"I hate this" I huffed out for the third to time in 5 minutes, looking down at my potions essay with disdain.

It's a bloody 3 days until we leave for Winter Break and our professors are still piling work on us like there's no tomorrow.

Well if I continue to write this essay there actually might not be a tomorrow for me once I throw myself off the Astronomy tower.

I chuckled at the thought and begrudgingly drew my eyes back to the many pages of parchment covered in my handwriting.

I worked like this for the next hour switching between my work and considering the ways to off myself that would be less painful than finishing my essay.

Finally finishing, I threw my quill down on the table leaning back into the very comfortable couch of the Gryffindor common room.

Yes this was definitely a sight to see. Lily Evans, top of the class, the girl who would rather spend her time in the library reading over anything else, complaining about schoolwork.

Looking down at the three other essays I had to write I nearly had a heart attack. Much to my disdain, the good student part of my brain convinced me to start working on my DADA essay on Patronuses. It was actually quite interesting learning about the different characteristics of what your Patronus means. Reading down further on the page I found my Patronus, a doe.

"A doe symbolizes the gentle, enticing lure of new adventures".

Gentle may be true but I don't really fancy myself new adventures. That spot is reserved for my best friend Marlene McKinnon who if she was a boy would fit in like a puzzle with the Marauders. I instantly rolled my eyes thinking about the group of troublemaking boys who received more detentions than I can count.

Turning back to my book, having a newfound interest in learning more about so called relatable characteristics, I continued to read.

"The doe is fiercely protective of its loved ones, as displayed through its caring and nurturing nature. The doe is also representative of gentleness yet strong determination, and with its high level of intuition and-

"Oof" the sound of someone sitting in the chair next to me interrupted my reading. I looked up to see who the perpetrator was. I rolled my eyes. Of course, it was no other than James Potter.

I gave him a blank stare not having enough energy to ask what he was doing.

"-and sensitivity," I continued to read, "it battles life's challenges with the utmost-"

"You know Evans, I think this is the first time I've seen you doing work outside the library". I was cut off again by Potters voice.

"Yes Potter well the library proved to be too quiet for me to work in for once" I said letting my annoyance show through in my tone.

"I was just pointing it out" he said with a smirk.

"Thank you for that." I responded flatly. "Now if you could please leave me alone that would be immensely appreciated".

"Woah Evans, no need to go use big words like 'immensely' with me. I was just leaving".

Thank god.

"Well Potter maybe if you visited the library once in your life you would know that 'immensely' is not in fact a big word and something that people say fairly regularly".

"I don't say it regularly".

"Yes well that barely proves anything" I finished clearly annoyed that I was arguing about a word.

Once again turning back to my book I continued to read.

"-utmost grace and vigilance." I finished reading the paragraph, barely remembering what I read before Potter came to distract me.

Reading back over the paragraph, I rephrased what it had said and copied it into my essay.

"You know Evans", I sighed again as Potter began talking, "now that I think about it, I haven't seen you a while".

"Lucky me" I responded wondering why I keep talking to him.

"I mean we have almost the same classes, live in the same tower, and have mutual friends. Soo you must be avoiding me" he proclaimed, sounding proud like he just solved world peace.

I laughed at his idiocy, shaking my head, "Potter, just because your Lily radar hasn't been working the past few days doesn't mean I'm avoiding you. It quite frankly means that I have no interest in being near you, talking to you, or doing anything else related to you".

"Well as sentimental and nice that was" he said clearly not bothered by my previous speech, "I came here to ask you if you wanted to go to Hogsmeade during the Holidays".

I blinked once, then twice, then shook my head and looked back down at my essay, very much so over this conversation.

"So is that a yes"

"It's definitely a no. The past 1000 times you asked me this year have been a no and it will forever be a no. Please leave me alone now" I said more harshly.

"I'll take that as a maybe"

I threw my quill down on the table once again. "Merlin Potter, I don't know how many times I have to get it through your thick head that I will never in this lifetime or the next go out with you. You're an insufferable git and I would appreciate it if you never bothered me again".

He raised his eyebrows slightly at my outburst and then smirked again.

"Alright then Evans. See you after break." He said enthusiastically with a quick wave.

I hit my hand against my forehead multiple times.

"Woah, I didn't think the homework was that bad that Lily Evans would be hitting herself over it". I heard an amused voice say, one that could only belong to Marlene.

I quickly glared at her as she sat down and I merely said "Potter" before closing my book, not interested in anything related to school anymore.

"Ah, I see. What'd he do this time" she asked leaning forward putting her chin in her hand.

"Asked me out, annoyed me, the usual"

"Well it sounds like you've had a great day" she said playfully, only earning another glare from me. "But I have some more exciting news for you".

Welcoming the change in conversation I asked her what news was more exciting than my rants about Potter.

Really anything is more exciting than that actually. Even my potions essay.

I cringed at the thought of still not finishing my essays but continued to listen to my best friend who proceeded to tell me something along the lines of how a couple in 5th year broke up and then the girl started dating his best friend. To be honest I wasn't fully paying attention.

"I can't believe I'm not going to see you for a full two weeks" Marlene says as we arrive at Kings Cross getting off the train.

"Yes well at least you're going to have an exciting break. Mine will mostly consist of my parents asking me 101 questions about Hogwarts and my sister calling me a freak."

Marlene smirked at me "I'm sure you'll enjoy your time off reading in your room all day".

I laughed out loud "You know me so well" I said as I threw my arm over her shoulder walking towards where all the students were waiting for their parents.

"Write to me?" I say to her once she's spotted her parents.

"Of course" she says with a laugh giving me a quick hug and walking away to where her parents were. She shot me a quick wave before they apparated away leaving me on a search for my parents.

Turning around I was suddenly faced with the sight of Potter walking towards me. Deciding to not engage myself in another stupid argument I walked forward in an attempt to ignore him. I almost thought I was successful too when he seemed to not see me when suddenly I felt a hand on my arm. Turning to see who it was I let out a groan.

Before I had to chance to tell him to shove off he quickly whispers "have a good break Evans" and then disappears out of my sight but not before shooting me a wink.

Stupid git

Not a moment later I was met with the faces of my parents and my disgruntled sister who looked like she would rather throw herself in front of the train then be here.

This should be fun

Hi everyone!! This is the first of Puzzle Pieces! Anyhow! I hope you liked this chapter and if you did plz review! I'm always open to constructive criticism/feedback!

Also just a heads up. I HATE those fanfics where Lily and James suddenly go from hating each other to saying I love you in a matter of chapters so just know that will not be the case in this story. I'm not sure how long this will be yet but I'm thinking around 30 chapters.

Have an amazing day!
