Plot: Sesshoumaru returns home, hoping to see a familiar face.
The afternoon was warm when a black SUV pulled up the long driveway. The non-descript vehicle stopped by the front door of the manor style home, the door opened and a tall male in military fatigues stepped out from the passenger side, hoisting a duffle before closing the door. The vehicle drove off and the silver haired male started up the stairs to his family home.
The door opened just as he reached it and he was enveloped in a fierce hug before he could even get his greeting out. The piney scent of his father surrounded him as the older male patted his back happily.
"Touga, at least let him come inside, he's been traveling for a while." A female voice reprimanded from behind them and the older silver haired male grumbled before letting his son go. Both males stepped inside the house to see the rest of the family waiting for them.
"It is good to have you back, Sesshoumaru." A petite woman said, giving the taller man a much shorter hug.
"It's good to be back, I worried they wouldn't approve my leave in time." The male said, dropping his forgotten bag just inside the doorway. He knew the butler would have it brought to his room. Right now, he was going to spend time with his family, he hadn't seen them in a while.
He'd been in the Air Force for years now, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant and was working and biding his time to be promoted to Technical Sergeant. With that promotion we would be able to move back closer to home and would be around more. He was an inu and they were pack creatures by nature, so it felt good to be able to come home.
The silver haired male took in the scents of home and his pack, his shoulders sagging unconsciously in comfort. Here he didn't have to be Staff Sergeant Taisho, he didn't have to be stoic, controlled and commanding. Here at home, he could just be normal.
As he was led to the sitting room, a faint scent of jasmine teased his nose. Looking around, his heart jumped hoping to catch a glimpse of the woman who held that scent.
"She ain't here." His younger brother commented, noticing his distraction.
"Yeah, yeah. I just missed her." Sesshoumaru muttered, returning his attention to his father and stepmother.
He hid his disappointment well; he had been hoping that this would be the visit where he would see her. 'Kagome.' He thought. She was the one woman he couldn't get out of his mind. They had been friends in high school, and he thought the world of her, his beast had long since decided that she was the one for them. It had only been more insistent after the summer before they left for university.
They had gone on a date and ended up spending the night together because of a random rainstorm. They had cuddled and admitted to hidden feelings and then spent the rest of the night in each other's arms.
They hadn't pushed for a relationship because a few days after they both went off to different colleges, he enlisted during his first year away and they lost touch. It was one of his biggest regrets, because whenever he came home with the hope to see her, she had either stayed at school, gone to visit other relatives or she left before he came. He found out about her life through friends and family.
Blue eyes flashed in his mind, she was beautiful and intelligent. Her hair was a black as a raven's wing, the last photo his brother snuck him, showed that it grew past the middle of her back now. Her bangs were always unruly, he wouldn't mind running his fingers through the raven strands. She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.
He zoned into the conversation as they spoke about his welcoming dinner, he rolled his eyes, tired of always telling them that they didn't need to have any special events to mark his homecoming, he was just happy with the normalcy that home provided.
The front door opened, halting conversation and the most calming scent tantalized his nose.
"Uncle Touga, I brought your favourite." A melodic voice called, a petite woman walked in and nudged the door closed behind her with her hip. Her arms were laden with pastry boxes.
"Kagome!" Touga greeted the young woman, running to her side trying to peek into the boxes in question. "You really shouldn't have."
"When Auntie Izayoi phoned and said we were celebrating, I felt inspired to bake." She smiled, turning towards the living room to greet everyone else. She froze with a gasp.
Sesshoumaru found himself standing before he even knew he moved. He could do nothing but stare. There she was, standing within feet of him. Was the air around her glowing? Was she always this radiant?
"Kagome." He whispered, fighting to keep his mouth from falling open in shock. He really hadn't expected to see her.
"Sesshoumaru!" She greeted, a blushing smile on her lips as she squeezed the boxes to keep them from slipping out of her numb fingers. Thankfully Touga, seeing her predicament, gently took the boxes from her and gleefully went to the kitchen. Izayoi and InuYasha followed quietly, Izayoi sighing and smiling in happiness and InuYasha smirking.
They had all known about how hopelessly in love the two were and how unlucky they had been. Kagome was a beloved friend of the family, they all considered her a daughter and sister. It made Izayoi's heart ache every homecoming when she had to impart the news that he had just missed the girl in question. He never asked for her contact information, she never understood why until InuYasha hinted that Sesshoumaru had wanted to reunite with her first. She swooned internally at the thought.
Kagome watched as the Youkai walked towards her, his golden eyes were warm, and she felt the tingle of butterflies in her belly. Remembering that night, they shared so long ago. Yeah, she had had a relationship or two since, but it never worked out because she couldn't stop thinking and comparing them to the demon before her.
She felt stupid, it had been years, he couldn't possibly still have any feelings for her. He was so attractive, he could have any female he wanted, why would he settle for a woman he hadn't seen in years.
"Kagome, it's been a while." He murmured, suddenly feeling unsure. It had been so long, he wondered if he fell for the idea of them together, since it seemed like they'd never see each other again. He could hear her heart thundering in her chest and wondered if it matched the pace of his own, this was a good sign, right?
"It's been forever, am I still allowed to call you Sesshou or am I relegated to Staff Sergeant?" She teased, cursing when her voice got breathy.
"You've always been the only one who could call me that." He chuckled, watching the blush deepen on her face, she had started calling him that nickname that summer after all.
"Do you...do you want to -" She started, unsure.
"Yes." He cut her off.
"I haven't even asked anything yet." She bit her lip, fighting down the hopeful smile, cerulean eyes peeking at him through her bangs.
"It doesn't matter, as long as it's with you." He said strongly, smirking at the smile that bloomed on her face.
He tilted her face up to his and kissed her chastely, ignoring the cheers and blubbering from his family peeking in from the other room.
