Chapter Seven: Can't Escape
Raina walked into a park, having body-flickered away from her family and team. She could feel the blood lust rising and was starting to shake.Unraveling the bandages on her arms, Raina revealed tons upon tons of scars on her arms. Some silvery and faded, others bright pink and puckered up.
The price I pay… so no one gets hurt… Raina thought as she sat down, leaning against a tree as she pulled a kunai out of her holster that she had on her thigh. Placing the tip of the kunai onto her arm, Raina pulled it across the skin. Wincing in pain only slightly, Raina watched as the blood seep out of the fresh cut that she just gave herself. Leaning her head back against a tree, Raina stared up at the stars as she pulled the kunai across her skin again and again.
"I had hoped you would have stopped that… Coming here…" Gaara said calmly as he used his sand to stop Raina from cutting herself. Raina looked up at Gaara and smiled sadly.
"Even here… I can't escape the hate… I can't escape…" Raina murmured as Gaara took the kunai away from her and put it in her leg holster. He didn't say a word as he listened to her talk, just reached into her tool pouch and pulled out a cloth to wipe the blood up.
"Do they treat you well here?" Gaara asked as he took the white bandages from her lap and wound them around her arms again.
"Hai… except for the girl with the pink hair from earlier… she is so obsessed with Uchiha Sasuke that she will be cruel to anyone who she sees as a threat…"
"Hn."
"I know… you don't care… "
Gaara looked at Raina and sighed. "I only care about you and Temari and Kankuro and me." He stated as he sat across from her and looked at her right eye. "Tell me how it changed recently." Raina sighed and then proceeded to explain what caused her eye to change.
"Something is going to happen during the chunin exams." Raina stated, knowing that something was up. Gaara nodded his head, showing that she was correct. Raina sighed and leaned back against the tree again. "Things are bad as ever at home… aren't they?" Raina asked softly as Gaara shifted so he was sitting next to her.
"Father is still doing assignation attempts. But those are more on missions now then actually in Sunagakure." Gaara replied as he leaned back against the tree as well. "Father said to tell you that you can either be on our team for the Chunin exams or whatever team you are put on here. He's being generous and letting you decide."
"So kind of the ass…" Raina sneered as she sighed and rested her head on his shoulder briefly. She then sat up and looked up at the sky. "What do you think I should do Nii-san?"
"That's for you to decide. I would prefer if you became a Suna shinobi again for the exams but I would hate to take you away from a team that you work well with." Gaara replied as he looked over at his sister. "Do what you think is right." Gaara then stood up and looked down at her. "No more of that stupid shit that you just did. I'll talk to you soon Rain." And with that Gaara disappeared in a whirlwind of sand.
"Hai…" Raina said softly before she got up herself and walked back into market district of Konoha.
"Raina!" Sasuke called out to her when he spotted her. She turned her head to see him walking towards her. "I've been looking for you." Raina sighed and waited until he was right beside her before walking again.
"If it's about the lie… Gomen… It was to protect myself and my family." Raina kept her eyes on the road ahead of them. "I should have known that it would come out sooner or later. With the way Gaara likes to pull me up in the air with his sand."
"It's okay, about the lie… I can understand why you did it… What I wanted to know was what you meant by escaping the hate from Suna." Sasuke replied as he looked at her from the corner of his eye. Raina sighed before motioning for him to follow her and took him to a training ground that is very secluded and almost never used.
"What I'm about to show you does not get told to Kakashi or anyone else." Raina stated as she pulled her black short-sleeved shirt off, turning around at the same time. Sasuke blushed as he watched her but soon his eyes zeroed in on a scar that sat right on her left shoulder. Reaching out he ran his finger tips over the scar.
"The kanji for hate…" Sasuke whispered as he lowered his hand. Raina nodded her head and looked at him from over her shoulder.
"Gaara and I have ran from assignation attempts our whole lives… One day I was running and tripped… I was captured. The man…" Raina spat out as she gritted her teeth. "The man… he had the sick idea of carving hate into my shoulder. 'Now I bare the mark that shows I am the hatred of Suna.' He said… I lost control and blacked out… When I came to, the man was dead and my head was in Gaara's lap while he shouted my name to try and wake me up. I had killed the man because of what he did to me." Raina explained as she pulled her shirt back on. Sasuke turned her around and made her look at him.
"Take what you are given and make it something that you can be proud of. You're a Konoha shinobi now. You are not hated here. Not by me, not by Naruto, not by Kakashi-sensei. Sakura, she may, but who cares what she thinks. What matters is what you think." Sasuke said before he looked down at her arms, seeing the usually pure white bandages spotted red. "What the hell?" Sasuke grabbed her arms and undid the bandages to see blood oozing from fresh cuts among thousands of old scars. "Raina…" Sasuke looked up at her to see her looking away.
"I can't escape… the pain… the hate… the bloodlust that seems to be inside me…" Raina bit her lip to stop herself from crying. "I can't escape…" Sasuke rewrapped the bandages before pulling her into a hug, something very uncharacteristic of him.
"Bitch… you can escape… the pain the hate… all of it, you can escape it. Even if it means coming to someone when you feel the bloodlust or whatever rising." Sasuke softly told her as he held her. "Come to me next time you feel like doing something stupid. I won't judge you…"
"Arigato, Jackass…" Raina trailed off as she sighed, hugging Sasuke back. Knowing that she had someone else to count on besides her twin gave Raina strength.
