaweed should hold up." May said. She tied the seaweed in a knot at the ends. "Seaweed could be really strong even though it doesn't look like it is." May did the same thing to his other arm and the other driver.

May walked to the teenage boy and started to apply the herb to him. "How did you get these powers?" The boy asked. May tied the seaweed on one arm.

"I was born with them." May answered. "Like them?" She said as she moved to his other arm to apply the herb.

"I think it's lovely. I think you're lovely." The boy said. May looked up at him after tying the last piece of seaweed.

Drew didn't like this boy. Did he just call May lovely? He just called his girlfriend lovely? Drew saw the boy caress May's hair. He had to stop it.

"Umm…" May said.

"Has anyone ever told you how beautiful you are?" The boy asked.

Drew grabbed May's arm and pulled her backwards to him. "Someone has. Her boyfriend." Drew said. May blushed.

"Oh. Umm…" The boy said.

"How long do we need to wear these?" A driver said.

"Oh. Right." May said. "That herb that I used usually works extremely fast." May got out of Drew's grip and walked over to the driver.

May removed his "bandages." Everyone saw that the cuts were completely gone and sealed up and they all gasped.

"Wow. That fast?" Dawn asked.

"I told you that herb I used works wonders." May said as she removed the second driver's "bandages." Her cuts were also all sealed up. May walked back over to the teenager.

It's like he is planning to do...something to May while she is taking off his "bandages." He looked at Drew who just glared at him. The teenage boy got nervous under Drew's glare and he didn't do or say anything. Once May finished with the seaweed, she made them disappear into the ground. Everyone applauded for May again.

"You were amazing May!" Dawn exclaimed.

"Thanks…" May blushed a little. "It was nothing. I just had to help someone in need."

"Well, we owe you." The female driver said.

"You healed our wounds with ease. How can we repay you?" The male driver asked.

"Please. You don't have to repay me." May said. "My reward is your gratitude." When May said that, the floor underneath May started glowing yellow. Everyone looked at the ground with confusion.

"Umm...what's happening?" Drew asked.

"I...don't know…" May answered.

The glowing light soon shrunk into a small circle. Floating up from the circle...a rose. A golden rose. Everyone gasped at the sight of a sparkling, shimmering, shining in the light, golden rose. It floated up and May gently grabbed it.

When May grabbed hold of it, it glowed brightly and then dimmed. "It's...gold…" May said.

Drew walked closer to May. "You've never sprouted a golden rose before, right?"

"Right." May said.

"So, what do you think gold means?" Drew asked.

May didn't respond for a moment. She finally answered, "Compassion."

"Compassion?" Drew repeated.

May looked up at him and nodded. "I helped people in need of assistance by using my powers." May moved her left hand from the left to the right, bringing the cars back on floating pink roses.

"Why are the cars back?" The female driver asked.

"You'll see." May walked a bit forward, stopped, and lifted the golden rose up. It shined extremely bright that everyone had to look away to avoid getting blind. The two beat up cars sparkled a golden color as well. Once the lights all dimmed, everyone looked back to the cars to see that they were completely repaired.

The windows weren't shattered, the cars weren't dented, the air bags weren't out. May lowered her hand while still holding the golden rose.

"How…?" The male driver questioned as he slowly walked to his car.

"It's good as new…" The female driver said as she walked to her car as well.

"How did you do that May?" Drew asked.

"It's like I could sense that this gold rose had the power to heal things." May said. "When I sprout gold roses, it means that I helped someone in need. I was compassionate. And then...the rose appears and finishes the job."

"Wow May…" Drew said.

The golden rose disappeared in May's hands into sparkles. "I guess it goes away on its own when I fully take care of a problem." May said.

"Thank you for all of your help." The female driver said.

May nodded and the people entered their cars and drove away. May exhaled. "Nothing feels better than doing a good deed."
