Issue #17: Goblin Empire, Part I

Amy looked at the sky, noticing the red clouds and vortex. She folded her hands hoping Sonic and the others could save the day from whatever that was.
It wasn't just her hoping either. Across two worlds were its heroes hoping something could be done. Rouge, Omega, Vector, Charmy, Espio, Daredevil, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage all watched as disaster struck with none of them aware of what was going on.
Madame Web sat in her empty room, her head hung low, "The time has come… Spider-Man's greatest trial awaits him…"
"And what if he fails?" Tikal asked her.
"Then all would be lost. I have done my best to guide him to Mobius with the Web of Life, I can only pray I set off the events that ensured our victory." Madame Web said.
Avengers Tower
Mary Jane watched the Quinjet fly off, leaving her and the Steel Spider to watch over her. She closed her eyes, wishing she could've joined.
But she knew the stakes were high, Osborn already took one member of their family. She didn't want to worry Peter over being captured too.
Ollie put on his armor, preparing for anything to happen now that Norman and Eggman made their move, the final battle beginning.
Sokovia
The Quinjet flew the fastest it ever went as they neared Goblin Castle. "Come on! We can't slow down now!" Spider-Man angrily shouted in the passenger's seat with Tails.
"I agree, Spidey! We're almost there!" Tails replied, gritting his teeth as they entered hostile territory.
"It seems your final battle is beginning." Madame Web called to the heroes.
Spider-Man jumped back in his seat, "Seriously, Web! Warn us next time!"
Madame Web replied, "My apologies, Spider-Man. I merely wish to speak of this matter."
"Can it wait? We're kinda in the middle of somethin' here!" Sonic asked.
"No. You all must know, though the times are dark, everything shall grow darker, the stability of the Web of Life is shattering, and only you heroes are the beacon of light among it." Web warned them, "Good luck, heroes."
"...Right. No pressure." Spider-Man groaned.
Peter and Kaine raised their heads, their Spider-Senses going off. "We might need to make a move out of here, kid!" Kaine warned Tails, noticing something was off.
Alas, the warning was too late. A turret shot a laser at one of the Quinjet's wings, "WHOA!" Sonic screamed, feeling the turbulence. He tried hanging onto something but wasn't able to.
Keeping his composure, Shadow kicked open one of the doors and said, "Everyone out. Now!" he ordered and took a leap, using his hover shoes to descend safely.
"Hulk going!" Hulk shouted, jumping after Shadow.
Knuckles quickly said, "I can glide but I can't hold anyone!"
"Then go!" Spider-Man told him. Knuckles nodded and jumped out as well.
Spider-Man stood up and ripped Tails' seatbelt so he could get out faster, "Get Sonic!" he told Tails who did so. Iron Man ensured Wolverine safely got out while Spider-Man used his jet thrusters to get himself and Kaine out of the Quinjet safely. It spun out of control and landed in a forest, exploding once it reached the ground.
"Everyone okay?" Sonic asked the team once they were all accounted for.
Wolverine dusted himself off, "We are, furball. Looks like we were seen comin'."
"Should've realized Osborn and Eggman would want us gone before we even showed up." Iron Man commented, "We're near the castle anyway." he said, seeing the metallic base not too far away from them.
Scowling under his mask, Peter said, "He wants us to face him up close and personal." he deduced.
Knuckles said, "Then what are we waiting for? Let's bash their faces in!"
"Ohohoho!" cackled a gruff voice. A hologram appeared, revealing the transparent form of Dr. Eggman, "You finally made it at last."
"Eggman…" Sonic growled.
"You and I haven't been properly introduced yet. I'm the guy who's gonna web you up and send you to the Negative Zone personally for working with that madman…" Spider-Man coldly quipped.
Eggman grinned, "An empty threat, Spider-Man. We've been at work preparing the best welcome wagon for someone of your caliber!"
Sonic tapped his foot, "It's not like ya to hide in the shadows for so long, Egghead. What's your game this time?"
Eggman shook his head, "As if I'll tell you, you annoying rodent!"
"You better start talking or Hulk over here will get you to talk. He's not exactly afraid of making bruises." Iron Man warned the Doctor.
Adjusting his glasses, Eggman said, "I hoped a man of your intellect could see that we have the perfect countermeasures for someone even as strong as the Hulk."
"But Hulk strongest there is!" Hulk declared.
"That's not what happened last time." Eggman mocked him.
"HULK WILL SMASH EGGFACE!" Hulk yelled back at the insult.
"Now you're talking my language, Hulk. We've had it with you, Eggman. Now come and face us! No way even you can beat all of us!" Knuckles demanded.
Eggman's grin grew wider, "Why should I when I have so many other things to show you first?" he mysteriously asked before shutting down the projection. The doors to Goblin Castle opened, surprising the heroes.
Spider-Man stood in front of the team. "...Brace yourselves. Something is coming." he warned his friends, his Spider-Sense tingling. He zoomed in on his lenses, and saw what was coming out of the castle, "...Oh my God…"
"What's up, Spidey?" Sonic asked. He looked ahead, his demeanor dropping, "...Oh."
A swarm of mindless monsters similar to the Goblin King began to stampede towards the heroes, all with the intent to kill. "Are those… Green Goblins?" Tails asked, "Where did they all come from?"
"...Warren." Kaine realized, unleashing one of his stingers and driving it through one of the clones, killing them and having them disappear into dust instantly, "That explains why he got the cloning tech, he wanted a Goblin army…"
"Clones, I hate clones…" Spider-Man sighed, elbowing one of the Goblinoids in the nose, breaking it. The Goblinoid lashed out and tackled him, pinning him to the ground. Peter kicked him back and used a taser web to shock him into unconsciousness.
"Gee thanks.." Scarlet Spider muttered sarcastically.
Spider-Man yanked back a Goblinoid from his clone and said, "You're different. You're my brother." he told him.
"Can we save the sappiness after we annihilate Osborn's clone army?!" Shadow huffed, throwing a Chaos Spear at a Goblin clone, causing it to scream in agony as it got to its knees and fell on its stomach.
"I dunno, Shadow. Some optimism would be good right now." Iron Man quipped, using his repulsors to shoot down some Goblinoids. However, one threw a fireball at him, causing him to get disoriented.
"Tony!" Tails shouted, activating his new watch and revealing his own yellow repulsor gauntlet, shooting the Goblin that hit Stark, "Ha! Wow this really works!"
"Told you it's as good as the real deal!" Iron Man said.
"You should've been focused instead of cracking jokes." Shadow said stoically, using his hover boots to roundhouse kick a Goblinoid in the back of the head. He was then promptly tackled down by another from behind, causing Iron Man to save him.
"That's the thing, Shadow. I always do. You and Cap both say that and like Cap I'm the one bailing him out." Stark quipped.
Shadow narrowed his eyes, "Hmph."
Sonic used a Homing Attack on a Goblinoid, getting smacked aside when he uncurled. Sliding on his feet, he performed a Rolling Attack and tripped the clone down, backflipping and Spin-Dashing him until it decomposed from the damage, "I wish the real Norman would go down this easily!"
Spider-Man webbed up one from the back, saying, "He must've only copied his body. These would be a lot tougher if they were all as cruel and vicious as the real Norman!" he explained. He took a fireball to the chest, his chest plate thankfully absorbing it, "Okay ow…" he held his chest as he got up from the attack. Peter leaped into the air and punched the Goblinoid in the face as hard as he could, causing it to tumble backwards and collapse.
"GRAH!" snarled Wolverine, taking a fire-covered fist to the face. He unleashed his claws and stabbed right through the clone that did it to him, causing it to turn to dust, "Damn clone…" he muttered.
Knuckles uppercutted a Goblinoid into the air, prompting Wolverine to leap after it and stab it, getting pinned to the ground before vanishing thanks to Logan, "Nice one." the echidna complimented.
"Not everyday I get to use my claws on Norman. Might as well do it with some style." Wolverine quipped.
A Goblinoid managed to slash Sonic, creating a wound on his chest, "Hey! Uncool!" the hedgehog shouted, bashing his foot against the clone's cheek, "Lend me a hand here, little bro!" he suggested.
"Got it!" Tails replied, shooting the Goblinoid with a repulsor blast in the chest before it could recover.
Hulk jumped and stomped on one of the Goblinoids, snarling and spitting everywhere as he roared, "HULK HATE GOBLINS! HULK SMASH OSBORN! HULK STRONGEST THERE IS! NOT FAKE BIG GOBLIN!" he declared, stepping on the Goblinoid's face repeatedly until he disappeared into a pile of dust.
Sonic blinked, "I think he got the idea, big guy." he quipped.
"Hulk not done." the green goliath replied. He clapped his hands, creating a shockwave that sent numerous Goblinoids back. One of the clones responded by throwing a fireball to his face. The Hulk grabbed his leg and started using him as a weapon, slamming him at the other Goblinoids charging at him and not giving them a chance to attack, he threw the clone at Shadow who hit it with a Homing Attack Combo, driving his foot directly through it and making him vanish.
Kaine kept his stingers out and rammed it right through the chin of a Goblinoid, making it fall as it disappeared, "Damn fakes holding us back…" he grunted.
"I'm not sure how long we can keep this up for." Tails said.
"Kid's right. Feels like we're wasting time taking these clones on." Iron Man added.
Spider-Man headbutted a Goblinoid, keeping it distracted long enough so that he could web them to the ground face first, "What are our options then? Leave them to rampage across the world?!" he asked.
Hulk grabbed a clone by the throat and threw it aside, "Hulk want to keep smashing fake Goblins!"
"I'm with Hulk on this!" Knuckles admitted.
"We got friends across the planet who can take them on. Right now, we have a Goblin and Doctor to stop, as well as a hostage." Iron Man added.
Spider-Man's eyes narrowed, "He's right. Make haste everyone! We can have the Goblins chase us!"
The heroes charged for the now open doors of Goblin Castle, the entryway being larger than any of them expected. Once they and the Goblinoids were in, Spider-Man webbed down the doors to keep everyone inside, "There! Now it's just them and us!" Spider-Man boasted.
"You have made a foolish mistake entering our domain." mocked a sinister growly voice.
"That you, Osborn? What? Got bored of Eggman doing all your talking for ya?" Sonic joked.
"The Doctor is merely making his final preparations to annihilate you, rodent. He'll make sure to leave the Spider alive however so can die knowing that." Norman chuckled.
Spider-Man crossed his arms, webbing the Goblinoids back, "You got some nerve thinking you'll win, Norman. Tell me where she is!" he shouted.
"Patience, Parker. You will see her in due time."
Loud stomping caused the castle to shake, bringing the Goblin King to laugh, "The guests of honor are prepared it seems."
Breaking through a wall was none other than Eggman in a mech shaped after the Goblin King, "You have gotten in my way for the last time, Sonic! Prepare to meet your end at the hands of the Egg Goblin!"
"Egg Goblin? Really?" Spider-Man shook his head.
"The name will mean nothing once I utterly destroy you!" Eggman snarled.
"HULK SMASH GIANT EGG!" Hulk shouted.
Spider-Man shot a web-line at the top of Eggman's mech and zipped off it, driving his armored legs directly onto the glass-covered cockpit, "Nice to meet ya, Eggman! How about a kick to the face as a greeting?" he quipped, flipping so that he could miss the laser that was aimed at him.
"Grr…" Eggman growled.
Shadow threw a Chaos Spear at the Egg Goblin's missile, shorting it out. He picked it up in midair and threw it back at Eggman, causing it to damage one of the mech's arms, "Pathetic, Doctor." he mocked.
"How dare you! You'll pay for that!" Eggman shouted at the top of his lungs.
"Impressive work, Doc. It still pales in comparison to my armor." Iron Man mocked him, shooting some missiles at the scientist.
"Believe me, Stark. This mech outshines your designs thanks to one simple thing!" Eggman declared, activating the Chaos Emerald he was using as a battery.
The Egg Goblin's mouth was charging an energy laser, Knuckles catching on, "The last emerald! Everyone run!"
"HULK NOT RUN!" Hulk shouted, jumping in front of the laser and taking it, the beam bouncing off of his body.
"WHAT?!" Eggman gasped in disbelief at the Hulk's power, "THAT'S NOT POSSIBLE!"
"Sure as hell possible with the big guy!" Wolverine joked, using his claws to cut through the Goblinoids that still tried to attack them.
The Scarlet Spider's Spider-Sense went off along with Peter's. The Spider-Duo leaped away from Eggman's missile assault, Kaine taking the force of the explosion and tumbling on the ground, "KAINE!" Spider-Man shouted in despair over his brother. Kaine did get up, but needed a moment to get his bearings.
'No. Can't give into the symbiote's rage here… Not yet anyway…' Peter thought to himself, trying to suppress the symbiote's own emotional outburst.
"Hurt one of our own? You mess with us!" Sonic warned Eggman, he used a Homing Attack on the Egg Goblin before getting smacked aside by one of the mech's hands. He was launched so hard he bounced off a wall, but was promptly saved by Tails, "Thanks buddy…"
"No problem! We need to get that emerald out of his hands!" Tails said.
Hulk roared and jumped as high as he could. Eggman's eyes widened under his glasses as Banner came closer to him. Eventually the Hulk shattered the glass with his fists, grabbed Eggman with one hand and the Chaos Emerald in his other, shutting down the mech.
"Hulk found egg guy and shiny rock." Hulk said.
Eggman managed a grin and laughed, "What's so funny? You lost." Spider-Man wondered.
"Please. As if I'd go down that easily. That was just a warmup!" Eggman cackled.
Suddenly without warning, Sonic and Spider-Man were caught in a bright light, getting separated from the rest of the team, "What did you do to them?!" Iron Man asked the doctor, holding him up on the air.
"Norman wanted them as an audience! So I was happy to oblige so long as I got to decimate the rest of you!" Eggman revealed.
Eggman nabbed the Chaos Emerald and created an aura around him that shielded himself from Knuckles' incoming punch, "Ohohoho!" the scientist laughed.
"Put that down now!" Knuckles ordered him, trying to reach for the emerald.
"I will do no such thing, echidna!" Eggman mocked.
"Got some guts working with Osborn like this. You know he's not out to have a team right?" Iron Man told him.
"Nonsense! My involvement has been imperative." Eggman replied.
"Hmph. Norman's only out for himself, doc. Always has, always will." Kaine taunted him, trying to grab the emerald but Eggman's enhanced abilities allowed him to move as swift as needed. One of the Goblinoids tried hitting him but he leaped over his arm and drove a stinger through its chest, causing it to vanish.
"Just a damn distraction… Sure of it.. We gotta wrap this up…" Wolverine snarled, slashing at the Goblinoids surrounding him.
Eggman said, "That you'll have to figure out… if you catch me anyway!" he pressed a button on his wrist and activated a set of makeshift armor to combat the heroes.
The scientist started shooting at the heroes. Iron Man and Tails worked together to deflect some, Stark saying, "Not bad aim, kid. Just keep doing what you're doing."
"I will!" Tails insisted, keeping Eggman busy.
Scarlet Spider leaped behind Eggman, "What the-?"
"Surprised? Here's a little payback for that missile earlier." Kaine quipped, punching Eggman's jetpack, causing it to short out a bit.
"No! That's still a fragile prototype!" Eggman yelled.
"Shouldn't have said that, doc!" Wolverine chuckled, using his claws to deflect the laser pellets shooting out of Eggman's shoulder-mounted cannons.
"Darn beast!" Eggman insulted.
Wolverine gritted his teeth and jumped up, putting his claws around his throat, "Wanna try those words on me again, doc? I ain't the blue furball and him and kid ain't here."
"N-No wait! I concede!" Eggman gulped, sneakily tazing Logan and causing him to fall to the floor, "Sucker."
"Chaos Spear!" Shadow yelled, shorting out Eggman's tech, "Come on now, Doctor. This was only going to end one way. Our victory and your defeat."
"S-Says you…" Eggman boasted while trying to reactivate his armor, setting off the lasers to full throttle once more. They went all around the room, intending to hit their targets. Iron Man took one to the shoulder, causing the armored limb to be displaced from the shoulder joint temporarily.
"Crap. Give me a minute, team." Iron Man said, trying to adjust the armor. Tails covered for him as he blasted the Goblinoids back from harming him.
Knuckles uppercutted a Goblinoid and threw it at Eggman, "Take this!"
"Eep!" Eggman screamed.
Hulk held his arms up to shield himself from the blasts. With each step he got closer to the doctor, until eventually he and Shadow were up close and personal. Eggman's mustache drooped as Hulk punched him in the face, knocking him out while Shadow destroyed his tech, using its explosion radius to wipe out the remaining Goblinoids.
"Puny doctor." Hulk mocked.
Scarlet Spider knelt down and grabbed the Chaos Emerald, "Someone carry the doc. We gotta find Sonic and Parker." he told them.
"On it, Kaine. My armor's all good. Let's go." said Iron Man, carrying Eggman's unconscious body.
Sonic and Spider-Man reappeared in a dark, empty room, wondering where they were. "Huh?" Sonic wondered, turning his head to get a look at his surroundings.
"What is this place?" Spider-Man asked.
"Are the spider and hedgehog confused? Here, allow me to show you." Norman said, turning on the lights to the room.
Once the shock of the lights turning on wore off, Sonic and Peter's eyes widened once they saw what was in front of them. Four costumed heroes were chained up, clearly exhausted, beaten and near death and surrounded by a large machine with a beam shooting out of it, "...The Avengers…" Peter gasped, surprised to find them in such poor condition.
"They're the other Avengers? Osborn roughed them up real bad…" Sonic muttered.
One of them opened his eyes, that Avenger being Captain America, "...S-Spider-Man…? W-Who is that…?"
Spider-Man kneeled down to try removing the chains, "Yeah Cap, it's me. This guy next to me is Sonic. We're gonna get you and the other Avengers out of here."
"I wouldn't do that if I were you, Spider." Norman cackled.
"Leave us… We know about your aunt..." Cap assured him, "...She needs your help more than we do right now…"
"You sure?" Sonic wondered.
Captain America nodded, "I am… Stop Norman and Eggman…"
Pausing for a moment, Peter said, "...Alright. But we'll be right back for you. I'm not failing the Avengers today either."
Managing a smile, Cap said, "You won't…"
Turning around, Sonic and Spider-Man saw the Goblin King and Zero. The former had May held down while the jackal held his sword to her throat. Peter growled, "...Let her go right now."
Norman smirked, "I'm afraid I can't do that, Spider. She's caught in our little game."
"You think this is a game? You're more twisted than I thought, Goblin…" Sonic snarled.
"You surely are new to our endeavors, rodent. When it comes to Spider-Man, I wish to tear apart everything he holds dear. He's wronged me so many times it is the only satisfaction I can find in this life." revealed the Goblin King.
May had tears in her eyes, worried for her nephew and friend more than her own life. With a sigh of resolve she said, "Peter…"
"Don't worry, Aunt May. I'm getting you out of this somehow!" Peter assured her. He got to his knees, as did Sonic. Spider-Man removed his helmet, "...Okay Norman… You win." he declared.
"Yeah Norman… I'm not letting you hurt her on my watch either." Sonic said.
"Excellent. I knew you'd listen to reason." the Goblin King taunted them.
"No!" May shouted.
"Wretched woman!" Zero snarled.
"AUNT MAY NO!" Peter and Sonic shouted.
"Do not surrender to him, Peter! Do not—!"
May paused, feeling something on her chest. The Goblin King had taken the jackal's sword and stabbed the elder woman with it, "NO!" the heroes screamed as Sonic caught her, having moved in a haste.
"You truly forgot what this was all about, Parker. I can't succeed if I play this fairly." Goblin taunted Peter with a maniacal grin.
Peter ran over and held May in his arms. Tears started pouring down his face as he said, "It'll be okay Aunt May… just relax, I'll get you out of here right now…" he quickly tried to assure her, "I-I'm so sorry,,,"
"Y-Yeah, I can make a quick r-run…" Sonic also tried assuring her, not used to seeing a wound like that before.
May weakly put a hand to Peter's cheek, "N-No Peter… it's alright…" she coughed, "You've done so much to keep me going… even at my most frail… Don't… Don't let this haunt you like Ben… I'll be with him now… Just… you two stop this madman please…"
"We will, Aunt May. Promise…" Sonic replied in despair.
"...I love you, Peter…." May said quietly.
"I-I love you too, Aunt May…" Peter said, watching the life fade from her body. Her eyes closed, her hand dropped and Peter heard her exact last breath.
"An old woman like her, still gone before her time. Truly a pity isn't it Parker?" Norman mocked him, "Our game always leads to death and destruction, and your loved ones always pay the price from the looks of it."
Zero shook his head, "How pathetic that you thought this would end any other way."
Spider-Man listened to all this while cradling his aunt's body in his arms. Tears poured down his face and eventually his vision was red with rage. In an instant, the symbiote covered his body. After carefully placing May down on the ground, Peter jumped and punched Zero right in the muzzle, causing him to split blood.
"YOU WANT TO MAKE THIS A GAME?! THEN LET'S GO YOU SICK BASTARDS!" Spider-Man snarled, "I'LL SHOW YOU HOW FUNNY I FIND THIS!" he roared, using the symbiote to create claws to slash Zero's face.
"GRAH!" Zero yelled in pain, rubbing the deep wound on his face.
Sonic growled and charged a Spin-Dash in his spot, glowing blue orbs surrounding his body. In a split second he started to glow and vanished. Before Zero could even react, he was pummeled by blue blurs surrounding him. Sonic was using the Light-Speed Dash to attack the jackal before he even had a chance to know what was happening.
On all angles Sonic struck, "What-?" Zero hissed before getting elbowed, punched, kicked, Spin-Dashed, Homing Attacked, Sonic did everything he could to lay the smackdown on the jackal mercenary.
Eventually, Sonic stopped. The jackal tried holding up his sword and lunged at Sonic, but his beaten form couldn't last and he collapsed on the spot. Sonic scowled at him, "You're not even worth an Eggman beatdown. Sick and twisted monster…" he muttered in complete disgust.
"Yes good, Parker. Give into your rage." Norman insisted to him.
"I WILL! I DON'T CARE ANYMORE! I'VE GIVEN YOU TOO MANY PASSES! THIS TIME YOU'RE DYING FOR REAL!" Spider-Man told him, choking Osborn with a symbiote tendril. He started slamming him across the floor, dragged his face and pinned him to a wall.
"Hehehe! This is exactly how I dreamed this moment! The day you fulfilled the legacy I hoped from you, boy!" Goblin kept taunting him.
"I AM NOT YOUR LEGACY!" Peter declared, "YOUR WORDS MEAN NOTHING TO US!" his face began to morph into Venom's, "WE WILL EAT YOUR BRAINS!"
"Whoa whoa, Pete!" Sonic shouted, getting between Peter and Osborn.
"Get out of my way Sonic… You saw what he did…" Peter growled, his voice echoing with the symbiote, "I have to end this now. He's treating this like a game, and I want to end it once and for all."
"I don't want you doing something you'll regret. You want to do it now, but I got a bad feeling you'll one day regret having blood on your hands like this…" Sonic tried easing him, explaining his stance, "I want Osborn to pay, believe me… but we do it the way we know how."
"No Peter. Do not listen to him. Show him that you're as monstrous as I dreamed." Norman declared.
Spider-Man's lenses narrowed, he glared at Osborn… and then let him go, "You're right, Sonic. You hear that Norman? You're not even worth my anger anymore, you're a sick freak who deserves nothing but pure disgust."
The Goblin King scowled, "Bah! You're as as much of a disappointment as Harry! You could've ended the pain… but it looks like I'll have to do it for you!"
"Give it your best shot, Norman." Spider-Man demanded his nemesis.
"Guys wait!"
Tails shouted as the rest of the team entered the room. They all looked down and saw Aunt May, Knuckles covering the fox's eyes. "You disgusting bastard…" was all Iron Man could say.
"I'll snap your neck myself…" Kaine hissed. He looked at Sonic and Spider-Man, "But I'll leave this to the actual heroes."
Shadow threw the Chaos Emeralds to the duo. The Goblin King smirked at that, "I must thank you, heroes."
"What?" Knuckles asked.
"The Tablet of Order and Chaos was merely one part of this. The seven Chaos Emeralds were the second half, though I lost them for a bit you brought them all back to me. And for that I must thank you." Norman revealed, channeling the negative energy of the Chaos Emeralds.
"No!" Sonic shouted, trying to fight back, but the Goblin's dark aura launched him back.
"What's he doing?!" Spider-Man asked.
"U-Using the Chaos Emeralds' power!" Sonic answered his friend.
Osborn got to a knee, the negative energy consuming his body. He stood up, revealing his still enlarged form covered in black, "Excellent. My research was sound. I am far beyond a mere Goblin King. I am the DARK GOBLIN!" he began to float and held up the Tablet of Order and Chaos, removing it from the Genesis machine, leaving it unstable.
"Are you mad, Norman?!" Iron Man asked.
"I am not mad, Stark. I am merely enlightened!" Dark Goblin bragged, causing a vortex to open in the sky, consuming the world into darkness, "The machine is pointless! I have the powers of a god and then some, reality is mine to control!"
"W-What do we do, Sonic?" Spider-Man asked.
"...We use the Chaos Emeralds." Sonic declared, raising his hand so that the Chaos Emeralds hovered around them.
"Alright. Just tell me what to do." Spider-Man nodded, retracting the symbiote.
"Feel that energy?" Sonic asked him.
"I do."
Sonic nodded, "Let it flow through you. Focus. And you'll see what'll happen."
Peter did as instructed, closing his eyes and focusing on the Chaos Energy in his body. The rest of the team shielded their eyes as the heroes transformed. Sonic was now yellow with red eyes and his quills spiked up. Spider-Man's armor was now gone, replaced with a yellow version of his costume, white covering where the blue once was.
"Whoa… This feels… amazing." Super Spider-Man said.
"I know. Come on now, we got a Dark Goblin to take down." Super Sonic agreed.
"Right!" Super Spider-Man replied.
The two Super heroes flew to the sky, confident and ready for their final battle for the fate of every world.
Author's Note: That was a doozy to write. As strange as shaking things up in a story like this may seem, I do have a plan and I hope I succeed in executing it for you guys. Next chapter is the final battle, and it'll certainly be a chaotic one.
