"Well, while they focus on that, why don't we turn our attention back to the magic filled necklace?" Rafael speaks up, breaking the silence that was there for a few moments after the three people left as he suggests they turn their attention back to the necklace.
"Or we could also focus on the resurrection spell she recently finished." MG jumps in, suggesting that they could always focus on Hope's resurrection spell but Penelope just groans.
"Here are the results. The resurrection spell was for something important and so was surrendering her magic. Questions answered, the other state cops that the sheriff called are probably following a lead to her location, case closed, nothing else for us to be doing anymore. Thank god." Penelope moans out a thank god after hilariously saying that they don't have to do anything else and answering the questions that were brought up.
"What's up with you?" Emma questions Penelope's behavior which causes her groan in annoyance again.
"I'm exhausted! We've had the worst possible sleep schedule for an entire month. Well actually, we haven't been sleeping at all and I don't know if you remember this Emma, but I'm only fifteen. I don't turn sixteen until April. I need sleep, or maybe just coffee at this point." Penelope moans out that she's exhausted, revealing to Hope's family that they haven't slept for a month and also revealing to everyone else that she's fifteen then practically begs that she needs sleep yet seems that she'll suffice with drinking coffee.
Since Penelope is lounging on her stomach on one of the couches, she just slams her head on one the pillows and begins to feign hysterical sobbing in order to express her exhaustion even more, which Emma can tell.
The room just stands around awkwardly before she stops and lifts her head up, which lets them know that she wasn't actually crying.
"She makes a good point. We haven't slept for an entire month and we are just a bunch of kids." MG agrees with Penelope's point of being exhausted from not sleeping for a month and reminds Alaric that they are all still kids which has him sigh in realization.
"Right, I almost forgot." Alaric concludes that he almost forgot he was working with a bunch of minors and seems to be agreeing in letting them sleep.
"You guys have been working on this case for an entire month and we appreciate the determination that you have in finding our niece but perhaps you should sleep and let us handle it from here." Rebekah puts out the suggestion that the Salvatore School sleeps while the Mikaelsons take up the reins in looking for Hope.
"Alright, I trust that you guys will be doing everything you can to find her." Alaric agrees to Rebekah's suggestion and the rest of them agree to this as well.
"Dorm sweet dorm." Kaleb leaves the library to head to the dorm room while MG heads over to Penelope.
"Peez, we can head back to the dorms." MG nudges her but she makes no moves or signs of feeling MG nudge her.
"She's unconscious. You can just tell her the news when she wakes up." MG determines that Penelope's fast asleep then recommends that the others just tell her whenever she wakes up before leaving to head to his dorm room as well.
Everyone else leaves the library in order to finally get some sleep except Alaric, which confuses the Mikaelsons.
"I thought you were going to sleep as well." Freya reveals her belief that Ric was going to rest but he simply shakes his head.
"She's your family but she's one of my students too. Not to mention that she was under my supervision at the time of her kidnapping, I'm not sleeping until we find her." Alaric explains that he isn't sleeping until Hope is found as she was under his care at the time causing them to nod at him in understanding and agreement to this.
After a while, Kol is looking at all of the spirals, just having reached the completed spell.
"She's been working on this spell for two years. This is very impressive, she combined the death spell in reverse with a healing spell, and a resuscitation spell." Kol realizes that she's been working on her resurrection spell for two years and compliments how impressive the spell is as he sees what spells she combined together.
"What's the first date she started working on it?" Marcel asks what the first date she had started working on the spell and Kol looks back through all of the spirals again.
"The earliest date that I've seen is… June 6, 2026 and she was working on rewriting the death spell." Kol finds the first date she started working on it which is when she started rewriting the death spell.
"That's her mother's birthday." Rebekah points out that the date is, in fact, her mother's birthday, which gets them thinking.
"The date must have been a trigger for her." Alaric deduces that the date might have been what triggered her determination in making a resurrection spell to begin with.
They all shrug, all of them clearly still unsure about it then Penelope wakes up and yawns, announcing the fact that she's awake again.
"Where is everyone?" Penelope looks around the room as she sleepily wonders where everyone else is.
"They left in order to get some sleep." Alaric explains where everyone else is and Penelope nods in agreement as she sits up on the couch and rubs her eyes.
"Well, I feel a lot better. I really needed that nap. So, where are we with finding Hope?" Penelope questions how far they got in finding Hope, getting to business, after relishing in the fact she feels better now that she's slept.
"We found out that she started the resurrection spell two years ago on her mother's birthday and Alaric thinks that the date was a trigger for her in making one in the first place." Freya explains what they've just talked about and Penelope sits on the floor to join them.
"It's very possible that it was a trigger for her. Especially given how close she was with her mother." Penelope agrees that the date was probably a trigger for Hope in creating the resurrection spell then she gets a look of contemplation.
"Wait, there might be more information in her room. We should take a look." Penelope concludes that there might be more info in her dorm room and suggests that they take a look just as Lizzie and Josie return.
"Take a look where?" Lizzie wonders where they should take a look, seeming confused.
"Hope's dorm room. It might help us find her." Penelope repeats her words about Hope's dorm.
"Um, I don't think that's a good idea. She doesn't really like when people invade her privacy." Josie refuses to take a look in Hope's dorm, citing that Hope doesn't like other people invading her privacy, obviously uneasy about the idea.
"It's not like she can object to it." Penelope reminds Josie that Hope can't really say anything about them snooping through her room.
"Fine, you guys go but I'm staying in the library. But if… when we find her and bring her back, I won't be able to stop myself from telling her we invaded her dorm room." Josie hesitates before saying when then she explains that she'll tell Hope about snooping around her dorm after reluctantly agreeing to let them search her room, wanting to stay in the library.
"Where's Roman?" Freya changes the topic to Roman, wondering where he is.
"Probably still resting. There was a lot of power in that spell, so it took a while to siphon it off of him." Lizzie responds with the assumption that Roman is still resting and explains that a lot of power was used to sustain the spell, which is why they were gone for a long while.
"Where the hell is everybody?" Lizzie crosses her arms as she turns the topic to the lack of their fellow classmates, looking around the room in a confused manner.
"They're sleeping because I've come to realize that none of them have slept in a month. Perhaps you two should join them." Alaric replies to the question, saying that they're all sleeping in order to catch up on the month long lack of sleep that they've had before he suggests that Lizzie and Josie join them in resting too.
"No." Lizzie and Josie simultaneously dismiss the suggestion, with Josie having crossed her arms beforehand causing Alaric to sigh, knowing that he won't be able to convince them.
"You know what, maybe we should look in Hope's dorm. Something seemed off to me about her closet." Josie turns the subject back to searching Hope's dorm room, stating that the closet seemed off to her, in a soft tone.
"Alright, let's go." Penelope seems glad that Josie got a change of heart in searching Hope's dorm room as she suggests that they go investigate it.
So, the group heads to Hope's dorm room to do some snooping but the second they are outside the door, Josie gets a look of nervousness.
"This was a bad idea. We should go back to the library." Josie immediately decides to speak up on her anxiety about it being a bad idea and suggests that they return to the library.
"You were the one that said something was off with her closet. Please, don't chicken out on us now." Lizzie brings up Josie's words then pleads with her not to chicken out.
Josie swallows down her fear of Hope's reaction and silently nods in agreement to help search the room which has Marcel open the door then enter.
Once they all enter the room, it's depressing as it looks like she will return at any given moment with her blankets a mess, like she just got out of bed, her closet door still open, like it was before she left, and her pajamas just lying on the comforter of her bed, like she'll just take off her clothes in order to change her outfit quickly.
"Well, the good news is that the closet door is open which means we can get in and get out." Josie expresses her happiness in the fact that due to the closet being open, they can simply get in and get out before she walks over to it.
"That defeats the purpose of snooping around." Penelope reminds Josie that getting in and out defeats the entire purpose of snooping.
"I don't want her to know we touched anything. So, just put everything back how you found it when you're done." Josie quickly retorts to Penelope's statement, saying that she doesn't want Hope to know they touched anything in her room before suggesting that they simply put everything back where it was once they look at it.
"She won't care, Josie." Lizzie moans out that Hope won't care if they touched anything which has Josie scoff.
"Yeah, have fun telling her that when she returns and knows that we snooped in here without her permission." Josie snaps another retort, this one at Lizzie, snarkily telling her twin to have fun convincing Hope of her words once she returns and accuses her of it.
All of them remain silent as they seem to know that Josie makes a good point but at the same time, they don't follow Josie's suggestion as they believe all Hope will care about is being home after she's found.
Josie is searching through the closet, only to come across a tape recorder, which she looks at curiously before playing it.
'Look with your eyes, not with your hands, you bloody idiot.'
Klaus' voice is heard once Josie hits play causing her to pause it then hit play again.
'Get out of my stuff, or I'll kill you!'
Hope's voice comes from the tape recorder this time and it's more angry than Klaus', which was annoyed in the first message yet Josie drops the recorder on the floor.
"Yeah, I think she'll care if we touch her stuff." Josie deduces that Hope will care due to the voice recording on the tape.
"I remember that tape recorder. I can't remember, did Josh get it for her or did her mother get it?" Davina recognizes the tape recorder then tries to remember who got it for her.
"Neither, her father got her that tape recorder. I just didn't know he recorded his own voice with it." Freya admits that Klaus actually got Hope the tape recorder then states that she didn't know he used it at any given point.
"Aha! I think this is it." Josie pulls out a very large wooden trunk from the closet that Kol immediately recognizes as he speaks up on it.
"I know that trunk. Nik carved it specifically for me so it used to be mine. But then I died, he had Hope, and he put all of her baby toys in it." Kol explains that the trunk Josie just has pulled from the closet was formerly his, as Klaus made it for him then eventually put all of Hope's baby toys in it after he died.
"What? He makes you a large ass trunk and all I get is a knight figure?" Rebekah pouts at the fact Klaus made Kol a better gift than her but Kol just scoffs.
"Oh relax Bex. He made me the trunk not long after we became vampires and he made you that knight figure when he was a child. Granted, both objects are millennia old yet yours has a bit more value in the sentiment department." Kol brushes off her annoyance with the trunk, reminding her that the knight figure is from their childhood while the trunk is from their early vampire years.
"If we could table this interesting conversation for just a minute to see what's in the trunk, that would be great." Freya cuts into Kol and Rebekah's conversation before Rebekah can respond in favor of turning their attention back to the trunk and what might be inside.
So, Josie cautiously opens the trunk, only for it to have a yellow envelope on top of all of the books that are already in the trunk.
"Wow. This girl really loves her books." Penelope makes a snarky comment about Hope loving books too much.
"I love my books." Josie chooses to retort, saying that she loves her own books, earning an eye roll from Penelope.
"We should bring this to the library." Alaric suggests that they bring the trunk to the library but Lizzie speaks up.
"No. This trunk is very heavy and the library has stairs. Not to mention that Hope will def know that this is gone. We should just look at the contents here then take the envelope to the library." Lizzie refuses to take the trunk to the library, stating that the trunk is too heavy, along with the fact the library has stairs and ultimately agrees with Josie's words by saying that Hope would notice an entire trunk missing before making a suggestion of her own.
So, they take Lizzie's suggestion, only to find out that the books are just that, dusty old books.
"Did she steal these from Elijah?" Marcel wonders if Hope had stolen the books that are in the trunk from Elijah, apparently recognizing them as belonging to him.
"Not shocking. His books are the only thing he left behind and she's very sentimental about things belonging to her family." Freya is unsurprised that Hope stole all of Elijah's books, revealing that the books are the only thing she has left of him.
"Let's head to the library to see what's in the envelope." Rebekah grabs the yellow envelope that was on top of the books while everyone else puts the books back and Josie puts the trunk back in the closet before they head back to the library.
