I sighed in relief at the sight of the barrier between Platforms 9 and 10. Holiday had been better than I was expecting. It was nice to catch up with my parents and talk about everything ranging from their work, the neighbors, and Hogwarts to which Petunia would quickly get up and leave if anyone uttered anything in the wide realm of magic.

Quickly kissing my parents on the cheek and tells no them I'll see them in a few months I hurried towards the platform. Opening my eyes I saw students bustling left and right greeting their friends and saying goodbye to their families.

I started heading over to the train when I saw someone running towards me at full speed. When I realize who it is I let out an excited scream and embraced her.

Her being my other best friend, Mary McDonald, who I had yet to see in a month because her family took a very long vacation in Spain.

"I'm so so sorry I didn't write. If I could have I would have wrote every day, heck every hour, but my parents wanted me to live in the moment and not worry about the distraction of writing to people. I didn't understand their concept to be quite frank with you. I was going to write anyway but I didn't want to be grounded for the rest of my trip. Let me tell you Lily, Spain is great but after a month I was so bored I wanted to Arvada kedavra myself. I would have rather been studying for a History of Magic test than spend another week there, now don't you think that says something?" she finished with a huff trying to catch the air she lost from her monologue.

I smiled in amusement at my best friend. "Now Mary, as entertaining as that was I think you should leave the rambling to me. You almost passed out from the speed you were talking at".

"Missed you too" she said merely kissing me on the cheek and dragging me by the hand towards the train.

I sure did pick some bloody hyper friends.

I lug my stuff onto the train and head with Mary to the back to find a compartment. Finding an empty one we both throw ourselves down into the seats. "I missed this train" I say voicing what the both of us were thinking. "Me too Lils" she responds.

"How was your summer Lils? I hope it wasn't too bad with your sister and--" she was cut off by someone slamming the compartment door open.

"Mary McDonald, how dare you not write to me" Marlene pronounces with fake anger but her facade breaks in 2 seconds when she lunges forward and hugs her.

"You don't want to know" I say teasingly towards Mary, remembering her rant from earlier.

"Awe Lils! I missed you so much" she engulfs me in a hug.

In a muffled voice I said something along the lines of 'I missed you too' while she tries to suffocate the air out of me. "Woah there McKinnon, I think you're going kill her", comes another voice from outside our compartment. We all simultaneously turn to see Sirius Black and the rest of the Marauders which to my distaste, included Potter.

"What's up golden girls?" he continues.

"Golden girls?" we all question him, never hearing that nickname before.

"Because you guys are in Gryffindor and Gryffindors colors and red and gold and you guys are girls..." he trails off, earning blank stares from all of us including his friends. "I don't care if it doesn't make sense that's what I'm calling you."

"I like it Padfoot" Potter agrees, while clapping his friend on the back. Remus and Peter recover from their confused faces and nod along.

"Anyways.." Mary drawls. "What are you guys doing here?"

Sirius speaks again. "Well believe it or not MacDonald, we go to Hogwarts as well. It's a shame I know. The thought of having to take potions again this year is enough to send me home, but alas here I am in the flesh on the way--"

"What are you doing by our compartment" she emphasizes, cutting him off and rolling her eyes.

"We just came to give you candy" Potter cuts in. "Here Evans take this" he says as he throws a pink candy at me. Thrown off guard I almost don't catch the candy as it flies directly at me. But when I catch it and it explodes into pink dust all over my face, I wish I hadn't caught it. Dragging my hands along my face I attempt to get the powder out of my eyes and off my face. When I wipe enough off I turn to see my surprised friends and Potter and Black stifling a laugh.

"Get. Out. Now." I say as harshly as a human can with pink dust covering their face. I see them start to turn their backs to walk away still hiding their laughter. "Oh, and Potter" he turns around, "please don't talk to me again this year." I say sweetly. He raises his eyebrows for a split second before his features fall into his signature smirk again before he walks away his friends trailing behind. Remus stays behind and raises his wand ever so slightly towards me and mutters an incantation that immediately clears the pink from my face. He gives me a half smile as if saying 'I'm sorry for my stupid friends' and I return it as the door to our compartment closes.

Marlene and Mary turn to me with knowing looks. "I just can't get rid of that git can I?" I grumble rubbing my temple, as the conversation turns to anything else besides the Marauders.

--

"Is it just me or does Dumbledore not age?"

"The first years seem like they get smaller each year."

"He's brilliant of course, but he's a little batty don't you think?"

"I mean we weren't that small when we were in first year right?"

These were the highlights the conversations we had at the feast. The first years had just been sorted which consisted of loud screaming for Gryffindor and mostly booing for Slytherin. Mary, Marlene, and I always liked to sit towards the back of the Gryffindor table which was unfortunately where the Marauders usually sat as well.

I really should talk to my friends about switching seats.

After the feast we head straight to the Gryffindor tower in an attempt to avoid the commotion of the first years. Unfortunately, we had to stop once when a first year rammed into Mary which resulted in the small girl going very red in the cheeks and scurrying off.

"Gum drop" Marlene tells the Fat Lady at the entrance of our tower. "You think it would be something more difficult than gumdrop." I say under my breath which earns me a glare from the women in the frame.

"Ah look it's the golden girls once again!" Sirius yells at us opening his arms wide which draws a lot of unwanted attention from people in the common room.

We all send him a unamused look before heading to the couch near the fireplace.

"We get our schedules tomorrow." I say clapping once in excitement.

Marlene slaps her hand to her forehead. "Merlin Lily! Why would you say that? I was in a good mood."

"Yes well as much as I know you would rather play quidditch all day-" I roll my eyes, "We need to do well this year. We're in 6th year now and we have NEWTs next year."

"What's this about playing quidditch all day? Sounds like a dream to me." I hear Potter say from behind us and I look to see for once that he's alone and not with the rest of his trouble making friends.

I roll my eyes and look away from him while Marlene and even Mary give him an amused look.

Traitors.

I look back up at him to find that he's already looking at me. "How's your face Evans? Pink enough?" He says innocently. I jump out of my seat, shoot him the most menacing look I can muster, and head towards the staircase for our dormitories.

I hear footsteps following after me and not a second later hear people burst out in laughter. I look back to see people looking towards where I just came from, but more specifically at Potter who was now holding his hair and it grew longer and longer and started to turn purple. I can't help the smile that appears on my face as I watch his face become more and more horrified as the laughter gets louder around the room. Wondering who the perpetrator is, I don't have to look long when I see Mary discreetly putting away her wand with a gigantic smirk on her face.

She walks towards Marlene and I and drags us by the arms towards the staircase. Without a second thought I quickly turn around and shout, "How's your hair Potter? Purple enough?"I don't bother to hide the amusement in my tone which only increases the booming of laughter in the room. However, I don't bother to see how he reacts before spinning on my heel and latching my elbows through my friends arms.

Thank Merlin for my best friends.
