[The Institute Christmas: Portland]

Magnus opened a portal for Jace and Bella to Forks to visit her father. After the battle with Valentine and his men on the outskirts, the Institute in Portland, with the help of Magnus, were able to restore order. Magnus took care of Charlie's memory of the demons that made their appearance to him, to make things easier on him, but also Bella.

Bella and Jace arrived at the Portland Institute, and was greeted by Mike Newton.

"Hey Isabella," Mike said with a wide grin.

"Hey Mike," Bella smiled, and stepped forward and hugged Mike.

"Wow, pregnant huh? Boy or girl?" He said, light entering his eyes.

Jace and Bella smiled at each other. "We don't know. We wanted to be surprised." Bella answered.

"She wanted it to be a surprise. I was all for finding out early." Jace said and then looked up at Sebastian as he walked over towards them. They clasped their hands together and gave each other a brotherly hug. "Hey Bast, I thought you were back in London on loan from Jocelyn?"

Sebastian nodded. "I am. I had to come in for some follow-up with Penhallow." He turned his attention to Bella and smiled at her. "How are you feeling, love?"

"Good," she rubbed a hand over her belly. It was hard waking up after Valentine's ascension to the angels. She was asleep for an entire week. That whole week Jace hadn't left her side, not even once. Her phone rang and she pulled it from her pocket. "Oh, it's dad." She said and stepped to the side and answered. "Hey dad."

"Hey Bells, when is your plane landing?" The cheerful voice of Chief Swan sounded in her ear.

"We just landed a while ago. We're in Portland now, we'll see you in an hour." Bella explained.

Charlie was quiet a moment. "I could have picked you and…. Jace up at the airport."

"It's okay. We have a rental. It's okay. I'll see you in a bit okay?"

"Okay kiddo. You two be careful." Charlie said and then he was hanging up.

Bella looked over at Jace. "Well let's get going. I want to make it to Forks before it snows."

Jace looked at Sebastian and Mike. "It was nice seeing you Mike. Bast I'll see you back at home." He said and he walked with Bella outside to a car that was waiting. They started their short drive to Forks.

[Swan Residence]

Jace and Bella pulled up outside her childhood home in the dark grey Mazda 6. Jace got out first and went around and opened Bella's door for her. He helped her out of the car, and then went to the trunk and retrieved the gifts that Alice had helped Bella with. Jake had gone ahead of time to see Billy, and Billy's beat up truck was sitting in the driveway, which meant that Jake and his dad were also here.

They walked up to the little porch and then the door opened, and Jake was standing there. He grinned. "Hey Bells, Jace." Jake announced loudly and then stepped aside and let them in.

Bella was a bit nervous about seeing her dad, especially since she was nearing 30 weeks on her pregnancy already and looked like she was a whale, even though Jace told her that she was beautiful every single day.

Charlie looked at his daughter and Jace. He smiled going to her and hugging her, and then looking down. He was stunned. "Oh Bells…" he murmured.

Bella looked at her dad, she reached out and touched his face, and smiled. "Merry Christmas Grandpa."

Tears came to Charlie's eyes, as a bright smile lit up his face, and he leaned down and kissed her temple. "Grandpa huh…" He reached a hand down on her belly. He felt a small kick, and he gasped.

"Pretty cool?" Bella asked, tears coming to her eyes as well.

"I love you so much kiddo. I'm so happy for you." Charlie murmured and brought his daughter into his arms once more. He kissed the top of her head and then looked at Jace, who had been standing there silently. He knew that Bella was pregnant, but it was hard to imagine it until he saw her. "Agent Wayland." Charlie said with a smile.

"Chief Swan," Jace said with a smile. "Please call me Jace. I'm not on duty." He said with a smile.

Charlie nodded. "Jace," he said and smiled. He walked over to him and pulled Jace into a hug. Charlie was not normally an affectionate person, but he was happy that his Bella was happy. "Thank you for making her happy. Take real good care of her, and that baby of yours."

Jace was taken back by the hug, but hugged Charlie back and then smiled. "Of course, Charlie." Billy rolled his chair over to Bella, and she leaned down and hugged Billy, kissing his cheek.

Billy smiled brightly at Bella. "It's so good to see you again Bella," he said and hugged her, rubbing a hand over her belly for good luck. "I believe you are carrying a girl." He said.

Jace smiled, and then looked at Jake. They fist bumped and stood next to each other. "You coming back to New York after the holidays?"

Jake nodded. "Yeah, I'm leaving after New Years to head back up."

Charlie turned and looked at Jake. "You've been traveling to New York?"

"Yeah, I've been- "

Billy interrupted. "He's studying in New York with Bella." He said with a smile.

Charlie nodded, smiling, slapping Jake on the back. "Congrats then. I didn't know. I figured you rez boys stayed on the rez."

Jake smiled. "Nope. Not all of us. My sister went away to college too. There's been a few of us that venture out. I plan on joining the FBI or something like it." He winked at Jace.

Jace smiled. "Well, you're an outstanding character Jake. We'll be lucky to have you one day. Finish your studies first."

Charlie smiled. "Good man," he said and then the festivities began. The five of them celebrated. Opening gifts and laughing. It was a cheerful time for Bella. She was so relaxed and happy that she was able to spend the holiday with her dad. The one that raised her anyways. She rubbed a hand over her belly, as the baby kicked hard, reminding her of its presence. She couldn't wait for it to get here. Billy thought she was having a girl, but she was so sure it was a boy.

The night came to an end, and Bella and Jace retired upstairs in her own room. Her bed had been replaced with a full-size bed, which was better than the twin that used to be in here.

"You look so amazingly happy," Jace commented, walking over to her and framing her face with his hands, before leaning in to kiss her.

"Mmm. Well, I'm just happy that my dad likes you." Bella said and kissed him again.

"Well, I'm a likeable person." Jace murmured against her lips. He then just drew her in close, letting her head rest against his chest as he just stood there with her like that. "Marry me Bella."

Bella pulled back and looked at him. "What?"

"You heard me," he said with a grin. "Marry me."

She shook her head. "Jace, you don't have to do this just because I'm pregnant."

"I'm not doing this because you're pregnant. I want to marry you. I love you. I want a family with you. I know that our jobs are hard, but I just want you in my life forever, and I want you to feel the same way."

"I do feel the same way." She said, her voice softening. "I love you Jace, and there's nothing in this world that will change that. Marriage is just a little piece of paper. It's not necessarily something that has to be done. I don't have to be married to you to be with you forever."

Jace nodded. "That's true."

"But…" she paused. "If it's something that means a lot to you, then I will marry you." She said with a smile.

He smiled back at her, leaning in, and kissing her gently. "Of course. It would mean the world to me."

She nodded. "Then the answer is yes, yes I will marry you Jace Wayland."

He kissed her hard, the excitement rising in him. He was as happy as he could be. Bella was the love of his life. He didn't have to hide who he was from her, and she didn't have to hide herself from him either. If someone told him last year that he would meet his soulmate, fall in love, and then have a baby and get married, he would have thought that they were insane. But here he was, with a woman that no one could compare to.

They got ready for bed, laying beside each other, as he drew circles over her belly. A few kicks at his hand, made him smile as his son or daughter played with him. He couldn't wait to be a father. It wasn't something that he had ever really truly thought about before. He didn't think that he would ever have kids because of his line of work, but now that he was, he couldn't wait for he or she to get here, and then to have more. It was exciting and breathtaking.

When morning came, Jace was up first. He left Bella sleeping in the bed and ventured downstairs. Charlie was sitting in the kitchen reading the newspaper and drinking coffee. He glanced up at Jace. "Oh, good morning."

Jace smiled and nodded. "Mind if I have some coffee?"

"Of course. Help yourself." Charlie motioned with his hand.

Jace fixed himself some coffee, something that was an acquired taste for him because he preferred tea.

"Sleep okay? I got a bigger bed last week because I figured the twin wouldn't fit you and her on it." Charlie said simply.

Jace nodded. "It was fine. Bella hogs all the covers, but I'm used to that." He said with a smile.

Charlie smiled and set down his paper. "Have you asked her to marry you?"

"I did. I realize I should have asked you first and –"

Charlie shook his head, holding up a hand to stop him. "I'm not that old fashioned Jace. My daughter is capable of making those sorts of decisions."

Jace nodded, looking down at his coffee. "I truly love her Charlie. I know that…my job seems dangerous…"
"I understand." Charlie said, his voice soft. "I'm a cop. It is dangerous. Not as dangerous as MI6 or the FBI, but I do understand. You'll do everything to keep her and that baby safe."

"Yes. They're my entire world. When I met her…I don't think I have ever known such love. I knew instantly from the moment my eyes landed on her, that she would become a significant part of my life. "Jace said with a smile.

"Good. Now did she say yes?"

Jace nodded again, smiling. "She did."

Charlie smiled and picked up his coffee. "Well alright then. Just let me know when the date is, and when I need to be in appearance to walk her down the aisle."

Bella had woken up to an empty bed beside her. She got up, using the bathroom before she headed down the stairs. She got a little dizzy suddenly and eased herself down on the stair she was standing on. Some pains were happening from her back that spread to the front. It was an even pain, tolerable, but still took her breath away initially. "Jace," she managed to get out.

Charlie and Jace both appeared at the stairs and Jace went to her first. "Did you fall?"

She shook her head, the pain easing up a little. She took in a breath. "I got dizzy and sat down. I can't get back up."

Jace helped her to her feet, and she leaned into him as pain radiated through her again. She grit her teeth, and Jace then just picked her up with ease and brought her to the chair in the living room and sat her down. He pulled out his cellphone and dialed Carlisle immediately.

Charlie went to sit beside her. "Honey? Are you okay?"

"Pain just practice contractions probably," she breathed out in response.

Jace hung up the phone. "Carlisle is in Forks. He said he'll be here in a few moments."

"You didn't have to call Carlisle. I'm fine." She insisted, but a wave of nausea rolled over her and she got flushed suddenly.

Jace knelt beside her looking up. "Bella, you have to listen to me. You're flushed, dizzy, and in pain. Your blood pressure is probably up. Uncross your legs, relax, and take some slow deeper breaths." He said calmly.

Charlie watched Jace silently, as Jace handled this in stride. Carlisle was there in about ten minutes, and Jace went and opened the door. Carlisle came inside, shrugging off his coat. "Bella," Carlisle called as he came into the living room. He had a medical bag with him. He leaned crouched down in front of her, his slender fingers on one hand went to her wrist as he checked her pulse. He didn't need to check her pulse this way, but this was for Charlie's benefit. "Your pulse is a bit rapid. I'm going to check your blood pressure. Have you eaten anything this morning?"

Jace shook his head. "She just woke up. She was coming down the stairs when she said she got dizzy and sat down." He explained for her because he could see the pain on her face. "Carlisle she's having contractions. Every five minutes." He said, glancing at his watch.

"This isn't normal, I'm assuming." Charlie said more like a statement, concern filling his voice.

Carlisle removed the blood pressure cuff. "Your blood pressure is higher than I would like. Bella let's get you in to check on you. I still have privileges at the hospital here."

Bella shook her head. "It's not necessary. I'm okay." She said as the pain eased up.

Carlisle stiffened a little, and Jace took note. "No, Bella. You really need to get to the hospital now."

Bella frowned, seeing the wide concern in Carlisle's eyes and nodded. She stood, feeling a wet trickle on her leg. She was wearing dark pajama pants, but that concerned her. The metallic smell hit the air, and then she suddenly understood the change in Carlisle's demeanor.

Jace got her carefully loaded into the car, and Charlie went out and got into the cruiser, and they went on to the hospital.

Carlisle got her checked in, and a nurse on his service to help with things. There wasn't a lot of blood, but it was enough to concern Carlisle. He ordered an ultrasound, and the tech rolled the machine into the private room that he put her in. He whirled the machine to life and took the probe and rolled it over Bella's belly. "Hmm. Baby is a little distressed. The heartrate is elevated." He said and swirled the wand around and frowned.

Jace looked at the monitor, his arms crossed as he studied the images. He pointed. "This wasn't on the other scans." He murmured.

Bella and Charlie looked over at Carlisle and Jace, both anxious to find out what was going on. "What's wrong with him?" Bella asked, her eyes watering.

Jace looked over at her and offered a small smile. "Babe, it's okay. She's okay. They're…both okay."

Carlisle nodded. "Elevated heartrate. Bella, I know this isn't what we caught on earlier scans, but it appears there are two babies instead of one. It's rare to miss this, but there are twins."

Bella's mouth dropped open. "What?"

Jace nodded and looked at the monitor again. "One is smaller than the other. Is that normal?"

Carlisle nodded. "It can be, but we need to deliver them today. See this," He pointed to the monitor and Jace looked. "The cord to baby A, the one with the elevated heartrate, is collapsed. She's not getting enough oxygen, and it's imperative we get her out now. I can't deliver one without the other." He said and looked at Bella. "Everything is going to be okay. Baby A is 3 pounds, and the other Baby B, is 2 pounds and five ounces according to this, but it may vary. Do you want me to induce labor and you try to do this naturally, or would you prefer a C-section?" They had spoke about birthing options, and Bella wasn't a fan of being put under for any sort of surgery if she didn't have to.

"What are the risks?" She asked, stunned a little that her one baby was now two, and now they were going to be born today.

"Well, they will need to be in NICU for a while before they could be sent home. I would say probably about five weeks at least. If we don't deliver now, you could lose one or both. So it's important to deliver them today."

Bella nodded. "What are the risks with the C-section versus the latter?"

Carlisle nodded. "Right now, the heartrate is elevated but it could drop down significantly and stress the baby out before she is born if we take the natural route. If we do the C-section, I can get them both out in seconds, and reduce the stress on both twins. I would recommend the C-section. But I want you to make your own choice."

Bella nodded. She looked at Jace, and his hand found hers. "C-section. Um…do I have to be put under?"

"Well, we could do a spinal tap and have you awake during the surgery. I can have an anesthesiologist come in and place the tap." Carlisle explained.

Bella nodded. "Yes. I don't…want to be asleep for this."

Carlisle nodded, and left, going to write out the order. Leaving the three of them together.

Bella blew out a breath. "This is happening." She said and placed a hand on her belly. "It felt like two in there kicking me and jabbing me. I guess…I was right." She said with a small smile, but she was terrified. She was so scared of something going wrong.

Jace's phone rang and he answered it quickly. "Slow down. Magnus. What?"

"Jake called me and told me that Bella is in labor. Alec and Clary are on their way to the hospital in Forks." Magnus relayed again.

"When did Jake find out?"

"I called him." Charlie admitted. "Jake is her best friend, and last night we were talking about everything and."

Jace nodded. "I forgot to call Jake on the way here." He sighed. "Thank you, Magnus. Is Jake on his way too?"

"He is. He's grabbing Alec and Clary from the Institute there." Magnus relayed.

"Thanks," he hung up and looked at Bella. "Good news, Alec, Clary, and Jake are on their way."

Bella smiled. "That's so good. I was actually worried they wouldn't be here for the birth of their nephew…well niece, and…wait…"

"Niece and Nephew. Boy/girl twins," He said with a smile.

Charlie was confused who Alec and Clary were. "Who are Alec and Clary?"

Jace looked at Bella, a knowing look. "Alec is my brother and- "

There was a knock on the door before it cracked open and Clary peaked in, Alec and Jake behind her.

Charlie looked up at the strangers that accompanied Jake. A man, with dark hair and blue eyes, and the girl with red hair and emerald eyes.

Alec went and hugged Jace. He then went over to Bella and smiled at her. "So, you're having this baby early."

Bella smiled up at her brother. "I am."

Clary was just bouncing with excitement. "Oh, I just can't wait, but I'm also scared. It's super early." She looked at Jace. "Where's Carlisle?"

"He went to get the anesthesiologist." Jace answered.

Alec nodded and leaned down and kissed the top of Bella's head. "You got this. You're strong and fierce. I'm super proud of you."

Charlie watched the exchange. He glanced over at Jace, who was calm about the situation and then looked back at his daughter who was smiling brightly at Alec and Clary. He cleared his throat. "Well, I'm going to step out to get some fresh air, call Renee and let her know what's going on."

Bella nodded, looking at her dad. "Thank you, dad." She offered a small smile.

Charlie smiled back at her. "No problem kiddo." He said and stepped out.

Clary looked at her sister after Charlie had left. She smiled. "So, your dad doesn't know anything about Alec and I. What's the story?"

"Alec is my brother." Jace said.

Alec nodded and looked at Clary. "Then Clary is or cousin." He winked and smiled.

Carlisle knocked on the door and walked in with a burlier looking man with him, who had dark hair, and dark eyes. He was smiling. "This is Robert, he'll do your spinal tap, and then we'll bring you back to the operating room." He looked at Jace. "Jace can suit up and get ready to be in there if that's what you both want."

Jace and Bella looked each other and nodded. "Of course."

Once the spinal tap was in place, Carlisle had the nurse wheel Bella down to the OR, and Jace followed along, dressing in the PPE that was required before entering the sterile environment.

Bella was nervous. She was only 30 weeks, or at least 30 weeks in a couple days. She felt like the babies were just too small, but Carlisle assured her that they would be okay. He even gave her steroids to help.

Carlisle moved fast, cutting into her, and pulling the first baby out, a girl. The nurse took the tiny little life and carried it quickly to a sterile table and was cleaning her up. Small cries were heard as she took in a couple short breaths, and then the nurse was hooking up machines to her and getting her into a clear box, that Carlisle had told her would be necessary.

Jace's golden eyes followed their daughter as the nurse wheeled her to the side, so Bella and Jace could see.

"She's 3 pounds, 4 ounces. She's really quite large for a preemie." The nurse commented and smiled. "We're going to take her to NICU now. We will keep you both updated."

Bella let a few tears fall down her cheek, and Jace reached over and wiped it gently. "Shh. It's okay. She's okay."

Carlisle pulled the other twin out, and the nurse grabbed his tiny body very gently, and took him over to the table. There was suctioning, and the time seemed to pass by slowly, but Bella and Jace heard a tiny intake of breath, and then a tiny little cry, barely audible. The nurses moved quickly with him, getting him on the vent, and putting him in the incubator like his sister. "Two pounds, 7 ounces." The nurse called and Carlisle nodded. He worked quickly, getting Bella put back together with little complication.

Jace leaned down, putting his forehead to hers. "I love you." He murmured and she nodded, tears sliding her face again.

"I love you too." She said and then Jace went to the NICU to check on things with the twins.

Carlisle did some finishing touches. "You did great Bella. Susan here is going to take you back to recovery before bringing you to your room. I'll go out and talk to Charlie and your brother and sister okay?"

Bella nodded, understanding. "Thank you," she murmured, and watched him leave. Susan was friendly enough, getting her back in recovery, where they gave her some heavy-duty pain meds and she fell asleep.

The next few weeks were rough. Bella and Jace stayed in Washington, there in Forks until the twins would be strong enough to come home. Charlie didn't mind having Bella back for an extended stay, and even didn't mind that Alec frequented over the next few weeks, as did Clary.

"Eulaila and Ezra." Bella mentioned.

Jace and her had been going through names. They didn't want to just rush to name them. "Hmm. Eulaila is pretty. Ezra…I'm not crazy about."

Bella shrugged. "Ethan?"

Jace snorted. "No. Elijah?"

Bella shook her head. "No." She sighed. "Ezra really just goes with Eulaila though."

"Emery." Jace said, looking up from the baby name book he was reading.

"Emery?" Bella said and then tried it out. "Jonathan Emery Wayland." She said out loud.

Jace raised a brow. "Jonathan huh?"

"Well it is technically your name." Bella pointed out.

"I know." Jace smiled. "But it's also your brother's name."

"Oh…well…" she sighed. "Emery Alexander." She said with a bright smile.

"There it is." Jace nodded. "That's it. That's perfect."

Bella grinned. "It is perfect. Eulaila Claribelle Wayland."

Jace nodded and then walked over to Bella, who was sitting on the old couch in Charlie's living room and leaned in and kissed her gently. He smiled. "Eulaila Claribelle and Emery Alexander. Beautiful names my love."

Bella grinned. "Really? I can't wait to tell Alec, Iz, and Clary."

[The Institute: Brooklyn, New York February 6th]

Jace carried Eulaila in her little pink and grey car seat carrier off the elevator with Alec behind him with Emery. They were being upgraded to a different level of the institute that had a better set up for young children before Bella left to go to Idris with the twins. Or that was what the initial plan was, but Bella wasn't liking the idea that well, and wanted to live in New York still. It was a work in progress because of the Clave rules.

Bella was carrying diaper bags with Clary's help, and Iz was carrying a box of things, while Simon and Jake carried in other random baby items, like swings and a pack-n-play.

Jocelyn greeted them. "Welcome back home guys." She said with a big smile.

Clary looked at her mom, smiling. "I'm an aunt!"

Jocelyn chuckled. "You are, and you'll be the best aunt ever."

"Hey!" Iz said, butting in with a smile. "I am going to spoil them both more than Clary can."

Clary snorted. "I don't doubt it." She grinned wide.

Alec set the carrier down with Emery, who was just over five pounds now. He was officially six weeks old today, and the cutest little thing. He had dark hair like Bella, but his eyes were golden like Jace's. Eulaila mirrored her brother's looks, except one of her eyes seemed to have a brighter glow to them somehow.

Jocelyn wanted to look at the twins and walked over and crouched down to where Jace and Alec set them down. She smiled brightly at them. She reached a slender hand out and touched Emery's hand. "They're beautiful and perfect Jace, and Bella." She murmured.

Bella smiled. "You want to hold them?"

Jocelyn looked up at her surprised. "Can I?"

"Of course." Jace said, looking over at Bella smiling.

Jocelyn unfastened Emery from his car seat and carefully drew him out. She cradled him carefully and stood up with him. He was so tiny. "So little…" she said and just looked down into Emery's golden eyes. "You will be strong. Probably the strongest Nephilim I've ever seen."

Jace smiled. "Of course, he will be." He winked and smiled over at Bella, before slipping his arm around her waist, drawing her close to him. He kissed the side of her head and looked at Jocelyn holding his son. He knew that she longed for her own son, the one that was banished to the angels, and it wasn't something that she would easily get over.

Alec unfastened Eulaila and took her out of her seat and cradled her gently in his arms. He was already the best uncle. He was the Godfather of these two precious beings, while Clary was the Godmother. Alice flitted into the room suddenly, clasping her hands together. "Alright! It's ready!"

Magnus was close behind her as he waltzed in after helping Alice fix up the third floor, he sauntered over and leaned over Alec's shoulder, looking at Eulaila. He smiled at her, her golden eyes peering up at Magnus. He leaned his head against Alec's and then kissed his cheek. Alec smiled, tilting his head, and capturing Magnus' lips in a quick kiss before turning and looking back at Eulaila.

Jace was content. He had a family, something that he struggled with all his youth. He had Bella; the woman he never knew he was looking for until he found her.

Bella was the happiest she could ever be as well. After experiencing crushing heartbreak, she discovered that she could love again. Even though Jace came into her life at a point of change and new, she wouldn't ask for anything different. It was her happy ever after.
