A portal appeared in the middle of a desert and closed after the opener stepped through. They walked around for a few minutes before clapping their hands three times. Then, all the surrounding objects surrounding them began to disappear and a large room filled with futuristic technology appeared.

The person walked to a large computer and placed their hand on a pad. The pad scanned their hand then, the screen sprung to life and showed numerous opened files.

Hello, the computer said, how do you need my assistance at the moment?

"Unlock the door to the room containing the assets."

Of course

A loud click was heard and the person walked over to and large metal door that opened when he approached it, revealing an unconscious man on the floor in a green suit. "What's the prisoner's status?"

Still unconscious. He doesn't seem to be able to wake up any time soon. I predict at least a few months.

"Good, the longer the better." The figure walked away from the body and opened away portal but before it entered, it turned to the computer. "And Lyla, when he does wake up, make sure to tell me."

Of course Miguel.

It was late in the night and Miles' parents were already fast asleep, but he was pacing around tirelessly and was trying to get his mind to stop shooting all the details that happened earlier in the day at a fast pace. Every time he thought that he could get himself to start settling down, a new wave of questions would hit him again that would stress him out even more.

He didn't know what to do about him and Lizette. He liked her a lot, he knew that. But did he move on from Gwen enough to not feel like that he would disrespect her if he dated her? Every time that Miles thought he waa over Gwen, there would always be something to come along and remind him of her and he'd always feel sad about her death again. He knew that Eventually, he'd have to face the problems, but right now, he needed to get distracted and get his mind away from it.

Miles looked at his alarm clock to check the time. 12:50. He did some mental math before deciding that he had enough time to patrol for about 3-4 hours then come back and be able to get in at least a good 3 hours of sleep in before needing to wake up to get ready for his first day back at school.

Miles groaned at the mention of school. His summer vacation seemed to past by in a blur with trying to get over Gwen's death. And last year he "missed" a lot of days in a row. He was so used to having to deal with threats or just skipping because of depression. It felt like a whole new concept for him now. Miles just then thought that he probably should've told Lizette about starting school.

The mention of her name made his mind start sending wave after wave of stressful questions that needed answers again. Great, I thought I could at least patrol without these in my head. Miles mentally complained and slid his window down.

He jumped out and felt the wind blow on his face for a quick second, clearing his mind of all worries and stress, before quickly pulling his mask on and swinging towards the famous skyscrapers that made the beautiful New York City skyline that was still glowing in light and bustling in life despite how late it was. It truly was the city that never sleeps.

But that also meant that the crime didn't sleep either as Miles saw several armed men trying to rob a bank. Miles made quick work of them and swung away to look for more trouble that needed to be stopped, happily welcoming the adrenaline that was beginning to pump through him as swung by building by building, web by web.

He kept swinging around for a While, making sure the city was safe and stopping an occasional crime until, out of nowhere, a loud blast alerted Miles. He swung over to the noise where he saw a massive traffic jam where in the middle of it, was Dr. Octavious who was trying to loot truck that held futuristic looking tech and weapons. Oh no you don't. Miles gritted his teeth and shot a web to one of Ock's tentacles, pulling her away from the truck before she tried to grab anything else, sending her flying into a store that was fortunately closed and empty.

"Spiderman, it's been quite a while since we last met." Ock said with a sly smile.

"Yeah, and I kinda wish you could've kept it that way."

"Oh please," She waved one of her "You knew that I wouldn't be gone forever." One of her robotic hands lunged at Miles but missed just at the nick of time.

"Missed." Miles taunted.

Ock grinned. "Made you look." She picked up a gun that fell from the truck and pointed it at Miles.

Oh great, what's this gonna be? Missiles? Explode on impact bullets? Nothing explosive please.

Ock pulled the trigger several times but Miles dodged before anything could hit him. He turned and saw lasers that were still following him. Lasers that track you? Seriously? Who made that thing possible? He tried to shake them off by quickly turning with his webs but that didn't work. Then, he spotted the Manhattan Bridge and knew exactly what to do. He let go of his webs and freefalled towards the water until the last second and shot a web to pull away from the water, leaving the lasers no chance to track his movement fast enough and hit the water instead, sending statics everywhere before disappearing.

Miles rushed back to where Ock was and saw her trying to pick out the things she wanted from the truck. She just finished when he got back and was running away until she saw him.

"You were supposed to die from those." She growled.

"Life's just full of disappointments, isn't it?" Miles taunted and shot a web at all the objects Ock was holding and pulled them back to the truck. "And those, don't belong to you."

"I'm going to squash you, bug." She growled.

"Spiders are arachnids, scientists like you should learn biology." Miles shouted and shot a web at a building and swung away. And just as he expected, he saw Ock start to follow him so she could get rid of him. That's right Ocky, get distracted.

Miles looked for a place to lead Ock to. He kept searching and swinging while quickly dodging any swings the swinging crazy lady may have sent at him until he finally found an abandoned construction site. Perfect. Miles swung over there and made sure that Ock was still following him before dropping down to the ground to face her.

"I knew you couldn't keep up running from me forever." She mocked and all 4 of her mechanical arms sprung to life with 2 of them changed into saws and all of them were pointed at Miles.

"Come on, that move again? Can't you ever do something original once in a while?" Miles complained.

"Come here you little rat." She spat and all of the arms darted towards him but were too slow to grab him.

"Too slow." Miles taunted and continued to dodge alk the attacks she swung at him. "Missed me." He said after a few attacks and quickly leaped out of the way of a saw hand. "And again." But he was too focused on taunting to pay attention to his spider sense that was telling him of the arm behind him. Before he realized, he was in the grip of the arm and was being pulled slowly to Ock.

"I can finally get rid of you, you little nutince. You have been a pain in the back for too long. It's time to die, bug."

"I... told you, spiders are... arachnids." Miles gasped out.

"A pity that weak joke will be your final words. Although I do wonder, where was that spider girlfriend you were so fond of? I thought she would have come to your rescue by now." Miles felt a string chill when she talked about Gwen. "I wonder where she could be."

"That's none of your business." Miles growled, now fueled with rage. He already felt the electricity boost build up inside him.

Ock took notice of his anger and smiled a cruel smile. "I see something did happen to her. I really am curious to know. Perhaps maybe she's lost, or captured. Or maybe she left you for someone else better. Or maybe-" her face was now full of cruelty and realization. "Maybe she's gone. Dead, never to be seen again. All because you weren't good or strong enough to protect her. She's gone now,and it's all your fault." She looked at the fuming hero in her mechanical clasp and grinned evily. "Am I right?"

Miles rage grew by the millisecond and knew that the electrical surge was going to overtake him. "I. Said. That. It. Wasn't. Your. BUSINESS." He released the shockwave burst and sent her flying away and into a concrete wall.

All of Ock's arms were broken from the impact and she was struggling to even sit up. "So... you do that... now." She struggled to say and clinched her side. She examined the electrical aura around him. "Fascinating." She murmured.

Miles looked at the sitting figure that was staring at him. He was trying to suppress his rage but it didn't seem to work.

"It looks like... I was right. She is dead, that's why you can activate these powers... rage."

"I can control these powers. You don't even know what you're talking about." Miles spat.

Ock smirked. "I'm sure you can, boy. Let's just see if you can convince yourself that while knowing that she's gone because of you." She let out a weak laugh that sounded like a cackle before falling unconscious.

Miles still had a large amount of rage in him but knew he couldn't do anything about it now. He sighed and webbed the unconscious corpse up and swung away to his house. On the way, he glanced at his watch to catch the time and felt his heart drop.

6:15

Great, my first class is in an hour and a half and I didn't even pack my stuff yet. How did the time pass by so quickly?

Miles sighed in frustration and swung to his house as fast as he could. He jumped into his room and took off his suit and put on some regular clothes.

Suddenly, he heard a knock on his door. "Miles? That you?" His dad said on the other side.

"Yeah! I'm just uh..." Miles looked at his completely empty suitcase, "packing!"

"And by packing you mean 'finished patrolling and didn't even put anythiny in your suitcase' right?"

Miles gulped. "Um... maybe?"

His dad sighed. "Alright go take a shower; I'll handle your bags. But make it snappy. Your mother wants to make you breakfast before going to work and you know how stubborn she can be!"

"Thanks dad." Miles said sheepishly and opened the door to let his dad in then slipped into the bathroom to take his shower. He rinsed his sweat off quickly and got out to do his daily hygiene routine. Once he finished, he got out of the bathroom to see his dad already having half of his bags packed. "Wow, that was fast, thanks dad. I'll do the rest."

He looked up at Miles and grinned. "Good, my back is aching from all that packing already."

Miles tolled his eyes. "Uh Huh, sure."

His dad chuckled. "Hurry up Miles, you should be leaving by 7 to have plenty of time to get to class. You've got 30 minutes."

Miles used his speed and agility to get all the things he needed in his bags, crammed the suitcase shut, and walked to the kitchen where he was greeted by the heavenly smell of bacon, eggs, and pancakes. He greeted his parents and sat down at the table where his mom set down a plate for him and hugged him.

"Aww, mi hijo is going to leave today." His mom said in a sad voice.

"Mom, it's fine, I'll come back on Friday." Miles felt uncomfortable from how tight his mother was hugging him but still appreciated it.

"Rio, let him go, he needs to eat." His dad chuckled.

She let Miles go but not before placing a kiss on his forehead and pushed the food nearer to him. "Eat, it's a big day and you need the energy."

Miles smiled at his loving mother. "Thank you moma." She smiled at him and walked back to the kitchen counter to pour Miles' dad some coffee.

Jeff looked up from the newspaper he was reading and placed Miles' phone next to his plate. "I meant to give this back to you Miles, you left it in your room."

"Thanks dad." Miles took the phone and put it in his pocket and resumed eating.

"You might wanna check it soon. It was buzzing like crazy when you were in the bathroom." Miles nodded.

Jeff stared at his son, studying him for any signs of embarrassment, but all he saw was the face of a starving boy who was eating like a mad man. He had an idea who it could've been but he didn't want to intrude in Miles' privacy. He wanted to ask him about it but Miles was still touchy on the subject of his love life so he let it go. Miles will tell him about it when he's ready.

Miles finished the last bit of his breakfast and grabbed all of his bags and headed for the door.

"Mi hijo, just a minute." His mom ran up to his and hugged him tightly before showering his face with kisses.

"Agh mom, I'm gonna be late." Miles complained.

"In a minute." She repeated the words she said last time. Eventually, she let go of him and smiled. "You study hard, ok? Don't let the spider things distract you too much. And please, stay safe."

Miles nodded. "I will."

Jeff came up behind his wife and placed his hand on Miles' shoulder. "And remember, if you ever need help or need someone to talk to, just remember that your mother and I will always be there for you. Don't be afraid to come to us. We love you Miles." He smiled and embraced Miles.

"Thanks dad, I love you too."

His mom hugged him one last time before the three let each other go.

"You gotta go Miles, you can't be late on the first day."

Miles nodded and started walking in the direction of the school. He checked the time and groaned.

7:15

He needed to hurry to the school, drop off all his stuff, get his books out, make it to class, and somehow do that all in 30 minutes.

Miles started sprinting and only stopped if there was someone in his way. He kept sprinting and could feel the sweat dripping until he finally saw the glorious Visions Academy sign. He rushed in, got to the registration desk, got his room key, went to his room, dumped his bags, got his books, and sprinted to his first class with just 5 seconds to spare. Classic Miles Morales fashion as always. He chose a random seat and prepared mentally for the countless boring lectures he was about to endure.

At the end of the day, he trudged to his room and dumped all the books he had that contained the extreme amount of homework he already had. And he still never unpacked yet. Another all-nighter yippee. He groaned in agony and plopped onto a chair and took a break before beginning his adventure in the endless void that is school.

He pulled out his phone and saw numerous notifications alerting him about messages he received throughout the day. He opened them and saw that they were all from Lizette, asking him how he was. He read through all of them and grinned from all the worried texts. She does care. Maybe this year won't be as bad as I thought.

He started tapping his phone to send her a response back and within seconds, he got a reply, saying how worried she was. For some reason, it touched him, and he smiled. No, no it won't be.
