Transformers: Battle for the Soul of Cybertron
For 4 million years, war had raged across the planet Cybertron. Division, violence, and death were abundant. Autobots and Decepticons battled one another day in and day out, those who wished to simply be Cybertronians caught in the middle of it all. The crisis was further exacerbated when Cybertron was hit by a pandemic of the ancient "Cosmic Rust", which claimed the lives of thousands of Cybertronians without a single gun being fired.
For a time, it seemed like the Decepticons had won, until opposition rose again and the battle raged once more.
In the middle of it all, fighting to the bitter end to see the Cybertron they dreamed of, were two warriors.
Optimus Prime and Megatron.
As war was all around them, each warrior led the charge for their side. Blasting their way through enemy combatants with laser cannons, the two eventually reached one another. Once they had, each leader unsheathed a glowing sword. Optimus Prime wielded a sword that glowed blue, while Megatron's glowed red.
"This war has to end, Megatron!" Optimus pleaded.
"It will end when I have returned Cybertron to greatness!" Megatron shouted. "And crushed all that would stand in my way, or dare to speak against me!"
"Is this your ideal of greatness?" Optimus questioned. "A world in which people are separated by arbitrary differences? In which an elite few hold all the power and decide for the people? Where innocents die in the streets just because your corrupt enforcers could not sate their bloodlust?"
"Officers of the law, my law, doing their jobs," Megatron retorted with a sinister grin. "Wiping out the inferior lifeforms like your precious Autobots."
"You would pervert the rule of law into a license to kill?" Optimus asked, baffled by such a heinous idea.
"It's the only way for the underclass to stay in line." Megatron explained.
"So is that what this is about?" Optimus tried to decipher. "Keeping the ruling elite in power? The very thing you claimed to be fighting against?!"
"The fools who believed me have no one to blame but themselves," Megatron argued. "At least the biggest of those fools have become loyal Decepticons. And what of you, Prime? You wish to take control of Cybertron from me, but to what end? Victory for the Autobots no doubt! You don't care about the masses either, only your own side. We aren't so different."
"You could possibly be more wrong," Optimus informed. "I seek an end to your tyranny not just for my Autobots, but for all Cybertronians. I will lead those who side against me with equal commitment as those who fought alongside me. The world I want to see is one where all are valued, Megatron. Enough division, enough violence! The time has come to heal our world."
"You'd best focus on healing yourself when I'm done with you, Prime." Megatron threatened, before aiming his arm-mounted fusion cannon, the inside of the barrel beginning to glow an ominous red.
Optimus shook his head. "I tried to reason with you."
"A waste of time." Megatron fired a large laser blast. Optimus narrowly ducked under it, before transforming into his truck mode and ramming Megatron, knocking him down before returning to robot mode and taking out his energy sword once more.
"If you will not help heal this planet, you leave me no choice but to defeat you," Optimus explained. "I had hoped we could compromise."
"Hope is for fools." Megatron said as he climbed to his feet and brandished his own sword.
"Hope is what keeps me going," Optimus countered. "On this day, one shall stand, and one shall fall."
"Why throw away your life so recklessly?" Megatron asked.
"That's a question you should ask yourself, Megatron." Optimus answered, before leaping into the air and coming down on his enemy with his sword. Megatron countered the strike, but was nearly knocked down by his opponent's weight.
"This is a battle for the very soul of Cybertron," Optimus told his foe as their blades were locked against one another's. "And it is one I cannot lose."
