Thoughts, dark and muffled. Mind left blank, nothing residing within its silent walls. The body stiff, motionless. Yet, despite its still appearance, a world unknown to literature moves along around it. Waves calmly crashing onto sandy beaches, trees with spreading leaves rustle in the wind along the uneven coastline. An unseen sun bearing warming light down chasing away the shadows in the denser jungles and deep caves Seashells casted aside in the sand, trees long dead lay down similar to the human body on the shore. Animals reside in the island, their bodies are those of ancient design. Their appearances, once lost to time, have returned, somehow. It's battle after battle, predator versus prey, friends against foes. Yet the secluded Island remains unchanged. But the winds change, the heat ripples. Floating pillars, Alien in design, flash with colored light. Everything will change, and this Island knows it. Something new washed up on its shores, a new creature, a new body, a new mind.
She lays motionless, long hair growing from her head left to waver in the ocean winds. But a noise, shrill and unruling, sweeps over the beach. Her blank mind fires to life, the pillars flash again.
My thoughts, ones I didn't know I had, rush into my conscience. I feel my eyes snap open, my vision blinded by beaming light. The same noise of shrilling squawks fill my ears, my vision adjusts. White birds with yellow feet fly by overhead, their small eyes watch over the shore for anything to eat. My lungs fill with air, a noise of a gasp emits from my mouth. I lunge up, kicking sand everywhere. "Help!" My voice travels past the palm trees, past rivers and ravines. Through caves and up mountains. Yet there is nobody to answer my call. My mouth slams shut, wide eyes drop down to confusion. I can't remember why I wanted to scream, but the resolve dropped. I take in a few ragged breaths, calming down to normalcy. I stare blankly ahead, small waves wash my bare feet.
I stare down at my hands, finding myself naked. I don't consciously know what clothes are, but I feel wrong not being covered up. My arms covered in sand, and a stinging sensation flowing through my wrist. I turn my hand over, scrunching my face. A diamond shaped module, made of shining metal, glowing with and orange light. The skin surrounding the shape is read and inflamed, like the implant was forced in. Damn, it's itchy. I try picking it off, yet it doesn't budge. So many words running through my head, I don't remember ever seeing them, but I can associate them with objects easily. I give up on taking the implant off, but itching it almost uncontrollably. I brush a fine layer of sand off, the smell of sea salt attacking my nose. A wall of ocean behind me, a large island ahead of me. My mind has no self thought, no questions. All I know is that I must survive, and right now, my stomach rumbles.
I wander past the sandy beach, the ground turning to dirt and light grass. Picking randomly at bushes. My mind assorting randomly through the berries I collect, ruling some as eatable. My hands get ahold of fairly round berries, with a dark skin. I almost toss them into my mouth, but I catch myself. A sort of words flash through my mind, stopping me. Narco berry. I study the berry, puzzling over it. Something blocks the humanity in my mind, keeping me on the same mindset as an animal. But the wall cracks, emotions that are liability seep through. What are these, why don't I want to eat them? My stomach backs off, the scent of the black berries makes me flinch. I stash them away, continuing on. My feet keep moving, my primitive side slowly wearing away. Memories come back, me screaming or help on a beach. My feet come to a stop, I spin around.
Through the trees of the growing jungle, I can spot the ocean on the horizon. The memory wavers. I clutch my head, realization floods through the wall. The hell? I shake my head around, feeling my primitive side wrestle with a more sophisticated mind. Why can't I remember? What I was just doing, the smell of black colored berries stained on my hands. The winds change, creatures I didn't see rush out of the jungle, disturbed by something. I grit my teeth, before something pops in my mind. My hands tingle, echoes of thumping heartbeats and roaring animals attack my mind. I collapse, falling on my back.
Hello? I struggle back to my feet, a facade of eating and drinking and sleeping for the rest of my life lifts from my eyes. My mind hungers purpose, it eats away at me. The words to shout for help come back, I keep my mouth shut. Where am I? My head whips around, finding trees and bushes every direction. The wall is gone, panic comes in. "Hello!?" Humanity gasps for breath, I find myself running, I don't know which direction to go. My bare feet stomp on wet grass, arms pumping to speed up. My voice calls out again, hoping something is listening. "Anyone!?" I sprint past boulders, vines, bamboo. Everything looks the same, I feel trapped physically and mentally. My ability to run diminishing, my throat feels parched. But without a single warning, bright light rips into my eyes.
I stutter to a stop, squinting. I try blocking the shin out with my hand, peering at the new area. My hand drops away, I stare ahead blankly, my mouth dropping.
It's a valley, stretching out. Grass wavers in the wind, pockets of trees surrounding towering boulders. But what throws me off, is there are fauna on this Island with me. Calls and grunts fill my ears, prehistoric beasts move by my vision. Some are large, with fanned heads and long spikes protruding out the skull. Others are smaller, that look like a large chicken. Some moving only on two legs, their heads shaped like a ladle. Two absolutely massive beasts, with long necks and appropriately long tails. Each step they take sends vibrations up my legs. Below them move others, sharp plates lining their backs, with even sharper spikes on their tails. I sit back, my thoughts of fear melt away. My eyes move across them, taking in the colors. They all move peacefully, grazing on the fine fields. But my eyes find another thing, my head slowly cranes up. A massive obelisk, floating off the ground. Surrounded by protruding rocks, with glowing metal interwoven. Its top is the same shape as the implant in my wrist. The colossal objects radiates a green light.
"Beautiful." I don't know why I said it out loud, but it's true. One of the ladle head shaped beasts trots by, it takes a passing glance at me. With a rumbling bugle, it moves by, taking a moment to snack on some bushes. My stomach growls, some of the primitive revives itself. I stumble over, hands plucking multicolor berries vigorously. The beats rears it's head, but doesn't act, going back to chewing on the leaves. I unconsciously cast the black and white berries aside. I've eaten some of the white berries before. They tasted way too starchy, and I felt a little hyper afterwards. I haven't eaten any black berries yet, but I'd rather not find out. During the snack, I fiddle around with the leaves, twisting them into lines. I find it curious, but I cats them aside as well. My thoughts then demand water, I slink down toward the green obelisk.
I drop down beside a running river, cupping my hands. Every beast I get near watch me, but they don't seem threatened. I stand up, satisfied. I feel a smile grow on my face. You know, this place isn't so bad. I wipe my mouth, glancing sideways. Still, it would be better with company. There is a loud bugle, one that filled with pain. I peek up, clenching my hands. Every peaceful animal around me arches their heads, going stiff. The horned beasts growl angrily, standing their ground. But the ladle shaped beasts let out a similar call, before turning tail and running. I whip around, searching for the commotion. Somewhere up the hill, back into the jungle, the bushes rustle violently. Large chickens flee the spot in concern, their heads sideways to look back. With a flash of colors a familiar ladle headed beast runs out of the trees, it's leg bleeding. My smile drops away.
Something new chases the ladle beast out of the jungle, moving quickly. More slim of a body, angular head, running on two legs. Its front arms ending in claws, feathers lining its elbows and the top of the head, with a spot on the tail. It's mouth filled with sharp teeth, scales of black and red. It leaps, its legs held outwards. I spot them, large sickle shaped talons, held out like hooks. It tackles the ladle headed beast, biting into its neck. Its hooked talons stick into the beast's side, keeping the violent creature latched on. With a quick struggle, the ladle headed beast, stops moving, it's neck crooked. The violent creature unlatched its jaw, a cackling hiss escapes its bloodied mouth. Without any warning, more flood out of the jungle, their slit eyes picking targets. Beasts run, some stand and fight. A horned beast is overpowered by three of them, before one of its friends, strikes one off its side. The black and red one watches it all unfold, standing atop its kill. The valley is filled with roars and cries, smaller creatures are picked off. The long necked beasts are nowhere to be found, the river gets dyed red. I stand frozen, my implant. Itches. The red and black creature stops its head, staring at me. We lock eyes, the creature tilts its head. But it snaps out of the trance, hissing. Its legs power forward, barreling down the hill. My heart drops, a cold feeling goes down my spine.
I've never run so fast in my life, even though I've only been "alive" for half a day. But I find myself on the other side of the river, sprinting for my life. The clawed creature of black and red scales pursues me, its eyes are cold and calculated. No, No,No,Nonono. The sun flashes away, I'm moving quickly between trees. I can hear it's footsteps trailing mine, talons clink on stones, another hissing cackle. I ditch the running attempt, lunging at the nearest tree. My hands find vines, I try climbing up. Something sharp digs into my legs, I scream out in raging pain. The clawed creature yanks me off, casting me away from the tree. I tumble through the bushes, my head smacking on leaves and twigs. My back finally crashes into the trunk of a kapok tree, a loud pop travels up my spine, I get the wind knocked out of me. The clawed creature doesn't delay, pouncing into the air. Mouth open, claws and hooked talons aimed at my chest. Without thinking I roll, the clawed creature misses me by a hair. My hands scramble for something to defend myself, finger finally landing on a stone. The clawed creature lunges its head forward, looking to bite my throat off. I swing wildly, screaming in rage. The stone slams into something.
The clawed creature rolls over my it's cold scales brushing my face. I struggle to my feet, clutching onto the stone. Through heavy breaths, any blurry vision, the clawed creature stutters getting up, crimson liquid runs down a new wound just behind this eye. It shakes, wincing. But it growls, vein filled eyes stare at me in hatred. It hisses, rearing up its claws. I don't hesitate, screaming as loud as I can. I charge, it dodges. A slash across my back, but my scream doesn't stop I whip around, swinging the stone around again. The clawed creature is caught in the jaw mid jump, I don't slow my assault. I strike again, hitting the clawed creature again and again. It tries running, its legs tripping over one another. I jump, feeling a searing pain shot down my leg. But I latch onto its throat, striking it on top the head multiple times. With a mix of primitive anger and humanity bleeding, I let out one last scream. "Die!" With one last strike just above the eye, the clawed creature's legs give out. It collapses, I'm thrown off. A blood stained stone rolls away, dirt and gravel get into my wounds. My head finally finds its target on the floor, I drag to a stop. My breath cut to hyperventilating, the edges of my vision red and beating. I cough, feeling my hands tingle.
The clawed creature stopped moving, its mouth hanging open. Fatigue and pain crawl all over me, my vision slowly darkens. I black out, laying in the jungle
