Chapter 4:
The Shiny Stone
"Ethan."
I didn't know where I was. It was filled with black and purple, but in essence it was an endless void.
"Where am I?" I asked.
"My name is Darkrai" said the voice. "I am here to give you a message."
I decided to listen. That voice might have been the one that sent me there. "What is it?" I asked.
"The world is in danger. You are to go to a far off region to save it. There will be a boy waiting for you there... go help it."
"WAIT!" I shouted as the voice got fainter. "Where should I go?"
I woke up.
It was just a dream.
Me and Lyra went to the Magnet Train Station, bound for Kanto. "So" I asked Lyra. "Where are we going to find a Shiny Stone anyway?"
"I'm… not to sure Eusine" she said, distracted.
"Eusine, really?" I asked. "No, Eusine is the guy who tried chasing Suicune when I was on my journey"
"That would be me as well." Eusine suddenly seemed to appear from on top of the Railway Building. He jumped down, only to have his Alakazam use Psychic to give him a softer landing.

"That's right" I said. "Why are you coming? If it's about Legendary Pokémon, not the best idea. We know about the incident in Hoenn 2 years ago, I don't think you are allowed to do anything like that anymore. Raikou and Entei weren't released for nothing."
"That was mainly Team Rocket" Eusine said as we walked into the Station. "Listen, I need to come with you because, well, I have some business to attend do. You still have my Pokégear number?"
"Yep" I said. "Call me if you need anything." I regretted saying that; Eusine's a nice guy but he's very unpredictable. I told Lyra to stay close, as he was also boarding the same carriage as us.
After a lightning fast trip on the Magnet Train (it took an hour?!), the three of us arrived in Saffron City. Pichu popped its head out of my bag and gazed in amazement, before jumping out and running around on the pavement.
"That Pichu looks peculiar" Eusine said.
"It's quite rare." I told him.
"Really" he said as he started making his way north.
I was about to say goodbye when I realized EXACTLY where he was going. "You're going to Cerulean Cave aren't you?" Iasked, just as Eusine started walking faster. "No you don't" I said. "Venomoth, come out and use Stun Spore!" Venomoth scattered orange powder on Eusine, paralyzing him.
"What… was that for?" Eusine asked.
"It's Mewtwo isn't it. You're trying to catch it."
"Why… would I do that?" he asked.
"Because you're a Legendary Chaser, or once was. You were told to stop after the incident in Hoenn. I'm sorry, but you're not going."
"Oh…really" he said. "Alakazam, Teleport!" Alakazam whisked Eusine away suddenly.
"We need to follow him" Lyra said. "I'd imagine Cerulean should be the place."
Upon arriving in Cerulean, we asked everyone if they saw Eusine anywhere. "He can't have got far, he must still be under Stun Spore effects."
"I've told the Police" Lyra said, coming back after running off briefly. "They have an eye out for him, unless of course he's already inside Cerulean Cave…"
"Well if he is, then we need to stop him. The Shiny Stone can wait. We can get to Cerulean Cave by going across the Nugget Bridge."
We ran across the Nugget Bridge and saw the entrance to Cerulean Cave. "Lyra, can Marill learn Surf?"
"Sure can Eiji."
It was gonna be dangerous in there. I hopped on Suicune and Lyra hopped on Marill (on the wave it created) and we skimmed the water to the entrance.
Inside Cerulean Cave it was dark, wet and… actually no the cliche cave description matched the place perfectly.
"I want to be excited about all the Pokémon we could find in here" Lyra told me. "But I'm scared. What if Mewtwo finds us and sees us as a threat?"
"We'll be fine" I said. "Because you have me. Can Mewtwo really defeat the Champion?" That was a good question though. What if it WAS stronger than me?
At that point, we ran into a Pokémon; a Magneton.

"Typhlosion" I shouted. "Use Eruption!" Typhlosion's flames started getting big. Then it fired flaming hot magma at Magneton, who was finished in one hit.
"Not bad!" Lyra said. "Super Effective and at full health!"
As we walked through, Lyra asked me a few questions. "So are you Eusine's friend or not? You have his number."
"I mean, we haven't seen each other in 2 years back in Hoenn. I think at one point on my journey he hated my guts because Suicune chose me. He really wanted it" I looked at Suicune's Pokéball.
"What does he want anyway? He couldn't get Suicune, what makes him think he can get Mewtwo."
I wasn't sure. Even he wouldn't do something to the level of the Hoenn incident.
We had made it to the final floor and, of course, Mewtwo was waiting with no Eusine in sight.
"Mewtwo!" I shouted.
Mewtwo noticed us, then spoke to us through telepathy. "Ethan?" it asked. "What are you doing here?"
"Mewtwo. Eusine is on his way here. We don't know what he's planning, we're sure it's not bad. But a restraining order of sorts has been placed on him near any non-owned Legendary Pokémon after the Hoenn incident."
"Really" Mewtwo asked. "Well, what are we to do in the meantime?"
"Stop thinking." From out the darkness came a red haired man with a single pierced ear and a grey coat. Lyra stepped back behind me.
It was Akihiko.
"Who is he?" Lyra asked.
"Akihiko, he was behind the Hoenn attack. He's part of Team Rocket."
"Team Rocket? Don't make me laugh, my days are done with those brutes. I've been hired by someone else now." He took off the cloak, revealing himself in a grey spacesuit like uniform.
"Your part of Team Galactic now?!" Lyra shouted.
"Team Galactic? Who is that?" I asked.
"Team Galactic pursues a better universe, and we will need plenty of strong Pokémon to do it, starting with Mewtwo." He got out what looked like a red necklace.
"What is that?" I asked.
"A sample of the powerful Red Chain. At maximum power, it's capable of controlling even Legendary Pokémon. You might have heard, but Team Galactic have finally captured the Legendary Azelf of Sinnoh's Lake Valor, and I came here to use this on you Mewtwo."
"Don't even try!" Mewtwo warned.
"I invented the Legendary Tamer though. Team Galactic hired me afterwards to work on the Red Chain, and their progress has come far thanks to me."
"It's gone far enough then!" I said. "We are going to battle, this instant!"
"Fair enough" Akihiko said. "You're only asking for a death sentence though."
"Go Togetic!" I yelled.
"I choose Ambipom!" said Akihiko, sending out what looked like a two tailed Aipom.

They live in large trees. They are said to communicate by connecting their tails to those of others.
Aipom -Double Hit Ambipom
"Togetic, use Ancient Power!" Togetic summoned some rocks that hit Ambipom.
"Ambipom, Double Hit!" Ambipom hit Togetic with both its tails.
"Are you okay?" I asked Togetic. "Let's get a bit risky. Use Metronome!" Togetic started waggling its fingers. What would become of it? It was Vacuum Wave! Togetic sent a small wave of energy at Ambipom, hitting for Super Effective damage. "Nice one!" I told it.
"Ambipom, Shock Wave!" Ambipom suddenly summoned electricity and shot it at Togetic, almost finishing it off.
"Togetic, use another Metronome!" I knew this was risky, but it was worth a shot. Togetic's arm turned green and then it swiped Ambipom. It was Leaf Blade! Ambipom was down.
"No biggy" Akihiko said. "Let's see how you deal with Mamoswine!" Akihiko sent out a large brown Pokémon with two large tusks.

It flourished worldwide during the ice age but its population declined when the masses of ice began to dwindle.

"Come back Togetic. Go Typhlosion! Use Eruption!" Typhlosion shot magma at Mamoswine, but it missed.
"Mamoswine, Earthquake!" Mamoswine made the entire ground shake, doing lots of damage to Typhlosion.
"Try another Eruption!" Typhlosion used it again, this time hitting Mamoswine and beating it.
"This isn't over yet" Akihiko told me. "Go Lickilicky!" Out came a large pink Pokémon with a stubby tail and long tongue.

Its saliva can decompose anything. It wraps its long tongue around things to coat them with its sticky saliva.

"Go Ampharos!" I commanded. "Ampharos, use Thunder!" Ampharos summoned a lightning cloud. A strike of lightning then came down and hit Lickilicky.
"Lickilicky, Earthquake!" Lickilicky created an Earthquake that almost took down Ampharos.
"Ampharos, use Signal Beam!" Ampharos shot a colourful beam at Lickilicky. It was done.
"I choose Tangrowth!" Akihiko sent out a large green Pokémon with long arms that had red tips on the end.

When it remains still, it appears to be a large shrub. Unsuspecting prey that wander near get ensnared by its vines.
Tangela -Ancient Power Tangrowth
"Ampharos, Signal Beam!" Ampharos once again shot a beam at Tangrowth.
"Giga Drain!" Tangela wrapped its long arms around Ampharos. Its whole body then turned green as Ampharos started screaming in pain.
"Ampharos's energy is getting drained" Lyra said. After that, Tangrowth let go of Ampharos, it's Signal Beam damage all healed, and Ampharos fell to the ground.
"Ampharos!" I yelled, recalling it. "Go Venomoth!" I yelled. "Use Bug Buzz!" Venomoth started making a vibrating sound, sending waves at Tangrowth for a lot of damage.
"Tangrowth, Ancient Power!" Tangrowth fired rocks at Venomoth, who was really knocked back by that move.
"Venomoth, use Sludge Bomb!" Venomoth fired a ball of sludge at Tangrowth, knocking it out.
"Ugh" Akihiko said. "You're good, but not good enough. I choose Yanmega!" Out came a long Pokémon with big red eyes and giant wings.

The beat of its wings is so powerful that it accidentally dislodges full-grown trees when it takes off in flight.

"Yanmega, Air Slash!" Yanmega swiped the air creating a shock wave that hit Venomoth, finishing it.
"Venomoth!" I shouted. "Take a good rest. Come on out Typhlosion!"
"Yanmega, Ancient Power!" Yanmega fired rocks at Typhlosion, who dodged them.
"Typhlosion, Eruption!" Typhlosion created another Eruption that finished Yanmega in one.
"Unbelievable" Akihiko said. "Okay, time for my final Pokémon. Go Blaziken!" Akihiko sent out a large red feathered Pokémon with two big plumes on its head and sharp claws. The Pokédex didn't register it, but Lyra had me covered.

"Thanks Lillian" I said, sticking my tongue out playfully. "Typhlosion, Shadow Claw!" Typhlosion's claw started glowing dark. It then swiped Blaziken.
"Blaziken, Stone Edge!" Blaziken summoned multiple stones then fired them at Typhlosion for tons of damage. It finished it.
"NOOOO!" I yelled as my partner fell to the floor. "Typhlosion, you did good." I held my next Pokéball in hand. "I choose Suicune!"
"Oh great" Akihiko said. "I don't like seeing this one. Reminds me of, that time you stopped me."
"Well I'm gonna stop you again. Suicune, Hydro Pump!" Suicune shot a torrent of at Blaziken. It was a one shot knockout!
"No" Akihiko shouted.
"You're plan has failed" I told him.
Akihiko was now getting very angry. "I… have another one" he said, pulling out another Red Chain. "I know who I'm gonna use it on!" He threw it at Suicune.
"NO!" we all shouted, just as Pichu jumped in front of Suicune.
"So, your little pipsqueak Pichu took the bullet for Suicune. I admire your bravery, but I'm not going to stay to see the end result for this either." He threw the other Red Chain at Mewtwo, which tied around it. However, Mewtwo broke free.
"Not strong enough" Mewtwo told him. "Nice try."
"Well, deal with Pichu then!" At that point, he stopped moving. "Why… can't I run?" he asked
Eusine and Alakazam walked into the light at that point, Alakazam keeping Akihiko in place with Psychic. "I knew you would be here" he said.
"Eusine!" I shouted with Lyra. "So you weren't trying to catch Mewtwo?"
"I was trying to save it. I will take him away if that's fine with you."
I nodded to Eusine who immediately went off with Akihiko. After all, we had another problem on our hands. Pichu's eyes were glowing, and it was surrounded in red energy. It then gave us an angry look.
"Is this the effect of the Red Chain?" Lyra asked.
Pichu suddenly charged at us with a Volt Tackle. "Pichu stop it!" I tackled Pichu to try and stop the attack, but it forced me into a wall. "Pichu, enough! I need to get this off you…" Pichu kept lashing out and biting at me as I struggled to take the Red Chain off, but it didn't move. "Mewtwo, help up!"
Mewtwo used Psychic on the Red Chain, loosening its grip just enough for Pichu to wriggle out and calm down. The Red Chain then fell on the floor and Pichu fainted from exhaustion.
"Edgardo, are you alright?" Lyra asked.
"I'm… fine" I said struggling. I then looked at the Red Chain. "Why wasn't it destroyed? I'd of thought Mewtwo would be strong enough to."
"It's not the level of strength that's needed to destroy it" Mewtwo said. "It's the type. I don't have that type of strength, but the Guardians of Sinnoh's Lakes might be able to."
"Then I've made a decision; I'm going to the Sinnoh region. I better book my flight."
Before that though, we both agreed to get out of the cave.
"So glad to see that you are alright" Eusine told us both when we got back to Cerulean.
"Where's Akihiko?" I asked.
"He's been taken in again." He waved to the Policeman who came over to me earlier.
"Thank you for stopping him Ethan. If there is anything we can do, we'll do it."
"Oh I can't" I said.
"Come on Everett" Lyra said. "What did we come here for?"
"Oh yes, I almost forgot in the commotion! I came to Kanto to find a Shiny Stone in order to evolve my Togetic. You wouldn't happen to have one would you?"
"We can do that for you easily" the Policeman said, as Officer Jenny came over with a bag of Stones. She pulled out a yellow one.
"This is for your effort today."
I sent out Togetic. "Are you ready?" I asked it, giving it the Shiny Stone. With that, it started to evolve. The glowing died and Togetic now had large wings and looked very graceful. However, my Pokédex couldn't recognize it.
"Allow me" Lyra said.

"Anything else we can do?"
"Yes" I said, this time a lot more serious. I got out the Red Chain. "Akihiko had this, it's something to do with the Red Chain myth of the Sinnoh region."
Jenny took it. "Hmm, thanks a lot. We will take this to Cynthia when we can."
"I was honestly planning to go to Sinnoh myself" I said.
"No need!" she replied. "Cynthia is here, checking out the Sinjoh Ruins that had been excavated recently."
"Maybe I could meet her then" I said. "I'll give it two days."
"That will be her last day there. I will tell her to expect you."
"Tomorrow is my last day" Lyra said. "Before I get ready to head back home to."
"Oh" I said. "Then let's make tomorrow the biggest adventure yet, and I know just what to do…"
