Author's Notes; Mythological AU. Mostly Plot. Shounen Ai at the end. X thinks a local mermaid nutured and healed him, but that is not the case..Please enjoy..
The young merman woke up the next morning, feeling cold and dry. He was a little scared. He didn't know where he was, but he was very far from home. As he slowly looked around the area, spying the lake and its shore, he got a glimpse of the field and woods behind him also spying a pile of kelp leaves, coral, and fish.
The boy was confused, wondering who had left this for him. He then heard the giggling of the local sirens, spying two of them playfully splashing each other further down the lake. The merman watched the sirens as he ate the food that had been piled for him. The sirens were beautiful. Most of them had no seashells or anything covering their breasts and colorful tails. The merman noticed their scales glittering in the sunlight.
Once the brunette was done eating, he used his light blue tail fins to test the water. It wasn't as warm as he was used to, but in he went. He shyly swam closer to sirens down the lake. The reactions he got were baffling. Some of the sirens backed away in fear and some gave him sultry looks. "Hello there, you're new" and "Stay back" were the greetings he received. One redhead siren swam closer. She didn't seem phased at all. "Nevermind these young ones. They've never seen an Abyssal merman before. What's your name, child?" The brunette titlted his head. "My name is X..but how do you know what kind I am?" The redhead pulled herself up onto a large stone, showing a dark red fish tail covered in the same sharp spiked scales X had. "I'm an Abyssal mermaid. I come from the same place as you. I imagine you were driven here too. My name is Lily." X kept his eyes on Lily. "I was chased at first by a giant squid and then by a shark." Lily nodded. "Chased by a shark years ago. I've lived here for decades ever since." X nodded gently. "I see. Are we safe from sharks here?" Lily smiled. "Yes, they can't survive in freshwater, but we Abyssal merfolk can adapt to it. You should be safe here. These other sirens were born here, so if you need a word, I'm around."
X smiled shyly. "I'll remember that. And thank you." Lily looked puzzled. "Hmm? For what?" She asked, sitting upon the stone. "For the food you left." X said. Lily chuckled. "If I had seen you earlier, I would've gotten you some food, but it wasn't me." Now X was puzzled. "Then...did you see who did?" Lily smiled. " I did. The person who took care of you...is the same one these local sirens fear. Look on your body." X looked down at himself, spotting several areas of a strange red glitter that wasn't affected by the water. "What in the? My wounds! They're gone and..glittering?" "The being that gave you food and took care of your wounds was a young human-like creature called a vampire. They come out at night and need to drink blood to survive. I imagine he is asleep presently. He lives in the cave across from where you washed up. You should get to see him tonight." Lily told him. X gulped. "Drinks blood? Will he..?" Lily grinned. "I don't think he'll bite you. He had no reason to heal and provide for you. Perhaps you have intrigued him. I don't see why he would suddenly turn and reverse his actions."
X had returned to the end of the lake by the time the sun was setting. He was a little intimidated, but he wanted to meet the vampire. He had saved some of the kelp for a snack as he waited. When darkness finally fell, he heard footsteps coming closer from the cave. X hid himself behind a large stone away from the cave as the vampire emerged from the cave. Blue eyes looked around the lake and fangs showed as he grinned. "I see thou art awaketh. How art thy feeling?" said a soothing ethereal voice. X gulped quietly and peered from the large stone. He could see the blond vampire, clad in nothing but short black shorts and the black crown. The vampire looked at X and slowly got into the water, which came up to his girly hips. "Why must thou hide? It was I that gaveth thee food and healed thy wounds. I meaneth thee no harm." X dared not to move, still feeling intimidated. The brunette felt a hand catch his tail and another on his waist. The vampire lifted him up and out of the water and set him on top of the stone.
X shivered in his hands, having closed his eyes. When he felt the blond's hands release him, he slowly opened his jade eyes, looking at the vampire. "Doth this ease thee?" The vampire asked, holding his hips. X nodded shyly, quietly admiring the vampire's eyes. "Th-thank you..b-but..why..?" X tried. "What perplexes thee so? Why hath I healed and nurtured thee? Is that what doth confuse thee?" The vampire asked. X nodded deeply. "Y-yeah.."
The vampire leaned his body against the stone he had lifted X onto. "My name is Zero. I saw thee collapsed on the shore. I saw that thou hath been wounded so I healed thy wounds before fetching thee food. This area hath another of thy species. I am willing to bet thou hath met her. My mother hath nutured her before her death and she hath told me where to find thy essential foods. I sought to prove I too could doeth such as well. And beyond such, thou must not be but so old." X nodded. "I'm 15." Zero smiled and leaned closer to him. "16. Thou art a beautiful merman. I cannot help but want a romantic chance with thee." X was surprised. "Please, be realistic. We're male and different species." Zero chuckled. "Please, I implore thee. Do not be-eth so narrow-minded. This may yet create new understanding between our kinds, they doth rarely meet. And when they doth, it goeth badly usually." X sat silently watching Zero. "You're a rather interesting catch. Well, I guess I will try you. But what about further along?" Zero smirked. "As in...mating? Mayhap we shalt figure that one out as we goeth." X nodded bashfully. "One more thing; You drink blood, right?" Zero reached and gently took X's hand. "Dear one, I shalt not biteth and drinketh from thee. I feareth for thy health if thou doth permit me to drinketh from thee, so shalt I refuse." X blushed brightly when Zero took his hand. "Why is that? Merfolk consider biting rather...sensual." The blond gently squeezed X's hand. "Because. If a vampire biteth thee, one of two things mayhap occur. Thou shalt either perish...or become immortal at mine side. The outcome dependeth upon mine feelings for thou I biteth." "So..if you take a hatred to me ultimately..I'll die if you bite me. But if you are indeed in love.." X put the pieces together. "Then thou art immortal as I am. Thou will live for as long as I." Zero answered. X nodded, sighing gently and taking Zero's hands. "Fine, I'll try you. I wouldn't mind starting this new life with a partner. Guide me, Zero. Show me this life you know."
