One hour...One long and dreadful hour. News station managed to broadcast on radios and any TVs' announcing the situation but it was one hour too late. It seemed to start in Northern America, The CDC had kept whatever the virus is under wraps and classified. The workers begin to catch the virus and a cure wasn't found.
The virus attacks the nervous system and causes some kind of seizure as the brain begins to rewire. The intense seizure kills the victim, but whatever happens inside the brain causes the said victim to rise from the dead and attack the living. No one was aware of what is happening until the first case rose in Japan.
It evolved so much from that point it only took a matter of seconds to turn them into the flesh-eating freaks. Now, all it tool was one singular bite to any part of the body to become one of them.
Within an hour a once high energetic city was now nothing but chaos and bloodshed. Mei couldn't believe how fast it happened as she stared off at the city that was burning down to nothing. She can feel the end was happening and everyone she loved and hated now were nothing more than mind dead freaks who only want to eat the living.
"Mei" She looked over and saw Yoshi walking upholding his Kendo stick with a serious expression on his face.
She was glad she managed to find him when she did.
(Z-Day 10:34 AM. 20 minutes after the Infection)
Mei ran as fast as she could down the hall with the ganguro girl who she discovered her name being, Saika Miyashita. Mei could feel the pounding in her chest as she ran down the hall that was currently infested with freaks. She was glad Saika finally decided to stop screaming because now every student it seemed was a freak.
Coming to the break in the stairwell she panted softly and looked around at her surroundings. The first/ground floor was currently swarming with them and being held up in the classroom didn't last long thanks to Saika. Mei needed to see just how bad it was, and if it was the whole city or the school.
"Mei" Saika whispered looking at her as her makeup seemed a little smudged from the sweat dripping off of her.
"What baka!" She snapped making Saika frown a bit but took a deep breath knowing now wasn't the time to argue.
"Look I'm sorry but I saw my boyfriend and he was being eaten I wanted to get them away from him" She mumbled softly looking at her feet but Mei just scoffed.
"That 'boyfriend' of yours was a cheat and honestly only used you cause you were easy" She mumbled softly as she walked up to the second floor as Saika stood shocked.
"He wouldn't! He loved me!" She shouted making Mei groan agitated.
"Why won't you women understand! Men don't love us they-" She gasped as a freak came from behind Saika and bit into her arm making her scream out in pure agony.
"SAIKA!" Mei was fast on her feet as she quickly drove the pointed end of her weapon into the skull of the freak watching as its teeth released from her arm and fell to the ground. Saika whimpered holding her arm as she stared at the freak of nature.
"Come on" Mei helped Saika up," Your scream surely attracted more of them" She mumbled leading the way for them to rush to the second floor in hopes of some kind of living person.
Leading her to the nearest classroom away from the horde ahead of them. Closing the door silently Saika stumbled to the seat and sat down taking deep breaths. Her body shivered as it seemed the infection was already spreading.
"Saika we need to get to the roof," Mei said softly as she turned looking at her and noticed Saika was already sweating from the infection. It was a matter of time before Saika became one of those freaks. She just couldn't bring herself to abandon her though.
"I-I don't know how you plan on getting out of the classroom," She said through gritted teeth as Mei noticed the freaks pounding on the door. Mei cursed herself for stopping; she would have been better off just to keep pushing.
"Mei?" She looked at Saika as she pointed to the janitor's closet with a shaking hand.
"M-Maybe there is a weapon there you can use," She said coughing a bit behind her hand. Mei made her way to the closet opening it when she noticed a few things she can use. Her eyes settled on an old school broom that was usually connected with a nail. If she could break it the right way she will have a sharp end.
Stepping on the broom she tugged the handle successfully drawing it from the sweeper with the nail sticking out. Saika was impressed by Mei's quick thinking and stood up as she stumbled to the window.
"It's so bad…" She said shocked by the sight of burning buildings and blood flooding the once clean streets.
"Let's just worry about now" Mei flung a book bag full of supplies she gathered from the closet on her back and closed the door.
"Do you plan on taking them all out now?" She asked Mei as the black-haired teen walked to the door holding her weapon.
"Yeah...The only way out unless I want to do the coward route" She said hand on the door handle prepared to slam the door open until the sound of thuds and bodies disappearing from the door was heard.
"Anyone in there?" A voice called to her as Mei and Saika looked at one another in surprise.
Mei slid the door open slightly and saw her classmate Yoshihisa standing there with a few members of the kendo club dispatching and freaks getting too close. Yoshi looked down at Mei and a sense of relief flooded him slightly.
"Mei? Glad to see a familiar face not trying to eat mine off" He said as Mei scoffed but the smirk on her face was an indication that she was actually happy to see him. She turned seeing Saika worried face making Mei sigh.
"Come on we have a small group on the roof," He said and looked over Mei's shoulder at Saika seeing her bite.
"You know-"
"I know...Let's just get her somewhere else before we actually do it" Mei mumbled walking past him as Yoshi turned to Saika who shyly looked at the ground her hand over the bite mark.
"Let's go," He said leading the group with the addition of Mei and Saika to the roof.
As they got to the third floor she saw a handful eliminating any freaks who walked through the hallway. The kendo members began to run and help as Yoshi continued to lead the two girls up the roof where she noticed a few of the people who sat in the shade were Yoshi younger brothers.
"Right now we are waiting to see if any help will come" He explained as Mei looked around at the city.
"Toshi here says that one of the military kids who helped him out said his father said something about a rescue team so hopefully here soon we will be able to wave them down.
"A military rescue team? I don't think they will stop for a few high-schoolers...Maybe political members but not us" Mei mumbled crossing her arms as she saw a few living students run to the buses.
"Idiots…" She hissed softly as she watched them get on the bus and drive off around the school.
"You don't think they will?" She looked over her shoulder at his youngest brother who just started high-school Iehisa. His unusually slicked-back brown hair was messed up and shaggy.
"I don't know honestly...They might but we will possibly be last on their list" She said as Yoshi looked at her evaluating her stance. Usually, she was tense and always so quiet but now she seemed a little more relaxed but still alert about everything.
"Hey wait!" Mei looked around suddenly catching the group's attention.
"You missing a brother" She announced making Yoshi sigh shaking his head.
"No no he is here...Problem is he said he had to find someone…" Yoshi coughed trying to hide that fact his idiot brother ran back into the school somewhere to find Mei.
Mei raised an eyebrow confused but shrugged looking to Saika who sat by herself shaking. Yoshi turned to look at her as well frowning. He knew he couldn't comfort Mei due to her lack of trust in men but seeing the conflicted look on her face made him reach out and touch her shoulder making her gasp and flinch away.
"Sorry, y-you looked like you needed some kind of support" He mumbled softly making Mei eye him suspiciously.
"Saika...When was she bit?" He asked her making her sigh.
"Twenty or so minutes ago" She saw the worried cross his eyes but he nodded.
"You'll have to do it soon...You know this" He mumbled softly walking away from Mei who walked at sat next to Saika who was struggling to breathe a bit and coughing blood up.
"Saika…" She looked to the girl who not long ago was bullying her.
"I don't want to be one of them" She shuddered making Mei sigh softly looking up at the bright sky.
The silence was peaceful until the door opened and Katsu walked through with a nervous look on his face. He quickly moved over to Yoshi whispering to him. Mei noticed and watched as Yoshi glared down at his younger brother as Katsu silently defended himself.
"NO!" Yoshi suddenly screamed until a giggle was heard and walking through the door was a very beautiful woman with flowing pink hair and thin shaped blue eyes. She looked like a beautiful snake and like a snake comes a powerful strike.
"Hello, Yoshi...Glad to see you alive" She said with a shrug as Yoshi glared at her with hatred in his eyes.
"Leave now" Toshi looked at Keiko and grinned as he stood running to her and engulfed her thin form in his arms burying his face in her neck.
"Thank goodness" He mumbled as Keiko frowned a bit at his wavering voice as she hugged him back.
Yoshi snarled but saw the confused look on Mei's face that made him go quiet and turn away from the group. Now obviously wasn't the time but he swore that Keiko would not be in their group for very long.
"Now then, Word is that the military made a base in the next city over" Keiko started pulling out her phone as she scrolled through her friends' messages.
"Says here the base is fortified the only issue is the bridge is closed due to the mass number of freaks." She said as the group looked at one another waiting for someone to say anything.
"Anyway there?" Yoshi spoke up as Keiko looked at him and shook her head.
"No way from a car...Maybe a boat?" She suggested as Yoshi looked to his brothers who all nodded.
"The nearby docks might have a boat...Just got to get there and from what I can tell the buses are gone" Iehisa mentioned as he stood among his brothers and the girls.
"Maybe we can jack one of those concert buses?" Kazu suggested making Keiko roll her eyes.
"I don't think there were any concerts nearby," She said as hummed realizing she was right about that. She snapped her fingers a thing she does when thinking.
"Got it!" She smirked making Yoshi look to Keiko.
"The kendo club had their own bus off in the back! You must have the key!" She said as Yoshi patted his pockets and cursed realizing he must have left them in the club room.
"I do but it is in my locker in the kendo club building," He said as Saika finally spoke up.
"Could we be able to access the keys?" She asked as she saw everyone was now getting gears turning.
"Yeah I can get them no sweat," He said as Mei stepped up," You'll need back up," She said as Yoshi looked at her and nodded.
"Then let's get out this shit hole" Yoshi turned to Keiko and glared at her.
"Don't think this clears your slate" He said as Keiko just smirked up at him.
"Never dreamed it would," She said as she turned walking to Toshi as she sat on his lap her blue eyes staring daggers into Yoshi who scoffed at his brother's taste in women.
Mei ignored the drama behind her and crouched down to Saika level who now was struggling to stay up.
"Saika?" She looked up at Mei with a smile.
"I don't think I'll make it" She coughed more blood as her skin looked more grey and veiny. Mei sighed softly and reached down moving her hair from her sweat-drenched forehead.
"It's time Saika...You need to be put to rest" She said softly Saika smiled and nodded slightly.
"Okay…" Mei stood up pointing the nail to Saika's head. The girl looked at her and whimpered softly.
"I'm sorry for a-all I did Mei...Y-You are really pretty and I wish we could have been friends" She mumbled softly as Mei drove the nail into Saika head ending her life peacefully.
"We were friends…."
