Here's my punishment for not meeting my Christmas deadline; a double upload. It's on the shorter side but it accomplishes what I wanted to write so I felt no need to needlessly extend it.
So, uh, it's a bit obvious by now I'm not gonna do the whole 12 days (unless I make the other days like 10 words lol) so instead, I'll stop at day 6 and continue the rest of the prompts next December.
Yeah, a whole year from now, but hey, at least it means the next 6 stories in this series will be written better... If I improve, that is. :')
And of course, I'll still be writing fics outside of this series. In fact, I already have a longfic idea with these two dorks. Can't promise it'll be out anytime soon, though.
Enjoy.
Tails' ears twitch when he hears the creaking of his workshop door opening, but what really catches his attention is the familiar voice that followed it.
"Wow, I'm surprised to see your face isn't on the keyboard by now."
He shifts his chair sideways from his computer to spot Sonic with a mug in his gloved hand and a light blue blanket wrapped around his other arm.
"Brought ya a lil' something," Sonic cheerfully states, closing the door behind him with his foot.
The hedgehog zips over, miraculously not spilling any of the contents in the mug somehow, and lays the cup on the table next to them. Bright, sky-blue eyes finally notice that the mug contained hot chocolate, a secret favorite of his. He had only told Sonic about it one time, so he couldn't help but be genuinely surprised that the hedgehog had remembered such a minor detail.
"Oh, come on, Sonic," Tails says, almost bashfully, "You shouldn't have."
"Hm, why not?" Sonic asks with a smile, "Your hard work deserves to be paid off, doesn't it?"
Sonic's arm wraps around the fox's shoulder as his other hand pushes Tails' bangs upwards. The mechanic almost questions him about it, but before he could, he feels the hedgehog's soft lips press against his forehead.
The speed at which his face turned red even impressed Sonic.
"Well, uh… Now you're distracting me from that work, so…" Tails pushes Sonic away in an attempt to hide his embarrassment, but the Blue Blur could see right through him.
"Good, I say it's break time."
Tails blinks and opens his eyes to the sight of Sonic pulling up a chair next to him, a smirk carved on the speedster's charming face. The fox feels something covering his orange fur and when he looks down; he spots the blanket that Sonic had been holding now wrapped around him. This is followed up by iconic blue legs laying themselves on his lap in a nonchalant manner.
An exasperated sigh escapes the twin-tailed fox, but the fondness in his eyes could not be denied.
They spend some time just talking as Tails took sips of his hot chocolate. Sonic tries to get the genius inventor to talk about his latest project but doesn't get much information out of him. The hedgehog doesn't pry, knowing that he probably wouldn't understand most of it anyway, but he made a few guesses on why Tails wasn't telling him anything.
"Anyway," Tails says, looking up from the drinking vessel, "Why didn't you bring a cup for yourself if you were planning to stay?"
"Eh, don't worry about it," Sonic replies, waving his hand dismissively. "Besides, that stuff has way too much sugar in it, and you know how hyperactive I am."
Sonic never admits that he made the hot chocolate for himself and only brought the blanket for Tails.
