Love Struck Delusion
Chapter 270 - A clash of sparks.
Archer's POV.
"We have an intruder! Repeat! We have an enemy inside the capital! All security teams are to converge on the area!"
Widening my eyes at the alert, I looked back at one of my officers to order.
"Get one of the roads open and have everyone form up at checkpoint three! We're abandoning the site! The rest of you are ordered to get back in the building and secure both Hecan and that scumbag Drake!"
"Yes sir!" They replied as I began to look around for any sign of the intruder. Unsure of where they could be or who it was, I was quickly grabbed from behind by another one of my men who informed me in earnest.
"Hecan and Linnen are gone! The men guarding them were killed!"
"What!?" I questioned in disbelief as he quickly urged me.
"We need to get you out of here sir! The area isn't safe and the capital isn't stable with all that fire!"
"Get a fire truck over here!" I urged him as he quickly screamed back.
"We can't! The fucking roads are closed!"
"Then open one god damn it!" I replied as another one of my men came up to hand me a rifle and direct into my ear.
"We can't risk it! We have a convoy forming at checkpoint three! We're gonna get you out of here and onto the roads!"
"And then what!?" I asked as the man replied.
"We have some men holding down at the munitions depot three miles north from here! It's the safest place to be right now! Especially if there is an intruder lurking around the perimeter! Come on!" He urged me as I took one last look at the capital as the gate behind me opened.
I took the fire in and the sight of everyone running for their lives as my ticket to leave. However when I took my first step back, I panicked when a bullet hit me in my right arm.
"Aghhhh!" I screamed as I stumbled back.
"Shots!" One of my men screamed as he got in front of me to body block my escape.
I couldn't see where that came from for the life of me, but I knew it was time to run when three more rounds drilled my body shield right in the chest and head. The body itself fell right back almost into my feet as another soldier took his place.
"Go! Go!" Someone screamed as return fire began to happen in all directions.
Slipping out the gate and onto the road, I grabbed at my wound and shouted as my men followed me out.
"Fuck! Fuck! Fucking fuck!"
We were running for our lives. I had no choice but to do this. Soon enough when we got to checkpoint one, I was guided into a truck and escorted out. Some of my men piled in with me, but the others decided to follow on foot. With blood rolling down my arm, I allowed one of the few medics to treat me. I was unsure of what to do other than curse to myself. How the fuck did this happen!?
The only course of action going forward was to stick to the plan at this point. The munitions depot they mentioned is a fortress. It's the safest place left for me.
Raptor's POV.
Archer ran the second I shot him. Leaving me to question my next move. Where the hell was he going? I had to ask myself as I lowered my M4 and turned back for the maintenance room. Running for the door, I widened my eyes when it came slamming outward into my chest. The power behind it hit me so hard I stumbled back. Then I watched as Carter came running out to tackle me by the waist.
"Aghhhhh!" He screamed as he lifted me up off my feet and came down slamming me as hard as he could onto the roof. My M4 fell off to my left and from that moment on there was no time to talk. He didn't even try to give me a chance. His fists came flying and using what I had in terms of defense, I blocked his hammerfists, and shifted the weight over to our right; taking us into a small roll where I got the chance to retaliate.
Slamming him in the side of his head with my right hand, I growled and took it when he managed to separate us with a well placed elbow to my face.
"You motherfucker!" He shouted as I got off him and began to roll towards the AC. Carter wasted little time to grab his sidearm and began to fire off rounds. Sparks flew from the cover as I tried to plan my next course of action.
"Your fucking dead!" He told me as I got a grip over my MP7. Unloading the mag and pulling a fresh one out from my vest, I loaded the rounds and ducked when he continued to fire into the AC.
"BANG! BANG! BANG! Click!"
I widened my eyes when I heard his clip go dry. Swinging out at full speed, I took aim and watched as he sped off to the left, picking up my M4 from the ground as he ran for the nearest place of cover.
The sound of suppressed shots covered the roof and to my disappointment I managed to miss every shot. Carter on the other hand managed to get behind a series of vents which I proceeded to dump my clip into. Once I ran out of ammo, I made a break for the maintenance room.
"Toof! Toof! Toof! Toof!"
Carter wasn't stuipd. He saw me run and decided to open up with my rifle. I caught a round to my left leg and just barely got inside in time. Using what I had, I shut the door and ran down the stairs. I heard him come in the second I got down them. However that wasn't the only issue. The fucking whole second floor was on fire. Parts of the floor were caving in and I had little to work with. My only choice was to run through it all or die trying.
Taking my chances, I decided to run into the flames. Carter got down in time to see me make my move. From there he opened up on me with what ammo he had left in my rifle. I felt two rounds hit my back and when they did, I stumbled over some rubble and fell forward going right through the floor due to the lack of support.
"Aghhhhhhh!"
The tumble down was complete shit. I landed in more flames and began to panic when my uniform began to ignite.
"Shit! Shit!" I shouted as I did my best to pat it out and get up at the same time.
My mind was racing as I knew Carter was not going to wait. I had to go and there was no other choice but to take this outside. The second I made it to the lobby Carter had reached the top of the stairs to see me running for the entrance.
"Toof! Toof! Toof! Toof! Toof!"
Fucking guy was still a good shot. I thought to myself as he again managed to clip me in the vest. I coughed up on some air when it happened, but got clear of the fire and found myself back outside. This time among plenty of trouble. Most of it being scared civilians who were all either running for their lives or just watching the capital burn.
Using what I had left, I decided my best bet to get out of here would be to go out the same way Drake and Hecan hopefully did. The garage wasn't far and I knew it would get me out of this courtyard. Some rebellion soldiers littered the area, but were all too focused on helping the civilians to even notice me as I ran for it. Yet when Carter got outside he screamed out.
"Stop him!"
Attention followed his command and so did more bullets. People began to scream now in fear from the live shooting. I looked back from time to time to see some getting shot instead of me. Pulling out my Glock, I pointed it forward when a soldier managed to get in my way.
"Toof! Toof! Toof!"
Sending him down among the ground, I hopped the body and broke away towards the junkyard. Once inside I looked for the break in the fence. The panels were on the ground next to it which meant Drake managed to get Hecan out. No telling where they were at this moment, but that didn't matter as I got out onto the street just in time to catch another squad of soldiers coming from one of the checkpoints. I widened my eyes also as I saw Archer getting into a truck. The thing itself started to move as the men guarding his escape began to send rounds my way.
"G.U.N!" Someone else screamed out as I fucking booked it across the road as fast as I could.
Just as I made it to the other side, another round hit me in my chest. This time it also hit my radio which blew up just in front of my eyes. The sparks made me lose control over my legs and so I tumbled forward into the alley, tossing it away as it was no longer usable. I could feel some blood running down my leg as I got back to my feet.
Vacus's POV.
"Holy shit." Dom mumbled as we watched the capital continue to burn down.
The day was today to make an actual move, but this wasn't our doing. Archer was fleeing the scene and any soldiers that remained were for some reason focused on the main road. Dom, and I were in a neighboring building watching from the windows. Over our radios we heard from Marhick.
"What the hell is going on down there Dom? We see the fire from here."
"I have no clue, but something is happening." He replied as I widened my eyes and saw someone running out from the fenceline. Tapping Dom on his arm, I pointed at the area and watched as this hedgehog came stumbling forward onto the road. Dom leaned up to get a good look and muttered to himself.
"What the fuck?"
My eyes saw the uniform itself was G.U.N. Yet the man in it was all but familiar to me. There wasn't any other person alive that I knew that had those purple eyes and once some of Archer's men began to open up on him, both Dom and I panicked when we saw something on his vest go up in sparks. Then he got away into an alley and left our view.
Grabbing his rifle from up off the ground Dom said to me in a rush.
"We need to get down there. I know that crazy motherfucker."
I nodded my head and looked back to the capital as another man came out from the fenceline to begin giving chase. Picking up my gun, I followed after Dom.
Linnen's POV.
"We're almost there." I told Hecan as he struggled to climb twenty floors of stairs.
"Remind me to buy a treadmill when I get back home Drake." Thankfully he was still in a good enough mood to joke around. However we weren't safe yet. Nearing the roof, I got on the radio Raptor gave me to send out.
"Hello? Is anyone there? This is Drake Linnen."
When we reached the roof another voice replied.
"My name is Esma. I'm the pilot who's on standby awaiting orders. Where's Voltz?"
Helping Hecan up the last step I replied.
"Busy. Told us to get to safety then call in for extract. How far out are you?"
In a few seconds he replied back.
"Depends on where you are."
Unsure of where that even was I replied.
"Ahhhhhh not that far from the capital. Maybe a block or two north. We're currently on a rooftop. Tallest thing around."
"I think I can figure that one out. Is it safe to come in?"
Nodding I replied.
"As safe as it can be. Hurry up."
"Hold your horses. I'm on my way."
With the comm going silent, I looked back to Hecan to ask him.
"Ready to get out of here?"
Smiling he replied.
"Yes. I have no clue what I'm going to tell my wife."
His focus was on his wrapped finger. I was unsure of what to really say but replied in hopes it would help.
"Tell her the truth. Women tend to like war stories."
The fox began to chuckle and together we looked back at the capital to see the fire burning stronger than ever. For a moment I asked myself what was happening. Did Raptor manage to get out? Did he kill Archer? I had no idea. All I knew for sure was that we were getting out of here. The army would take care of the rest in time.
Zeta's POV.
This whole trip felt like something out of a movie. I felt powerful with this invading force, and for once in my life I could say I was really part of a battle between armies. However that couldn't hold a candle to what I was thinking about. Pepper sat next to me in the truck we were hitching a ride in. From time to time she looked over at me to make sure I was okay. Yet I couldn't think about anything other than that idiot of mine. With my thoughts racing, I widened my eyes when I heard over the radio.
"HVTs secured. We're heading back home."
The men driving the truck began to cheer to themselves as I asked my sister.
"What does that mean? Where's Raptor?"
She had no clue what to say back. So going to my comm I asked the pilot.
"What about Voltz?"
From his end we heard from Drake.
"He decided to stay behind. There was no other way. He risked his life to give us a chance."
Feeling my heart sink I questioned.
"Is he dead?"
Slowly he replied.
"Not sure. We lost contact with him just after he freed us. The capital itself is burning down and we heard gunfire just before we lifted off. He might still be down there. All I know for sure is his plan was still the same. He's going after Archer."
"Oh my god." I whispered to myself as Pepper took over the conversation by asking.
"How long till we're there?"
Our driver replied.
"Another hour and half."
"We aren't gonna get there in time Pep." I told her as she quickly begged me.
"Don't think about it. We're going to get there and he'll be there waiting."
"He's gonna die." I muttered as my hope was cut down. That fucking asshole really had to do this himself. I was hopeless to help and forced to wait. Please god don't do this to me. Not again.
Raptor's POV.
I was being hunted. No matter how fast I ran they kept coming. Carter was still on my tail and I was running out of options. I spotted Archer's convoy heading east from here just before I lost sight. There wasn't any place over in that direction that I knew of other than the old munitions depot the rebellion used to store whatever high powered weaponry we had left. If anything he was going right there. It was a fortress of a building and the permeter was at the very least guarded by a few squads. Yet it was at least three miles from my current position and with this hunting party tracking me down, I had no idea how or when I would get there. All I knew for sure was that my escape routes were getting limited. Alleys were far from few and I'd find myself on the street again in no time. Which itself came much sooner than expected.
Breathing as best as I could, I looked from side to side to see no one at either end of the street. Running across the road, I looked again to my right to spot a rebellion humvee coming from down the street. The second I saw it they must have seen me. Because it became a matter of survival when the turret on top began to open fire.
"Oh fuck!" I shouted as I leaped behind a few parked cars.
From the moment I hit the ground, those fifty caliber rounds began to tear everything apart. Some went right through the cars just barely missing me as I crawled to the very front side which was nearest the truck itself. Looking down at my MP7, I got on my back and loaded another clip. Then peeked out to take shots at the vehicle. Sparks formed as I hit the turret's shield, and to no surprise it refocused it's aim right on me. In return, I jumped back again and went the other way hoping not to get my head taken off.
Glass from the windows began to shower my back as I crawled and when I reached the other side, I looked out onto the street to see Carter running down the alley. Taking aim, I fired off what I had left managing to clip him in the left arm and I think his right leg. The man himself took cover behind a dumpster and left me to fend for my next move.
Things were getting really bad. The truck just kept shooting and in a split second the car furthest from me went up in flames. I barely had time to cover my ears from the blast. Then the truck decided to drive at me. Pulling a frag off my belt, I pulled the pin and stood back up to toss it at the front end of the hood. The grenade itself blew up maybe a foot above the engine, but that didn't stop the turret from keeping on the fire. Doing my best to duck down in time, I felt this sharp pain enter my left arm from one of the rounds finally managing to get through to me.
"Aghhhhhh!" The pain was so bad I couldn't describe it. The force that round had behind it sent me on my stomach and had my arm locked from moving anymore. My blood came gushing out and with Carter leaving the alley to push me, I thought my time was near. Reaching for another grenade, I pulled the pin and tossed it back over the hood of the car I was pinned behind. I prayed I threw it in the right direction of the truck and when it went off I found out I managed to do just that. The blast this time around sent the humvee up in flames and the men inside it burned to a crisp. Yet that was a mute point when more soldiers came running in from the direction it drove in from and Carter was approaching with his M9 out and trained in on my cover.
"BANG! BANG! BANG!"
He fired off three rounds at the hood of the car I was behind, and with no choices left, I pulled back out my Glock and switched it to full auto to begin firing off the clip blindly over at him. I heard him scream in pain and taking my chance I ran for it. There was a flower shop just behind me that had it's windows broken from all the gunfire. Carter widened his eyes as I jumped through and towards the counter.
"Shit! Fuck!" I grunted to myself as I couldn't move my arm. I had to focus on healing if I wanted it back, but that wasn't much of a choice considering Carter began to fire rounds into the counter.
Crawling towards a backdoor, I slipped inside and managed to lock it behind me.
Carter's POV.
I was bleeding out. That fucker got me good with that last volley of rounds. One sat in my stomach as reinforcements finally came to help. Looking at the men I shouted.
"He's trapped! Secure the road we're….!?"
Everything went even more south when all the sudden we were getting attacked from the alley I just came from. Three of my men dropped before the return fire started.
"Ambush!" Someone shouted from my side as I looked down at my stomach to see the blood coming through my clothes.
Biting my lip, I reloaded my M9 and looked back at the flower shop. I couldn't let this fucker live pass this. Using all I had, I got up and got inside the building. Going behind the counter to find the door locked, I fired a round at the handle and kicked it through. Nothing beyond that point mattered, but ending this.
Going through the door, I found a trail of blood leading towards a few crates. The only cover left for him to hide behind. Slowly aiming my M9 at the boxes, I ordered the man behind them.
"Come on out! You're finished! You can't run anymore!"
"You don't want to do this Carter!" My ears went up when I heard the voice fire back at me. Unsure of who it was I was fighting, I questioned in disbelief.
"Do I know you?!"
With my sights on the crate, I watched as a set of eyes peek around the cover to look at me. I felt my heart drop seeing it was no one other than Raptor Voltz. Dawning a G.U.N uniform and killing his own men to get here. I let out a small chuckle to say.
"I can't believe this. You? You're the one who attacked us? You're the one who burned down the capital?!"
With his eyes never leaving me he replied.
"You don't have to do this Carter. You can still walk away."
Now I laughed and asked.
"Are you fucking kidding me? This whole time it was you. You sold out and thought you could just come over here and kill us? What the fuck were you thinking? I trusted you."
"I trusted you!" He replied back as I ordered him.
"Stand up! Stand up you motherfucker! I wana see your face!"
Raptor slowly did as I asked. He struggled to lift himself, but when he did I got the full view. He really was a traitor. Silence came between us for that moment. As he had his sidearm lowered in his right hand, I ordered him.
"Drop it."
The man didn't listen. He just replied back to me.
"I can't do that man. You know I can't."
"You turned your back on us."
Shaking his head he replied.
"I didn't do anything. You turned your back on me! Standing up with Archer as he slaughters our people?"
"You're doing the excat same fucking thing!" I shouted back at him as he again replied.
"This is about the future of the middle east. Not about power. Not about abusing what I got left. Archer needs to die. You know that too."
Keeping my sights trained on his head, I said back to him bluntly.
"The only person that needs to die is you. You fucking traitor."
"Don't do this Carter." He begged me as I squeezed the trigger.
"BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!"
Raptor's POV.
I jumped in place the second I heard the shots rip off. Carter stood there with wide eyes as the gun in his hand dropped to the ground in front of his feet. I watched as his eyes looked down at his chest to see four rounds going through his vest. From there he looked back up at me and fell forward. His head bouncing off the ground as he died right there.
Doing my best to recover, I looked up to find a familiar face staring at me. A rifle in her hands and her sights on me now as Carter was dealt with at last. I was still bleeding myself, but as our eyes locked, she lowered her weapon to smile at me. In confusion I asked.
"Lieutenant Vacus?"
She nodded and right then and there I looked back at Carter to tell her.
"Thank you."
The cat took notice of my wounds and came right up to help me level out. Looking into her eyes I asked her.
"What are you doing here? I thought you'd be dead."
Unaware of what else to ask her at the moment, I looked behind her when another person came in to reply to my question with a jolly and outright happy tone of voice.
"Looks like in this case we're here to save your ass…...commander."
mT Shadow.
