Teddy Bear
Disclaimer: I do not own Shingeki no Kyojin
Summary: Levi waits in line at dawn and befriends another person waiting in front of him.
Love how everyone called out there'd be no divorce in the last chapter lol. It's true of course.
Levi suppressed a yawn and tightened his jacket around him. He exhaled and white mist appeared in front of him. The store wasn't supposed to open until 5 am. He pulled out his phone to check the time, 4:24 am.
Behind him, the line stretched from the front of the store, which was in the center of the plaza, to almost the road. Levi didn't miss that the majority of the men and women in line were middle-aged. Now he was glad Petra had woken him up just over thirty minutes ago and sent him here. And he'd thought showing up at the store at 7 am would have sufficed. Normally he wouldn't be up for another hour and a half.
Bored, he unlocked his phone and refreshed the website but the red "Out of stock" announcement didn't change.
"You, too, huh?"
Levi glanced up at the man in front of him. He was wearing a business suit with a name tag that read Farlan C.
"Sorry, didn't mean to spy or anything," Farlan apologized. "Your phone just caught my eye."
On Levi's phone was an image of a blue bear. "They're all out of this toy online," Levi said with a sigh. "This is the only store with it in stock."
"I hope I get it in time before I have to be at work." Farlan checked his watch. "It's close by, thankfully."
"I have the day off. If I can't find this bear here, well, I might just have to drive to another state. My son is obsessed with this cartoon."
Farlan chuckled. "Mine, too. If I don't find one here, mind if I blow off work and join you?"
"By all means."
"But, man, " Farlan remarked, hands in his pockets, "releasing only a limited number at this insane price, what a greedy company."
"Tell me about it. Ten years ago, I never would have thought I'd blow a $100 on a kid's toy for a five-year-old—there's no fucking way it costs even a fifth of that amount to make the dumb thing."
"You're right about that," Farlan said. "But these companies are pretty damn smart. They know we gotta have it for our kids. It's so hard to see their little faces fall, all crushed that Mommy and Daddy couldn't get them this one little thing. Meanwhile, everyone else at daycare has one."
Levi understood it all too well. "I bet they'll mass produce this bear in a couple of months and sell it at a cheaper price."
"I'll bet my son will already grow tired of this bear and forget all about it in a month or so."
Levi snorted. "That's the fate of all my kid's toys suffer. I doubt this time will be any different."
"I knew it." Levi came down the stairs, holding a blue bear. "Look."
Petra glanced up from her book, sitting with her legs tucked under her.
"I knew he was going to forget about this thing in a couple of months." He sat next to her, studying the stuffed animal.
"At least you made a new friend."
"True. But seriously, a $100? What were we thinking? We must have lost our minds. Let's not do that again."
His wife chuckled, closing her book. "Agreed. Lesson learned."
"I'm exhausted." Levi yawned. "How do parents put up with more than one of those hyper balls of energy? Our one brat is a handful all by himself."
"Right, so, about that..." Petra trailed off pointedly.
His tiredness evaporated. "Are you pregnant?"
"I was going to make a doctor's appointment this weekend. But I took the test earlier today and it was positive."
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"I wanted to confirm it first. I had this whole reveal planned, too, but I couldn't hold it in," she said giggling.
"I hope you're a girl," Levi said to her stomach, kissing it.
Petra laughed, scratching his hair. "Her older brother also wants a little sister."
Levi put the bear on the table and wrapped his arms around her, kissing her head, feeling a rush of affection. He couldn't wait for the ultrasound and shopping for baby clothes and setting up the baby's room. "Whoa," Levi said in surprise when he felt Petra's hand slide into his pajamas.
She kissed his neck. "You know how horny pregnancy hormones make me."
"All too well." The last time, when she was pregnant with their son, for a month there she could barely keep her hands off him, constantly ripping off his clothes and wanting him between her legs.
Petra lay back excitedly, not even noticing that her book fell from the sofa. Shen sighed when he began kissing her. Her hands roamed his back and she tugged up his shirt.
"Wait, wait, wait." Levi straightened and grabbed the bear from the table.
"What're you doing?" Petra said when he threw the bear and it landed face down on a distant couch.
Levi nodded in satisfaction. "I don't want it watching us have sex."
Petra grabbed the front of his shirt and yanked him down.
