Finding a new hope: what if
Wu's POV
It's been months since My brother took over ninjago. Darkness has filled the lands, and there is nothing I could do. My predictions were wrong, destiny has changed, and it feels like something is missing. My three pupils have been struggling. Cole as the leader of the three, is lacking having any leadership at all. Zane has been holding us all together as we fight through these rough times, and unfortunately jay is the one struggling the most. He is yet to unlock his true potential, and his powers are weak, and barely do any damage at all in battle. He has been refusing to go on missions, because he is afraid he will let his team down. Zane and Cole have been fighting back the darkness, but they, together are not strong enough to hold it for much longer. Right now I am hoping for a miracle, otherwise the city will surely get corrupted by my brothers dark powers.
Jay's POV
I was staring out the window as I awaited my teams return. There wasn't much to look at since everything was covered in darkness. I haven't seen the sun in months, let alone any natural light at all. Every time the others leave, I never know if they will return. The darkness has gotten so strong the most they can do is protect the people, they can't even try to fight back, because there is no way they would win. I would help, but the most I can do is short out the power to a single building, which isn't much compared to what Zane, and Cole can do. If I even try to help, I would probably just mess everything up. They try to get me to go with them, but in the end I never do. I've spent months, doing nothing but training. Wu keeps telling me, that if I keep training I will eventually unlock my true potential, but I know that it's probably never going to come. It feels like somethings missing, but I'm not sure what. I finally saw Zane, and Cole coming up the steps to the monastery, and opening the gates. They started talking to master wu, about what? I don't know. They finished talking, and started coming inside the monastery, I went to go meet them, but when I saw them, they seemed upset.
" how'd it go?" I asked worriedly.
" it's over, Garmadon's darkness has become to strong for us to do anything more." Cole said with his head hanging.
" we got all the people into Borg tower, it has the highest security, but even that won't last for long." Zane looked at Cole, who seemed discouraged.
" Cole what's wrong?" I asked while putting my hand on his shoulder.
" I-I failed, I failed myself, I failed the city, I failed my team. I was supposed to lead us, and look where we are now." I saw a tear form in Cole's eye as He looked at me.
" Cole you didn't fail, this wasn't your fault, there's nothing you could have done, you did what you could, we all did." Well except for me. I became tense as I said my own words, but didn't show it, and put on a fake smile.
" thanks jay, you're a great friend." Cole said while smiling softly. " wu told us to rest, so our powers can become stronger, so me and Zane are going to bed early."
" I'm gonna stay up for a little while longer, but sleep well, see you in the morning." I watched Zane, and Cole walk to there bedroom, before I headed outside to the front of the monastery. I had a couple things to get for my new gadget I've been working on, and I wanted to get them before the next attack. Which usually there's a new attack about every couple of hours. I opened the gate, and walked out. I was lost in my thoughts, thinking about if this Garmadon thing will ever end, and if it doesn't what's going to happen to us. I must have been pretty caught up in my thoughts cause I accidentally bumped into someone on my way down the stairs. I stumble backwards, as we bumped heads, I looked down, and noticed they dropped a box on the floor. I grabbed the box, and looked up as our eyes met. She had pitch black hair put up in a pony tale. Her eyes were bright blue, and she had dark red lipstick on. " I-I'm so sorry, I was thinking about something, and I didn't see you, well I did see you, but not until after I bumped into you, but by then it was too late and…" I caught myself rambling, and stopped myself from making things worse. The girl laughed a little, as I handed her the box.
" no, I'm the one who should be sorry. I guess I wasn't watching where I was going either." She said with a soft smile.
" what are you doing way up here? We don't usually get visitors at this hour." My eyes widened as I realized I was scratching the back of my head. I'm nervous, why am I nervous, I shouldn't be nervous, I've talked to girls before.
" oh, just delivering some weapons to this address. Me and my brother have a blacksmith shop, not to far from the city."
" you do know this part of the city is pretty dangerous to be out here alone right?" I looked up at the dark sky, as she started walking up the steps.
" yeah, I am a little worried about getting back, but I'll managed." The girl kept walking up the steps, and eventually got to the door, and set the box down. I realized I started to follow her up the steps, I can't stop what I'm I doing!
" I can take you back." Did I seriously just say that, your such a dork jay.
" you-you want to take me back?" She looked over to me while knocking on the big doors to the monastery.
" I-I mean you can walk back if you want to, but, I don't want you getting hurt. I-I mean not you personally, I-I just meant, I mean." I sighed As I hung my head, my eyes were locked on to the floor.
" no, I would love for you to take me back, that would be great." Her eyes lit up, as she walked over to me. I looked up at her and smiled.
" come." I started walking to the dragons keep. " Your not afraid of dragons are you?" I asked her while opening the doors to wisp's stall.
" no, why?" She gave me a confused look. The doors flung open, and wisp roared, while waking up from his nap. " y-you have dragon, like a real life dragon, that is so cool!" She said with a big smile, her eyes were lit up with the sight that she saw. I grabbed the reigns, and walked wisp out of his stall. Wisp looked at me with a look. " just go with it." I whispered to him. He replied with an eye roll, and a huff of smoke. I jumped on, and held out my hand for the girl to grab. She smiled softly as she grabbed it, and climbed on to the back of wisp. " I-I uh never got your name." I asked while stuttering.
" Nya, it's Nya." My eyes widened as I heard her say her name. I felt a little relief, like something just felt right. I wasn't sure why, but That name made me feel like there's hope.
" jay," I said with a smile. I shook the reigns, and wisp took off flying over the city. I pulled the reigns back, making wisp fly above the cloud cover. For the first time in a while, I saw light from the sun. The rays shown down on the clouds, making the sky glow brightly.
" this is amazing!" Nya leaned over, and put her hand in the clouds. I couldn't help but laugh, her presence just made me feel happy.
" um I don't know where you live." I said, while feeling bad for braking her enjoyment.
" oh right, head down here, it's the next village to the right." I shook the reigns, as wisp dove down to the village. We landed on the grass by a river. Nya jumped off, and began to walk to a black smith shop, but she turned around half way, and looked me in the eye. " thank you, this meant a lot to me." She said with a soft smile. I couldn't help but smiling back, as I watched her walk back to her shop. I flicked the reigns, and wisp flew up, and headed above the cloud cover. I looked back at Nya, and something just felt right. I know she's just a random girl, but something about her seems, like I've known her for my whole life. I flew back to the monastery, and landed wisp, on the outside of the dragons keep. I got off, and lead him back into his stall. The smile I had on my face, wouldn't go away, and I could stop thinking about her.
" what's got you so cheery?" Cole asked while leaning against the wood walls. I quickly snapped out of my daydreaming state, in shock.
" n-nothing, I'm not, I mean, I am, but." And again I found myself stuttering.
" calm down, lightning rod, it was just a question." Cole said with a snicker. I looked at him with a glare, followed by an eye roll. " where were you?" He asked.
" I was just helping someone." I said while closing the gates to wisps stall.
" who?" Cole asked in confusion.
"Someone I met."
" you met someone? Is it a girl?"
" maybe…" I was trying not to make eye contact with him, as I answered. Coles eyes widened.
" you like her, don't you!"
" w-what no I don't!... maybe a little, but it's not like I'm ever going to see her again, so drop it alright." I was starting to get annoyed by Coles questioning.
" what's her name?" He said in a sing song voice.
" Nya, ok! now enough!" I started walking towards the doors to the monastery, as Cole followed me.
" Jay's got a girlfriend." He said with a big smile. I kept walking, and rolled my eyes.
" Cole she's not my girlfriend, I barely even know her, alright! I'm going to bed see you in the morning." I walked off to my room, and put my pajamas on. as I laid down, I couldn't help but smile. She was all I could think about.
Coles POV
As jay walked inside the monastery, Zane walked out, and came up to me.
" it seems jay is… happier then normal." Zane said confused.
" he met someone." I said with a snicker.
" met someone? This-this does not compute."
" love Zane… he's in love." I gave him an eye-roll, as he stared at me confused.
" someone can not physically be in love Cole, love is ones deepest innermost feelings, one can not be in love, for love is not something that you can touch." I looked at Zane, and sighed.
" it's a… oh never mind. Wu told us to do a late night run, just to make sure the people are safe in the city." I started walking to our dragons keep, and Zane followed me, still confused. I walked over to rocky's stall, and opened the doors, and grabbed rocky's reigns. " hey rocky, one last scout, and then we're done for the day." Rocky gave a low grumble, as I walked him out of his stall. Zane was getting shard, as I heard chains rattling. I looked around in confusion, and realized it was coming from wisp. I opened the doors to wisp's stall, and saw that jay forgot to take his reigns off for the night. " wow, jay really was distracted, he never forgets to take off wisp's chains." I grabbed the reigns, and unhooked them, but as I was doing so, I noticed something was caught on the chain. " hey Zane, come here." Zane walked over, and looked at the chain.
" it's a sai." He said while pulling the metal sai out of the chains. " it doesn't look like one of ours." Zane looked at the sai closer.
" it must be that girl's," I said while looking at Zane.
" I'll go give it to wu, maybe he can take it back to her." Zane ran inside, and I stayed by the dragons keep. It wasn't too long before Zane came back. He hopped on shard, and I got on rocky. We began to fly to the city, well what used to be the city. Everything was surrounded in darkness, and once you enter, it feels cold, and hopeless. The only reason people are still living here, is because Garmadon won't let them leave. He threatened to kill whoever even tried to escape. We landed on the streets of the city, right by Borg tower. I jumped off my dragon, and ran to the doors of the tower, but when I opened them, their was no one inside.
" Zane? There's no one here." I turned towards Zane, who was just getting off shard.
" what do you mean there is no one there, we locked the doors, and barricaded them." Zane walked over, with a confused look. He looked inside, to see an empty room. We slowly walked in getting ready for attacking, but nothing happened. We looked at each other confused. Maybe there was nothing here. I looked behind me, and saw dark smoke coming from the walls.
" Zane." I tapped his shoulder. Zane turned around and his eyes widened at what he saw. There was smoke surrounding us, and in the middle of it all was a dark creature, with black scaly skin, and a smile that was bearing pointy teeth. " Garmadon!"
Jay's POV
I woke up well rested. That was the best sleep I've gotten, for a while. I walked out of my bedroom, and saw wu, putting something in a satchel.
" hey master, are you going somewhere?"
" oh, hello jay. Yes I am going to return a sai, to a blacksmith shop right outside ninjago city, Zane had come in earlier and said him and Cole found this attached to wisp's chains." Wu pulled out a silver sai, with a light blue handle on it. That must be Nya's. " I'll be back soon, keep an eye on the monastery while I'm gone." Wu began to walk out of the monastery, but I ran after him in excitement.
" I'll take it master!" Wu turned around in shock at my sudden eagerness.
" you-you want to take it, but I thought you don't like to leave the monastery?" Wu looked at me confused.
" no, you need your rest, your old, and don't want waste energy, by going to give someone a sai. Let me take it master." I could feel my eyes were lit up, and I couldn't stop myself from smiling. I slowly took the satchel off wu, and put it around me. "now go rest I'll take care of the delivery." Wu gave me a look as I backed away, and I could almost see a smile. I turned around, and ran for wisp's stall. I flung the doors open, and put wisp's chains on. " come on boy, we've got something to do." Wisp gave a low growl, as I jumped on his back. I flicked the reigns of my light blue dragon, and soon enough we were off. We flew above cloud cover, and I could see the sun again. I couldn't stop smiling, and my heart was pounding with excitement. A half an hour went by before I arrived at the small village. I landed wisp next to there shop, and jumped off of wisp with the satchel over my shoulder. I walked up to there shop, and saw a boy with spiked up hair, and a red tunic, smelting a silver sword.
" e-excuse me." I went up to the boy, and pulled the sai, out of my satchel. " i- I think this is Nya's." I said hesitantly. The boy looked over at me with a confused look.
" how do you know my sister?" He said sternly.
" y-your sister?" I felt a lump in my throat, and my excitement turned into worry.
" yeah my sister, my younger sister." The boy set the sword down, and walked closer to me. " she didn't tell me she met anyone. How does she know you?" I backed up as he walked closer to me.
" I-I helped her get home the other day." I heard my voice stutter.
" so she just let you take her home?" He asked as his voice became firm, and strong.
" I-I yes, I mean no, I mean…" I tried speaking, but nothing much came out.
" Kai what are you doing?!" I looked over, and saw Nya coming out of a the shop. I sighed with relief as the boy looked at her in surprise.
" N-Nya! How do you know him?" Kai said while backing slightly away from me.
" he helped me get home yesterday, when I went to drop off those weapons at the monastery, in the city." Nya came over, and stood by me as the boy gave me a stare. " Kai this is jay, jay this is my brother Kai." I felt my self smile awkwardly at Kai, as he glared at me. I looked towards Nya, and handed her the sai.
" I-I think this is yours." Nya looked at me, with a smile.
" my sai! I've been looking everywhere for that." Nya's eyes met up with mine, and all I could do was stare. Her eyes sparkled so much, that it looked like she had tiny blue colored lights inside them.
Kai cleared his throat, which broke me out of my trance.
" why don't you go help the customer sis." Kai said sternly, while pushing Nya toward the counter of the shop. She looked back at me, and mouthed sorry, as she turned to help the customer. Kai walked over, grabbed my arm, and pulled me to the side.
" look here buddy, if you try anything with my sister, I will find out, and it won't be pretty if I do." My eyes widened with fear, at kai's confrontation. I gulped, and shook my head vigorously.
" I'm warning you, you go near my sister, you may not live to see the next sunrise." My heart started to skip a beat, and I felt like I was trying to breath underwater. No words came out when I tried to talk, and I could barely move a muscle. The only thing that saved me was Nya pulling Kai away from me.
" Kai, your scaring him." Nya said while pushing him to the side.
" I'm just being a big brother." Nya came over to me, and stood close to me. Close enough that I could feel her arm brush up against me.
" well why don't you go be a big brother over there." Nya had sarcasm in her voice, as she pointed to their shop. " away from jay." She stared at Kai, who was flustered by his sister's persistence. Kai walked away towards the shop, but looked back and glared at me. I gave a smirk back at him, knowing Nya was on my side. " sorry about my brother, he can be a bit… overprotective." She smiled softly.
" that's ok, he's just being a brother." I said as i gave a quick eye-roll.
" hey, can you help me with something?" Nya asked me.
" uh, sure, what is it?"
" come here." Nya quickly grabbed my hand, and pulled me to the back of there shop. She went up to an electrical box, and opened the hatch. " I'm not sure if your good with this type of stuff, but I'm sure your better then me. Our electricity has been on the fritz, and I was wondering if you could… maybe.. take a look at it. I mean if your not good at this stuff then it's totally ok if you can't."
" no, actually I might be able to help." I reached behind me, and pulled out my golden weapon, a pair of nunchucks, with lightning in the middle connecting the two.
" you might want to stand back." Nya took a step back, and looked at me in confusion. I held the nunchucks tightly, and slowly started powering up, but soon enough my whole body was covered in lightning. For some reason my powers felt stronger, like they were apart of me. I hit the electrical box, and light ran through the wires. The inside of the shop lit up brightly, along with all the outside lighting they had. I fell backwards on to the grass, as the power drained from me going back into my nunchucks. I looked over, and saw Nya standing there in shock.
" how did you…I mean what did…" she tried speaking, but was too in shock at what she saw. I rubbed the back of my head nervously, as I stood up.
" was- was that too much?"
" jay! That was amazing! How did you do that?!" She ran up to me with widened eyes.
" I'm the elemental master of lightning." I said with a little laugh. " although usually it's not that strong."
" you're an elemental master?" Nya's shocked look, slowly changed to one that seemed upset, and disappointed.
" yeah is that bad!?" I said concerned.
" no, no it's just…" Nya walked over the river, trying not to make eye contact with me. I know I just met her, but I felt her sadness, even more then I've felt my own. I walked over to her as She looked down at the rippling water. " our parents were elemental masters."
My heart dropped as I heard that sentence.
" were?" I said softly.
" they died when I was three, or at least that's what we think. They said they had something important to do, and that they would be back later that night, but they never came back. I've been living with my brother ever since, that's probably why he's so over protective of me… cause I'm the only family he has left." Every word she said sunk into me deeply, her words sounded so heartbroken, like she was missing a big part of her life. Like a puzzle missing a piece, a piece she may never get back.
" Nya… I'm so sorry." I didn't know what to say, I was still trying to get my head around what she was told me.
" it's ok, I've learned to live with it, it's just a hard topic." She sat down on the dry grass, and put her hand in the water, sloshing it from side to side slowly. I looked at her as I finally found the right words.
" you know your pretty brave." I said as I sat down next her.
" w-what?" She looked at me confused.
" you've lived most of your life with no parents, while I've lived my whole life with my parents, and I still freak out over just about everything. You've made it this far without them, and to me, you seem to be handling it pretty well. That takes a lot of strength, And a lot of bravery." She looked at me, and our eyes locked. My hand slowly started to move closer to hers, and soon enough our hands were interlocked, both of us holding on tightly.
" really? You think I'm brave?" She smiled softly.
" yes, I do… and if you can't see that, then… then you must be crazy, to think that your not brave, that's what makes you so lovable, I love you because I see something in you that you can't see in yourself." I froze as I realized the words that just came out of my mouth. Nya's cheeks began to blush, as she twirled her hair. "I-I mean, I didn't mean that, I meant…" Before I could say another word Nya leaned in, and put her lips on mine. I was shocked at first, but I slowly began to like the warm feeling. I smiled as her lips pressed against mine, she quickly broke the kiss, and looked at me with a smile.
" I like you too jay, I knew from when I first met you, that you were the one, I-I don't know how or why, but I feel like I've known you my whole life." And I felt the same. something about her just felt like it was right, like… destiny was starting to feel right again.
Coles POV
We were face to face with the king of darkness. Me and Zane stood there as he crept closer.
" why are you here!? What did you do to the people?!" I finally blurted out. Garmadon smiled at my question, But didn't say anything, and before I knew it my world went black… I woke up in cage with metal bars, and a lock on the door. I rubbed my head in pain, and sat up to see Zane next to me, in a different cage, just like mine.
" Zane." I tried whispering to him, but he didn't answer. I walked closer to the end of my cage, and saw that some wires were taken out, and he looked to be powered down.I looked around, and noticed we were on the roof of a building, and no one was in sight. Great I'm alone in this, it's me against garmadon, and I know that I have no chance of winning. Garmadon came up to my cage, and stared me in the eye.
" my power is Finally strong enough to corrupt all of ninjago! what are you going to do now petty ninja?" He said with a smirk. All I could do was look down to the ground, and stare at the black floor that I was standing on.
" I-I don't know, I failed." I closed my eyes, and felt a tear fall down my cheek, I can't believe it's over, garmadon won, and there nothing I could do. I looked up to see garmadon powering up his dark energy, his eyes turned black, instead of the red that they once were. He began to shoot dark powers in every direction. The darkness started to spread even further out of the city. All I could do now is hope for a miracle.
Jay's POV
Me and Nya sat there staring at the river, are hands were still interlocked, and there was nothing but silence.
" I should probably be getting back to work." Nya turned to me, and smiled softly. She stood up, and I stood up with her. " I wish I could stay, I never want this moment to end." She wrapped her arms around me, and I did the same to her. The hug felt warm, like something I've never felt before. I was enjoying the moment when I saw a dark cloud coming from the city.
" no…" I said softly. She pulled away, and looked at me confused. I pointed to the darkness that seemed to be enlarging by the minute. She turned around, and stood there in shock. " I gotta go." I ran back over to wisp, and jumped on, he gave a low rumble. Nya ran after me, and pulled her self up to the back of the dragon.
" I'm coming with you."
" Nya you can't it's to dangerous." I turned around, and looked her in the eye.
" yeah, and that's why I'm coming with you, and I'm not taking no for an answer." She said with a determined look.
" your really serious aren't you… fine." I said with a sigh, I shook the reigns, and wisp took off, and headed towards the city. We tried going above cloud cover, but the darkness, had gotten to thick. The clouds were pitch black, and the sky was even darker. We landed on the roof top, where garmadon was. I looked over, and saw Cole locked in a cage, and Zane was powered down. Cole noticed me, his eyes widened.
" jay!" Cole yelled from the cage. Unfortunately garmadon heard the sudden yell, and turned around staring me in The eyes. I shot Cole a glare, as garmadon walked up to me.
" so, I see lightning boy has come to play, And here I thought you were to scared to show your cute little face." Garmadon smirked as purple energy came out of him. I felt my eyebrows furrow, as I took my fighting stance.
" why are you doing this?!" I yelled.
" why am I doing this! Because you ninja need to pay for what you've done!"
" what we've done?!" I said confused. " you're the one attacking the city, and hurting innocent people!"
" you killed my son!"
" Lloyd?! We didn't kill him!"
" you were in the volcano with him, you could have saved him, but yet you left him there to burn to death!" His powered got stronger as he got closer, and the darkness grew.
" if anyone of us went back there we would have burned too! None of us were strong enough to withstand that heat, we didn't have a choice!"
" everyone has a choice, just like my choice to get revenge, and eliminate you, and everyone that try's to stop me!" I jumped out of the way, as garmadon hurled glowing balls of dark energy. I tried shooting him back with my golden weapon, but nothing came out. " that's it! That's all you got!?" He shot me again, and hit me right in the chest. I went flying backwards, and hit the side of the roof.
" jay!" I heard Nya call to me, she ran over and helped me up.
" Nya you have to go it's to dangerous!"
" no I'm not leaving you here with that monster!" Garmadon shot his energy again and it came right towards us. I pushed Nya out of the way, as it hit me again, and I fell backwards. Garmadon was getting ready to finish me, but suddenly stopped.
" you killed my son! So now I will kill the one you love!" Garmadon looked at Nya, and threw a ball right towards her.
" no!" I ran up to her, and held her in my arms as tightly as I could, as the ball hit us. I closed my eyes tightly, and held her close. We're dead, I just know it. I opened my eyes, along with Nya. " were- were alive… were alive! But how are we alive?!"
" jay, look." Nya smiled, and pointed to me. I was glowing brightly, as a lightning shield covered the both of us.
" my true potential… I unlocked my true potential!" I couldn't help from smiling, I felt stronger, as power coursed through my body.
" jay you did it! Your true potential!" Cole shouted from the cage, that he was in. I looked at myself closer, and noticed something that I didn't notice before. Instead of my usual light blue color, my power was gold. I looked back at garmadon, who was looking at me in terror.
" the ultimate spinjitzu master!"
" I-I'm the green ninja!" I said in shock. I couldn't believe it, wu had told us the legend, but I never even thought it would be one of us. " I'm the green ninja!" I had to say it again just to make sure it was real. I turned around, and faced garmadon without hesitation. I felt more confident, like something I've never felt before. Garmadon backed up slowly, in fear. " now who's the scarred one!" I shot all my power, right at garmadon. It was so bright it lit up the sky with a golden glow. The blast hit garmadon, as he yelled in pain. The blast was so strong I got thrown backwards, all I could see was a bright light, before I got knocked out… I woke up to a bright blue sky, I had to blink a number of times before my eyesight came back. I saw Nya come up to me, and wrap her arms around me in a tight hug.
" you did it! I can't believe you did that!" I smiled at her as her I enjoyed the warm hug. She eventually released the hug, and back away. I looked down, and saw that my gi, was a shiny gold, and had a picture of a dragon on it.
" I really am the ultimate spinjitzu master." I smiled as I looked at my new outfit.
" yeah, yeah you're the green ninja, can you get us out of here now!" Cole said while rolling his eyes.
" oh, right." I laughed a little, as I walked over, and opened the cage. I went over to Zane's cage, opened it, and powered him back on. His eyes flickered, before lighting up entirely.
" what- what happened?" Zane said a little out of it.
" a lot happened buddy." I smiled, as I patted him on the back.
" jay… your gold!" Zane said while looking at me.
" isn't it awesome! I'm the green ninja."
" you? The green ninja, I did not see that coming."
" yeah, me neither." We all laughed at that, as I walked over to Nya. " hey, how would you, and your brother like to come live with us at the monastery."
" really?" Her eyes widened with joy. " I- I yes! Of course! I would love too." She smiled.
" is he… you know, gone for good?" Cole asked.
" he is for now, and that's all that matters, let's just enjoy this moment while we can." I looked at Nya as she grabbed my hand, and smiled softly at me. If you had told me I was going to be the green ninja by the end of the day, I would have told you that you were crazy, but now that I am, I glad that it happened the way it did, I wouldn't want it any other way.
Wu's POV
So, things didn't turn out exactly how destiny planned it. I knew Lloyd was supposed to be the green ninja, and I assume you did too, but I guess sometimes things don't always go the way that there were planned. In the end it worked out. My brother was defeated, and jay finally got his true potential, along with the discovery of being the green ninja. So destiny was changed a little, but destiny is confusing, and it has its own way of working, that even I don't understand.
The end… well for now at least.
