This chapter will be somewhat short but the next one will be longer)
The weeks passed and Gabriella's birthday was approaching fast. Troy laid in his bed one night thinking about what he could get for his girlfriend. She'd lived through such a terrible year – which had been almost her whole life before he knew her – and he wanted to get her something amazing; she deserved the best from him. He didn't want to get her something cliche, he wanted it to be something she'd remember and cherish. The teen had thought of a few small gifts that he wanted to get her – some he'd already purchased – but nothing stood out for the love of his life.
As he shifted, one of their earlier conversations came to his mind and he knew just what to get her. If he could get Chad to agree to his plan, he'd be able to give Gabriella the best gift she could ever dream of. With that thought, he was able to drift off to sleep, knowing that he'd be able to discuss his idea with Chad the following day.
Before they started basketball practice the next afternoon, Troy pulled Chad aside while Gabriella had gone to pick up the girls from kindergarten. "Hey Chad, I need to run something by you for Gabriella's birthday."
He nodded in response. "Ok go ahead."
"Well I wanted to do something special for her because of everything she's been through this year, so this is what I've come up with." Troy told Chad his plan, the boy maintaining a blank expression as the wildcat captain explained. "So what do you think? Would you mind if I did that for her birthday? My parents have already agreed so it's on you if you're alright with it."
Chad pinched the bridge of his nose before sighing. "Gabs would love it, I know she would... Alright, you can do that for her birthday, just - just let the girls spend a bit of time with her before she leaves."
Troy nodded. "How about you all come over for breakfast at our house?"
"Alright sounds good captain." As Troy went to walk away, Chad grabbed his arm. "Look I know that I can be a bit difficult when it comes to my sister and I know I wasn't easy on you when you guys first got together, but for the record, I'm glad she's with you Troy. She's happy with you and you treat her the way she deserves to be treated."
Troy shrugged slightly, somewhat uncomfortable with this form of attention. "I love her Chad, she deserves the world."
"Glad to hear Captain... Come on let's get to practice."
