„You know, I wished your lunch would contain some cheese more often." Plagg circled the plate of fish with a sad look in his eyes. Adrien smiled. „I will ask for it. Until then you´ll have to stick with the storage of camembert in my cupboard. Now let´s check the news." Adrien had decided to take his lunch up to his bedroom while „studying", as his father didn´t show up for the meal again. Except he wasn´t actually studying, but watching television in secret. But as soon as he had reached the news channel, he froze in his movement. The screen showed a worried looking Nadja Chamack in front of a scene of Ladybug fighting a giant rock monster. Adrien dropped his fork. „What is going on? Why didn´t I notice anything? Plagg, claws out!" Plagg, who had just opened Adriens cupboard to reach out for some delicious stinky camembert, got sucked in the miraculous ring and Adrien transformed into Cat Noir.
Once he had reached the roofs of Paris, Cat Noir could already see his partner in some distance trying to defeat the big stone creature using her yoyo to jump from side to side. He clutched his stick and moved forward. If he managed to get to the fight without the monster noticing, he maybe could come from behind. Suddenly, when Cat Noir was just two roofs away from the scene, the creature reached out for Ladybug in the air and knocked her down. Ladybug screamed and landed a few metres away from the rocky feet of her opponent, who raised his giant fist to crush her like an insect. „No!" Cat Noir shouted. He made a huge jump and landed in front of this Lady. „Cataclysm!" He stretched his arm in the direction of the stone fist, which came closer with high speed. Ready to destroy the monster with his force, Cat Noir got ready for the attack.
Which didn´t come. The creatures hand went through the two superheroes without touching them. „What the…?", mumbled Cat Noir. He turned around to Ladybug, but she was gone. Just as the rock monster. Cat Noir stood on the roof by his own. Then it came to him. „An illusion! It was an illusion. But why-" „Now I´ve got you, Cat Noir!", a familiar voice triumphed behind his back. His hand still armed with the Cataclysm, the cat turned around. Hawkmoth was standing there. In fact, it wasn´t only one Hawkmoth. From everywhere around Cat Noir, several copies of the villain circled him in. „Very funny.", the hero said smiling. „You really think I will fall for the same trick two times in a row. These are all illusions!" Still, he wondered why Hawkmoth was wasting time with playing, and he wondered, where the real Ladybug was. The fake Hawkmoths stepped closer. „Oh really?" The voice seemed to come from all of them. „Are you sure they are?" Suddenly, the villains grabbed Cat Noir, and they didn´t feel like illusions at all. They felt real, like… „Sentimonsters?" Cat Noir tried to fight himself free, but they where stronger than him. Bevor he could figure out, what they were planning, some of them grabbed his right hand, where the Cataclysm was waiting to be used. „No!" He tried to fight back, but in the next moment, they had managed to move his hand on his chest, where the Cataclysm released his power of destruction.
Marinette lifted the heavy bag of flour with all her strength. Now she had all the ingredients and could start with the baking. As her friends had decided to make a picnic the following day, she had offered to bring a cake. Her father was about to try out a new recipe, so she had decided to join him. Carrying the flour, she left the storeroom and entered the kitchen. „Dad?" Her father was standing next to her mother in front of the TV, where the news were broadcasted. Marinette joined them. „Hey, what´s up?" Her mother looked at her with worry. „There is something going on. Ladybug has been fighting a supervillain but they disappeared, and now there is Cat Noir and Hawkmoth, but not only one Hawkmoth…" Marinette was stunned. How could Ladybug be fighting a villain, when she was baking a cake in her parents bakery? She watched in horror as the Hawkmoths on the screen surrounded Cat Noir and took his arm. „Oh no!", she whispered when she figured out what they were trying to do. The force of the Cataclysm was enormous, and Cat Noir seemed to be catapulted away. „Mom, I have to call Alya! She is surely interested in this!" Marinette hurried tot he stairs. When she was running up to her room, Tikki emerged out of her jacket. „How is this possible, Tikki? How can there be a Ladybug when I am here?" „I don´t know, Marinette!", the spotted Kwami said confused. „Maybe there was some kind of illusion? Oh Marinette, what if it was a trap for Cat Noir?" Marinette came to a stop in her room. She had thought about it too, but… „And what if this now is a trap for Ladybug? Maybe Cat Noir wasn´t there either?" She shot a look at Tikki, who shrugged. „There´s only one way to find out. Tikki, spots on!"
Ladybug jumped to the next roof in the direction of the fight scene. As soon as she could see the Hawkmoths on a roof in some distance, she hid behind a big chimney. Cat Noir was nowhere to be seen. Ladybug took her multifunctional yoyo and tried to reach him. He didn´t pick up. „This could mean, he really got hit by the Cataclysm. Or that the didn´t even transform yet. In that case, it was all an illusion…" Ladybug took a look at the Hawkmoths on the other roof. They were still there, now looking around as they were searching for something. Ladybug picked up a loose roof tile. Aiming for one of the Hawkmoths, she threw the tile with all her force, expecting it to go through him and destroy the illusion. Instead, the tile hit the man in the back. Immediately, all Hawkmoths turned around to Ladybug. „Damn it.", she mumbled. „They are real. So they must be… Sentimonsters!" Ladybug could not think of a single time when their enemies had ever created so many Sentimonsters. She realised several things in the same moment: First, Hawkmoth and Mayura had a big plan with many soldiers. Second, the scene she had seen on TV had really happened. Third, that must mean that Cat Noir had been hit by a Cataclysm and therefore injured. And fourth, she had a big problem right now, as at least ten Hawkmoth-themed Sentimonsers were about to attack her.
Even though the fight of Cat Noir and the Sentimonsters had been shown live on TV, nobody had actually seen where the superhero had gone. The force of the Cataclysm had thrown him multiple blocks away from the fight scene, where he crushed at a wall and fell on the hard floor of a small dark alley. No one saw the black hero lying unconscious next to the garbage bins and rain barrels, no one heard the small beeping sounds of his ring. And no one saw how Cat Noir transformed back into Adrien Agreste. Plagg emerged out of the ring and groaned in pain. „Daaaamn it! Not again!" Cat Noir had been cataclysmned once before, but this time, it was different. As the force of the Cataclysm had been performed by the hero himself, it had been stronger than the time Miraculier used it. Plagg looked up to his owner. Adrien was lying on his side, his eyes closed. The Kwami tried to get up from the floor, but he was too weak. „Adrien!", he whispered forceful. The boy didn´t move. Plagg took all his strenght together and lifted himself in the air. He landed on Adriens shoulder and reached out for the inside of his jacket, where some camembert was waiting to give him some energy back. Suddenly, he felt Adrien move a little bit, followed by a painful moan. The boy opened his eyes. Even though it was dark in the alley, the light dazzled him and a sharp pain shot through his head. When he lifted his arm to cover his face, his whole body protested. „Plagg?", he coughed in pain. „I´m here!", the Kwami answered from the floor next to him, clutching a piece of camembert. Adrien brought himself in a sitting position and hold back a scream. His chest, where the Cataclysm had hit him, was in terrible pain. He gasped for air and coughed. „What happened!", he asked Plagg, when he could breath again. „Well" The Kwami swallowed the last bit of cheese. „We got hit by our own Cataclysm. Again." „I don´t remember being that sore the last time." „I know." Plagg climbed on Adriens knee. „Last time you got hit by it, but this time you hit yourself." A sudden painful cramp went through Adriens chest and he groaned. Breathing heavily, he looked at Plagg. The Kwami continued. „The Cataclysm is supposed to create severe destruction. You are lucky to have me though, if you were hit by it as Adrien, it wouldn´t have ended this harmless." Adrien tried to get up, but sunk back to the floor. „I have to get back!", he said. „I have to help Ladybug defeating the Sentimonsters!" „Well, I would say, you should rest a little bit.", said Plagg, looking concerned at Adrien, who tried to sit upright without fainting. „But… she needs me." Plagg sighed. „Well, it would be better if you transform anyway, as you are stronger as Cat Noir than as Adrien. This way you might be able to stand up at least." Adrien stretched his hand in Plaggs direction and handed him another piece of camembert. „Maybe this will support you to hold me up." He smiled as the Kwami took a giant bite.
Ladybug dodged the arm of one of the Hawkmoth-Sentimonser. She jumped out of reach and landed on another roof. She had found out that these Sentimonsters weren´t very strong, appearently Mayura had difficulties controling several Sentimonsters at once. All the Sentimonsters seemed to be able to do was trying to catch her. However, they indeed had managed to defeat Cat Noir. While the Sentimonsters were trying to find a way to her, she took her yoyo, trying once again to get through to Cat Noir. Almost immediately his voicemail answered. Ladybug groaned. She had to find him and check if he was okay! Using her yoyo, she looked up his location, but he seemed to be nowhere. „Did he transform back?", she mumbled to herself. „I have to find him…" She turned back to the Sentimonsters.
„Release them. They are kind of useless." Mayura looked up to hawkmoth. The two of them had been watching the Sentimonsters failing to get Ladybugs Miraculous for the last minutes. Hawkmoth still regreted the idea of cataclysmning Cat Noir, as the Sentimonsters couldn´t get his Miraculous that way. He had underestimated the force of the Cataclysm by far. Appaearently, controlling a dozen of Sentimonsters had been a unwise idea too: Mayura wasn´t strong enough to give them enough power. However, Hawkmoth had a new plan.
After transforming, Cat Noir managed to stand up. He leaned at the wall behind him and took a deep breath before he took his stick in order to jump up to the roofs. But just like the last time, he couldn´t. Even the slightest movement seemed nearly impossible. He wished he could talk to Plagg now. Using his stick to stand upright, he left the alley and looked around to check where he was. Again, a sudden pain made him cramp. He had to find Ladybug and help her defeating the Sentimonsters. If only he knew where she was. Cat Noir leaned against a wall and chose the phone function on his stick. Ladybug picked up immediately. „Cat Noir? Where are you? Are you okay?" Chat Noir smiled. „Hey, Bugaboo." He didn´t know what to say. „Let´s say I´m alive. But we have a problem: There are multiple Sentimonsters looking like Hawkmoth." „I know, but… They disappeared." Cat Noir sat down next to a garbage bin. „What?" „Yes, they just disappeared from one moment to another, as if Mayura just took the Amoks away. Cat Noir… Are you really okay? I saw you getting cataclysmned! And you don´t sound alright." Cat Noir tried to supress a groan of pain as his rib suddenly ached. „It´s okay, Milady, I´m just a little sore. I´m one street away from the cinema, by the way, maybe we could meet and discuss our next steps."
As Ladybug hung up, Cat Noir looked around. There weren´t many people on the streets right now, but the few who wandered around hadn´t really noticed him yet. Actually, Cat Noir was glad that nobody had realised him being that defeated. Suddenly, he heard a voice: „Cat Noir?" He turned around to see who had spoken to him. But no one looked at him. Instead, a few people stared into the opposite direction. To his confusion, Cat Noir saw himself walking down the street – or better someone who looked exactly like him. "Cat Noir!", a bright voice shouted and a little boy came running towards his doppelganger, who stopped and took a step backward, clutching his stick. Cat Noir was in shock: Whoever this fake Cat Noir was, he was about to do something stupid. Ignoring the pain, he jumped up and threw himself in front of the child, just in time to block the Copycat´s hit. The people around him screamed with fear, as the villain raised his stick for another attack. "Hide! Go to a save place!", Cat Noir shouted. The villain´s stick hit him in the side. Cat Noir doubled up, trying to resist the desire to lie down. He fought back will all his strength, knowing that he wouldn´t be able to endure long. "Where are you, Ladybug?", he thought to himself.
Ladybug threw her yoyo around the next chimney and flew on the rooftop. The cinema was not far away. She was worried about Cat Noir. Even if he had acted as if he was fine, she knew that he wasn´t. At the same time, she wondered why the Sentimonsters had just disappeared and what this would mean. What were Hawkmoth and Mayura planning? Screaming from beneath her caught her attention. Several people ran into safety. Ladybug jumped down next to a woman. "What´s the matter?", she asked the passer-by. "It´s Cat Noir!", the woman answered in shock. "He´s fighting… himself!" Ladybug started to run. She passed the corner and looked at the scene. The woman was right: Two Cat Noirs were duelling on the street, yet Ladybug couldn´t figure out which was the real one. Then she realised that one of the black clothed heroes wasn't actually attacking, but rather blocking the other´s hits. "That must be him.", Ladybug thought considering Cat Noirs condition. The other one hauled off with his weapon and attacked again. Ladybug sped up and threw her yoyo against him, so that his stick flew out of his hands. His head turned to her. "Ladybug? What are you doing?" She froze. Had she just disarmed the real Cat Noir?
Cat Noir took his chance. When the villain was distracted by Ladybug disarming him, he braced up and tackled the guy, although it hurt his own body to jump. "Cataclysm!", the Copycat shouted. Cat Noir´s eyes went wide. He knew what would come, but he didn´t manage to evade the destruction bringing hand, which hit him in the solarplexus like a wrecking ball.
"No!", Ladybug screamed as her partner was thrown against the wall of a near building. His lookalike reached out for his stick and turned to her. "Well, now it´s just you and me, Ladybug! Hope you enjoy the action!" Wondering if it was an akumatised person or another Sentimonster, Ladybug swung her yoyo to use it as a shield. The villain tried to hit her with his stick, but she blocked it and kicked the weapon out of his hands again. Using his shock, she wrapped her yoyo around him. "Cataclysm!", he shouted again and moved his hand towards the yoyo. "No!" Ladybug took it back so that he couldn´t destroy her only instrument to deevelize akumas. Then it came to her. If this was a Sentimonster, her plan wouldn´t defeat it, but at least distract it… She reached out for his arm and kicked him in the back of the knee so he fell down. After that, she pressed his hand against his chest, just as he had done with Cat Noir. As Ladybug had learned from the Sentimonster Reflectdoll, it wasn´t possible to destroy such a creature with a Cataclysm. However, it would damage it enough to distract it. "I´m sorry, but you give me no choice.", she said and lifted Cat Noirs confused doppelganger into a garbage bin, which she locked using some plastic stripes. Then she turned around.
Cat Noir was lying on the opposite end of the street. He was nearly unconscious, clutching his chest in pain. "Cat Noir!" He looked up, his eyes nearly closed. "Milady…", he pressed out. Ladybug ran to him. "No! Get back!", Cat Noir panted with fear in his voice, wincing backwards. "But Cat Noir, it´s me!" "How do I know?" The hero groaned in pain, struggling to keep his eyes open. Damn, that hurt! Cat Noir gasped for air. Shaking, he hold himself up with one hand, the other one kept close to his aching chest. "How do I know that you aren´t another…" He coughed, unable to continue, before he curled and collapsed on the street.
Ladybug knelt next to his head. Cat Noir was breathing with a rattle. Worried, she set him up a little and let his sweating head rest on her lap. He was awake, but nearly unconscious. "I´m neither a Sentimonster nor an illusion, Kitty. Come on, we have to get away from here." Ladybug lifted her partner up, which made him hiss in pain. A crushing noise came from the garbage bin she had locked the Sentimonster in. "Oh no, we got no time to lose.", Ladybug murmured and ran towards a nearby drain cover. She opened it quickly and disappeared to the underground together with Cat Noir.
Down in the Egouts, Ladybug ran as fast as she could. They had to get as far away from the Sentimonster as possible, and even more important, out of Hawkmoths sight. The villain was aiming for them, so he mustn´t know where they were. When she was sure that she had reached a far enough distance, Ladybug stopped. Carefully, she put Cat Noir down. Lightening up the place with her yoyo, she knelt down. Her partners face was pale and sweaty. His eyes where closed and his breathing went irregularly. "Poor Kitty.", Ladybug wispered. Cat Noir´s eyelids fluttered slightly open. He forced himself to a painful smile. "Hi, Bugaboo.", he said in a quiet, strained voice. "Guess I… brought us into some… trouble, hu?" Ladybug smiled. "You certainly did. Can you tell me where you´re hurt?" Cat Noir´s ironic laugh turned into a weak cough. "Everywhere?" His smile faded when another wave of pain hit him and made his insides feel like they were on fire. "I… it mainly hit my chest… it´s hard to… breath. And I feel… like I broke… some ribs." He winced and took a sharp breath. Carefully, Ladybug placed her hand on Cat Noirs ribs to check on them. Something felt wrong. "We have to end this. But I am not sure how. As there seemed to be no akumatised person and we got no idea where Mayura is hiding, I can´t perform my "Miraculous Ladybug" to fix everything including you. But maybe…" She took her yoyo to check the map. They weren´t too far away from Master Fu´s home. "I have to move you one more time, Cat Noir.", she said. Her partner lifted his head a little bit. "Whenever you´re ready, Milady."
Marinette knocked on the door of the Guardians Home. She had left Cat Noir at the bottom of the ladder of a nearby drain cover. After making sure no one could see her, she had emerged out of the Egouts and transformed back into Marinette. Master Fu opened the door. "Hello Marinette." The look in his eyes made her think that he had an idea of what was going on. "Master, are you alone? We need your help, but I will have to come in as Ladybug." "Certainly. Where did you leave Cat Noir?"
A few minutes later Ladybug had placed her partner on Master Fu´s mattress. The Guardian sat down and laid one hand on Cat Noir´s forehead and the other one on his chest. His expression showed concern. Ladybug felt hopeless. "Can you heal him?", she asked. Master Fu shook his head in regret. "Not completely. The force of a Cataclysm is way stronger than my healing methods, and Cat Noir was hit by two of them. All I can do is to ease some of his pain and give him back some energy. Speaking of it, we should energize his Kwami again. It takes a lot of strength from Plagg to keep his owner up." He looked down to Cat Noir, whose eyes where closed with a pained look in his face. "However, he has to transform by himself." He gave the injured hero a soft shake on the shoulder. "Cat Noir! Wake up!" Despite the dazzling light, Cat Noir opened his eyes. Taking all his strength together, he managed to lift his upper body, leaned on his elbow and looked around the room in surprise. "You´ll need to transform, Cat Noir.", Master Fu said calmly. He turned to Ladybug. "I must ask you to turn around, my dear. You aren´t supposed to know his identity." Ladybug turned around, staring at the pictures on the wall. "Claws in.", she heard Cat Noirs voice.
As soon as Plagg emerged out of his ring, Adrien felt the piercing pain in his chest grow. He took a deep breath which led to a painful coughing fit. His hands pressed to his chest, he curled up. Meanwhile, Master Fu got some camembert from somewhere, which he offered the exhausted Plagg. The Kwami took it and sat next to Adrien, who started to feel dizzy. "It´s gonna be alright.", he told his shaking owner, although he was quite sore too. Master Fu reached out for some potions in his cupboard and handed Plagg a small bowl with liquid. "This will make you feel better.", he promised. After Plagg has eaten the cheese, he drunk it with one sip. Ladybug was still sitting next to them looking away. Even though she wanted to help, she forced herself to stay away as she had been told. "Are you ready?", she heard Plagg asking. Not long after that, a strained voice mumbling "Claws out!" Ladybug turned back around. Cat Noir still lied on the mattress, but he wasn´t as pale as before. Master Fu went to his cupboard again. "Help me with that, Ladybug." He handed her a variety of little boxes and bottles. After putting it all down next to Cat Noir, he disappeared into another room and came back with a kettle of steaming hot water. Ladybug looked at Cat Noir, who was still curled up. "You are you, Kitty?", she asked carefully. He tried to turn in order to lie on his back again, and let out a suppressed moan of pain. "Can´t complain.", he pressed out, forcing himself to smile. He was indeed feeling a little better now that Plagg had been given the medicine. However, he knew that he wouldn´t be able to get up by his own.
Master Fu put the hot water in a bowl and added some strange looking herbs. Carefully counting the stirs, he trickled some of his potions inside. The mixture turned bright green. The Guardian turned back to the superheroes. "You have to sit up now.", he told Cat Noir. Ladybug supported her partner so get into an upright position. Cat Noir´s ribs protested, but he suppressed a cry of pain. Again, his body started to tremble without him being able to control it. Ladybug knelt down behind him so he could lean back. Master Fu moved the bowl closer to Cat Noirs face. "This potion can´t heal you completely, Cat Noir. You are going to feel relief from the pain, but as the Cataclysm´s destruction needs to be repaired by the "Miraculous Ladybug", I can´t undo the damage." Cat Noir nodded weakly and took the bowl with his shaking hands. The Guardian didn´t let go of the medicine, but helped his patient putting it to his lips. Cat Noir had expected the potion to be hot, but it was as if he was drinking ice water. Shuddering, he collapsed, but his pain disappeared completely for a few seconds. "Wow!", he mumbled in surprise. The ice cold feeling that had went through his whole body subsided, and the soreness came back. However, it was less intense, so that he felt actually good in comparison to a few minutes earlier. Ladybug offered him her hand to stand up. "Wow, that was…" He gazed at the Guardian. "Thank you, Master!" "You´re welcome, but I can´t promise you will be okay for long. Listen, you two…"
Meanwhile, Hawkmoth got tired of waiting. After Ladybug and Cat Noir had disappeared, he had akumatized a little girl who had been terrified by the fight of Cat Noir and his doppelganger. She now was racing through the streets as "Terrifier", who made the people´s most recent fears come true when she touched them. As a result, one man had received a call from his chef telling him he was fired, while a young woman had been rejected by her boyfriend. Hawkmoth watched her doing her thing, but after half an hour, he got impatient. Ladybug and Cat Noir still hadn´t shown up. "Terrifier! Stop playing around now! Find Ladybug and Cat Noir!" Actually, the two superheroes where already on the way. Although feeling like he had been hit by a truck, Cat Noir hold tightly on his Lady, who was flying towards the akumatized girl, using her yoyo. They came to a halt in an alley just two crossings away from Terrifier. Ladybug landed as elegant as usual while her partner was overwhelmed by the sudden stop and hit the street. While he was pulled up by Ladybug, he realized that the effect of the magic pain killer was slowly getting less. "What´s the plan, Milady?", he asked with his usual optimistic voice. "I´m not sure yet.", she answered. "I know what the Terrifier wants to do, but I neither know where the Akuma went, nor how I should get close to her without getting touched." She peeked around the corner. Watched from a distance, Terrifier didn´t look that terrifying at all. She looked a little bit like a mixture of a cat and a girl in black and white, but with a purple coat and a glove. Furthermore, she was crawling on her hands and feet like an animal. Cat Noir shrugged. "Maybe it´s time for your Lucky Charm, right?" He supressed a cough, noticing the choking feeling inside his lungs sneaking back. Ladybug nodded. Throwing her yoyo into the air, she called out "Lucky Charm!". A red item with black spots appeared and she caught it when it fell down. "A glue tube? What am I supposed to do with this?" Before she could look around to figure it out, she heard quick steps running towards her. Terrifier had noticed them.
Hissing like a little cat, Terrifier reached out for Ladybug, who jumped back. Cat Noir joined the fight, keeping the girl away with his stick. "Such a lovely Kitty!", he joked. "Adorable. It´s just moving so fast." Terrifier jumped back and forward like an aggressive puppy, trying to touch the superheroes without getting caught by them. She made a huge jump reaching out for Ladybugs earrings, but the heroine dodged. Therefore, Terrifier turned to Cat Noir. He blocked her attacks with his stick, but every time, he got more and more exhausted. A sudden sting of pain made him bend and nearly fall down. Terrifier took her chance and reached out for him. Suddenly, Cat Noir was pulled out of her way by Ladybugs yoyo. The heroin clutched her partner around the waist and swung up on a roof. "Thanks, Milady!", Cat Noir panted. "I was close to getting catcalled." "Not exactly." Ladybug smirked. Being shook with another wave of hurt, Cat Noir fell on his knees. "Damn it.", me mumbled angrily. "Time to defeat this pussycat." Ladybug looked at her Lucky Charm, then looked at Terrifier, who was acting like a mad guard dog, hissing in their direction and pacing up and down. Then it came to her. "Look! She is wearing only one glove. This is where the Akuma must be!" She stepped over to Cat Noir to help him up. "Please clench your teeth one more time. I need you to distract her." "No problem!" Cat Noir forced himself to stand upright and smiled. "Let´s see which cat is in charge in this territory." He jumped off the roof and landed next to Terrifier, who spinned around and grumbled. "Well, who´s the Kitty now?", Cat Noir provoked her. "Wanna play cat and mouse?"
While Cat Noir did his thing, Ladybug left the roof. She took the glue and smeared a good amount on it on a wall. "Hey, Kittykitty! Here am I!" She placed herself in front of the glue. Terrifier turned away from Cat Noir, who dropped on the floor with exhaustion and pain. The akumatized girl sped up in Ladybugs direction. She jumped and stretched her gloved hand out to the heroine´s face. In the last moment, Ladybug stepped aside, and the hand touched the sticky wall instead. Terrifier fell down, but her glove remained stuck in the glue. Lifting himself up with all his leftover force, Cat Noir stepped to the clothing. "Cataclysm!"
