Summary: Rivetra Week 2013 Day 2 Prompt
"Hey, Petra?" Mikasa's voice came from the second floor.
"Yeah?"
"Can you come up here?"
"I'll go start the car." Levi grabbed the keys. "Meet you outside."
Upstairs, Petra approached the closed bathroom door, knocking. "I'm here." Mikasa let her in, looking rather shy and awkward. "What's up?" Petra asked curiously.
"I think I started my period," she rushed out.
"Oh." She smiled, trying not to make her feel awkward. "Let me go get my purse."
Mikasa nodded and said, "I need to change into a different dress." She looked at her pale yellow dress in disappointment. Petra knew she had been eager to wear it to the wedding. "I don't want it to stain."
Once she grabbed her purse, Petra waited patiently to be let back in. "I have tampons and pads. Which one do you want?"
"Pad."
"Do you know how to use it?"
"I think so," she replied hesitantly. "Yeah."
"Well, let me show you how to put it on anyway," Petra said, in case she felt too embarrassed to ask. After she was done, she grabbed a few spare ones she kept in the master bedroom's bathroom and put them on Mikasa's desk. She stood outside the bathroom door, wondering if she should text her boyfriend and let him know.
Before Petra could pull out her phone, Mikasa stepped out in a dark blue dress. "I'm ready."
"If you need more later on, let me know. Also, I keep a few pads here and I put them in your room for tonight and tomorrow. I can take you to the store tomorrow to get more."
"Thanks."
Petra checked her watch. "We should hurry or we'll be late."
As soon as Levi joined her in the bed, Petra scooted over to hug his side. "Hey. I didn't get a chance to tell you earlier—and Mikasa didn't want to say anything while we were in the car."
"Tell me what?"
She tilted her head to look at him. "Mikasa started her period this morning."
"Oh."
In her own case, her mother had been away and only her father was around when her period first came. At that age, it felt like the most awkward thing in the world even though her father had been very good about handling it, so she could understand why Mikasa might find it easier to approach her and let her tell Levi instead of facing him herself. Especially since the girl had only moved in with her cousin a couple of months ago and they were still getting to know each other.
"Thanks for helping her," Levi said. "She's almost thirteen and I figured she would start soon. I read a bunch of articles so I'd be better prepared when the time came. I bought some pads beforehand, too."
"You did?"
"Yeah. I was actually planning to bring it up with you and ask for your advice."
"That's very considerate of you." Petra kissed his cheek. "I can talk to her if you want."
"Would you?" Levi asked, relieved. "I think she'd much rather hear it from you than me."
"I'd be happy to help."
"I'll still have a conversation with her at some point when we're more comfortable with each other. I don't want her to think she can't approach me about it. But I think it's better if you do it now. There are probably some things only you as a woman can explain I don't know about or understand properly."
She nodded. "I can think of a few."
He squeezed her side and kissed her hair. "You're the best."
"I know. Feel free to mention it more."
