Chapter 44

Tears streamed from her eyes silently as Karlee stared at the twin boys sitting in their little baskets, sleeping soundly and looking like perfect angels. Her heart had soared the moment she laid her eyes on them. Utter perfection. Kaitlyn had managed perfectly, her worrying for but had been quick in her decision to get cleaned up. Only her would want to stay awake rather than catch up on her sleep while she could. Seth was standing watching her and she jumped slightly when she turned to see him staring.

"I'm so proud of you two." She said through a shaky sigh. Seth had a look of love about him that could only be described as complete. He looked like he was floating on top of the world.

"It's a dream come true." He whispered, never taking his eyes off his friend. They stood in silence and they both knew what the other was thinking.

"Dean's been finding this hard. He wants this, with you and all of a sudden he has to start again. So between this and not having you here, he's finding it hard." Karlee nodded in acknowledgement. She missed him, his face and the way he always made her feel so loved and safe. She missed laughing with him and crying over small things. She had wanted to share this moment with him, yet he was probably holed up in his room somewhere, drinking himself into oblivion.

"I know. I will go and see him but I just don't know what I'm going to say yet." Her voice was withering. She felt her chest tighten and she knew she needed to cry, her emotions getting the better of her. She was swiftly taken out of her self pity when the door banged. Alice and Roman.

Not a word was spoken as the pair walked straight over to the two cots that lay side by side. Alice coo'ed over the pair and Roman wrapped his hand around her waist. She spoke softly to the babies, whispering promises to them as they lay sleeping. Kaitlyn emerged from her shower, her cosy PJ's on with a sleepy smile on her face. She radiated a glow that must only be reserved for new Mama's. She was exhausted but she matched the expression Seth was currently holding, pure happiness. Seth's eyes didn't leave their neew children as he picked up a towel and dried her hair for her, an action that seemed almost automatic and the pain in Karlee's chest returned. She longed for that companion again and to feel what they felt, maybe minus the multiple births.

"Karlee?" Alice had obviously set her eyes on her best friend and it wasn't long before she was wrapped in a hug from the small woman and her Samoan boyfriend.

"Are you back for good?" She asked, eyes hopeful? Karlee shrugged.

"I'm gonna leave you all to it. I need to go and check into a hotel and I can come back and see you all later, okay?" She gave Kaitlyn a hug, gentle but firm. She congratulated them again, kissed the babies and bid her goodbyes, leaving them to it.

"Actually, we might just go too, give K a lift. You guys look like you need to rest." Alice spoke, much to the disgust of Roman who was now being peeled away from the cots.

"I've just called the hotel, they have a room next to ours and can check you in really discreetly." Karlee was unsure a room next to them would be a good idea. Dean could be there and it was a little too close for comfort. Roman sensed her unease.

"We won't say anything. It's your decision, not anyone else's as to how you deal with this." She nodded, accepting the room.

"How do you feel being back?" Alice asked, kicking her feet up in the backseat with her friend. Karlee felt strangely homely. If she closed her eyes and switched off her brain for just a second, she felt like she was back on the road again and her adrenaline kicked up and made her smile.

"I miss fighting and I've missed you guys. I'm actually excited to sleep in a hotel again." They all laughed considering how desperate Karlee always was to get into her own bed. Her mind would loved to have stayed away from the thought that was Mr Dean Ambrose but she couldn't help herself.

"Has he been with anyone else?" She asked, almost scared to receive an answer. Part of her wanted them to say yes so she had an excuse as to not go back to him but even she knew that her leaving was her own decision and she made no promise to return, leaving him to do as he pleased. They both shook their heads.

"He's had plenty of attention in the bars and clubs but honestly? That's all it is. He soon brushes them off when he wants to go home." Roman explained. She didn't know how to feel. She needed time to think.

"Okay, I need some time alone. So keep the sexy time to a minimum as I don't want to listen to the both of you all night." They all shared a laugh.

It was four am. Karlee's eyes stung as she sat on her bed, staring at the screen. She had decided to watch Dean's first match from when she left him and she had fallen down a rabbit hole and was no onto his recent promos and matches.

Although he was hurting and the drinking was affecting him, he was owning it. His promo's he were cutting were raw and emotional and he was gripping audiences to the point they were almost silent. Sofia slunk around him like a stupid looking snake. His attention never settled on her. Karlee had cried, laughed and longed all through his screen time. His on screen persona had changed from good guy to bad guy and Karlee found herself reminiscing about when they first got together. That's what he reminded her of.

Karlee had never thought about the change in Dean when they had got together but now it was almost apparent as to how nice a guy he had become. He was no longer as rough round the edges and he considered family and friends the most important thing where as before he was such a lone wolf. Karlee had changed too, allowing someone into her life and exposing the vulnerable side instead of hiding it away. She had learnt to trust again, as much as she swore she never would.

Karlee had called and hung up so many times Stephanie probably thought her phone was on it's last legs. It wasn't until she called back that she suddenly regretted every decision she had made in the past hour.

"K, is everything okay?" She was obviously at an arena as she could hear the hustle and bustle in the background.

"Uh, yeah. I think so. I know your in the area, do you think we could meet for a chat?"
