Epilogue: One End, More Beginnings
Spider-Man swung into the empty apartment of Madame Web, examining the Web of Life while saying, "...Hey M-Dubs. Been a while…"
"I suppose it's nice to see you too, Spider-Man." Cassandra said.
"Look I just have to ask… everything that happened… was all that part of your future vision or whatever? I promise I won't be upset… this time anyway." Peter wondered.
Madame Web shook her head, "I did not foresee what transpired… my connection to the Great Web was faltering thanks to Norman's usage of the Tablet of Order and Chaos. Had I known… I would've prevented his actions…"
Spider-Man looked down, "Right… Anyway… is the tablet somewhere safer?"
"It is. With the aid of Doctor Strange the Tablet of Order and Chaos is in another realm far beyond the reaches of madmen like Norman and Eggman." Madame Web revealed.
"Cool, cool. Look I wish I could chat more about my questions but—" Peter was cut off.
"Say no more. You have more pressing matters to attend to." Web assured him. Peter nodded and swung off, leaving Cassandra alone again.
With a heavy sigh, Madame Web said, "The battle is not yet over… I fear one specific strand of the Great Web shall come into play soon…" she muttered.
Harlem Cemetery
Peter could only watch with tears in his eyes as his beloved Aunt May's casket was slowly placed into the ground. Mary Jane was by his side, heartbroken by what Norman had done as she too had tears running down her face.
It was a heartfelt service, everyone May had known attended, and even those close to Peter like Ollie and Kaine were there to support him in this tragic hour.
"I'm… I'm gonna miss her…" whispered Peter, wiping his tears.
"I will too, Pete. She was… like a Mother to me…" Mary Jane admitted.
"I know, MJ… She… she was always there for us…" Peter replied.
"Even me when I didn't deserve it…" Kaine mumbled.
"Come on Kaine… you are family now…" Peter offered his brother a genuine hug, an offer the clone actually accepted, "We gotta stick together… For her sake…"
Kaine managed a nod, "You're right… For her…"
Ollie sighed, "It's a shame… I wish I could've stopped Norman."
"Osborn is tricky like that, Ollie… He caught all of us off guard…" Peter told his former protege.
"You did good staying in New York… Don't let this dwell in you…" Mary Jane said.
"I-I won't…" Osnick said.
"You guys can go… I'll need some time…" Peter insisted.
"You know I'm not gonna do that." MJ told him.
"...You're right. All of you can stay. You guys are family and she would want to see us together." Peter decided, standing next to May's grave, which was next to his Uncle Ben.
Unknown to them however, Sonic and Tails watched the service from a distance. Tails cried, "It shouldn't have happened…"
"I agree, little bro…" Sonic replied quietly then looked at the grave, "I promise, Pete… I'll make sure nothing happens to your family ever again on my watch…"
Avengers Tower
Peter sadly placed a photo of Aunt May and himself on his work desk. He sighed, thinking, 'Osborn's beaten but he still won… but I can't give up… not when I still have people counting on me…'
He heard a knock on his door, getting him out of his stupor. Curious, he turned his head and saw Sonic, "Oh hey, Sonic. You okay?" he asked, curious about the hedgehog's well-being.
Sonic nodded, "Yeah, I'm hurt too… but I'll be fine with time. Knuckles went back to the Master Emerald and Shadow's with GUN. I, uh, got some news for ya."
"What's up?" Peter wondered.
"Tails and I were talkin' and… we decided we should stick around on Earth for the moment." Sonic revealed.
"...Really?" Spider-Man questioned in surprise.
The hedgehog shrugged, "Yeah I mean, the Chaos Emeralds are out there somewhere on this planet and well… I think the both of us could use the company. I'll still go to Mobius for any emergencies but right now… I feel like spending time with my two bros could help me out as much as I hope it'll help you."
Peter gave him a smile, "You're always welcome here, Sonic. And thanks, I mean that."
"No problem, Pete." Sonic responded.
Unknown location
Deep within in a dark laboratory, Norman Osborn was placed on a life support machine, currently comatose from his beatdown at the hands of Sonic and Spider-Man.
Eggman dusted himself off along with Zero, "Ngeh… Cursed heroes getting in the way. We're lucky to have escaped the rift quietly. Time to initiate Plan B I suppose."
"And what's that supposed to be?" the jackal asked.
"You'll see." the scientist teased and turned on his monitor and examined his plans and contacts, "Ohohoho. Excellent! All these people will prove great distractions until Norman wakes up and everything is complete."
Turning his head, Eggman examined the conch shell, already hatching a scheme he could let someone take the bait for.
New York
A red rift appeared in what was normally a dull alleyway. Hopping out of it was a figure clad in a white hoodie, black contrasts on the chest down to the rest of her costume and green shoes. The woman grunted, rubbing her aching head, "The hell…?"
She looked around, seeing that she was in an empty alley, "Damn it. You enter one rift and suddenly a migraine happens…" she cursed, the pain still there. She took off her mask to wipe the sweat off her.
"Might as well see where I ended up. Hopefully it's somewhere good." said Gwen Stacy, the Amazing Spider-Woman.
Author's Note: And with this, Worlds Collide is finally complete. I apologize for how long it's taken, but I'm gonna try to push on with the rest of this series even quicker.
But now the saga can kick into full gear. A lot's gonna happen as I build up to the arc's endgame. The next saga won't be as high-stakes, but for Peter and Sonic it'll definitely be something that'll affect them personally. And though I wanted the story to be an adaptation, I felt it was better to try something original to fit with what I have in store.
So see you all next time for Web of Chaos: Deadly Adventure.
