This is for the Halloween 2020 challenge unless I'm too late. Then this is just a late Halloween fic. Please enjoy

Happy Halloween, Katie

Kendall looked around at the guys. They were all sitting in his and Logan's room. They were plotting a way to get Katie back into the Halloween spirit. With the pandemic still ongoing not many people were celebrating. It bummed Kendall to see Katie so down. Halloween was one of her favorite holidays.

"Guys, Halloween is tomorrow, we have to do something to cheer Katie up," Kendall sighed.

"We can't leave the Palm Woods," Logan reminded him.

"Yeah, and no one here really wants to hand out candy because they are scared," James replied.

"Yeah, so what do we do?" Carlos asked.

"I say scary movie marathon," James declared.

"That didn't work, I tried that last night. I could even get a chuckle out of her from some of the cheesy ones," Kendall said shaking his head.

"I've never seen her this down before," Logan said.

"It's this pandemic. It's got everyone all depressed and going crazy," Carlos said.

"Ok we can't exactly go trick or treating," James said.

"Maybe we can bring trick or treating to her," Kendall said slowly.

"How?" Logan asked.

"Ok, I have an idea and we are gonna need some help from a few friends," Kendall said slowly as his master plot started to take form in his mind.

"What are you thinking?" James asked.

"James and Carlos I need you guys to go convince Lucy, Camille, and Jo to come to the apartment," Kendall said quickly. "Wear your masks," he added glancing to Carlos.

"I forget one time," Carlos said as he jumped up.

"What do you need me to do?" Logan asked.

"You and I are gonna go shopping," Kendall said grinning.

—Happy Halloween—

Katie sighed as she looked around the empty lobby. It was after class and no one was hanging around. Everyone was so scared of getting sick now they all fled back to their apartments as soon as class was over.

"Hey Katie."

Katie glanced over at Tyler. He had his mask up to his eyes, and seemed pleasant as ever. Katie swore this kid never had an off day.

"Hey Tyler, won't your mom freak if she finds out you're talking to me again," Katie said.

Mrs. Duncan was completely terrified of COVID-19. She carried hand sanitizer and gloves everywhere. At one point she had even sprayed Tyler with disinfectant. Katie had told Jennifer about that. Thankfully she was able to get through to her and make her stop that habit.

"Nah, she's on new meds that mellow her out a little," Tyler replied, "she's even letting me come to school."

"Does she still make you scrub down when you enter the apartment?" Katie asked.

"Everytime," Tyler replied with a smile.

"How are you still so happy?" Katie asked.

"You just gotta roll with the punches Katie. Life is unexpected. You never know what's around the corner," Tyler replied.

"Well what's around the corner sucks," Katie said.

"Don't be so gloom and doom," Tyler said, nudging Katie lightly.

"Sorry, it's just with all this stupid virus crap, it's hard to see the bright side. I just want things to be normal again," Katie sighed.

"Things will get better, we have to get through the bad to get to the good," Tyler said.

"I hope so," Katie sighed.

"Katie!"

Katie looked up as Carlos crossed the lobby towards her. He had a mischievous look on his face. It meant nothing good usually. The guys all had too much time on their hands now that Big Time Rush was on a break from touring.

"Hey Carlos," Tyler greeted them with a smile.

"What's up Carlos? Did mom send you after me cause I was taking too long to get back after school? I was just talking to Tyler with a mask. No virus here," Katie said.

"No, I just wanted to know if you guys wanted to go trick or treating with me," Carlos said, holding up two pillow cases.

"I'm in," Tyler said, grabbing a pillow case.

"It's been cancelled," Katie said rolling her eyes.

"Or has it?" Carlos asked, holding out a folded slip of paper.

"What are you talking about?" Katie asked, confused. She took the slip of paper and the pillowcase from Carlos.

"Follow the clues for the ultimate trick or treat surprise," Carlos said before dashing off.

Katie unfolded the paper and saw a set of instructions.

"Behind each clue is a trick or a treat. Find all ten clues and get the ultimate surprise," Katie read.

"I'm down," Tyler said.

"You mom won't get mad that you're not home soon?" Katie asked.

"Yeah, she will get over it," Tyler said, waving a hand.

"First clue, you can find your first surprise at the hands of an axe murderer," Katie said.

"Axe murder?" Tyler asked, confused.

"Buddha Bob," Katie replied. She ran off to the maintenance room. There was a sign that said please knock. She shared a look with Tyler before knocking.

The door opened to reveal Buddha Bob with a leaf blower on his back.

"Open the bags!" He hollered.

Katie and Tyler quickly opened their bags as he pointed the leaf blower at the bags. Katie and Tyler tried to catch as much candy as possible.

"Enjoy your treat," Buddha Bob said, "don't tell Bitters I destroyed the Palm Woods leaf blower," he added. Katie and Tyler nodded their heads laughing. Buddha Bob held out their next clue.

Katie took it and walked away with Tyler. They quickly looked over their next clue which led them to the pool.

"There is no door here though," Tyler said.

"The cabana," Katie said, pointing to a closed cabana. The pair walked up to it. They exchanged looks before Tyler spoke.

"Uh, knock knock," Tyler said slowly, with a shrug to Katie.

Suddenly a scream was heard and the three Jennifers ran from the cabana covered in fake blood, followed by Guitar Dude dressed as a zombie. He chased them around the pool.

"I think this was a trick," Katie said laughing.

"Yeah, give me a heart attack," Tyler said clutching his chest.

Katie laughed and ducked into the cabana. She saw their next clue sitting on the table. She snatched it and read the clue.

"Next stop, the home of Hollywood's next big star. His face was born for TV," Katie said.

"Oh, they got my mom in on this," Tyler said, "that's why she hasn't called me freaking out yet."

Katie laughed and took off for the elevator. Tyler followed her. They arrived at the fifth floor in no time. Katie knocked on the door.

It opened to reveal Mrs. Duncan dresses up as black cat. She smiled at the two.

"Happy halloween," she said to them.

"Is this a trick or a treat?" Katie asked.

"Oh right," Mrs. Duncan said. She turned around and grabbed a tray of brownies. "Take as many as you want."

"Awesome, thanks Mrs. D," Katie said.

"Thanks mom," Tyler said snatching brownies too.

"Be careful you two, I'm all for this, but please keep your masks on," she said.

"We will mom," Tyler replied.

"Yeah, we will be safe Mrs. D," Katie assured her.

"Here's you're next clue," Mrs. Duncan said, holding out a paper to Katie.

Katie took it and she and Tyler looked it over.

—Happy Halloween, Katie—

Kendall watched as Jennifer and Logan got everything ready for their trick. Logan had come up with the idea of making a witches brew. Jennifer had quickly pulled together a witch costume too.

"How's it looking guys?" Kendall asked as he looked down at his phone. "Jo just texted me that they are on their way to James and Lucy next."

"We are almost done," Logan replied as he mixed up something in the cauldron he was working on. Jennifer was getting the dye ready for the explosion.

Kendall looked around the apartment. It was super spooky looking too. He was proud of what they had managed to pull together in such a short amount of time. Katie was going to love it.

"Ok we need to get into costumes," Kendall said looking at his mother.

"Right, let's get changed," Jennifer said as ran over to her costume. She had two witch costumes for her and Kendall. While Logan was going to be a mad scientist. She tossed Kendall a witch hat and toy broom.

"You're sure this is going to work?" Kendall asked Logan.

"Yes, it's basically the same thing as the volcanoes we made for the science fair in grade school," Logan said waving a hand.

"Just checking, I want to make sure this all goes good," Kendall said.

"Well, according to Carlos he said she is having a lot of fun," Jennifer said looking at her phone.

"Carlos? They are moving fast," Kendall said.

"Someone get the lights, I wanna make sure we can still see with all the black lights," Jennifer said once she finished getting her costume just right.

Logan turned the lights off and Jennifer turned the black lights on. It looked awesome. Kendall was excited for this.

Carlos, James, and Lucy entered the apartment. They were slightly out of breath. They took a moment to collect themselves as Logan grabbed their mad scientist coats and helped them get changed for the final surprise. Lucy chose to be a witch with Jennifer and Kendall.

"I totally scared the crap out of them, it was so funny," Carlos said excitedly.

"What about you guys," Kendall asked looking at James and Lucy.

"Lucy is amazing at coming up with stuff on the spot," James said.

"I told them a little Halloween story and it was epic," Lucy confirmed.

He checked his phone again as Camille texted him.

"They just left Camille's which means they have two more stops before they get here," Kendall said.

It wasn't long before Jo and Camille entered the apartment. They quickly changed into costumes as well with Camille joining the mad scientists and Jo joining the witches.

"This has been so much fun already," Camille said.

"Oh yeah, guys this was a great idea," Jo said nodding her head.

A knock at the door caught their attention.

"It's showtime," Logan said with a smile. He headed to his side of the apartment with Carlos, James, and Camille.

Jennifer, Jo, and Lucy headed over to the witches cauldron as Kendall answered the door.

—Happy Halloween Katie—

Katie and Tyler stopped in front of 2J. They had gotten quite a few more treats and tricks on their journey. Katie was wondering what was behind this door. She had yet to see Kendall or Logan on the adventure. She knew they probably had the best surprise for her.

"This is gonna be the big one," Katie said.

"This has been awesome," Tyler said, "do you wanna do the honors?" He asked.

She knocked on the door, wondering what Kendall had in store for her. She didn't have to wait long as Kendall opened the door. He was wearing a witch hat. He greeted them with a bow and congratulated them on making it to the end.

"You made it to the final trick and treat," Kendall said.

"And?" Tyler asked.

"You get both," Kendall replied as he ushered them into the apartment.

He quickly led them over to the witches station which had two cauldrons. One for Katie and one for Tyler. Jennifer and Jo were standing behind the cauldrons wearing witch costumes and safety glasses.

"It's about time my witches in training arrived," Jennifer said with a smile.

"What's this?" Katie asked, eyeing the cauldron.

"We are making witches brew," Jo said grabbing a glass from behind her cauldron. Inside the glass was an orange liquid. She held it out to Tyler. Jennifer grabbed one from hers with a like green liquid and held it out to Katie.

"In the cauldron?" Katie asked.

"Wait," Logan said, crossing the room. Katie looked at him. He nudged Kendall. "You forgot something." He grabbed the safety glasses on the table and told Tyler and Katie to put them on. Kendall grabbed his and put them on as well.

"Are we ready now?" Katie asked.

"Take like two steps back, everyone," Logan said.

"Do you wanna run this one?" Kendall asked.

"I'm the one who taught you," Logan said.

"Go back to your side," Kendall said, giving Logan a shove.

"Just remember that it has a thermal reaction and not to touch it right away," Logan said as he walked away.

"What?" Tyler asked.

"It gets hot so be careful," Kendall said.

"Oh, why didn't he just say that?" Tyler asked.

"Because he's Logan and he only talks smart," Kendall replied. Katie and Tyler laughed. Logan chucked candy across the room at him. "Ok let's do this, go ahead and make your witches brew."

Katie and Tyler dumped their glasses into the cauldrons and quickly backed up. Within seconds colored foam spouted from cauldrons. Katie and Tyler laughed and oohed at it.

"That was pretty cool," Katie said.

"Thanks," Logan said from the other side of the room.

"Now come over here and get a treat," Lucy said.

Katie and Tyler ran over to the mad scientist station. Lucy pulled out two tall glasses and started to make a drink.

"Don't worry it's all kid friendly and very magical," Lucy assures the two. She set the glasses down in front of them. They were filled with a clear drink.

"Magic?" Katie asked skeptically.

"Here," Lucy said holding out a small container that held some cotton candy in it. "Put it in the drink and be amazed." She said.

Katie took the candy and dropped it into her drink. Tyler followed suit. The candy dissolved and released color and glitter. Katie took her straw and mixed the drink a little.

"Ok that's awesome," Katie agreed. She took a sip and gave Lucy a thumbs up.

"Ok, and for the last bit, Katie you get to pick the scary movie we watch first," Kendall said.

"Nightmare on Elm Street," Katie said without missing a beat.

"I figured as much, it's all set up," Jennifer told her.

Lucy made more drinks for everyone else. They all settled around the living room for a scary movie marathon.

Kendall, however, started to clean up the witches brew. He didn't want to leave a mess for later. Katie joined him for a moment. She smiled up at him.

"Thanks, this was really fun," Katie said.

"Happy Halloween Katie," Kendall said, giving her a hug.

Katie took off back to her spot on the couch next to Carlos. They immediately started fighting over candy. Kendall chuckled and shook his head. Once he finished he joined Jo on the floor to watch the movie.
