Lots of things happened at once. Gwen quickly pulled Miles into a hug and his parents quickly did the same. "Mi hijo!" Rio cried as she pulled Miles into a hug.
"Guys can you let me go? I'm suffocating." Miles said with strain. All three of them quickly let go of him but continued to smile at him which made him feel awkward. "So what did I miss?"
"Not much, you were only out for a few days." Gwen said with eyes full of tears of joy.
"Well, we did meet Gwen's dad." Jeff said. That's when Miles saw him standing near the door of the room. He was smiling but clearly felt awkward watching all the people crowd Miles while he stood there and watched. When he realized everyone was looking at him, he decided to walk up to Miles and greet him for the first time.
"Mr. Stacy, nice to meet you."
"And you, Miles, but please, call me George."
An awkward silence filled the room before Rio decided to break it and announced that they all should get something to eat. Everyone agreed and were about to leave when they suddenly heard someone screaming. They looked and saw George laying there while twitching and was changing colors. He finally stopped and was breathing hard before standing up.
"What happened?" Jeff demanded.
"He's glitching." Miles said in a quiet voice.
"Glitching? No such thing as a human Glitching. Right?" Rio tried to say confidently but had a noticeable shake to her voice.
"If a person stays in a different dimension too long their atoms begin to break apart which will eventually make you disintegrate." Gwen explained while helping her dad to stand.
"How come you haven't been Glitching then?" Jeff asked.
"I have a device that stabilizes my atoms so I won't glitch in a different universe. Same with Miles, that's how we visit each other." Gwen replied with a little annoyance. She obviously was not in the mood to talk more about Glitching at the moment. "I need to bring my dad back to our dimension. I'll visit tomorrow."
"I'll come with you." Miles quickly said as be struggled to get out of the bed.
"No!" everyone in the room shouted as Jeff pushed him back to the bed.
"I don't care how strong your healing powers are, you are staying here until the doctors say you can leave." He said with a commanding tone.
"But I'm strong enough to go!" Miles pouted.
"Mi hijo, listen to me. You may think you are strong enough, but we don't want you to hurt yourself again when you aren't completely healed."
"I won't get hurt."
"Miles." Gwen said as she walked toward him. She bent toward his ear and whispered to him. After a minute Miles relaxed as Gwen stood back up.
"OK, I will."
"Good." Gwen said as she bent down again to peck Miles' cheek. Both of them not noticing the number of smiles on all of the adults' face as they saw this and all thought the same thing. Only one thing is able to give two people such a connection to each other. True love. And they all were witnessing it with Gwen and Miles.
Gwen walked back to her dad and opened a portal and helped him go through it before closing the portal.
Miles and his parents sat in silence before his mom said she was going to get some food for them. Miles and his dad were trapped in another awkward silence before his dad decided to break it.
"Miles, we need to talk."
"About what?"
"About you. And spiderman."
"Oh...that."
"Look I can't stop you from saving people but I can't bear to know that every day you could get hurt like this and every day you could end up here."
"Dad, I'll be fine. If you really can't stand me being out there you could always keep an eye on me as a cop. Plus this is the first time I got hurt over the time I've been spiderman."
"Alright fine. But be careful, please Miles. You may be spiderman but you're still my son. I can't lose you." He said with tears coming out of his eyes. "I love you."
"Me too." Miles replied they were in a comfortable silence until Rio came back with food.
"Dios mio! Such horrible service! That cashier made me stand there just to talk to her stupid friend!"
"Calm down mom, it's fine now you have the food now." Miles' mom finally calmed down and the three of them began eating until Miles said he was tired and was going to get some sleep. His parents agreed and left the room to get some sleep themselves.
The next morning Miles began to slowly wake up as he heard police sirens. At first he wasn't bothered by them until he realized, he was hurt, he couldn't be spiderman, New York was left unprotected now. Crap! I need to get out there! He thought as he tried to get out of bed.
Suddenly something pushed him down. He landed on the bed in an uncomfortable position. He went back to a more comfortable position and looked up and saw Gwen standing there with a smirk. He noticed she was in her suit and then it hit him. Gwen was filling in for him. But what about her dimension? Before he asked she started to giggle.
"You should of seen your face when I pushed you down. It looked like your mouth was in about vacuum."
"Ha ha, very funny. You're hilarious."
"I like to call it mischievously humorous."
"You're the worst." Miles groaned.
"And yet you love me." Gwen replied with a playful smirk.
"Unfortunately." Miles said in a joking voice.
Gwen giggled before kissing Miles. They kissed each other until they needed to pull away for air. They were about to kiss again before a siren began to blare. Miles was extremely disappointed about this but tried his best to not show it. He didn't succeed and Gwen saw the disappointment on his face. "Don't worry I'll be back soon."
"K, don't get hurt."
"Look who's talking." She said before giggling.
"Rude." Miles said with a hurt face before playfully punching her on the arm. "But before you go, who's gonna protect your dimension now that you're in mine?"
"Crime rates are extremely low now so the cops can take care of it."
"Oh, ok. Well just don't get hurt, last thing I need is you to end up like me."
"Relax, I won't get hurt. Bye Miles."
"Bye."
Gwen jumped out of the window to stop the crime, leaving Miles there with his thoughts. He decided to kill some time by drawing. He dug through the bag he carried when he got hurt and found his sketchbook and began to draw. He barely begun when he heard a knock on the door.
"Come in." He said while still drawing. The door opened and he looked up and saw his parents walk in with a plate of food.
"Buenos dias Mi hijo. How was your sleep?"
"Good moma."
"We brought you food, figured you'd be hungry." His dad said cheerfully but Miles heard a little worry in his voice. Must be still thinking about our talk he thought as he took the plate and began eating the eggs on it. The family began talking until they heard a sound at the window. The three turned to see Gwen stepping into the room and took off her mask. She was clearly surprised seeing Miles' parents in the room but didn't seem to mind as she began to take off her suit and put it away.
"Morning everyone." She said cheerfully.
"Good morning Gwen. Would you like some breakfast?" Rio said as she offered Gwen another plate of food.
"Yes please and thank you." Gwen said as she accepted the plate and sat in the empty chair.
"So what were you doing just then?" Jeff asked.
"Not much, just stopped a few robberies."
"And how is your dad?"
"He's fine. He was a little shaken up after the glitch but other than that, he's back to his usual self."
"Glad to hear that, I nearly had a heart attack after seeing that."
Suddenly the door opened and the doctor that treated Miles during his coma walked in. "I just need to do some checks on him to make sure he's fine." Gwen and Miles' parents let the doctor through and he began to do his tests.
After a while he finished and rose to reveal the results. "His healing factor is incredible. Whatever that spider gave him it made his body fully recover already. I've never seen such a quick recovery from the type of injury he suffered. Hiwever, I need him to stay for one more day to make sure he is completely healed and then he can go home."
"Gracias doctor. You helped us a lot." Rio said with eyes about to spill with tears. The doctor nodded and walked out of the room to check on another patient. When he left the small crowd began to celebrate and hugged Miles.
"Let go guys, I can't breath."
The three let him go and sat back down.
"Glad you're fine now kiddo." Jeff said with a wide grin. The four of them started talking and were completely unaware that there was an unwanted watcher who too was overjoyed but not in the same way.
--Dimensions away
In a distant dimension a tall figure watched as Miles heard that he fully recovered his injuries. Good, he thought that fool rhino didn't take the glory of killing him away from me. He and his stupid girlfriend are going to be fun to kill during my quest. Suddenly a door opened and he saw a woman enter.
"Morlun." She said as she walked towards him.
"What is it Verna?"
"The Inheritors know their tasks. When do we begin?"
He looked up and grinned.
"Now."
