Jonathan Creek – A long way home
Chapter 11:
Sally looked over at Jonathan who still had his head in his hands.
"I can't believe I shouted at her, screamed at her, I was so stupid…"
"Hay, Hay, It's not your fault, there is clearly a lot you two need to discuss?"
"You Think?" Jonathan quickly snapped back as he looked up at his mom.
"Oh I'm sorry," He said, feeling bad for his quick reaction.
He was not normally like that, it took him a long time to get angry and react, he always kept things inside and pushed them down until he could no longer do it and would explode. Sally raised her hand and gently placed it on his back hoping to bring him some form of comfort.
"That's okay, it's about time you said how you felt, instead of hiding everything away all the time, its times like this that you need to talk"
"She was pregnant" More tears formed in his eyes, the drops got so heavy that they fell fast.
"I know" She continued to rub his back and held his hand tight.
"And then she lost it, my baby and she didn't say anything and…."
"It can't have been easy and she must have been so scared, and whether you have someone by your side or not, losing a baby is the most loneliest you will ever feel, it's your baby growing inside you and when it's gone you feel like it's your fault, no matter what the doctors say and you'll carry that grief with you for the rest of your life, you never forget and…."
Jonathan looked up at his mom, he could see the pain in her eyes and got the sense that she wasn't just talking about Maddie.
"Have you lost a…..?"
"Yes," She said quickly interjecting It was about time he knew.
"Before we had you, we found out I was pregnant and we were so excited, we always wanted children, many if we could. We started get everything ready, getting all the things we thought we would need making a nest for ourselves and everything seemed to be going well. Then 3 months in things suddenly changed, I started getting some pains and they rushed me into the hospital and… Well, they told me I had lost the baby….."
Jonathan wrapped his arm round his mom and pulled her closer.
"How come you never told me?"
"Because, Like I said it isn't easy to talk about these things sometimes, especially when you're wrapped with guilt because you feel like it's your fault, it must have been so hard for Maddie to deal with this and on her own….."
Jonathan quickly stood up in irritation.
"Yeah, on her own because all she ever did was push me away"
He said raising his voice.
"But when she came to you….."
"Yeah I know I shouted at her and I was an arse…."
"I was going to say she must have been really scared and wanted to talk to you, now its time for you to do some talking"
"Me?" He said raising his voice again
"Yes it's about time you talked, opened up, and told people how you feel, its time for you to stop running away"
The voices getting louder
"Runaway?"
"HAY" David shouted as he came down the stairs.
"Now is really not the time to be fighting… My tablets are gone"
