October 28th [Somewhere in Brooklyn]

"Damn it!" Jace cursed, coming to a complete halt, looking up at the dark brick in front of him. His heart slammed hard in his chest, and he looked around at his obstacle. He sprung into action, using the corner of the brick wall, to run his way up the side of the wall, where he grabbed the lip of a fire escape and pulled himself up with ease. He broke climbed to the top of the building, getting to the roof, and looking around. The night sky was swirling dark, and clouds threatened rain. He sprinted across the rooftop, hurling himself from the top of that building to the next, rolling with his landing. "Damn it damn it!"

As he landed on the third building, he got hit from the sit, slammed to the ground by a vampire. He struggled with the vampire, twisting, and deflecting hits. Then the vampire was ripped away from him. He looked up at Simon, who's eyes shone red like a cold one. "Come on, we have to keep moving." Simon's voice rang out, musical almost, and Jace gripped Simon's cold hand in his as Simon helped him to his feet. They sprinted, Simon, slowing his speed for Jace as they rushed back to the institute.

Rewind, October 24th [Pandemonium]

Rock Steady Panda exited the stage at ten, Simon headed to the bar to grab a quick drink. Magnus was talking lowly with the bartender when Simon walked up. "Yo, Magnus. What's up?" Simon called and Magnus looked to Simon.

"Hmm. There are vampire sightings nearby." Magnus said, sighing. "Not the Raphael kind either."

Raphael smirked; he was tending the bar for Magnus a few nights a week. "Yeah, it's the ice-cold kind."

"Why not ask Jasper about it?" Simon pointed out and then when Raphael handed him a drink, he took it.

"Well, I did ask Jasper. He said he's going to track them, whoever it is. Emmett is still handling things in South America from what he was saying, and Jasper and Alice are the only two outside of Carlisle, that are even in New York now." Magnus explained.

Raphael was cleaning a glass when he walked back over from serving another patron. "Well, I have a few guys looking around as well. I know I shouldn't care so much about it, but since demons have resurrected Valentine or whatever bullshit that is, I'm more on edge, and I have an entire coven to protect. Those icy bastards are a menace."

"Jasper and the other Cullen's aren't so bad." Simon took a big drink of his drink.

"They're an exception. They're weird even for their kind. Who doesn't eat people?" Raphael scoffed and shook his head.

Magnus rolled his eyes. "Either way, it's troublesome that whoever it is, is making a sudden appearance now."

Simon shrugged. "I don't know. What if they're just passing through?"

"The body count that has doubled is proof enough that they're dangerous to this city." Raphael said. "Even I have some finesse and know better than to hunt on home turf. They're draining out these humans and leaving them where anyone can see. The wolf prick at the station is having to cover it all up."

Magnus sighed. "Well, for now, we just keep doing what we're doing. Alcohol, sex with strangers, and partying." His mouth moved up in a smile.

"Sex With Strangers…" Simon mumbled. "Sounds like a cool band name."

"Hey Simon," Jake called as he approached. "Awesome set man." He said and high fived Simon and nodded to Magnus. "There's a Camille here asking for Raph."

Magnus raised a brow. "Camille is back?" He asked, looking at Raphael.

"She is. Temporarily. Cash." Raphael mumbled and disappeared from behind the bar to go see what Camille wanted.

Simon finished his drink in another gulp. "Well then, I'm out. I've got sparring stuff with Jace tomorrow. Can't be late." He said and then he was off. Leaving the club and heading towards the institute. He pulled his phone out, looking at a few texts from his mom and sister. He replied quickly to them, and then shoved it back into his pocket. Suddenly he was pulled into the ally, a freezing hand clamped hard over his mouth.

"Scream, fight, or make any sudden moves, I will end you," the chilled voice said in his ear.

Simon nodded, his heart rate increasing. He watched as the voice appeared, the ghastly glow of the white skin was starkingly white against the night. His bronze hair was sculped perfectly and his crimson eyes shimmered even though there was no light to reflect in them.

"Good." The man said when Simon didn't make any sudden moves. "You're going to tell me everything there is about the Institute."

Simon shook his head. "I don't know anything."

"Ah, but you do. I have been watching you come and go. I know where it is located, you can't hide it from me. I'm not interested in everyone inside; I am just interested in one girl."

"One girl?"

"Yes. Maybe you know her?"

"I don't know."

The man blinked, a scowl forming on his face. "Bella Swan. Do you know here?"

Simon shook his head. Of course, he knew Bella, but he wouldn't tell this creep that. "I don't know her."

The man made a hmph sound. "You do know her."

"I don't know her." Simon said again. What does this creep want with Bella? I must protect her and the baby.

"Baby?" The man gasped, a rage starting to fill him. He growled and then he bit into Simon's neck, his hand clamping over his mouth so he couldn't scream. The red liquid poured into his mouth, tasting the intoxicating blood of his victim. He suddenly pulled away, the scent of a dog lighting up the area. He dropped Simon to the ground and vanished.

Simon lay on the ground, writhing in pain, his veins like liquid fire. He groaned out, sweat pouring over him. His head throbbed, and his chest tightened. He heard his name being called as he wavered on the edge of consciousness, the fiery pain becoming too great. Finally, he succumbed to the darkness.

October 25th [The Institute]

Simon lay on the bed in the infirmary. Carlisle sighed, looking at Jake. "You didn't get to him in time. He's already started the transition. The venom worked quickly. He should wake any moment now. I can already hear the echoes of the venom rushing through his heart."

Jake closed his eyes, shaking his head. "I know it was him Doc. I know his scent from anywhere."

"He's in South America, it's not possible for him to be here." Carlisle said and looked back at the unconscious Simon. "Has anyone told Bella?" He knew that what Jake said was true. Emmett had not returned his call, which made him worry. Jake picked up Edward's scent, and he shouldn't question a wolf's sense of smell. If Jake said it was him, then it had to be. Even if he didn't want to believe it.

"No. She's in her room sleeping. When I carried him last night she was already in bed. Jace was up and said he would tell both her and Clary in the morning. Clary hasn't made it down yet." Jake said and then looked at his watch. "It's only six."

Carlisle nodded. "Go get some rest. I'll sit with him and ensure that he doesn't get violent. Jasper will be here shortly as well."

Jake hesitated, but took the advice.

When Bella woke up, she rolled over on her side and looked at Jace and smiled. "Morning," She murmured, and Jace looked at her and smiled. He leaned in and kissed her softly. He pulled back, brushing a hand over her face, and to her hair. His smile faltered. "What's wrong?" she asked.

Jace sighed, kissing her forehead, then her nose, then her cheek. "Simon."

Bella shifted, getting to a sitting position. "What's wrong with Simon? Did he say something or do something crazy?"

"He was attacked last night. By a vampire and…he's transitioning right now." Jace explained, his voice soft.

"W-what?" She squeaked out. "He's a vampire? Who attacked him? Has anyone gone to the vampire coven and talked to Raph- "

"It was Edward." Jace interrupted her. "He's not…. he's a cold vampire."

Bella shook her head. "No…. no. Edward…he's in South America."

"Carlisle can't get in touch with Emmett, but he's still trying. Right now, we can only wait. Simon will be okay. He's strong, he will be fine."

"But their kind…they have a hard time with blood lust in the beginning." Bella explained.

Jace nodded. "We know. We have it handled. For now, don't worry or stress. Please." He said and leaned in and kissed her softly again.

Bella took a breath and nodded. Jace was right, of course. She couldn't stress out about this. Simon was strong, he would handle this. It saddened her that he had to endure this. Simon didn't deserve to be thrust into this world like he was.

When Simon woke, he looked around, seeing things clearly without his glasses. His movements felt strange to him, like he was having an out of body experience or something. He looked over at Carlisle. "Doc?"

Carlisle looked at Simon. "Hey, easy. Simon, do you remember anything?"

Simon blinked a few times, looking around the room. "Um. I was leaving Pandemonium. I just got done with my set, and I was pulled into an ally. I was questioned by a vampire…about Bella. I told him I didn't know her, but it was like he could read my thoughts."

"Edward. He made it back to North America. It seems you fell victim to his attack. You're very lucky. Edward can't control his blood lust when he bites a human." Carlisle explained and then flipped through a chart and wrote a few things."

Simon closed his eyes. He could smell something so…delicious, but then he realized that he was a vampire. "Wait. He bit me…I was in a lot of pain. Like my entire body was on fire, my veins were liquifying and burning." He said and held up his hands, looking at them. He was paler than normal. "I'm…"

"You're a vampire," Carlisle nodded. "I'm sorry Simon. Jake didn't get to you in time."

Simon shook his head. "I…" he felt this burning in his throat, and he could suddenly hear flutters of hearts, he covered his ears.

"Block it out, don't focus on the heartbeats." Carlisle said calmly. "Practice."

Jasper appeared in the doorway; his arms crossed as he leaned against the doorframe. "You're awake. Welcome back." He said casually.

Simon looked to Jasper. "Jasper."

"I'm going to take you hunting. Away from the city. My family doesn't eat people, we feed on animals." Jasper explained and Carlisle nodded.

Simon nodded; his eyes wide. "I could never…human blood? I don't…"

"The craving for blood will never go away. It's going to burn in the pit of your stomach daily. We learn to control these urges. Animal blood is an alternative, but it won't fully quench your thirst. It's going to be hard for you staying here at the institute. I suggest you come back to my house, get settled in, and try to work on controlling yourself. We don't want anyone to get hurt here." Carlisle explained.

Simon nodded, still a little shock that he was now a vampire, creature of the night. "Wait…" He sighed. "I'm one of you guys, which means…I can walk in the daytime?"

Jasper tilted his head. "Well. If the sun isn't shining sure because the sun hits our skin and we- "

"Burst into flames?" Simon added.

Carlisle smiled. "Not exactly. The sunlight reflects off our skin differently. It…"

"Sparkles." Jasper finished for Carlisle.

"We sparkle…." Simon said. "Like fairies?"

Jace snorted when he walked in. "No, fairies don't sparkle. They're diabolical, and usually can get anything they want. It's true they can't lie, but that doesn't stop them from bending the truth. They most definitely don't sparkle. What you are is a unicorn Simon. Unicorns are full of glitter."

Jasper chuckled. "Unicorns. We're fucking unicorns now."

Carlisle laughed a bit. "Well, at least we don't burst into flames."

Jace looked back at Simon. "Bella wants to see you, but I told her I would talk to Carlisle, and check on you. I don't come across your kind often, but I do know from the stories I've heard from Jasper, newborns have a hard time controlling blood lust."

Simon shrugged. "I don't know. I mean, I guess I can smell, blood? Or scents? But it's not something that's driving me mad. I don't have this urge to rip anyone's throat out. I would never hurt Bella anyways."

Carlisle's brows furrowed together. "Wait you aren't feeling really thirsty right now?"

"I mean, yes. I'm dying over here. Like water would be great."

"No desire to rip Jace apart?" Jasper asked.

Simon shook his head. "I mean, no. Despite how I feel about Bella, I understand her feelings, and her choosing Jace. I don't hate the guy."

Jace made a hmph sound and smiled. "Thanks, I don't hate you either."

"Well, that's certainly a good start." Jasper said. He looked at Carlisle. "I'll take him to the mountains and hunt for the first time, and then bring him back."

Simon grimaced at the thought of hunting. "I didn't do well when I went hunting with cousins in South Dakota one time, I don't know if I'll- "

Jasper chuckled. "You get used to it."

"Well…you're going to have to teach me everything." Simon said and sighed. He felt that he didn't need to breathe, and it weirded him out a little bit. He looked around the room, noticing that everyone put off some sort of weird…aura. "Do you guys see colors?"

Jasper and Carlisle looked at each other quizzically. "Colors?"

"Yeah, like colors around people. Like auras?"

"No, we don't. Are you seeing auras?" Carlisle asked, standing, and looking at Simon's eyes.

"Well, yeah. You and Jasper are blue, and Jace is like gold or yellow?" Simon said, and looked at Jace. "I mean he has golden eyes, that's probably what I'm just sensing, or seeing, or whatever this is."

Jasper shook his head. "That's actually quite rare. You've discovered a talent quickly. Some people, when they're turned into our kind, have abilities. Like my ability to control the mood around me."

Simon raised a brow. "You mean I can just see auras? No other vampire can do this?"

Carlisle shook his head again. "Not to my knowledge, and I have been around for a long time."

"Hmm." Simon said, surprised. "Well, that's cool. I wonder what Bella's looks like?"

Bella peaked her head in, her eyes connecting with Simon. "Hey," she murmured.

Jace and Jasper both stiffened, but Simon didn't make a move to hurt her.

"Hey," Simon said with a smile. "I'm a vampire, I'm totally weirded out right now, but I'm alive…er. Well, you know." He said and stood. "Her aura matches Jace's." He said looking at Jace. "Both golden…"

Bella was confused. "Auras? You can see auras?"

"Yeah, but yours is slightly different, like yours is mixed a little, I see it somewhat. Silverish blue. Like…. ice?" Simon tried to explain it the best he could.

Carlisle found this interesting. "Bella is pregnant, with Jace's child. The golden aura could be that? It's a new ability. We'll have to research it some. I'll contact a couple friends of mine to see if this is something that is normal. I'll talk with Magnus as well." He said and looked to Bella and smiled. "Glad to see you feeling better. The medicine must be working. I'll be back tomorrow to check in. Jasper," He said and looked at his son. "Take Simon out, teach him to hunt. In the meantime," he looked at Simon. "It's best if you stay at our house for the time being. I'll have Rose prepare a room for you."

Simon nodded, blinking a few times. "Thank you, Doc," he said and then looked back at Jasper. "So, hunting?" He made a face.

Jasper laughed. "It'll be fine." He said and then turned to Bella. He leaned in, kissing her temple. "I'll see you later darling. Alice will be by to check in. I'll take Simon out and take good care of him." He smiled, and Bella hugged him.

"Both of you be careful. If Edward- "

"I know," Jasper said gently, and he left, Simon right behind him. Simon didn't want to test anything with out rigid Jace was looking. He would do this hunting thing and then maybe he'll feel better about him being in the same room as Bella. He understood. He was a newborn vamp now, and if all the stories are true, he should be this blood thirsty monster right now.

Jace sighed as Jasper left with Simon, he went to Bella and pulled her into his arms, kissing the top of her head. "Everything will be alright. I'll find Edward."

Bella closed her eyes. "He tried to kill Simon…. if Jake hadn't…"

"But he was, and Simon…well he's still Simon. Just because he's a vampire now, doesn't mean he's not your friend Bella. Simon is already stronger than most newborns. I was worried about it, but I think that Simon has more control because of how he feels about you."

She sighed. "I know…. thank you. I love you," She murmured and tilted her face up at him, and he leaned in and brushed his lips against hers gently.

[October 27th: Brooklyn Streets]

"There was a sighting last night in this area," Jake said, as he walked with Jasper and Jace.

Jace had been searching for Edward since Simon was turned three nights ago. Simon was doing great with the change, better than some expected, but he was taking it in stride. He hadn't cried or whined about it much, which was a good sign. Carlisle was keeping tabs on him, letting him stay with the Cullen's. "Well, he's probably making circles, trying to follow Bella's scent. We've made sure to keep her inside the Institute since then."

Jasper nodded. "Her scent has dissipated. If I didn't know where she was, then I wouldn't be able to find her through scent alone."

Jake's phone buzzed and he pulled it from his pocket, keeping stride with Jace and Jasper. "Hey Embry."

"Yo, when are you coming back to La Push?"

"Whenever I'm not needed in New York anymore. What's wrong?"

"Well, it's just your dad. He's worried ya know."

"I talked to dad yesterday, he understands. Em, I'll be back, I'll keep you guys in the loop. You know you can hear my thoughts anyways. I'm in the middle of something man, but I'll hit you back later." Jake said and then ended the call.

Jasper nodded. "What's wrong with Billy?"

Jake sighed. "It's nothing really, just Charlie has been over more often, talking about how he hasn't really talked to Bells a lot, and he's bored, and just…hell, worried, I guess? Charlie doesn't know anything about all this stuff, Bells kept the Cullen's identity from him, and well she's kept the wolf secret too. She holds a lot of secrets, and I think Charlie is getting suspicious lately. He is a sheriff after all."

Jasper nodded. "Yeah, Charlie is smart, but Bella doesn't have to keep so many secrets. If she thinks Charlie can- "

Jace interrupted. "Bella has thought about telling her dad about all of this, but she doesn't want to worry him more. He'll fly to New York, and that'll put him in the middle of all this, and she's trying to protect him. Even thought Valentine is her father, Charlie will always remain her dad."

"That makes sense," Jake said after a long pause. The trio stopped outside Pandemonium as they swept back across. Simon was getting ready for his set. Magnus came out to greet the three men.

"Hey Jasper, I've been working on something. I believe it's going to help a lot with your sunlight situation. As much as how marvelous your kind looks in the son, I know that it can be bothersome, so I've come up with a spell that might work. If you want to give it a try?"

Jasper shrugged. "It can't hurt I suppose."

Magnus nodded and the three followed him inside the club and back into a back room. Magnus shut the door. He looked at a book. "I have been reading up on some older warlock spells. If I can rip portals out of thin air, I can make your skin impenetrable by the sun." He said and then set the book down. He went and took a bottle of something and set it down on a small altar. He did something with his hands, magic flowing around, and the bottle illuminated, and then swirled. He picked up the potion and swirled it, mixing it. He inspected it and nodded. "Alright, drink this." He said and handed it to Jasper.

Jasper looked at it. The crimson color was like blood, but it had a swirl of purple to it that intrigued him. He studied it a bit more and then sighed. "If it kills me, my wife will be mighty upset with me." He murmured.

"Don't worry, I'll blame it on Magnus," Jake said with a grin.

Jasper uncorked the bottle and drank it. Closing his eyes as the liquid settled inside. There was no metallic taste like blood had, but it tasted sweet, something that Jasper hadn't tasted in a long time since blood was his primary diet. He felt heat rush through him, to his toes and fingers. No pain, just warmth. His chest tightened, and then he heard the blip of a heartbeat. His eyes flew open and he looked at Magnus. "My heart?"

Magnus nodded. "It worked. Good. I'm going to give some to Simon too. Your eye color seemed to settle on brown, was that always your eye color?"

Jasper frowned. "It worked? Like what did it do to me?"

"It's giving you a human appearance. You're still very much a vampire, just you don't look like one now." Magnus explained.

"My eyes…they were…brown I believe, it's been so long."

Jace and Jake just stood there in shock, staring at Jasper.

"You still need blood, but I don't think eating human food will nauseate you anymore." Magnus said, and was grinning proudly. "There, only the Cullen's and Simon will have access to this. Tell no one about this." He said, pointing a finger at Jasper.

Jasper blinked a few more times. "This is…amazing." He said, looking at his hands.

Once back within the safe walls of the Institute, Jace stalled to take some breaths. Simon watched him. "I'm sorry I didn't get to you sooner."

Jace shook his head. "No. It's fine. I just wasn't expecting the bait to work." He leaned up, taking a deeper breath.

Simon nodded. "Well, it did. Jasper has Edward now, and Em took care of the guy who came at you. I didn't know Edward was working with someone."

"I didn't either, but we managed." Jace said and the elevator opened, and Jasper walked in with Edward restrained, and Emmett right behind him with the vampire that tackled Jace.

Alec walked over. "Take them to cell we've created for them." He ordered and Jasper and Emmett followed instruction, leaving with Edward and the other dark-haired vampire.

Edward's eyes were crimson, his stare deadly, as he stared at Jace and Simon.
