Miles woke up feeling sore in his back and with a numb right arm. He soon realized that he spent the night sitting up while sleeping. Miles tried to stand up and stretch out the soreness in his back but felt heavy resistance from his right side. He looked over and saw Liz peacefully sleeping next to him with her head resting on his shoulder as she slept quietly. Miles smiled at her peaceful form.

She's beautiful even when she's asleep

Miles slowly began to close his eyes to go back to sleep. He unconsciously lifted his arm to check the time on his dimension hopper before fully closing his eyes.

7:15

Miles slowly drifted off to sleep and didn't think much about the time. Eventually though, his brain woke up and realized the problem. His eyes quickly sprang open in worry.

Agh! I'm going to be late for school!

Miles knew he needed to rush over but remembered about Liz on his other side. He gently shook her to wake her up. Soon, he saw her eyes slowly open up and look at him.

"Miles? What are you doing here? What are we doing here? Where are we? What are you wearing?" She asked confused, clearly not remembering what happened last night.

"We're on a rooftop right now because we fell asleep here and I'm wearing a suit right now because... you know." Miles wasn't sure if he really wanted to explain everything right now.

"Oh yeah. You're spiderman. I forgot." Liz rubbed her eyes, saving Miles the time to go through that long explanation.

"Why'd you wake me up though? What time is it?" Liz looked at her phone to check the time. Her eyes widened as she realized how late it was. "Oh, yikes, it's really late." She seemed surprised but not nearly as stressed out as she was.

Miles was confused by her relatively calm reaction. "Why aren't you that worried."

Liz shrugged and answered his question. "We're standing on my apartment right now and I can easily walk to school from here. It doesn't take me that long."

"Oh. Well, I really need to get going. My class starts soon and it's far away. You'll be ok, right?"

"Yeah, I'll be fine."

"Are you sure?" Miles asked.

Liz laughed lightly. "Yes Miles, I'll be fine. I don't need a superhero to make sure I get to school. You just stay out of trouble."

Miles laughed back. "Alright, stay safe."

Liz rolled her eyes but smiled back. "I will." Miles leaned in to kiss her before jumping off the rooftop to swing back to Vision Academy so he could quickly change into his school uniform and hopefully arrive to class on time.

Liz watched him as he swung away and sighed. She hated to see him go. There was still so much she wanted to talk to him about but it looked like it would have to wait. She didn't like it, but she was a patient person. She would wait till the end of the world just to see him again.

Miles was able to jump into his room with about 10 minutes to go which was enough time to put on his uniform and wash away any sweat on his face before arriving to class without needing to run. As soon as he arrived to class the teacher started his lesson.

Miles tuned out the teacher as he was going over things that he had already learned before. He took out a notebook to pretend to take notes while it was actually where all of his sketches had been.

There were several drawings of Gwen in there with some having him in them as well. Miles gently touched her face in one if the pictures and sighed as the memories started to flood in once again. He shook them out of his head before turning the pages to where he had started a sketch of Liz. He only had the outline of her head finished and began working on her hair. Time passed by quickly and he focused completely on his project.

"Mr. Morales?"

Miles looked up to see the whole classes looking at him.

Of course he called on me

Miles mentally sighed. "I'm sorry, could you repeat the question?"

The teacher sighed, quickly running out of patience. "I was asking if you knew the bomber type that the Japanese used to devastate Allied forces in World War 2."

Ah shoot, World War 2. I don't remember anything about this

"Um, B-29s?" Miles answered in a questioning tone.

The teacher shook his head, disappointed. "No, kamikazes. This isn't even one of the harder questions. I'm assuming that you're distracted by your lack of sleep?"

Miles looked down at his notebook where half of Liz's hair was complete. "Kinda?" Miles answered with a question.

The teacher shook his head again. "Mr. Morales, your exams are coming up soon. I'm strictly going over old stuff for people like you who are struggling to pay attention. Do not let my help go to waste. Understood?"

"Yes sir." Miles muttered but loud enough for him to hear.

"Good." The teacher sighed before resuming his lesson.

Miles couldn't focus anymore on his drawing. He knew the teacher was right. He needed to focus more before he failed all of his classes. He already disappointed too many people in his life, he didn't need to add his parents to that list.

Soon, the bell rang and all the students were dismissed to go to their next class. The teacher, however, stood at the front and stopped Miles from leaving. "I'd like to have a talk with you before you leave, Mr. Morales."

"Yes sir." Miles gulped and walked over to his desk. "Am I in trouble?" He quietly asked.

The teacher shook his head. "Not exactly. Just please look at this." He showed Miles a picture of random letter grades on his computer. They were all average to low grades, high C's up to low B's, one almost a D, none of which would be considered as passing in such an exclusive school like Vision. "Tell me how you think about this."

Miles hesitated before answering. "They're not exactly very good sir."

The teacher nodded before zooming out of the page to see who's grades they were.

Morales, Miles

"These are your grades. You're starting to fail your classes. I have no doubt that it has to do with your lack of concentration. I do remember you failing your classes before, is that correct?"

Miles nodded, remembering the conversation he had more than a year ago with another teacher when he tried to fail out of the school on purpose. It felt like a lifetime ago. So much had happened since then.

"I don't know the reason to your lack of concentration but I do know that it is more than you trying to be rebellious. I know you are a good person and you would never do that. I have no place to know what is causing this but I am asking you to try and figure it out. Whatever it is was was bad and probably takes time to heal from." The teacher paused to let Miles think. Obviously the teacher didn't know the true reason but it still hit him hard. Maybe Gwen's death still had an effect on him. Maybe he hasn't moved on.

"I wish you luck with it and I hope you can come out of it better than ever, Mr. Morales." Miles looked up. "Now, I believe you have another class to get to. Have a good day." The teacher opened the door and smiled at Miles. Miles gave a fake smile back and walked out.

On his way to his locker and to his next class, Miles was still thinking hard about the talk. Did he really become so affected by her death that he didn't even know? But what made him so blind about it?

By the time he started to get really deep in thought he already arrived to his next class. Miles sighed and made his way over to the back of the room; he'd have to sort this out later.

He was going to have a long talk with Liz tonight.

Gwen slowly opened her eyes but was immediately blinded by a white light right above her. She barely squinted her eyes to get use to the brightness before fully opening her eyes and got up to look around where she was.

She had no memory of what happened. All she remembered was trying to run to Miles seeing him leave through a portal with Miguel. She remembered how heart broken she felt when seeing him leave before feeling the painful heat as an explosion engulfed her.

Remembering the explosion, she looked down at her body to see any scorch marks but was surprised when she found none. She looked sideways and saw Peter lying on a bed next to her.

That's weird, why is he here?

She slowly got off the bed and noticed that there were hundreds of beds just like hers in the massive room she was in. She let her feet adjust to her weight before walking over to Peter and shook him awake. He stirred around before opening his eyes and looked at her. His mind took a while to process what was happening.

"What the... what are you doing here Gwen? What am I doing here? Where is here?" Peter groaned. "Why does my head hurt so much?"

"I don't think I have an answer to a single question right now Peter." Gwen sighed and looked around. Everything looked so... futuristic but at the same time, rusty... and old.

"Do you remember your last memory?" She asked Peter.

"Kinda. I remember being with MJ when Miguel showed up and asked me to follow him somewhere. I went and we were talking when..." He trailed off and an angry expression had shown on his face.

"When what?"

"That son of a..." Peter realized Gwen was still there and held his tongue. "Miguel! He's the one behind whatever this is! What does he even want with us anyways?"

Gwen was shocked that such a trusted friend would capture her. But then she remembered seeing him leave. How did he get her back?

"Are you sure it's him?" Gwen asked, hoping that Peter was wrong.

"Sure as hell! When I see him I'm going to..." Peter couldn't finish his sentence because just then, a loud clang boomed through the door and a figure covered in the shadow walked in.

"Going to what, Peter? Finish your sentence please." The figure walked out of the shadows and revealed none other than Miguel. "I'd believe delighted to hear."

"Why did you bring us here and what are you going to do with us?" Gwen demanded.

"Calm down." Miguel rolled his eyes and shot a web and threw her back onto her bed. "All will be explained in due time."

"I don't understand," Gwen said once she got back in a sitting position, "how did you even pull me out?"

Miguel laughed. "You idiot. Do you really think that was real? Did you really think anything was real?"

"What do you..."

"The whole battle was fake." Miguel laughed. "Although Morlun did die. Who knew such a powerful man could be so naive when victory was so near." Miguel trailed off in his thoughts but soon shook his head. "Whatever, I was going to kill him anyways."

Gwen was still confused. "But I saw you leave."

Miguel laughed. "Yeah, that wasn't me." A drone suddenly appeared and took off the cloaking technology surrounding Miguel and instead revealed Mysterio.

"Mysterio? I though you died!" Peter shouted.

Mysterio laughed at him. "Yeah right, like I'd actually kill myself in an explosion just to see two people die. You're not as important as you actually think you are."

"Then where is the real Miguel?" Gwen asked.

"Oh yeah, him."

A platform was soon lowered to show a motionless Mysterio laying in the center of it. Mysterio clapped once and the cloak was removed to show the real Miguel in horrible condition with a beat up face and multiple wounds scattered around his body.

"Miguel!" Gwen ran up to him with Peter right behind her and checked on him. It was surprising that he wasn't even dead. Those wounds should've killed him even with his spider healing."

"I patched him up so he'd live but also took away that spider healing of his. He would've ruined everything if he woke up."

Peter looked up and glared at him, killing him if looks could kill. "What do you mean?"

"Oh he is no longer needed for my plans so he will die, once sleeping beauty over here wakes up." Mysterio pointed at another bed where Cindy was laying unconscious. "Gotta make sure she feels some pain as well." Mysterio winked.

"You're a monster." Gwen spat.

Mysterio laughed at her. "You're going to wish I was a monster soon." He suddenly clapped his hands again. "But enough chit chatting for now, you two gotta go back to sleep."

Gas filled the room and started to affect the two and make them drowsy but didn't affect Mysterio as he put a gas mask on.

"I swear I will stop you." Gwen managed to say before dropping.

"Don't count on it, hon." Mysterio kicked her in the head to make sure the gas did the job before carrying the two limp bodies back to their beds.

He left the room soon after and went back to his holo computer which was showing live footage of Miles on a rooftop with Liz.

"Time for the real hunt to begin." He quietly whispered.

Three weeks later

Miles was swinging around through his usual patrol. Soon he got the urge to take a break and stopped at a rooftop to catch his breath. He felt his phone buzz to alert him of a text. He opened it and felt his blood run cold at the message.

Miles I need help

It was from Liz. Miles immediately took off to her apartment. He swung relentlessly, each web was shot with anger and desperation. He got to her apartment in record time and located the room he remembered being invited to a few days ago by her.

He jumped through the window and saw a complete mess. Books were everywhere, tables were broken, cups were shattered, and blood was everywhere. Miles looked around and saw her parents laying dead with blood still oozing out of their wounds. Miles didn't know whether he wanted to barf or cry at the sight but knew that now was no time to do either.

He kept looking and eventually found a note on a table that was still intact. He quickly read it and felt his anger boil even more. He opened a portal and quickly jumped through it, leaving the note behind to slowly fall on the ground. The note only had a few words on it:

Meet me at Earth 928 if you wanna see her again.

-Mysterio

I'm pretty sure I shocked nobody with Miguel and Mysterio. That wasn't the real shocker. That's still to come.
