"Did she say 'our'?" Davina speaks up, having gotten caught on the first part of the video, just before Roman showed up, in which she told the camera that Marcel was keeping an eye on Klaus, referring to him as 'our dad'.
"She did and I honestly enjoy that she constantly refers to Marcel as her brother, as well as that she acknowledges they share a parent." Rebekah confirms that Hope did then admits that she enjoys how Hope constantly calls Marcel her brother and that Klaus is his father too.
Before anything else can be said or done, Freya reenters the room with Roman, who has an arm slung over her shoulder and he looks exhausted, proving that the videos were very long.
"Okay, we're back at the library." Freya announces that they're back in the library while Roman looks around the room, dazed and confused.
"Do I know you?" Roman wonders if he knows Freya, symbolizing that he has amnesia, before he goes back to looking around the room.
"Do… Do you live here? It's quite nice." Roman hesitates in asking if Freya lives in the library then makes the compliment of it being nice as Freya put him on the couch.
"I'm going to be honest, frying his brain was not fun at all." Freya makes the confession that she didn't enjoy frying his brain whatsoever and Roman continues to look around the room in confusion, not recognizing it.
"Do I live here?" Roman questions if he lives in the library as he stares up at the ceiling, still very confused, and Freya just sighs in exasperation.
"Roman." A voice can be heard, echoing, but only Antoinette can hear it, despite the voice calling out for Roman.
"Roman." the echoed voice is heard again before a figure starts appearing and then Hope can be seen by Antoinette, who seems shocked.
"Hope?" Antoinette calls out to her, getting her attention as she faces her, looking confused for a moment.
"I don't understand, how can he not hear me?" Hope voices her confusion on why Roman can't hear her.
"I don't think he can see you either. Actually, something tells me I'm the only one who can." Antoinette determines that she's the only one that can see Hope since everyone else is trying to see what Antoinette's talking to.
"Uh, should we tell her that no one's there?" MG whispers if they should tell Antoinette that they can't see what she does, this question earning a chuckle from Hope before she sees a flash-drive in the computer.
"Oh no, you've found my home videos. Oh well, I knew that those would be found one day." Hope expresses slight fear that they've found her home videos then brushes it off, claiming that she knew they'd be found eventually.
"Wait, you're… Antoinette. Roman's wife." Hope seems to process and acknowledge Antoinette's identity yet calls her Roman's wife.
"His sister." Antoinette corrects her, saying that she's Roman's sister and Hope nods.
"Right. Sorry, my mind is a little hazy." Hope apologizes then states that her mind is a little hazy after nodding awkwardly as she remembers that Roman had said Antoinette is his sister.
"What are you talking to?" Rebekah immediately decides to wonder what Antoinette is talking to, making it clear that no one else in the room can see her.
"I'm talking to Hope. She's somehow here." Antoinette replies with the fact that she's talking to Hope and everyone seems stunned by this.
"Hold on, let me try something." Hope suggests that they hold as she tries something then disappears just as Roman slumps over on the couch, unconscious.
"Don't worry, he's fine." Antoinette assures them not to worry about Roman, claiming that he's fine, so they don't, and Hope returns but this time all of them can see her.
"Hope." Josie looks relieved to see her as she proves that Hope can now be seen by the others.
"How are you here?" Lizzie steals this question before anyone else can ask it.
"Well… I don't have magic but I figured since I'm a third vampire, I could do that vampire equivalent of an astral projection thing. Which surprisingly works and I'm putting a lot of energy into this so all of you can see me. You have my necklace, good." Hope explains that she doesn't have magic but made a deduction and is currently there by a form of vampire telepathy then expresses her relief in the fact they have her necklace.
"Yeah, we do. Hope we need to know what happened that day." Josie confirms that they have the necklace then makes it clear that they need to know what happened the day she disappeared and Hope sighs, knowing that she's right.
"Okay, but my mind is still a bit hazy." Hope agrees to tell them what happened but also tells them that her mind is fuzzy.
"Just start at the beginning of what you remember and work from there." Emma advises that she starts with the first thing that she remembers, causing Hope to nod.
"Uh, I was in my dorm room, getting ready after I convinced Dr. Saltzman to let me head up to see Mr. Williams. Josie was there, we talked, I asked if she could find a witch to run Landon's 23andMe, I promised that I would call her when I got there and when I left, I took one of my jackets from the closet and went to Dr. Saltzman's car." Hope begins telling them what happened, summarizing it.
"Dr. Saltzman showed up, we talked, he gave me a book on dryads, I left school grounds then I drove the four hours, made a side stop at Baskin Robbins to get cookies and ice cream. I made it to the cabin, talked to the dryad and Mr. Williams before making a deal, Mr. Williams left to talk to a friend, I gave the dryad a sugar cookie, she enjoyed it. Uh, I talked with the dryad for a while until Mr. Williams returned, I called Dr. Saltzman, headed back to the cabin, where the dryad actually gave us some answers then she tried to attack and we had to kill her. Then I decided to head back to the school, I got to the car, called Josie to tell her I was heading back before realizing that the car needed gas." Hope continues to explain what happened in a summarized form, as she tries to remember everything.
"It was when I was driving, I realized that someone was following me but after a few moments, the car disappeared. About an hour after that, I reached a gas station, used the bathroom, got a slushie, filled the car up, answered my phone, talked to Josie for a bit, hung up, finished filling the car with gas, and drove away from the station. But not long after I left the gas station, the same car from earlier was following me again, I managed to lose them by turning down a back-road then that's when Josie called me again." Hope makes it clear that she knew she was being followed then brings up that Josie called.
"What happened to your slushie? We saw the footage from the gas station and the aftermath of the accident, there were no remnants of a slushie in sight." Josie decides to ask what happened to Hope's slushie then explains why the question is relevant.
"I don't know anything about that. I really don't, but everything after you called a second time's kind of blur, probably because I'm focusing all of my energy in just being here for all of you to see me." Hope confesses that she doesn't know anything about the slushie disappearing then admits that after Josie called goes blurry yet she assumes it's most likely because of all of the energy that she's putting in her telepathy.
"Where are you?" MG decides to ask Hope where she is but she simply shrugs in response.
"I don't know. It's just a bunch of metal. Metal walls, metal floors, dim ass lights which prevent me from seeing shit, and metal racks." Hope explains what she can see in her place of captivity, claiming that it's mostly metal.
"Racks?" Alaric questions her words and she nods.
"Like those large metal things that you put stuff on. Shelves, I'm surrounded by metal shelves, it's possibly a metal storage room but I don't know. All I see are the shadows of the racks because the lights in this area are so dim that they might as well not even be in here." Hope tries to clarify what she means before finally finding the word then assumes that she might be in a metal storage room.
There's a moment of silence as the group processes the description of her location before she speaks up again.
"I'm going to give you guys a riddle." Hope blurts that she's going to give them a riddle once Roman starts stirring awake and Lizzie nudges Josie, who picks up a pen and clipboard with a piece of paper already on it.
"Okay." Lizzie then motions for Hope to speak her riddle after Josie has a paper and pen in her hands.
"There's a reason you have more questions than answers, the evidence you have is solely a lock, you need to find the key. You already have it, you know that you have it, you just need to find it. Retracing steps is part one, focus on all of the evidence to see what stands out. You have everything you need, all you have to do is realize it. Also, if you find my slushie, can you tell me if it still tastes good?" Hope says her riddle that Josie writes down, then wonders if they can tell her that the slushie is still good if they ever find it.
"Should I write that last part down or what?" Josie asks if she should write down the question as well but Hope shakes her head.
"No, I'm just genuinely curious. Um…" Hope trails off after denying that Josie writes down the question as well then turns her head to the side, seeming to hear something no one else does.
"Someone's coming. I have to go." Hope realizes that someone is entering her location and concludes that she has to leave.
"No, Hope." Josie calls out to her just before she disappears and they all seem sad by the fact she couldn't stay longer.
"Well, she's still alive. That's a good sign." Emma points out the positive thing, clearly trying to be the optimist for everyone.
"Yeah, but for how long?" Lizzie dampers Emma's positivity by making everyone wonder how much longer Hope actually has left.
"Let's focus on the riddle. She looked directly at us when she said we know that we have the key. Which means that we don't know that we know what we know." Josie turns their attention to the riddle then points out that Hope was looking at her and Lizzie when she said they know they have the key before making a confusing statement.
"I'm sorry, you lost me after the second 'know'." Penelope is the first to prove that Josie just confused the entire room by apologizing and saying she got lost after Josie said 'we don't know'.
"Is anyone else going to point out the fact that Hope waited until Roman was starting to wake up before she gave us the riddle?" Kaleb questions if anyone else realized that Hope only gave them the riddle when Roman was waking up, causing Davina to raise her hand.
"I was literally just about to say something about that." Davina confirms that she was going to bring it up but then Kaleb did.
"Well, that was eventful." Roman speaks up, sounding more normal rather than dazed and confused like he was earlier.
"You no longer have amnesia?" Hayley is the first to question this and he just nods in agreement as he stands to his feet, getting off the couch.
"Nope, so I'm praying you got something." Roman looks to Freya as he says that he prays she got something.
Freya looks very confused by this statement, which Roman clearly notices.
"Oh, I wasn't specific with that. Um, the only permanent solution to the spell is fatal pain infliction, the brain frying temporarily removes the spell. My decision was so you'd fry my brain then search my mind for answers. But since the amnesia wore off, and you clearly didn't search my mind, we're back at square one." Roman sighs in realization that he wasn't clear on the situation that is the deep-rooted spell on mind, seeming annoyed with his own lack of clarification, as well as Hope's family.
"You didn't tell us that." Rebekah takes the time to remind Roman that he never told them that and he just gives her a significant look.
"That's because I forgot and didn't really remember until now." Roman remarks that he forgot, which is why he didn't tell them when he informed them of the spell to begin with.
"Okay, we have a riddle. You're Hope's genius mind reader friend, figure it out." Lizzie turns their attention back to Hope's riddle as she snatches the clipboard from Josie then slams it into Roman's chest after she approaches him, demanding that he figure out the riddle, calling him 'genius mind reader friend', much to Roman's amusement.
Roman looks at the clipboard for a long moment, reading the riddle, but his face reads confusion.
"Where did you get this riddle?" Roman voices his confusion, wondering where they got the riddle, as he was slowly starting to wake up when Hope was there.
"From Hope. She managed to visit us and gave us that riddle. She had left just before you woke up fully." Antoinette explains that the riddle came from Hope but Roman still looks confused as her explanation is very vague.
Seeing that he looks more confused from Antoinette's explanation, Penelope explains it in a more descriptive manner, which helps him understand the situation a lot more and he hands the clipboard back to Josie.
"She directed the riddle to the two of you. I don't think this is going to be something I can solve." Roman gives an explanation as to why he returned the clipboard to Josie, stating that Hope gave her and Lizzie the riddle to solve.
"Twenty bucks says this riddle is going to drive us to insanity." Landon makes a bet towards the fact that the riddle will make them crazy, due to not being able to solve it, and the group seems to silently agree with this bet.
"Examine the evidence. We need to turn this stuff inside out just to make sure we didn't miss anything." Lizzie suggests that they turn the evidence inside out to ensure that they missed nothing.
So, that's what they do, Roman takes up looking through all the spirals, along with Kol, Lizzie reexamines the jacket, and Josie searches through the duffel bag while Landon re-looks at the Hunger Games trilogy.
"Josie, you're wasting your time with the bag. It's completely empty, everything that was in it, they're looking at." Penelope tells Josie that she's wasting her time as everything within the bag is out, motioning to Kol, Roman, and Landon.
"No, that's not everything." Josie realizes that the things they took out of the bag aren't everything in it and she pulls out a small piece of paper that looks like a corner of something.
"It says help me." Josie reads what's on the paper, the ink being red and says 'help me' on it.
"Wait a second, can I have that?" Landon holds out his hand and Josie hands him the piece of paper, which he takes after flipping through the book he's reading.
"Look." Landon shows the page he's on to the group then takes the piece of paper and puts it in the top corner, it being a perfect match.
"Why?" Alaric asks the first question that comes to mind, wondering why Hope ripped off a corner of a book and left a note on it.
"That's my question. She was taking these spirals and the one journal to the cabin with her, possibly for easy access to bring her parents back after she got the knife, but why would she take The Hunger Games Trilogy with her?" Landon admits that Alaric's words were his and gets them wondering why she would bring a book trilogy with her if she only wanted the knife.
"And look at this, I just assumed that it was her favorite book because it was like this when I read it yesterday. But it seemed off to me." Landon then shows them an open page of the Catching Fire book, which is highlighted and underlined, after claiming that he believed it was her favorite book.
"Give me that." Lizzie snatches the book from Landon after crawling closer to him and starts reading it.
Lizzie intently reads the underlined, highlighted sentences and words even though she's flipping the pages so fast, you can't tell if she's reading or simply fanning herself.
"Landon, you genius hobbit!" Lizzie happily exclaims that Landon is a genius hobbit, which confuses him as well as excites him.
"What did I do?" Landon immediately questions what he did, yet seemingly accepts Lizzie's happiness with him and his discovery.
"You just solved two mysteries. Both relating to Hope." Lizzie reveals that Landon solved two mysteries that are Hope-related and now everyone looks confused.
"What?" Penelope is the first to voice the room's confusion but Lizzie is smiling happily at Landon's discoveries.
"Number one is Hope's location. She said that she was possibly in a metal storage room, she's probably in an altered Cornucopia, which is literally a large metal building with an arsenal of weapons for the tributes to get to while in the beginning of the games. And the second is Hope's scrabble cheats. All of the underlined words are words that she's used while we were playing Words with Friends and I was always wondering how she was getting like, eighty point words when she had only used five or six of the letters provided." Lizzie informs the rest of the room exactly what Landon has unknowingly discovered, seeming very happy with this information.
"Hope is your buddy when you play Words with Friends?" Kaleb points out that Lizzie admitted to playing Words with Friends with Hope, questioning her on the fact and she nods.
"Yep, but so are MG and Josie." Lizzie confirms that Hope's her buddy then adds that she also plays it with Josie and MG.
"It's possible. Especially if you always play a word while she's reading." Rafael speaks, expressing his belief in the fact it's possible the second Hunger Games book is Hope's Words with Friends cheats if Lizzie always puts down a word when she's reading it.
"Oh, something tells me that none of you have seen this." Roman mutters under his breath, the deduction that the people who have searched through the spirals haven't seen the page he's on.
"What is it?" Antoinette presses him to talk, indirectly telling him that he was talking out loud.
"It's a note from Hope, written three days before the accident. Summarized, she was being stalked and she knew that she was. She was also under the impression that something bad would happen to her and if that day happened, she wanted all of you to disappear and leave town. She definitely didn't want her family involved. Even more summarized, she wanted all of you to get the hell out of town and stay safe if anything bad were to happen to her." Roman explains that he found a note in the back of a spiral, summarizing the entire note, the summary mildly saddening the group.
"What spiral is that?" Kol asks what spiral Roman's reading after a moment of silence and Roman sighs.
"The last spiral she wrote in. You know, the one with her completed resurrection spell. She used one of the last pages to write this note because it's the only spiral she didn't fill completely." Roman informs them it's in the last spiral, with her completed resurrection spell as she didn't fill the entire thing then hands the spiral to Alaric so he can read the note for himself.
Alaric seems saddened by the note that Hope left behind in the back of the spiral as he reads it to himself then hands it to Lizzie, who reads it with Josie, however, the two of them decide to take turns reading it out loud so they don't have to keep passing the spiral to everyone.
The entire room now looks saddened after Lizzie and Josie finish reading the lengthy note that both Roman and Alaric had read previously.
"Well, it's a little late to abide by those wishes." Dorian is the first to speak after a few minutes of silence, claiming that it's a little late to do as Hope says since they've been trying to find her for the past month along with the fact that her family is already involved.
"Wait, the riddle says that retracing steps is part one." Josie turns her attention back to the riddle, realizing that Hope told them to retrace steps and looks at the clipboard in which the riddle is written on.
"There's a reason you have more questions than answers, the evidence you have is solely a lock, you need to find the key. You already have it, you know that you have it, you just need to find it. Retracing steps is part one, focus on all of the evidence to see what stands out. You have everything you need, all you have to do is realize it." Josie reads the riddle aloud as she stares intently at the clipboard, seemingly trying to see a code that Hope could've left behind.
"What steps are we retracing? Her steps from the day she disappeared or our own steps? Because I have difficulty retracing my steps to find my phone, even if it's on my nightstand." Landon immediately questions what steps they're supposed to be retracing before admitting that he has trouble finding his phone some days.
"I think it means we have to retrace our own steps and I might know the first place we should go." Roman answers Landon's question, believing they have to retrace their own steps then reveals that he might know where to look.
"Welp, you're Hope's mind reader so lead the way, vampie." Lizzie calls Roman 'Hope's mind reader' again as she stands to her feet after taking the clipboard from Josie's hands then calls him 'vampie' as she walks passed him.
Roman smiles in an amused way at how Lizzie acts towards him then follows her out of the library with Hope's family, Alaric, Antoinette, Josie, Penelope, Kaleb, and MG in suit.
They find themselves at Caroline's old house, which is the second crime scene after the area of the accident and they enter the formerly nice house, that looks exactly like how they found it the previous day, since the sun is now rising.
"This is where we're supposed to be?" Josie seems unsure of the location as she questions Roman about it while Klaus and Hayley look horrified by the blood on the walls, which obviously belongs to Hope.
"I think so. Look at the restraints on the chair, they're not cut or look like they were ripped off in any way meaning that Hope might have wriggled her way out of them, along with her foot restraints." Roman confirms with 'he thinks so' before he turns their attention to the restraints that bound Hope to the chair then reveals his belief that Hope got out of the bonds herself.
"This place still reeks of witch hazel and wolfsbane so you're saying that, despite being probably severely weakened, she managed to get out of her bindings?" Penelope asks if Roman truly believes that Hope got out of the chair she was tied to and he simply nods in response.
"If that's the case, then how is she still in captivity? I mean, if she got out of the restraints, that means that she most likely wasn't moved by the people who took her after the accident, so how is she still in danger?" Josie wonders how Hope is still in danger if she got out of her restraints like Roman believes.
Roman and Antoinette exchange stares as though they are having a conversation with their eyes, but it doesn't last long as it's quickly noticed by the rest of the group.
"You never stop talking, so what are you thinking? Because I can hear your thoughts echoing from over here." Marcel interrupts Roman and Antoinette's mental conversation by claiming that Roman never stops talking then asks what Roman's thinking of, as he can allegedly hear them from where he's standing.
Roman gets a look of nervousness before quickly recovering, knowing that Marcel's exaggerating, then turns to look at him but Antoinette speaks before he can.
"My brother and I were coming to the conclusion that she was taken by people who want to kill her but people who want her alive must have found her here. She managed to escape her restraints then tried to flee but is now in captivity of the people who want her alive." Antoinette informs them of what her and Roman were talking about, and since Roman doesn't seem angered by this, it can be assumed that Antoinette confessed what she told the group while his brain was getting fried during their mental discussion.
"So, she escaped from her bindings and possibly tried to flee all while still being under the effects of an unknown amount of witch hazel and wolfsbane. Remind me to get her mini muffins." MG concludes what Antoinette's words mean then looks to Kaleb as he tells him to remind MG to get Hope mini muffins.
Some of the room slightly chuckle at this until Davina reaches a conclusion.
"Hmm. This house doesn't have a back door anymore, you can see it. The hinges are still there but the door is gone. It's probably the reason she couldn't escape, the people came in through the front door and with the lack of a back door, Hope really couldn't go anywhere. Unless…" Davina points everyone's attention to the fact the house doesn't have a back door and assumes that's how Hope got captured again before she trails off once she looks down at the floor.
Davina starts walking along whatever she sees on the floor, reaching the staircase, then starts heading up upstairs.
"Where are you going?" Kol follows Davina after wondering where she's going and the rest of them follow in suit.
It doesn't take long for them to realize that Davina's follow a drizzled trail of Hope's blood, meaning that she was injured before she was grabbed by the different group, and they make it to Caroline's old room, which is now trashed with the bed on it's side, the mattress on the floor, the dresser completely shifted, and the window open.
Davina follows the drizzled blood trail all the way to the window and sees blood on both the window sill, along with the window, as though Hope had opened it.
"This was probably where she was kidnapped a second time, the blood on the window and it's sill implies that she tried to escape from it but wasn't fast enough." Davina deduces that Hope made it upstairs and tried to get out through the window but the people caught up to her before she could.
"So, let me get this straight. Hope gets in a car accident, is held hostage for a month, gets out of her restraints, makes her way upstairs, and nearly escapes through a window of a two-story house. All while taking into account the fact she was most likely severely drugged up with witch hazel and wolfsbane, not to mention seemingly injured. You know what, screw the mini muffins, I'll just get her a bottle of champagne." MG thinks aloud as he puts some pieces of the puzzle together, which basically just points out how strong of a woman Hope really is then retracts the mini muffins, claiming that he will simply get her champagne instead.
The room seems to acknowledge MG's indirect point of how strong Hope truly is as they continue to look around the room.
