At school the next week, Gabriella was putting her books in her locker at the start of free period when she felt arms around her waist and a head bury in the crook of her neck. She smiled, feeling Troy place a kiss on her neck before turning her around. "Hey Brie."
"Hey Wildcat, I thought we were meeting on the rooftop."
"We were but I figured that now would be a good time for you to meet my dad, since you two haven't met officially." He immediately noticed the panic and nervousness in her eyes. "It's ok, I know he's going to love you." She took a deep breath and nodded as he guided her to his dad's office. They stopped just outside the boy's locker room since that was where Jack's office was.
"Troy, I can't go in there, what if -"
"It's fine Baby I promise, just lean into me and face towards the wall, nothing will happen." She nodded and buried herself into his side as they walked through the locker room to Jack's office, keeping her eyes trained on wall. Troy knocked on the door and heard a faint 'come in.' "Hey Dad, can we talk to you for a minute." Jack nodded and they entered the room, Troy keeping hold of Gabriella's hand. "Dad, I'd like you to officially meet my girlfriend, Gabriella Montez. Brie, this is my dad, Jack Bolton."
"It's nice to meeting you Coach Bolton." She said shyly, making Troy kiss her temple.
"You as well Gabriella, are you a junior too?"
"Yes sir."
Jack nodded and there was silence for a few seconds. "Ok, was there anything else or did you just come by to say hi."
Troy shook his head. "No that was about it."
"Alright then, Troy, when you have a minute, I'd like to talk to you."
Troy nodded. "Ok, I'll just walk Gabriella out then I'll come back and talk to you." He turned to Gabriella. "Is that ok with you Sweetheart and I'll meet you there." Gabriella nodded and they left the room, Troy coming back a few minutes later. "What did you need Dad?"
"Montez, is she related to Chad?"
"Yeah Chad's her brother, and Lachlan Montez in freshman year."
Jack nodded slowly. "She's a junior?"
"Yeah Dad, she said that."
"She seems awfully young to be a junior."
Troy sighed. "Yeah she's kinda young to be a junior, she's 15."
Jack exhaled sharply. "Troy. That's a dangerous game to be playing. You're my son and I know that your intentions are good but be careful. Just make sure you don't push in the physical aspect of your relationship, once she turns 16, you're both legal and I don't have much of a say but until then, you have to be very cautious and I would try to avoid going too far physically. She is underage and if something goes wrong, it would not look good in court if you two have had any form of sex, regardless of consent or not, it would still be classified at rape."
"I know Dad, but I'm not going to hurt her. I'm going to be careful. I'm her first relationship and her first everything and I'm not planning to go too far in our physical relationship until she's 16, we probably won't go past kissing."
Jack nodded. "Ok Bud, I was just making sure. She seems like a nice girl and I know you both have the right intentions."
"Ok Dad, was there anything else?"
"No that was it, enjoy your free period and I'll see you in practice this afternoon."
"Bye Dad."
Troy and Gabriella were sitting on the rooftop, his head rested in her lap as she sat on the bench and he laid on his back. "I don't think your dad likes me."
"No he definitely does Brie. That's what he wanted to talk about after you left, I think he thought it would make you feel uncomfortable if he spoke about our relationship in front of you. But he was just worried about the age difference between us and told me to be careful about our physical relationship since you're underage."
Gabriella's eyes widen. "I'm not with you for that reason, he does know that right? I'm not the kinda girl that's just going to sleep around when I'm underage and -"
"Shh Baby, it's ok, he knows that. I told him that we're not going to be going too far in our physical relationship until you're 16 so we're both legal and that it's gonna be at your pace, you don't have to worry Sweetheart. He does like you though, he said that you're a nice girl and he knows you have good intentions."
She exhaled, a sigh of relief. "I'm glad, I didn't want to put you in an awkward position at home or anything."
"Never, both my parents like you, my mom loves you and I know my dad will too once he gets to know you better." A thought occurred to him. "When am I going to meet your mom, I know your dad's not around anymore but what about your mom?"
Gabriella sighed. "I don't know Troy, at this point, my mom's just as much out of the picture as my dad is, she's always away from home that I wouldn't even be able to tell you when I'd get a chance to see her, let alone for you to meet her. But honestly, you've met Chad, Locky, Jas and Imi, those four are my family and they're what matter to me, apart from you of course." She hated lying to Troy, although it wasn't a complete lie – she didn't know when Casey was gonna be around – a lie of omission was still a lie nonetheless.
Troy, unaware of her thoughts, smiled and placed a kiss on her hand. "Ok Brie and you matter to me too."
