She almost succeeded in forgetting Will for a moment…. until she saw Will outside of the court room. "Damn." She sighed. Then she realized she started sweating. And when Will turned around and saw her, she took a deep breath to try to hide the butterflies in her stomach. Despite his anger, he still had the power to instantly turn her into a little girl in high school who is meeting her crush for the first time. When Will started to walk toward her, her eyes widen and the air around her seemed suddenly thinner.
"That's enough!" Will yelled at her. "Haven't you taken enough of my clients already? You dare to poach Bob Klepper, one of my top clients?"
She couldn't hide the disappointment in her. She was like a balloon that is leaking air. She closed her eyes for few seconds and sighed.
"I don't know what you are talking about." She said tiredly. Bob Klepper? I didn't poach him. Could it be Cary?
"Don't play dumb. I don't know how long you have been plotting against me, but you think you could defeat me this easily? Think again. Stay out of my life!"
He turned around and left before she could say anything. She stood there for a long time, speechless, and it took every ounce of her energy to stop from bawling. It was not the first time Will yelled at her with harsh tone, but it still hurt like thousand spikes pierced through her at the same time.
When she drove back to her office, she could barely remember how the voir dire went. Everything was blurry, except for Will's words, playing over and over and over in her head.
"Stay out of my life!" She wanted to just lie down on the floor and never get up again.
"Cary, did you poach Bob Klepper from Will? Why didn't you tell me? When was it? I thought I told you we have to find our own clients. We can't keep poaching their clients."
Alicia peppered Cary with thousand questions at once. Cary raised his eyebrows.
"Well, hello to you too Alicia."
Alicia rolled her eyes. "Did you poach Bob Klepper from Will?"
"No. Did Will accuse you for poaching Klepper?"
She didn't answer that. "You really didn't poach him?"
"No, Alicia. But I know who did."
"Who?" Alicia asked anxiously. She secretly sighed and glad to hear that her firm had nothing to do with Klepper.
Cary lowered his voice. "I overheard it at lunch today. Wilk Hobson was sitting at the table behind me, and he was bragging about it to his lawyer friends, how he poached Klepper from L/G just this morning."
Wilk Hobson was a snake. Alicia knew he was one of those narcissistic assholes who was incompetent but boasted about everything all the time. He had no moral sense and would gladly stab you in the back if it benefits him.
Alicia was carried away in her own thoughts again. Cary shook his head, lightly tapped her shoulder and sighed. "You and Will…. so high school" He mumbled as he walked away.
Alicia suddenly had an idea. She walked to the other side of her office to find Robin.
"Robin."
"Yes. What do you need?" Robin asked.
"I need you to do something for me. But don't tell anyone and only come back to me. Okay?"
"Okay."
