Ashamed, sad, and being taken away as prisoner to the very home that will surely turn against him soon enough when words gets out. Shyu was a good man and unlike many people of the Fire Nation; his homeland, Shyu was not brainwashed by the propaganda that the wicked ruler, Fire Lord Ozai, had created among the general public of his home territory. He had accomplished something great and something that will help bring balance to the world one day. To him, it was the greatest thing he had ever done, but for everyone else in the Fire Nation that loved Ozai, Azulon, and Sozin for what they believed was greatness, it will be a blasphemy far worse than any treason that has ever been committed.
He was behind the other Fire Nation Sages who were falsely accused of treason, and Commander Zhao was in front of them all. A couple of other guards were accompanying him from side to side while three more guards were behind Shyu and the sages to prevent them from escaping or running away.
Poor Shyu knew exactly what is to become of him. He knew very well what happens to Fire Nation citizens or even military or government officials when they have committed what they call: "treason" to the Fire Lord and his own home. Remembering the names: "Aang," "Katara, and "Sokka", possibly the only friends he had ever known in his life. Glad to have met all three of them, he knew that he had done something really great and very heroic, even if most of the Fire Nation wouldn't think of it that way. Going through the streets of the main city, the patrons: vendors, farmers, men, women, even children were surprised to see what was going on. Just looking at the sages being taken away as prisoners was something very unexpecting for everyone in the town to see.
Something caught Shyu's eye when he saw two children with their parents, looking shocked and looking like they were about to cry just seeing this happen. The children were his grandchildren, and the two adults were his son and daughter-in-law.
"Dad?" said the man
"Corro." Shyu stopped for a moment to look at his own family, but he was immediately pushed forward in a violent push before he could say more to them all.
"Keep moving, traitor!" said the guard who pushed Shyu. the elderly man had no choice but to comply. He didn't want to see his own family being put in danger. At last, when they all made it to the palace, every one of the sages were scared to see the Fire Lord, Ozai himself, sitting on his thrown, and next to him was Azula, his own daughter.
At last, Zhao and the others stopped and bowed to him to pay respect. "Forgive the intrusion, my lord." said Zhao, "I have come to you today to bring you these sages. They have helped the Avatar contact Avatar Roku in his temple in a way to bring you down. What shall we do with them?"
Without saying a word, Ozai slowly stood up from his throne, and walked down the steps to meet these sages face-to-face. "Hmmmm... helping the Avatar?" he said at last. "Quite out of the ordinary."
"I have told commander Zhao for countless times!" said the leader of the sages. "It was Shyu that helped the Avatar! And his friends!" he pointed his finger to the true "traitor." then he continued shouting by saying: "Me and the other sages had nothing to do with this conspiracy!"
He was then cut short when Zhao punched him across the face, hard. "Shut up, you peasant! How dare you shout your name to the Fire Lord himself in his own home?!"
the Commander was then cut short by Ozai raising his arm in front of him: "Calm yourself, Zhao."
"But they have committed the greatest treason against you, the most horrible crime, my lord!" the Commander continued protesting. "I say we should through them into the Volcano and make them writhe in pain!"
"ZHAO!" Ozai raised his voice. the booming sound of his yell startled the commander greatly, and it made him bow his head with his eyes closed. "Listen to yourself," he sounded more calm than ever. "You are arresting people that have committed no crime out of anger again." he looked quite intimidating to Zhao and Zhao felt very weak right now, and he clenched his fists in shame. "The next time you do this again, you will be banished too. Speaking of which, what of my son?"
"He got away, my lord." Zhao said in a slow way. "Same with the Avatar and his meddling friends. It was not my fault."
"I am afraid we know very well that it is." said Ozai sternly. "It was by your own actions that they got away. But, I will give you one last chance to prove yourself."
The commander gave one small smile of hope, knowing that he will not be fired since Ozai trusts him so much. "Thank you, my lord."
"Now, leave us. I will deal with them."
"But, I still suggest we-"
"I SAID LEAVE US!" Ozai bellowed.
Zhao bowed his head and said: "As you wish, my lord." then he and his men left the chambers.
Ozai turned his head to the sages, and looked at all of them very calmly, and then back to Shyu. "Hmmm. So almost all of you are innocent?" he asked every one of the sages.
"We promise, we were helping Zhao in capturing the Avatar, my lord." the grand sage said. "Shyu is the traitor. Not us, only him. We would never betray you like this."
"I see." said Ozai. "Release them all." he ordered his guards. He noticed another one of them about to release shyu, but he then said: "Except for Shyu. He is a traitor however. I will deal with him soon enough. The rest of you are free to go." the Sages were very gratetul for Ozai's act of kindness and were escorted out of his quarters, leaving Shyu, who looked ashamed of himself, all alone, and ready to face the consequences. "So, Shyu, you have helped the Avatar in plotting against me, by helping him contact Roku and tell him what he needed to defeat me. Is this true?"
Shyu was silent for a moment, and he ultimately said: "Yes." in a flat voice. "Everything you have heard about me betraying you is true. I admit it, I have helped the Avatar."
"Hmm. May I ask why you have turned against me?"
"Yes. Because I am a sage. A sage's purpose is to serve the Avatar, not the Fire Lord or anyone else. Being forced to serve you and you alone is unjust and protecting the Avatar is still a sage's duty. There. I have confessed why I have betrayed you."
"Well, I can most certainly understand why you have done it."
"Understand?"
"Of course." Ozai gave a cold smile. "I perfectly understand why you have committed high treason." back to a frown, he barked: "Guard!"
A heavy Firebending soldier came over to his master's side. "Yes, my lord?"
"Take him to an available cell, where he will live for the remainder of his pitiful life."
"Yes, my lord. Consider it done." the brute went over to Shyu and grabbed his shoulder. "Come on. Through the door you go." then he moved Shyu to the dungeon and as soon as he got in, the former sage heard the cell door "Bang!" behind him, and sat on the bed after his cuffs were taken off. Before he could despair, he suddenly had visions of the future. Yes, he saw Aang, his friends, and even Zuko thwarting Ozai and finally restoring balance to the world.
He gave a smile and said: "There is hope. Grandfather, I hope you are proud of me."
