Jonathan Creek – A long way home
Chapter 9:
A few days passed really nicely at Sally and David's, she got some good nights sleepy on a really comfy bed, got well fed, went shopping for clothes with them and helped them with the unpacking and gardening. It felt so nice to have a place she could call home, a place to relax and unwind and get back to health.
"How do you think its all going?"
Sally said as she stepped back in from the garden. They had spent all day tidying it up, doing the weeds, making some boarders and planting some flowers, it was looking amazing.
"Yeah the gardens starting to look really lovely"
He said glancing out of the window with a cup of tea in his hand.
"Noooo," I meant Maddie"
"Oh, Sorry"
He said turning round to meet her gaze.
"Yes, she seems to be settling in well and is a great help round the house"
"Yes, she is isn't she, I really like her and think its great to have her here and help her out"
Sally responded as she started tidying the kitchen. They gazed out of the window, just watching her finish the last bit pf planting when the phone suddenly started ringing.
"Hello….., Darling how are you? How was your trip?"
"Yeah good thank you"
Came the voice responding from the other end.
"I've just got back so I'm going to be driving home soon and thought I'd pop in and check out the new place, see how your settling in"
"Oh sweetie that would be lovely, How was your flight?"
"Yeah fine usual, I tried to rest while the magic man leered at the air hostess"
"Oh the usual then, well all is brill here, can't wait to have you back and meet our guest, who has been a fantastic help"
"A guest?"
The voice responded with a sound of confusion in their voice.
"Yes"
"Your mom was trying to be a good Samaritan"
David shouted out loud enough for the caller to hear him.
"She is lovely, she was on the streets and got attacked so I gave her some help, got her to the hospital and then, well it's a long story, but she is lovely and is here with us, we are helping her and getting her back to health and she is a fantastic help round the house and oh there is so much to tell you"
David rested his head on Sally's shoulder.
"You going to let the boy get a word in edgeways?"
"Yes"
Sally snapped back
"I just can't wait to see him"
Sally said as Maddie came in through the back door from the garden.
"I'm sorry darling, I'm just missing you, you just get home and we will talk more then okay"
"Okay mom see you soon" The voice came back in response.
"Oh, I'm excited"
Sally exclaimed as she turned round.
"Maddie, Sorry, that was my son on the phone"
"Your son? Oh, I didn't realise you had one"
"Yes, He has just come back from America, he was on tour, he is coming over later so you will get to meet him, and I can introduce you to him"
"Oh lovely, that will be nice, well I have finished in the garden so I will just go and get freshened up"
She said smiling as she started to head upstairs.
"Lovely"
Sally had the biggest beam on her face as she glanced over at David.
"Don't?"
David said knowing exactly what she was thinking.
