Chapter Four

It was Wednesday morning. Wednesday, the day that Blaine was supposed to hang out with Kurt after school at the Lima Bean. Blaine woke up and still had butterflies in his stomach, but this time, he was pretty sure that they were from nerves.

Why was he so nervous? He was just hanging out with his friend Kurt, no big deal.

His friend Kurt that had implied, just last night, that he thought Blaine was beautiful. Absolutely perfect and astonishing Kurt with eyes that made Blaine want to drop everything and kiss Kurt senseless and his sharp jawline that Blaine wanted to trace with his tongue.

Woahhhh. Okay, let's stop before these thoughts stray somewhere bad.

Right as Blaine started gelling his hair, he heard his phone buzz and he, too quickly, washed the gel off of his hands and opened his phone.

Kurt: where do u live lmfao

What?

Blaine: umm may i ask why first?

Kurt: i'm giving you a ride this morning, so we can get coffee right after school

Kurt: i mean unless u wanna drive urself idrc

Oh. Huh.

Blaine: oh no that sounds good! here i'll send you my address

Kurt: alright cool, see u in about 15 minutes?

Blaine: see you then :))

Was the smiley face too much? It was probably too much. Oh god. What if he thinks I'm a creep? It's fine. It's fine. Just focus on getting ready and don't worry too much.

That didn't end up happening, as Blaine spent about 17 minutes half getting ready but mostly panicking until he heard a car pull into his driveway, and he could only assume that it was Kurt's car. He practically sped down the stairs at an ungodly speed, forgetting about the small decorative table at the bottom of the stairs. Blaine ran into it at full speed, knocking over the table and sending down a vase full of flowers to the ground with it.

"Ooooowwwww" Blaine groaned and rubbed right above his knee where he had hit the table.

I'll pick it up later when I get home, can't be late for Kurt! He thought to himself and rushed out the door.

Blaine opened his front door and waved, probably too enthusiastically, to Kurt, sitting in his beautiful Lincoln Navigator.

Kurt gave an amused look and gave a mock wave back.

Blaine opened the door and practically beamed while saying, "Goodmorning"

"Somebody's particularly enthusiastic this morning"

"Oh. Sorry"

"You're good. It's cute"

Blaine felt himself turning red so he tried to change the topic, "Are you excited to read the Great Gatsby in English?"

"Anderson, who would ever be excited to do something for school?" Kurt said, while pulling out of Blaine's driveway and starting on their way to school.

"True, just trying to make conversation. Also fun fact, even though I love reading, I actually hate the Great Gatsby so I'm actually not even excited to read it"

"Oh my fucking God"

"What?"

"You're so talkative!"

Blaine ducked his head while muttering, "Sorry"

"No! No that's not what- Don't be sorry! I just meant that so far, for the most part, you've just been quiet and awkward and I like that you're talking more, I like hearing you talk"

Blaine smiled, "Well in that case…"

Blaine spent the majority of the ride to school talking about his favorite (and least favorite) books, and he honestly wasn't surprised to find out that Kurt had a lot of favorite books in common with Blaine, such as Harry Potter. Blaine discovered that Kurt was a slytherin and Blaine couldn't help but think about how Kurt was the slytherin to Blaine's hufflepuff. Cheesy, right?

Kurt pulled into his parking spot at school, turned off the engine, and sat facing towards Blaine.

"Well. We might as well get to Lit now. Maybe we can convince Mrs. Lopez to let us read Harry Potter instead of The Great Gatsby"

Blaine laughed and let Kurt walk him to class. The rest of the class was pretty boring, he had no chance to talk to Kurt, but he was still elated from their conversation that morning and was excited for their coffee "date" later in the day.

Lunch went by excruciatingly slow, and Blaine just wanted the day to hurry up so he could spend some more time talking to Kurt. He could talk to Kurt right now at lunch, especially since Kurt was sitting right next to him, but it was better to talk to him alone, without the vicious glares of the glee club members. Other than Tina and Mike, Blaine honestly didn't know any of the other members too well yet, and he wasn't sure that any of them really liked Blaine.

Just then, Blaine felt his phone buzz, so he pulled it out.

Mike: You okay man?

Blaine looked up at Mike and Tina sitting together on one chair, diagonal from Blaine's seat. Blaine made eye contact with the two quickly before typing out a message back.

Blaine: uh yeah, why?

Mike: You've barely said anything since you got to the table, and your leg won't stop bouncing.

Blaine looked down and was made aware that, yes, he was bouncing his leg under the table. It was a nervous habit that he had always had but usually failed to remember that it existed.

Blaine: yeah i'm fine, just nervous about the calc quiz.

Mike: You're a genius! Don't ever doubt that dude. Plus, it's just a placement test so it won't even count for a grade.

Blaine stared at his phone and smiled, not used to being complimented by… well… by anybody, really.

"Somebody special?" Kurt stated while glaring at Blaine's phone.

"No," Blaine said while putting his phone back in his pocket.

You're the only 'somebody special' in my life, Kurt.

Finally, in what seemed like forever, school was over and Blaine found himself practically skipping to Kurt's car in the parking lot. He saw Kurt already standing there, waiting for him.

"Hey!" Blaine exclaimed while opening the door to get into the car.

"Hi," Kurt stated, not even looking in Blaine's direction.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing"

"Are you sure?"

"Leave it, Anderson"

"Kurt I'm sorry if-"

"NOT NOW! Just shut up" Kurt yelled.

Kurt pulled out of the parking lot and not a word was said between the two all the way to the Lima Bean. Neither of them even dared looking in the others direction. What had gone wrong? Had Blaine already messed everything up? And if there was one thing Blaine Anderson hated more than anything, it was confrontation and yelling. As much as he tried to hold them back, tears started making their way down his cheeks. He quickly wiped them away when Kurt pulled into the parking lot, hoping Kurt hadn't seen.

Kurt put the car into park and turned towards Blaine. Apparently he'd seen Blaine's tears, because he softly whispered, "Blaine" and pulled him into an embrace.

It was oddly intimate for two guys who, honestly, barely knew each other, but Blaine didn't spend too much time thinking about that because right now he was being held by Kurt. Kurt, who was easily the kindest person that Blaine had met, even if he had his moments of cruelty, like earlier. Blaine let himself be held by Kurt, Kurt's hands snaking around Blaine's waist and holding him close. Blaine closed his eyes and let his head rest on Kurt's shoulder. The hug was a bit awkward because it's quite difficult to hug somebody in a car, but Blaine still appreciated it. He was practically shaking, probably because he had never been this close to such an attractive boy before, but he quickly relaxed into Kurt's body.

It must've been a least 5 minutes before Kurt finally pulled away, grabbing Blaine by the shoulders and looking him directly in the eyes.

"I'm so sorry, Blaine"

"You don't have to be sorry that I'm a crybaby"

Kurt sighed, "Don't say that!"

"I just- I really don't like being yelled at"

"I can see that now"

"I'm sorry"

"Blaine, you literally have nothing to be sorry for"

"Are you mad at me?" Blaine practically whimpered.

"Why would I be mad at you?"

"You yelled at me"

"That was hardly even yelling… well… that's not what matters. What matters is that I'm sorry. No, I'm not mad at you. I just had a bad day and sometimes I take my anger out on others, which I'm working on. Forgive me?"

Blaine had to fight the urge to declare, "Anything for you Kurt!" and instead settled on, "It's cool"

Kurt removed his hands from Blaine's shoulders and started moving "Alright, ready to head inside?"

"Not until you tell me why you had a bad day"

Kurt smiled, "Well let's see. It's only the third day of school and I already don't understand anything that we're doing in pre-calculus. Like seriously I have no idea what the fuck my teacher is going on about. And when I was going to ask for your help during lunch, you were busy texting your boyfriend or whoever"

"Mike?"

"Wait you were just texting Mike?"

"Yeah. I don't have a boyfriend"

"Oh. Hmm."

"What?"

"Nothing. Can we just get out of this car and get coffee?"

Blaine smiled and let Kurt lead the way into The Lima Bean.

After they ordered their drinks, Blaine a medium drip and Kurt a grande non-fat mocha, the two sit down at a table in the corner, luckily far from most of the other customers. They easily slip into conversation, discussing their favorite books, movies, and celebrities. Kurt even finds out about Blaine's secret obsession with Adam Levine and Maroon 5, and though Kurt teases Blaine endlessly about it, even though Blaine knows that Kurt finds Adam Levine just as attractive as Blaine does. The conversation is never awkward, and Blaine feels as if they just somehow fit together.

Although the boys arrived at The Lima Bean around 3:30, they don't leave until 6:00 because of how wrapped up in conversation they were. As they make their way to the car, Blaine can't help but feel disappointed that he already has to go home, and be alone, once again.

Blaine's thoughts weren't very nice to him when he was alone. Most of the time, they weren't even nice to him when he was around other people. But Kurt was different. Kurt made Blaine feel different, and good.

But good things never last, Blaine knew that for sure.

Still, what he felt with Kurt was something completely new, and he wanted to make the most of it.

As soon as Kurt pulled into Blaine's driveway, Blaine turned to Kurt, "You should like... come into my house"

"What?"

"I mean, only if you want. You said you needed help with pre-calc, and I can help you. You still have your backpack in the car so all your work is in there right? It shouldn't take too long, you're really smart and you'll probably get the hang of it quickly."

"I mean yeah that'd be nice, but I was supposed to be home for dinner at 6:30"

"Oh"

"Oh no but it's fine! I can just call my dad and tell him, then I can just eat leftovers later or something"

Blaine smiled, "Or you could eat dinner here"

Blaine didn't know where this newfound confidence was coming from. He would normally NEVER just randomly ask somebody to come into his house, or even to eat dinner with him. All he knew was that he desperately needed to spend more time with Kurt and he'd never felt this compelled to a person before.

"Are you sure your parents would be fine with that?"

"It's just me here"

"Wait. You live alone?"

Blaine had to hold back his laughter, "No! No, sorry, I should've clarified. I mean yeah, it's just my mom and I, but she's a flight attendant so she's rarely here."

"So you're inviting me into your house... all alone?"

"Yeah, is that a problem?"

Kurt shot a wicked grin towards Blaine, "Nope. Let's go inside"
